In our previous study, the effects of the interval between the cylinder and the airfoil on the aerodynamic sound were investigated and compared with the cases of single circular and single airfoil. In this study, the effects of the attack angle of the airfoil located downstream on the characteristics of aerodynamic sound and the wake structure are investigated at a given interval between the cylinder and the airfoil. It is found that the sound pressure level of DFN and the peak frequency decrease with increasing attack angle of airfoil because of the diffusive wake structure due to the increased back pressure of circular cylinder, which is caused by the blocking effect of airfoil. It is shown that the sound sources are corresponded to the attack points of shedding vortex form the upstream circular cylinder to the downstream airfoil. We conclude that the pressure fluctuation at the airfoil surface effects on the sound pressure level, from the flow visualizations and the exploration test of sound source.

We herein report the rare complication of sepsis caused by endoscopic clipping for colonic diverticular bleeding. A 78-year-old man with a 12-h history of near syncope and painless hematochezia was admitted to our hospital. Following the transfusion of 4 U of blood and continued hematochezia, a colonoscopy was performed. Active bleeding was seen as continuous arterial spurting from a single diverticulum located in the middle ascending colon. This diverticulum was seamed by four endoclips. The next day, the patient became febrile with a temperature of 39.2℃. Laboratory data included a white blood cell count of 18 100/mm3 and a C-reactive protein level of 3.4 mg/dL. He was diagnosed with sepsis since Escherichia coli was detected in the blood culture. Antibiotics were started. Four days later his fever had improved and laboratory data improved 9 d later.

Scattering Characteristics of Liquid Droplets Spun Off from Rotating Disk Edge

Scattering characteristics of liquid droplets spun off from a rotating disk edge are experimentally investigated. In the present research, aluminum disks are utilized and ethanol is employed for liquid. Scattering phenomena of the droplets are captured by the high-speed digital camera. Frequency distribution of the droplet diameter is evaluated from these images and distributions of horizontal flying velocity and angle of the droplets were measured by PTV. Liquid filaments are stretched outward from the stagnant liquid layer by centrifugal force and skew complicatedly by aerodynamic force. Some peaks appear in the distribution of the scattered droplet diameter and they are origi- nated from large terminal droplets and small droplets generated from filamentwise breakup. Most of the scattered droplets fly slightly inside in the tangential direction of the disk edge. The droplets spun off from the thin disk scatter widely compared with that from the thick one.

This paper explored the feasibility and benefit of CO2 utilization as gasifying agent in the autothermal gasification process. The effects of CO2 injection on reaction temperature and producer gas composition were examined in a pilot scale downdraft gasifier by varying the CO2/C ratio from 0.6 to 1.6. O2 was injected at an equivalence ratio of approximately 0.33-0.38 for supply- ing heat through partial combustion. The results were also compared with those of air gasification. In general, the increase in CO2 injection resulted in the shift of combustion zone to the downstream of the gasifier. However, compared with that of air gasification, the long and distributed high temperature zones were obtained in CO2-O2 gasification with a CO2/C ratio of 0.6-1.2. The progress of the expected CO2 to CO conversion can be implied from the relatively insignificant decrease in CO fraction as the CO2/C ratio increased. The producer gas heating value of CO2-O2 gasification was consistently higher than that of air gasification. These results show the potential of CO2-O2 gasification for producing high qualityproducer gas in an efficient manner, and the necessity for more work to deeply imply the observation.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is efficient for en bloc resection of large colorectal tumors. However, it has several technical difficulties, because the wall of the colon is thin and due to the winding nature of the colon. The main complications of ESD comprise postoperative perforation and hemorrhage, similar to endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). In particular, the rate of perforation in ESD is higher than that in EMR. Perforation of the colon can cause fatal peritonitis. Endoscopic clipping is reported to be an efficient therapy for perforation. Most cases with perforation are treated conservatively without urgent surgical intervention. However, the rate of postoperative hemorrhage in ESD is similar to that in EMR. Endoscopic therapy including endoscopic clipping is performed and most of the cases are treated conservatively without blood transfusion. In blood examination, some degree of inflammation is detected after ESD. For the standardization of ESD, it is most important to decrease the rate of perforation. Adopting a safe strategy for ESD and a suitable choice of knife are both important waysof preventing perforation. Moreover, appropriate training and increasing experience can improve the endoscopic technique and can decrease the rate of perforation. In this review, we describe safe procedures in ESD to prevent complications, the complications of ESD and their management.

Despite being within the intertropical region of the planet,the Mexican territory still has glacier-covered *** recent decades,important advances have been made in studies on glaciology and periglacial environment in Mexico both for current and past ***,in spite of Cofre de Perote volcano(4200 m a.s.l.)being a strategically located mountain,it has not yet been studied in regards to the glacial and periglacial processes;in fact,those dynamics have modified the mountain massifs in the *** complement the series of studies on glacial history in the high mountain environment of México,this study reconstructs the glacial cover and the periglacial environment of the volcano surface during the final stage of the Late Pleistocene based on climatic retrospective and through the identification of geomorphological *** findings indicate the existence of a large glacier(ice cap)that covered the northern,western,and southern slopes of the mountain;while in the eastern sector there were two small glaciers,one being of cirque type,and the other of valley *** current temperature conditions prevent the occurrence of permanent ice bodies;at the same time,it was found that the periglacial blockfields of the slopes is a legacy of the climatic conditions that prevailed at the end of Late Pleistocene.

Recently,development of high technology has been required for the formation of uniform thin film in manufacturing processes of semiconductor as the precision instruments become more sophisticated.A method called spin coating is often used for spreading photoresist on a wafer surface and drying photoresist *** spin coating process,photoresist is uniformly spread on the wafer surface by centrifugal force caused by rotating ***,it is a serious concern that streaky lines,which are caused by spiral vortices,appear on the wafer surface and prevent the formation of uniform film in the case of high rotating *** the other hand,in the case of low rotating speed,a small hump of the film is formed near the wafer *** main purpose of this study is to make clear the drying characteristics of the flowing liquid film on the rotating *** distribution of the flowing liquid film is captured by an infrared thermal video camera and radial gradient of the film temperature is introduced in order to evaluate the drying characteristic of the flowing film under steady state *** of the flow rate of the liquid film on the film temperature are *** film temperature gradually decreases in the radial direction in all *** low rotating speed,the radial gradient of the film temperature is almost constant *** the other hand,at high rotating speed,the radial gradient of the film temperature takes a certain maximum *** is found that the location of the gradient peak corresponds with the transition region of the air boundary layer,in which spiral vortices swirl,and shifts to the inner side of the disk with an increase of the liquid flow rate.

The aim of this study was to isolate algicidal bacteria so as to control harmful cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa （M. aeruginosa） blooms using biological methods. Nine bacterial strains were isolated to inhibit the growth ofM. aeruginosa, among which the Mail 1-5 bacterial strain exhibited remarkable algicidal activity against M. aeruginosa cells during the test. Based on the 16S rDNA analysis, the isolated Mail 1-5 was identified as Pedobacter sp. through morphology and homology research. The results of cocultivation of the cyanobacteria with MaI 11-5 algicidal isolates showed obvious algicidal activity against cyanobacterial cells. The algicidal effect of Mail 1-5 exceeded 50% after two days, exceeded 70% after four days, and reached 80% after seven days. The observation results with a scanning electron microscope showed that the cyanobacterial cells aggregated and produced mucous-like substances when cocultivated with the algicidal bacteria. The results indicated that the Mail 1-5 bacterial strain may possess a novel function for controlling harmful blooms and further studies will provide new insights into its role in water environment.
