Aqueous extracts of microalgae exhibit antioxidant and anticancer activities

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and anticancer activities of aqueous extracts of nine microalgal ***:Variable percentages of major secondary metabolites(total phenolic content,terpenoids and alkaloids) as well as phycobiliprotein pigments(phycocyanin, allophycocyanin and phycoerythrin) in the aqueous algal extracts were *** activity of the algal extracts was performed using 2,2 diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) test and 2,2'azino-bis(ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid(ABTS.) radical cation *** efficiency of the algal water extracts was investigated against Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma cell(EACC) and Human hepatocellular cancer cell line(HepG2).Results:Antioxidant activity of the algal extracts was performed using DPPH test and ABTS.^+ radical cation assays which revealed 30.1-72.4%and 32.0-75.9%*** efficiency of the algal water extracts was investigated against Ehdich Ascites Carcinoma Cell(EACC) and Human Hepatocellular cancer cell line(HepG2) with an activity ranged 87.25%and 89.4%*** the promising cyanobacteria species;Nostoc muscorum and Oscillatoria *** nitrogen stress conditions(increasing and decreasing nitrate content of the normal BG11 medium,1.5 g/L),increased nitrate concentration(3,6 and 9 g/L) led to a remarkable increase in phycobilin pigments followed by an increase in both antioxidant and anticancer activities in both cyanobacterial *** the decreased nitrate concentration(0.75,0.37 and 0.0 g/L) induced an obvious decrease in phycobilin pigments with complete absence of allophycocyanin in case of Oscillatoria ***:Nitrogen starvation(0.00 g/L nitrate) induced an increase and comparable antioxidant and anticancer activities to those cultured in the highest nitrate content.

Geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of some gold mine tailings in the Eastern Desert of Egypt

The adverse environmental effects of mine tailings disposal on the surrounding ecosystems are world-wide environmental *** to environmental issues related to tailings discharged on land surface,detailed tailings characterization is a prerequisite for a long-term management *** tailings from four gold mines in Egypt,namely Fatira,El Sid,Barramiya,and Atud were investigated for their geochemical-mineralogical features and the effect of weathering behavior on the release of their heavy *** tailings samples were investigated by mineralogical(XRD and ESEM-EDS),physical(grain-size distribution)and geochemical(XRF)*** of the tailings have uniform silt-size with fine to very finesand and *** tailings have coarse to fine *** carbonate,predominantly calcite was found for the samples from Fatira and Atud,calcite-ankerite from El Sid and dolomite from Barramiya with little ***-mean of Cr(569287 mg/kg),Ni(89191 mg/kg)and Co(4221 mg/kg)values are coinciding with the ultramafic nature in Atud and Barramiya *** Sid tailings have a high-mean concentration of Zn(1357 mg/kg)and Pb(1349 mg/kg).Barramiya tailings have a high-mean As concentration(2635 mg/kg).The Fatira tailings are characterized by high-mean values of Sr(444 mg/kg)and Cu(280 mg/kg)arising from auriferous *** Sr concentrations in Fatira tailings are mainly due to its adsorption to iron *** oxidation is conceded along the cracks and/or the edges of the crystals in the El Sid,Barramiya and Atud *** Threshold Effect Level(TEL)values indicated high contamination from heavy elements to the neighboring *** tailings were deposited downstream into the small *** and water erosion can dissolve efflorescent materials enriched in toxic elements like As,Zn,and Pb at tailings *** release of contaminants could be catastrophic for the environment without mine site rehabilitation strategies.

Cooperative distributed state estimation:resilient topologies against smart spoofers

A network of observers is considered,where through asynchronous(with bounded delay)communications,they cooperatively estimate the states of a linear time-invariant(LTI)*** such a setting,a new type of adversary might affect the observation process by impersonating the identity of the regular node,which is a violation of communication *** adversaries also inherit the capabilities of Byzantine nodes,making them more powerful threats called smart *** show how asynchronous networks are vulnerable to smart spoofing *** the estimation scheme considered in this paper,information flows from the sets of source nodes,which can detect a portion of the state variables each,to the other follower *** regular nodes,to avoid being misguided by the threats,distributively filter the extreme values received from the nodes in their *** conditions based on strong robustness are proposed to guarantee the *** simulation scenarios are provided to verify the results.

