Comparative study between three carbonaceous nanoblades and nanodarts for antimicrobial applications

The design of nanostructured materials occupies a privileged position in the development and management of affordable and effective technology in the antibacterial ***,we discuss the antimicrobial properties of three carbonaceous nanoblades and nanodarts materials of graphene oxide(GO),reduced graphene oxide(RGO),and single-wall carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)that have a mechano-bactericidal effect,and the ability to piercing or slicing bacterial *** demonstrate the significance of size,morphology and composition on the antibacterial activity mechanism,the designed nanomaterials have been *** minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC),standard agar well diffusion,and transmission electron microscopy were utilized to evaluate the antibacterial activity of GO,RGO,and *** on the evidence obtained,the three carbonaceous materials exhibit activity against all microbial strains tested by completely encapsulating bacterial cells and causing morphological disruption by degrading the microbial cell membrane in the order of RGO>GO>*** of the external cell wall structure and outer membrane proteins,the synthesized carbonaceous nanomaterials exhibited higher antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacterial strains than Gram-negative and fungal *** had the lowest MIC values(0.062,0.125,and 0.25 mg/mL against ***,***,and ***,respectively),as well as minimum fungal concentrations(0.5 mg/mL for both *** and ***).At 12 hr,the cell viability values against tested microbial strains were completely *** lysis and death occurred as a result of severe membrane damage caused by microorganisms perched on RGO *** work gives an insight into the design of effective graphene-based antimicrobial materials for water treatment and remediation.

Paraoxonase 1 gene (Gln<sup>192</sup>-Arg) polymorphism and the risk of coronary artery disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus

Background: Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is reported to have an antioxidant and cardioprotective properties. Recently, an association of glutamine (Gln) or (type A)/arginine (Arg) or (type B) polymorphism at position 192 of PON1 gene has been suggested with coronary artery disease (CAD) among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). However, conflicting results have also been reported. Objectives: To investigate the relationship between PON1 gene (Gln192-Arg) poly-morphism and the presence, extent and severity of CAD in type 2 DM. Methods: The study comprised 180 patients recruited from those undergoing coronary angiography for suspected CAD, who were divided according to the presence or absence of CAD and DM into 4 groups;Group I (n = 40 patients) nondiabetic subjects without CAD, Group II (n = 45 patients) diabetic patients without CAD, Group III (n = 47 patients) non diabetic patients with CAD and Group IV (n = 48 patients) diabetic patients with CAD. PON1 (Gln192-Arg) genotype was assessed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by AlwI digestion. Results: The frequency of Gln allele (Type A) was significantly higher in group I and group II compared to group III and group IV (62.5%, 60% vs 38.3%, 31.25% respectively, p 100 mg/dL [OR 4.31, CI (1.25 - 12.5), P < 0.001], high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol <40 mg/dL [OR 5.11, CI (1.79 - 16.33), P < 0.001] and PON1 192 Arg allele [OR 4.62, CI (1.67 - 13.57), P < 0.001] were significantly independent predictors of CAD. Conclusion: Arg allele of PON1 192 gene polymorphism is an independent risk factor for CAD and it is associated not only with the presence of CAD but also with its extent and severity and its impact is clearly more pronounced in diabetic patients.

The impact of foot reflexology on fatigue and sleep quality in school-aged children undergoing hemodialysis

Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the effects of foot reflexology on fatigue and sleep quality in school-aged children receiving ***:A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was *** children of ages 6-12 undergoing in-center hemodialysis were *** Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)and Inventory of Fatigue Symptom(IFS)scales were administered at *** then received 30 min of foot reflexology massage before hemodialysis sessions 3 days per week for 12 *** administration of the sleep and fatigue scales occurred after the intervention ***:Reflexology massage led to significant improvements in sleep quality components,including duration(0%-30%normal sleepers),efficiency(0%-50%>85%),latency(50%-0%>60 min),disturbances,and daytime *** mean PSQI score decreased from 18.2 to 9.7(P<0.05).Fatigue severity substantially decreased,with the mean IFS score improving from 105.7 to 64.1(P<0.05).Conclusion:Foot reflexology is an effective nursing intervention for reducing fatigue and improving sleep quality in children on hemodialysis,warranting integration into routine care.

