Introduction: Knowing an epidemic existed in Mizunami city and knowing the healthcare provided to overcome the disease may give hints on how the epidemic was handled. Aim: To examine the literature on the epidemic that occurred in the Meiji era and the contributions of healthcare providers who were active in the history of Mizunami city. Method: This is a historical study, mainly using literature. In collaboration with the Mizunami City board of Education, we searched for materials stored by Mizunami city. In addition, with the cooperation of the local residents of the healthcare providers who were active in Mizunami city, we collected materials in reference to our purpose. Result: The outbreak of the epidemic near Mizunami city was seen as a fight against smallpox. In addition, cholera, dysentery, Spanish flu, and typhoid fever also occurred. Vaccinations were carried out in the Tono region. Healthcare providers who were active in the Meiji era include six doctors and two midwives. Discussion: In the future, it will be necessary to provide more in-depth evidence through surveys, such as interviews with the cooperation of relatives of the active healthcare providers. Conclusion: In the Meiji era, in the vicinity of Mizunami city, doctors and midwives actively fought against epidemics, such as smallpox and other infectious diseases.

To distinguish species or populations using morphometric data is generally processed through multivariate analyses, in particular the discriminant analysis. We explored another approach based on the maximum likelihood method. Simple statistics based on the assumption of normal distribution at a single variable allows to compute the chance of observing a particular data （or sample） in a given reference group. When data are described by more than one variable, the maximum likelihood （MLi） approach allows to combine these chances to find the best fit for the data. Such approach assumes independence between variables. The assumptions of normal distribution of variables and independence between them are frequently not met in morphometrics, but improvements may be obtained after some mathematical transformations. Provided there is strict anatomical correspondence of variables between unknown and reference data, the MLi classification produces consistent classification. We explored this approach using various input data, and compared validated classification scores with the ones obtained after the Mahalanobis distance-based classification. The simplicity of the method, its fast computation, performance and versatility, make it an interesting complement to other classification techniques.

The increasing demand for Aluminium pushes the miners to multiply the research in order to answer this demand. The objective of this work is to characterize the bauxitic deposit of Limbiko. The methodology consists in collecting samples, and establishing stratigraphic logs, sections and geological maps. The analyses were carried out in the laboratory of the Company des bauxites de Guinea. Statistical methods were used to process the geochemical data. The study area is characterized by sedimentary formations of the Devonian, in which the dolerites of the Mesozoic were injected. It is on these Devonian and Mesozoic formations that the Limbiko bauxite deposit was developed. The stratigraphic logs show the succession of formations. The parent rock is surmounted by an alteration crust. The petrographic study is based on the bauxitic and transitional zones characterized by ferruginous laterites. both zones contain some ferriplantite. Mineralogical analysis shows the presence of gibbsite, goethite, alumogoethite, rutile and clay minerals. The geochemical study of the major elements shows that the more the contents of SiOb>2b>, Feb>2b>Ob>3b> decrease, the more the content of Alb>2b>Ob>3b> increases and those of TiOb>2b>, Alb>2b>Ob>3b> increase in the same direction. The PCA confirms the mineralogical results by classifying the samples into clay, bauxite and ferrite.

In contrast to mammals and birds,fish display an amazing diversity of genetic sex determination systems,with frequent changes during evolution possibly associated with the emergence of new sex chromosomes and sex-determining *** better understand the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms driving this diversity,several fish models are studied in *** the medaka(Oryzias latipes Temminck and Schlegel,1846)for which the master sex-determination gene has been identified,one of the most advanced models for studying sex determination is the Southern platyfish(Xiphophorus maculatus,Günther 1966).Xiphophorus maculatus belongs to the Poeciliids,a family of live-bearing freshwater fish,including platyfish,swordtails and guppies that perfectly illustrates the diversity of genetic sex-determination mechanisms observed in *** ***,bacterial artificial chro-mosome contigs covering the sex-determination region of the X and Y sex chromosomes have been *** molecular analysis demonstrated that the sex-determination region is very unstable and frequently undergoes duplications,deletions,inversions and other *** gene candidates linked to the master sex-determining gene have been identified,some of them corresponding to *** putative genes are present on both the X and the Y chromosomes,suggesting a poor degree of differentiation and a young evolutionary age for platyfish sex *** compared with other fish and tetrapod genomes,syntenies were detected only with *** observation supports an independent origin of sex chromosomes,not only in different vertebrate lineages but also between different fish species.

