Imaging Carotid Plaque Burden in Living Mice via Hybrid Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles-Based Near-Infrared-II Fluorescence and magnetic Resonance Imaging

The majority of atherothrombotic events (e.g., cerebral or myocardial infarction) often occur as a result of plaque rupture or erosion in the carotid, and thereby it is urgent to assess plaque vulnerability and predict adverse cerebrovascular events. However, the monitoring evolution from stable plaque into life-threatening high-risk plaque in the slender carotid artery is a great challenge, due to not enough spatial resolution for imaging the carotid artery based on most of reported fluorescent probes. Herein, copolymerizing with the small molecules of acceptor-donor-acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A′-D-A) and the electron-donating units (D′), the screened second near-infrared (NIR-II) nanoprobe presents high quantum yield and good stability, so that it enables to image slender carotid vessel with enough spatial resolution. encouragingly, NIR-II nanoprobe can effectively target to intraplaque macrophage, meanwhile distinguishing vulnerable plaque in carotid atherosclerosis in living mice. Moreover, the NIR-II nanoprobe can dynamically monitor the fresh bleeding spots in carotid plaque, indicating the increased risk of plaque instability. Besides, magnetic resonance imaging is integrated with NIR-II fluorescence imaging to provide contrast for subtle structure (e.g., narrow lumen and lipid pool), via incorporating ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide into the NIR-II nanoprobe. Thus, such hybrid NIR-II/magnetic resonance imaging multimodal nanoprobe provides an effective tool for assessing carotid plaque burden, selecting high-risk plaque, and imaging intraplaque hemorrhage, which is promising for reducing cerebral/ myocardial infarction-associated morbidity and mortality.

Objective:Lilium brownii ***(LB)and ***(LL)are the main sources of medicinal lily(Lilii Bulbus,Baihe in Chinese)in ***,the functional components of these two species responsible for the treatment efficacy are yet not *** order to explore the therapeutic material basis of Lilii Bulbus,we selected *** ***(LD)only used for food as the control group to analyze the differences between LD and the other two(LB and LL).Methods:Metabolome and transcriptome were carried out to investigate the differences of active components in LD vs LB and LD vs *** of metabolome and transcriptome was analysed using various analysis methods,such as principal component analysis(PCA),hierarchical cluster analysis(HCA),and so *** expressed genes(DeGs)were enriched through KeGG and GO enrichment ***:The PCA and HCA of the metabolome indicated the metabolites were clearly separated and varied greatly in LL and LB contrasted with *** were 318 significantly differential metabolites(SDMs)in LD vs LB group and 298 SDMs in LD vs LL *** with LD group,the significant up-regulation of steroidal saponins and steroidal alkaloids were detected both in LB and LL groups,especially in LB *** HCA of transcriptome indicated that there was significant difference in LB vs LD group,while the difference between LL and LD varied ***,47540 DeGs in LD vs LB group and 18958 DeGs in LD vs LL group were ***,CYP450s involving in the biosynthesis of steroidal saponins and steroidal alkaloids were detected,and comparing with LD,CYP724,CYP710A,and CYP734A1 in LB and CYP90B in LL were all ***:This study suggested that steroidal saponins and steroidal alkaloids maybe the representative functional components of Lilii Bulbus,which can provide new insights for Lilii Bulbus used in the research and development of classic famous formula.

The infamous type Ⅳ failure within the fine-grained heat-affected zone (FGHAZ) in G115 steel weldments seriously threatens the safe operation of ultra-supercritical (USC) power *** this work,the traditional thermo-mechanical treatment was modified via the replacement of hot-rolling with cold rolling,i.e.,normalizing,cold rolling,and tempering (NCT),which was developed to improve the creep strength of the FGHAZ in G115 steel *** NCT treatment effectively promoted the dissolution of preformed M_(23)C_(6)particles and relieved the boundary segregation of C and Cr during welding thermal cycling,which accelerated the dispersed reprecipitation of M_(23)C_(6) particles within the fresh reaustenitized grains during post-weld heat *** addition,the precipitation of Cu-rich phases and MX particles was promoted evidently due to the deformation-induced *** a result,the interacting actions between precipitates,dislocations,and boundaries during creep were reinforced *** this strategy,the creep rupture life of the FGHAZ in G115 steel weldments can be prolonged by 18.6%,which can further push the application of G115 steel in USC power plants.

