Geogenic lead (Pb) is considered to be less bioavailable than anthropogenic Pb and exerts less effect on the soil fauna. However,Pb contamination in vegetables has been reported in the case of geogenic anomalies, even at moderate concentrations (around 170 mgkg^(-1)). In this study, we investigated collembolan communities using both taxonomic- and trait-based approaches and observed fungal communities to assess the effects of a moderate geogenic Pb anomaly on collembolans and fungi in an urban vegetable garden *** indicated that geogenic Pb indeed modified fungi communities and altered the functional structure of collembolan communities in garden soils. Although geogenic Pb presented low bioavailability, it affected soil fauna and vegetables similar to anthropogenic Pb.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 in irritable bowel syndrome: An individual subject meta-analysis

AIMTo confirm previous conclusions on Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) CNCM I-3856 for irritable bowel syndrome (IbS) *** individual patient data meta-analysis was performed on two randomized clinical trials studying the effect of S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 supplementation on gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in IbS subjects. A total of 579 IbS subjects were included. Outcomes were the daily Likert scale scores of abdominal pain/discomfort and bloating [area under the curve (AUC) and weekly means], responder status, and bowel movements (stool frequency and consistency). Statistical analyses were conducted in Intent to Treat (ITT) population, IbS-C subjects and IbS-C subjects with an abdominal pain/discomfort score higher than or equal to 2 at baseline (“IbS-C ≥ 2 subpopulation”).RESULTSS. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 significantly improved abdominal pain/discomfort and bloating during the second month of supplementation [AUC (W5-W8)] with improvement up to the minimal clinically relevant threshold of 10%: a 12.3% reduction of abdominal pain/discomfort in the ITT population compared to the Placebo group (P = 0.0134) has been observed. In the IbS-C ≥ 2 subpopulation, there were a 13.1% reduction of abdominal pain/discomfort and a 14.9% reduction of bloating compared to the Placebo group (P = 0.0194 and P = 0.0145, respectively). GI symptoms significantly decreased during supplementation but no statistical differences were reported between groups at the end of the supplementation period. Responder status was defined as a subject who experienced a decrease of 1 arbitrary unit (a.u.) or 50% of the abdominal discomfort score from baseline for at least 2 wk out of the last 4 wk of the study. Pinus sylvestris and Picea abies canopy effects on deposition of air pollutants

Tree canopies influence atmospheric pollutant depositions depending on type,ecosystem characteristics,and local climatic *** study investigated the impact of Pinus sylvestris *** Picea abies （L.） ***.,and a mixture of both,on the chemical composition of *** permanent plots within the ICP forest level II monitoring network in Lithuania were selected to illustrate typical hemiboreal coniferous *** study analysed（1） the concentrations of NO2,NH3and SO2in the ambient air;（2） the concentrations of SO42-,NO3-,NH4+,Na+,K+,Ca2+and Cl–in throughfall beneath canopies and in precipitation collected in an adjacent field,and （3） S and total N,Na+,K+,Ca2+and Cl-depositions in throughfall and precipitation over 2006–*** show a significant decrease in SO2emissions in the ambient air;NO2and NH3emissions also *** canopies reduced the acidity of throughfall,although they led to notably higher concentrations of SO42-,NO3-,Na+,and particularly K+.During the study,low variability in NO3–deposition and a decrease in NH4+deposition *** loads increased by 20–30% when precipitation passed through the *** cumulative deposition of S,Cl,Na,K,Ca,and N was greater under *** than under ***,K deposition in throughfall was considerably lower under *** compared to the *** or mixed *** S depositions declined across all three coniferous ***,there was no specific effect of tree species on throughfall chemistry.

International Healthcare Terminologies for Morbidity New Era: SNOMED and ICD11

The Information Technology (IT) developments have changed the use of Healthcare terminologies from paper-based mortality statistics with the WHO international classifications of diseases (ICD) to the IT-based morbidity implementations for instance for Casemix-based healthcare funding and managing systems. This higher level of granularity is worldwide spread under the umbrella of several national modifications named ICD10 XM. These developments have met the increased use of the International Clinical Reference Terminology named SNOMED. When the updating of WHO ICD10 to WHO ICD11 was decided a merging was envisaged and a WHO SNOMED CT common work proposed a methodology to create a common formal ontology between the 11th version of the WHO International Classification of Diseases and Health Problems (ICD) and the most used in the world clinical terminology named Systematized Nomenclature of Human and Veterinary Medicine - Clinical Terms (SCT). The present work follows this unachieved work and aims to develop a SNOMED-based formal ontology for ICD11 chapter 1 using the textual definitions of ICD11 codes which is a completely new character of ICD and the ontology tools provided by SCT in the publicly available SNOMED browser. There are two key results: the lexical alignment is complete and the ontology alignment is incomplete with the validated SNOMED concept model can be completed with not yet validated attributes and values of the SNOMED Compositional Grammar. The work opens a new era for the seamless use of both international terminologies for morbidity for instance for DRG/Casemix and clinical management use. The main limitation is that it is restricted to 1 out of 26 chapters of ICD11.