Standardization of meibomian gland dysfunction in an Egyptian population sample using a non-contact meibography technique

AIM:To develop normative data for meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)parameters,using non-contact meibography technique of Sirius Costruzione Strumenti Oftalmici(CSO)machine,in an Egyptian population ***:Observational,cross-sectional,analytic study,in which 104 Egyptian volunteers were *** upper lids were examined,using“Sirius CSO”*** eyelid was given a degree of meibomian gland loss(MGL),which was calculated by the software of the ***:Mean percentage MGL in right upper lid was of 30.9%±12.6%,and that of left upper lid was 32.6%±11.8%.Thirty-four volunteers(32.7%)had first-degree MGL in their right upper lid,and 67.3%had second-degree *** volunteer(1%)had zero-degree MGL in left upper lid,28(26.9%)had first-degree loss,and 75(72.1%)had second-degree *** of MGL in right upper eyelid was not related to age,but degree of MGL in left upper eyelid increased with *** was statistically significant difference between both genders for degree of MGL in right eye(P=0.036)and in left eye(P=0.027).CONCLUSION:Noncontact meibography is a useful non-invasive tool for diagnosing *** is diagnosed in 100%of apparently normal individuals;26.9%-32.7%of which have first-degree MGL,and 67.3%-72.1%have second-degree MGL.

Evaluating the influence of a structured nursing protocol on targeted outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis patients

Objective:Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)requires comprehensive *** nursing protocols may enhance outcomes,but evidence is *** study evaluated the effect of a structured nursing protocol on RA *** and Methods:In this one-group pre-post study,30 Egyptian RA patients completed assessments before and after a 12-week nursing protocol comprising education,psychosocial support,and self-management *** included clinical evaluation of joint counts,erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),and C-reactive protein(CRP)and patient-reported Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale(ASES),Health Assessment Questionnaire(HAQ),Visual Analog Scale(VAS)for pain,and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).Results:The study demonstrated significant improvements in both clinical-and patient-reported *** count decreased from 18.4±4.2 to 14.2±3.8(P<0.001),ESR from 30.1±6.8 mm/h to 25.5±6.8 mm/h(P<0.01),and CRP levels from 15.2±3.6 mg/L to 11.8±2.9 mg/L(P<0.01)***-reported outcomes showed a marked increase in ASES score from 140±25 to 170±30(P<0.001)and reductions in HAQ from 1.6±0.4 to 1.3±0.3(P<0.01),VAS pain score from 7.8±1.7 to 6.2±1.2(P<0.001),and HADS anxiety and depression scores from 11±3 to 8±2(P<0.05)and 10±2 to 7±1(P<0.05),***:A structured nursing protocol significantly improved clinical disease activity,physical functioning,pain,self-efficacy,and emotional well-being in RA patients.A multifaceted nursing intervention appears beneficial for optimizing RA outcomes.

Sentiment analysis is based on the orientation of user attitudes and satisfaction towards services and *** methods and techniques have been introduced to analyze sentiments for obtaining high *** sentiment analysis accuracy depends mainly on supervised and unsupervised *** mechanisms are based on machine learning algorithms that achieve moderate or high accuracy but the manual annotation of data is considered a time-consuming *** unsupervised mechanisms,a lexicon is constructed for storing polarity *** accuracy of analyzing data is considered moderate or low if the lexicon contains small *** addition,most research methodologies analyze datasets using only 3-weight polarity that can mainly affect the performance of the analysis *** both methods for obtaining high accuracy and efficiency with low user intervention during the analysis process is considered a challenging *** paper provides a comprehensive evaluation of polarity weights and mechanisms for recent sentiment analysis research.A semi-supervised framework is applied for processing data using both lexicon and machine learning *** interactive sentiment analysis algorithm is proposed for distributing multi-weight polarities on Arabic lexicons that contain high morphological and linguistic *** enhanced scaling algorithm is embedded in the multi-weight algorithm to assign recommended weight polarities *** experimental results are conducted on two datasets to measure the over-all accuracy of proposed algorithms that achieved high results when compared to machine learning algorithms.