Prescribing patterns amongst practising Australasian neurosurgeons regarding the use of prophylactic antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in patients with newly diagnosed intrinsic brain tumours are not well established. This study aimed to determine the rate of prophylactic AED prescribing in this clinical context and to determine if there were some particular factors that influenced prescribers in their decision. A survey was conducted, and of the 91 respondents, 23 (25.3%) prescribed prophylactic AEDs. No neurosurgeons practising in New Zealand prescribed, whereas within Australian states/territories, prescribing was most common in Western Australia (3/4, 75.0%) and Queensland (8/18, 44.4%) and less common in the Australian Capital Territory (0/2, 0.0%) and South Australia (1/7, 14.3%). The most commonly prescribed first-line AED was phenytoin (n = 15, 68.2%) followed by levetiracetam (n = 5, 22.7%). The duration of prescription varied from 1 week to 6 months, with 6 weeks chosen by most prescribers (n = 7, 35%). Important factors that influence the decision to prescribe include tumour location and a history of previous seizure/s, whereas the presence of oedema or haemorrhage and patients’ age do not seem to be major influences amongst prescribers.

Introduction: Glomerular filtration is an important elimination pathway for many types of chemotherapy. Accurate estimation of glomerular filtration is essential in the management of children with cancer. Methodology: This was a prospective cross-sectional study of the descriptive type extending over a period of 6 months from July 01 to December 31, 2021 on all children with cancer followed in the pediatric hemato-oncology unit of the HND with a renal, blood and urinary assessment associated with the GFR calculated by the SCHWARTZ formula during the study period. Results: During the study period, we registered 41 new cases of cancer in the pediatric oncology unit. The age group of 0 - 5 years was the most represented, i.e. 65.85% and the average age was 5.6 ± 4 years. The most cited clinical signs were fever ie 56.10% followed by abdominal pain 34.15% and anemia 26.83%. The most represented diagnosis was burkitt’s Lymphoma, i.e. 26.83% followed by Retinoblastoma 24.39%. Mean serum creatinine was 70.65 ± 68.93 μmol/L. In our series, patients whose normal glomerular filtration rate were more represented, i.e. 70.73% and 29.27% had an abnormal GFR with an average of 87.28 ± 70 mL/min/1.73m2. Proteinuria and leukocyturia were observed in 31.71% and 19.51% respectively. Glycosuria and hematuria with common frequencies of 2.44% of patients. Conclusion: The prevention of renal toxicity of anticancer drugs always involves the precise evaluation of renal function using the Schwartz formula in children. .

Standardization of choroidal thickness measurements using enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography

AIM: To describe and evaluate a standardized protocol for measuring the choroidal thickness(Ch T) using enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography(EDI OCT).METHODS: Single 9 mm EDI OCT line scans across the fovea were used for this study. The protocol used in this study classified the EDI OCT images into four groups based on the appearance of the choroidal-scleral interface and suprachoroidal space. Two evaluation iterations of experiments were performed: first, the protocol was validated in a pilot study of 12 healthy eyes. Afterwards, the applicability of the protocol was tested in 82 eyes of patients with diabetes. Inter-observer and intra-observer agreements on image classifications were performed using Cohen’s kappa coefficient(κ). Intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) and bland-Altman’s methodology were used for the measurement of the Ch ***: There was a moderate(κ=0.42) and perfect(κ =1) inter- and intra-observer agreements on image classifications from healthy eyes images and substantial(κ =0.66) and almost perfect(κ =0.86) agreements from diabetic eyes images. The proposed protocol showed excellent inter- and intra-observer agreements for the Ch T measurements on both, healthy eyes and diabetic eyes(ICC >0.90 in all image categories). The bland-Altman plot showed a relatively large Ch T measurement agreement in the scans that contained less visible choroidal outer boundary. CONCLUSION: A protocol to standardize Ch T measurements in EDI OCT images has been developed;the results obtained using this protocol show that the technique is accurate and reliable for routine clinical practice and research.

Literature Review on the Significance of Death Conferences for Nurses in Japan

Aim: To identify evidence in the literature on the significance of death conferences for nurses. Method: This is an integrative literature review, consisting of scientific articles published on “Ichushi-Web”, an Internet-based retrieval service by the Japan Medical Abstracts Society (JAMAS), PubMed, Medline, Cochrane library, and Google Scholar for ‘the whole year,’ combining the keywords “death conference”, “nurse”, and “KJ method”. The significance of death conferences was reviewed by comparison of prior qualitative studies analyzed by the KJ method. Result: Seven studies, all from Japanese, were identified. The significance of death conferences showed “refraction”, “cooperation”, “directionality of nursing”, “caring for patient”, “caring for family”, “specific methods of nursing”, and “feelings of nurses”. Conclusion: The significance of death conferences is considered to be the effect on nurses for amelioration in the quality of patient and family care, development of human relations, and growth as a nurse. The quality of death conferences should be enhanced based on the guidelines for its clear definition.