Adsorption of Congo Red from Aqueous Solution Using CTAb-Kaolin from bechar Algeria

Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-modified kaolin (CTAb-kaolin or KC) was prepared and tested as an adsorbent for an anionic dye Congo red (CR) removal from aqueous solution in comparison with natural kaolin (K). The effect of various experimental parameters was investigated using a batch adsorption technique. In this manner, the adsorption isotherms and adsorption kinetics of CR on K and KC were examined. The isothermal data could be well described by the Langmuir equation and the dynamical data fit well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption capacity of modified kaolin KC (24.46 mg/g) was found to be around 4 times higher than that of natural kaolin K (5.94 mg/g). The KC demonstrated the highest adsorption capacity by removing over 98% of CR after ten minutes of contact. These results indicate that CTAb-kaolin could be employed as low-cost alternative to activated carbon in wastewater treatment for the removal of colour which comes from industrial effluents of textile activities, tanning or printing.

Chemical Composition of Pellonula leonensis Fish Oils from the Congo River Obtained by Soxhlet Extraction

The chemical composition of Pellonula leonensis fish oils from the Congo River (at boko city) was carried out. The fatty acids were determined by gas chromatography. The Sn-2 position of fatty acids on glycerol was carried out by the ISO 6800 standard. The separation of the compounds (as free fatty acids, monoglycerides, diglycerides, triglycerides, sterols and methyl esters, etc.) was carried out by HPLC using gel permeation with refractometric detection. The phospholipid composition was by HPLC with an evaporative light scattering detector. We obtained oil contents of 32.10 (±0.46)%. The major fatty acids were Palmitic acid (27.41%) and oleic acid (24.23%). The SFA were of 44.50%. The MUFA represent 32.54% and PUFA 22.60%. Regarding the Sn-2 position on glycerol, 48.0% were by SFA and 51.3% were by unsaturated fatty acids. Among them 34.2% of fatty acids were 17.5% oleic acid molecules, 3.3% DHA molecules and 2.1% EPA molecules. Free fatty acids have contents of more than 62%, Diglycerides 16.63% and triglycerides 20.46%. Seven different phospholipids were identified, namely: Phosphatidylglycerol (PG), Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), Phosphatidylinositol (PI), Phosphatidylcholine (PC), Sphingomyelin (SM), Lyso Phosphatitdylcholine (LPC) and Lyso Phosphatidylethanolamine (LPE). According to the high levels in position 2 of the glycerol of palmitic acid, the consumption of Pellonula leonensis fish could be moderate.

bACKGROUND Patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria(PNH)have a clonal population of blood cells deficient in glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored(GPIanchored)proteins,most of the time resulting from a mutation in the X-linked gene *** report a patient with PNH resulting from a rare biallelic PIGT mutation on chromosome *** SUMMARY A 47-year-old man was referred to our hospital for febrile *** patient reported a history of recurrent urticaria and arthralgia and he presented during 3 mo recurrent acute dermo-hypodermitis and aseptic *** on clinical cases published with PIGT-PNH,with clinically typical PNH and autoinflammatory symptoms,we treated our patients with repeated infusions of eculizumab to decrease autoinflammatory symptoms and then we performed an allogeneic stem cell transplantation(allo-SCT)with a mismatched unrelated *** patient experienced no acute Graft vs Host disease(GvHD)and a moderate chronic GvHD and is now considered cured at 24 mo after *** This case report suggests that allo-SCT should be considered to cure PIGT-PNH patients.

Potentially toxic trace elements, such as zinc, with high levels in water are very serious problems in many places around the world, sometimes in relation to natural sources and in other cases to anthropogenic ones. Adsorption process is among the most effective techniques for removing of many heavy metal ions from different types of water. In this study, an attempt has been made to investigate the efficiency of Calotropis procera roots (CP) in removing of Zn(II) from aqueous solution by using batch mode technique. During the removal process, the effects of solution pH, Zn concentrations and contact time on adsorption efficiency by CP roots were studied. Experimental equilibrium data were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The results showed that the best fit was achieved with the Langmuir isotherm equation with maximum adsorption capacity of 9.69 mg/g. The biosorption of Zn(II) was a fast process and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic.

Primary Cutaneous Leiomyosarcoma of the Face: A Rare Tumor that Is Difficult to Diagnose

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare malignant tumour of the lower limbs. Its differential histological diagnosis is difficult and is made in the presence of young scar tissue, leimyoma, dermatofibroma, melanoma, rabdomyosarcoma, sarcomatoid carcinoma, fibroxantoma, Darrier Ferrand dermatofibrosarcoma and myofibroblastic tumours. Treatment is essentially surgical, with margins of 3 to 5 centimetres. We report two observations of tumours localised to the face, including one case of a known leiomyosarcoma and another case initially diagnosed as a leiomyosarcoma which turned out to be a cellular myofibroma with no sign of malignancy after several readings. The aim of this work is to review the literature on this pathology while highlighting the diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties. Conclusion: A rare smooth muscle tumour with a high risk of local recurrence in the event of incomplete treatment, leiomyosarcoma in its dermal component is preferentially located in the head and neck. Its treatment is exclusively surgical and highly mutilating.