Impact of ozonation on disinfection byproducts formation from phenylalanine during chlorination

As a strong oxidizing agent,ozone is used in some water treatment facilities for disinfection,taste and odor control,and removal of organic ***(Phe)was used as the target amino acid to comprehensively investigate variability of disinfection byproducts(DBPs)formation during chlorine disinfection and residual chlorine conditions subsequent to *** results showed that subsequent to ozonation,the typical regulated and unregulated DBPs formation potential(DBPsFP),including trichloromethane(TCM),dichloroacetonitrile(DCAN),chloral hydrate(CH),dichloroacetic acid(DCAA),trichloroacetic acid(TCAA),and trichloroacetamide(TCAcAm)increased substantially,by 2.4,3.3,5.6,1.2,2.5,and 6.0 times,respectively,compared with only *** also significantly increased the DBPs yield under a 2 day simulated residual chlorine condition that mimicked the water distribution *** formations followed pseudo first order *** formation rates of DBPs in the first 6 hr were higher for TCM(0.214 hr^(−1)),DCAN(0.244 hr^(−1)),CH(0.105 hr^(−1)),TCAcAm(0.234 hr^(−1)),DCAA(0.375 hr^(−1))and TCAA(0.190 hr^(−1))than *** peak DBPsFP of TCM,DCAN,CH,TCAcAm,DCAA,and TCAA were obtained when that ozonation time was set at 5–15 *** times>30 min increased the mineralization of Phe and decreased the formation of DBPs upon *** bromine ion(Br^(−1))concentration increased production of bromine-DBPs and decreased chlorine-DBPs formation by 59.3%–92.2%.Higher ozone dosages and slight alkaline favored to reduce DBP formation and *** ozonation conditions should be optimized for all application purposes including DBPs reduction.

To improve the amylose content(AC)and resistant starch content(RSC)of maize kernel starch,we employed the CRISPR/Cas9 system to create mutants of starch branching enzyme I(SBeI)and starch branching enzyme IIb(SBeIIb).A frameshift mutation in SBeI(e1,a nucleotide insertion in exon 6)led to plants with higher RSC(1.07%),lower hundred-kernel weight(HKW,24.71±0.14 g),and lower plant height(PH,218.50±9.42 cm)compared to the wild type(WT).Like the WT,e1 kernel starch had irregular,polygonal shapes with sharp edges.A frameshift mutation in SBeIIb(e2,a four-nucleotide deletion in exon 8)led to higher AC(53.48%)and higher RSC(26.93%)than that for the WT.e2 kernel starch was significantly different from the WT regarding granule morphology,chain length distribution pattern,X-ray diffraction pattern,and thermal characteristics;the starch granules were more irregular in shape and comprised typical B-type *** SBeI and SBeIIb(e12)had a synergistic effect on RSC,HKW,PH,starch properties,and starch biosynthesis-associated gene ***,SS1,SSIIa,SSIIIa,and SSIIIb were upregulated in e12 endosperm compared to WT *** study lays the foundation for rapidly improving the starch properties of elite maize lines.

Themass production and the practical number of cryogenic quantum devices producible in a single chip are limited to the number of electrical contact pads and wiring of the cryostat or dilution *** is,therefore,beneficial to contrast themeasurements of hundreds of devices fabricated in a single chip in one cooldown process to promote the scalability,integrability,reliability,and reproducibility of quantum devices and to save evaluation time,cost and ***,we used a cryogenic on-chip multiplexer architecture and investigated the statistics of the 0.7 anomaly observed on the first three plateaus of the quantized conductance of semiconductor quantum point contact(QPC)*** single chips contain 256 split gate field-effect QPC transistors(QFeT)each,with two 16-branch multiplexed source-drain and gate pads,allowing individual transistors to be selected,addressed and controlled through an electrostatic gate voltage process.A total of 1280 quantum transistors with nano-scale dimensions are patterned in 5 different chips of GaAs *** the measurements of 571 functioning QFeTs taken at temperatures T[1.4 K and T[40 mK,it is found that the spontaneous polarisation model and Kondo effect do not fit our ***,some of the features in our data largely agreed with van Hove model with short-range *** approach provides further insight into the quantum mechanical properties and microscopic origin of the 0.7 anomaly in QFeTs,paving the way for the development of semiconducting quantum circuits and integrated cryogenic electronics,for scalable quantum logic control,readout,synthesis,and processing applications.