Anterior lamellar recession for management of upper eyelid cicatricial entropion and associated eyelid abnormalities

AIM：To evaluate the functional and aesthetic outcomes of upper eyelid cicatricial entropion（UCE） correction using anterior lamellar recession（ALR） with addressing the associated conditions including dermatochalasis,brow ptosis,blepharoptosis,and lid ***：Chart review of patients with upper lid cicatricial entropion who had undergone ALR from 2013 to 2016 was *** was defi ned as the lack of any lash in contact with the globe,no need for a second procedure,and acceptable cosmesis at the fi nal follow ***：Sixty eight patients（97 eyelids） were operated by ALR with simultaneous correction of associated lid problems in each case when *** mean followup time was 17.8 mo（range,6.0-24.0 mo）.Concomitantly,levator tucking was performed in 19 eyelids（19.6%）,upper lid retractor recession in 18 eyelids（18.6%）,and internal browpexy in 31 eyelids（32.0%）.In 95.8% of patients（95%CI：0.85-0.96）,satisfactory functional and cosmetic outcome was achieved with a single surgical ***：Based on the principles of lamellar recession and concurrently addressing the associated lid problems,this approach is an effective and safe treatment of UCE.

Nucleic Acid Metabolism, Proline Concentration and Antioxidants Enzyme Activity in Canola (Brassica nupus L.) Under Salinity Stress

Seedling of five canola genotypes, Hyola 308, Hyola 401, Hyola 60, Option 50 and RGS003, were grown in Hoagland nutrient solution containing S1 = 0, S2 = 100, S3 = 200 and S4 = 300 mmol L-1 NaCl in controlled environment. Proline, antioxidant activities like catalase （CAT）, ascobrate peroxidase （APX） and guaiacol peroxidase （GPX） and some enzyme activities of nucleic acid metabolism were determined in shoot and root 20 days after induction of salinity stress. Results showed application of stress significantly affected plant growth components such as fresh （FW） and dry weight （DW） of canola genotypes. Among the genotypes, RGS003 had the highest reduction of FW and DW in S3 treatment. By increasing NaCl levels from 0 to 300 mmol L-1, the activity of two antioxidant enzymes （APX and CAT） in shoot and root increased but GPX in all of genotypes decreased. The increase in salinity stress, increased proline concentration in both root and shoot tissues of canola genotypes. Hyola 401 genotype had the maximum concentration of proline in root and shoot in S3 treatment. Along with increased salinity stress in all of the studied plants, salinity significantly increased the level of the total nucleic acid and the activity of DNase I in all of salinity treatments and at the S3 level, RGS003 had the maximum concentration of nucleolytic enzyme.

Characteristics Study on Bi-Pb Based Alloys Quenched from Melt

Three different bismuth-lead systems namely, Wood＇s alloy （Bi50Pb25Sn12.5Cd12.5）, Newton＇s alloy （Bi50Pb31.2Sn18.8） and Rose＇s alloy （B50Pb28Sn22）, with one used as fusible alloys were quenched from melt by melt spinning technique. Thermal analysis, structure and mechanical properties of all alloys have been studied and analyzed. From X-ray diffraction analysis, an intermetallic compound phase, designated Pb7Bi3 is detected. The formation of an intermetallic compound phase causes a pronounced increase in the electrical resistivity. The Wood＇s alloy containing-cadmium exhibits mechanical properties superior to both the Newton＇s and Rose＇s alloys. The presence of cadmium in Wood＇s alloy decreases its melting point. Wood＇s alloy has better properties, which make it useful in various applications such as in protection shields for radiotherapy, locking of mechanical devices and welding at low temperature.

Internal fixator vs external fixator in the management of unstable pelvic ring injuries:A prospective comparative cohort study

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of the pelvic ring anatomy in unstable anterior pelvic ring injuries is a significant step to reduce the mortality rate associated with these injuries *** is a debate on using either an anterior subcutaneous pelvis internal fixator(INFIX)or an anterior supra-acetabular external fixator(EXFIX)to manage an unstable anterior pelvic ring *** To compare the functional and radiological outcomes and complications of INFIX vs EXFIX in managing unstable pelvic ring *** A prospective cohort study included 54 patients with unstable pelvic ring *** patients were divided into two groups;the INFIX group,in which 30 cases were fixed by INFIX,and the EXFIX group,in which 24 patients were treated by *** average age in the EXFIX group was 31.17 years(16-57 years),while in the INFIX group,it was 34.5 years(17-53 years).The study included 20(66.7%)males and 10(33.3%)females in the INFIX group and 10(41.7%)males and 14(58.3%)females in the EXFIX *** radiological outcomes were evaluated using Matta and Tornetta's score,and the functional outcomes using the Majeed *** The results revealed a statistically significant difference between both groups(P=0.013)regarding radiological outcomes,according to Matta and Tornetta's score in favor of the INFIX ***,standing,and walking abilities were measured at a 3-mo follow-up visit using Majeed score *** was significantly better among the INFIX group than the EXFIX group in all three *** the final follow-up,both groups had no statistically significant difference according to the Majeed score;92.35 in the INFIX group and 90.99 in the EXFIX group(P=0.513).A lower surgical site infection rate was noticed in the INFIX group(P=0.007).CONCLUSION Anterior subcutaneous pelvis INFIX is associated with better radiological outcomes and a lower infection rate than anterior supra-acetabular EXFIX in managing patients with unstable anterior pelvic