Advanced Authentication Mechanisms for Identity and Access Management inCloud Computing

Identity management is based on the creation and management of useridentities for granting access to the cloud resources based on the user *** cloud identity and access management (IAM) grants the authorization tothe end-users to perform different actions on the specified cloud resources. Theauthorizations in the IAM are grouped into roles instead of granting them directlyto the end-users. Due to the multiplicity of cloud locations where data resides anddue to the lack of a centralized user authority for granting or denying cloud userrequests, there must be several security strategies and models to overcome theseissues. Another major concern in IAM services is the excessive or the lack ofaccess level to different users with previously granted authorizations. This paperproposes a comprehensive review of security services and threats. Based on thepresented services and threats, advanced frameworks for IAM that provideauthentication mechanisms in public and private cloud platforms. A threat modelhas been applied to validate the proposed authentication frameworks with different security threats. The proposed models proved high efficiency in protectingcloud platforms from insider attacks, single sign-on failure, brute force attacks,denial of service, user privacy threats, and data privacy threats.

In the past three decades,laser warning systems(LWS)have emerged in great importance,as the development of laser-guided weapons,such as airborne Hellfire missiles,has increased,posing an imminent threat to vital areas and *** laser warning station(LWS)can detect,classify,identify,and give alarm from laser threat at a very short time with high ***,the designers of this system must take into account the detectability and field of view to cover the area to be *** main contribution in this research is an analytical design of LWS that consists of 24 detector elements,distributed in two arrays(2×12)***,calculating the best distance between the detectors according to the laser beam spot *** addition,enhancement laser warring sensor detection capability and detection performance FOV between the detectors to increase coverage area up to 360°.Moreover,decreasing dead zone area between the laser detectors *** calculations and illustrations made to reach the best systematic design.

Direct Power Control Based on Dead-beat Function and Extended Kalman Filter for PV Systems

In this paper,a new proposal for the implementation of the well-known direct power control(DPC)technique in grid-connected photovoltaic(PV)systems is ***,the DPC is executed using a look-up table procedure based on the error between the actual and reference values of the active and reactive ***,the structure of the DPC is simple and results in a fast transient behavior of the inner current loop(injected currents).Therefore,in the current study,the DPC is reformulated using a dead-beat *** this formulation,the reference voltage vector(RVV)is obtained in theα-βreference ***,the switching states for the inverter can be obtained based on the sign of the components of the *** suggested DPC is compared with the conventional one and other switching tables,which are intended for performance ***,an extended Kalman filter(EKF)is utilized to eliminate all grid-voltage ***,the switching frequency of the proposed technique is minimized without any need for weighting factors or cost function *** overall control technique is validated using a hardware-in-the-loop(HIL)experimental set-up and compared with other schemes under different operating conditions.

Prediction of COVID-19 Transmission in the United States Using Google Search Trends

Accurate forecasting of emerging infectious diseases can guide public health officials in making appropriate decisions related to the allocation of public health *** to the exponential spread of the COVID-19 infection worldwide,several computational models for forecasting the transmission and mortality rates of COVID-19 have been proposed in the *** accelerate scientific and public health insights into the spread and impact of COVID-19,Google released the Google COVID-19 search trends symptoms open-access *** objective is to develop 7 and 14-day-ahead forecasting models of COVID-19 transmission and mortality in the US using the Google search trends for COVID-19 related ***,we propose a stacked long short-term memory(SLSTM)architecture for predicting COVID-19 confirmed and death cases using historical time series data combined with auxiliary time series data from the Google COVID-19 search trends symptoms *** the SLSTM networks trained using historical data only as the base models,our base models for 7 and 14-day-ahead forecasting of COVID cases had the mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)values of 6.6%and 8.8%,*** the other side,our proposed models had improved MAPE values of 3.2%and 5.6%,*** 7 and 14-day-ahead forecasting of COVID-19 deaths,the MAPE values of the base models were 4.8%and 11.4%,while the improved MAPE values of our proposed models were 4.7%and 7.8%,*** found that the Google search trends for“pneumonia,”“shortness of breath,”and“fever”are the most informative search trends for predicting COVID-19 *** also found that the search trends for“hypoxia”and“fever”were the most informative trends for forecasting COVID-19 mortality.