Species’ geographical range, environmental range and traits lead to specimen collection preference of dominant plant species of grasslands in Northern China

many different factors,such as species traits,socio-economic factors,geographical and environmental factors,can lead to specimen collection *** study aims to determine whether grassland specimen collection in China is preferred by species traits(i.e.,plant height,flowering and fruiting period),environmental range(i.e.,the temperature and precipitation range)and geographical range(i.e.,distribution range and altitudinal range).Ordinary least squares models and phylogenetic generalized linear mixed models were used to analyze the relationships between specimen number and the explanatory *** Forest models were then used to find the most parsimonious multivariate *** results showed that interannual variation in specimen number between 1900 and 2020 was *** number of these species in southeast China was notably lower than that in northwest *** range and geographical range of species had significant positive correlations with specimen *** addition,there were relatively weak but significant associations between specimen number and species trait(i.e.,plant height and flowering and fruiting period).Random Forest models indicated that distribution range was the most important variable,followed by flowering and fruiting period,and altitudinal *** findings suggest that future floristic surveys should pay more attention to species with small geographical range,narrow environmental range,short plant height,and short flowering and fruiting *** correction of specimen collection preference will also make the results of species distribution model,species evolution and other works based on specimen data more accurate.

Preparation of tungsten-particle-reinforced Zr-based bulk metallic glass composites by two-step spark plasma sintering:microstructure evolution,densification mechanism and mechanical properties

A new two-step spark plasma sintering(TSS)process with low-temperature pre-sintering and high-temperature final sintering has been successfully applied to prepare the tungsten-particle(Wp)-reinforced bulk metallic glass composites(Wp/BMGCs).Compared to normal spark plasma sintering(NS),the densification rate and relative density of Wp/BMGCs can be improved by selecting TSS with appropriate sintering pressure in the low temperature pre-sintering ***,the compressive strength and plastic strain of 30%Wp/BMGCs prepared by TSS are both higher than those of the samples prepared by *** TSS process can significantly enhance the compressive strength of 30%Wp/BMGCs by 12%and remarkably increase the plastic strain by 50%,while the trend is completely opposite for 50%Wp/***-in situ experiments and finite element simulations reveal that uneven temperature distribution among particles during low-temperature pre-sintering causes local overheating at contact points between particles,accelerating formation of sintering neck between particles and plastic deformation of *** the volume fraction of Wp is low,TSS can improve the interface bonding between particles by increasing the number of sintering *** makes the fracture mode of Wp/BMGCs being predominantly transgranular ***,as the volume fraction of Wp increases,the adverse effects of Wp plastic deformation are becoming more and more *** aggregated Wp tends to form a solid"cage structure"that hinders the bonding between particles at the interface;correspondingly,the fracture behavior of Wp/BMGCs is mainly dominated by intergranular ***,reducing the sintering pressure during the low-temperature pre-sintering stage of TSS has been shown to effectively decrease plastic deformation in Wp,resulting in a higher degree of densification and better mechanical properties.

The mid-domain effect in flowering phenology

The timing of flowering is an important driver of species distribution and community assembly ***,we still have much to learn about the factors that shape flowering diversity(i.e.,number of species flowering per period) in plant *** potential explanation of flowering diversity is the mid-domain effect,which states that geometric constraints on species ranges within a bounded domain(space or time) will yield a mid-domain peak in diversity regardless of ecological ***,we determine whether the mid-domain effect explains peak flowering time(i.e.,when most species of communities are flowering) across *** used phenological data of 16,267 herbaceous and woody species from the provincial Flora in China and species distribution data from the Chinese Vascular Plant Distribution Database to determine relationships between the observed number of species flowering and the number of species flowering as predicted by the mid-domain effect model,as well as between three climatic variables(mean minimum monthly temperature,mean monthly precipitation,and mean monthly sunshine duration).We found that the mid-domain effect explained a significant proportion of the temporal variation in flowering diversity across all species in ***,the mid-domain effect explained a greater proportion of variance in flowering diversity at higher latitudes than at lower *** patterns of flowering diversity for both herbaceous and woody species were related to both the mid-domain effect and environmental *** findings indicate that including geometric constraints in conjunction with abiotic and biotic predictors will improve predictions of flowering diversity patterns.
