Introduction: Cra.iopla.ty is the surgica. repa.r of a.bony defect or deformity in the skull tha. is ca.sed a.ter cra.ia. surgery or tra.ma. It ca.ries cosmetic a.d protective benefits. Ma.y types of ma.eria.s a.e a.lowed. The subject of this study is to compa.e the outcome of two different ma.ufa.turing processes in reconstruction of ca.va.ia. skull defects by using 3D custom-ma.e cra.ioprostheses versus ha.d-ma.e bone cement impla.ts. Pa.ient a.d Methods: This is a.prospective compa.a.ive study conducted on 20 pa.ients of ca.va.ia. skull defects of different etiologies, sites a.d sizes, a.mitted in the neurosurgica. depa.tments of Ca.ro a.d Fa.oum Universities in the period from a.gust 2017 to Februa.y 2018. Pa.ients a.e divided into two study groups: (group 1) 10 pa.ients opera.ed upon by 3D custom-ma.e impla.t;(group 2) opera.ed upon by ha.d-ma.e bone cement impla.t. Sta.istica. a.a.ysis Used: Ma.n-Whitney test a.d Chi-squa.e test. Results: Cra.iotomy using 3D custom-ma.e impla.ts gives better results tha. using bone cement in the functiona. restora.ion of skull sha.e a.d cra.ia. protection with shorter opera.ive time a.d less ra.e of postopera.ive complica.ions. There is no sta.istica.ly significa.t difference between the two study groups rega.ding cosmetic outcome. Conclusion: 3D custom-ma.e impla.t is recommended for la.ge a.d complex skull defects. Further a.d la.ge studies might be needed.

Ba.kground: Multiple level a.terior cervica. discectomy a.d fusion (a.DF) is indica.ed for those who suffer from multilevel stenosis or compression of the spina. ca.a.. It wa. reported tha. this intervention would unfortuna.ely lea. to a.loss of norma. cervica. ra.ge of motion (CROM). a.though, fewer studies ha.e demonstra.ed the exa.t impa.t of the procedure on CROM. In our study, short a.d midterm postopera.ive CROM wa. described. Methods: Ninety pa.ients who underwent a.DF were followed up postopera.ively for a. lea.t 3 months. a.tive CROM wa. mea.ured in a.l pa.ients preopera.ively a.d in postopera.ive follow-ups by cervica. spine X-ra.s in la.era. dyna.ic view using Cobb’s a.gle method. Results: Unfortuna.ely, postopera.ive CROM wa. significa.tly diminished. a. the short-term (3 months) follow-up there wa. a.grea. limita.ion in CROM. While a. obvious increa.e in CROM a. the midterm (6 months) follow-up wa. observed in flexion especia.ly. The reduction in globa. ROM (ca.cula.ed a. preopera.ive globa. ROM – 6 months postopera.ive ROM) wa. 4.1 a.d the reduction ra.e (ca.cula.ed a. reduction ROM divided by preopera.ive ROM) wa. 9.5%. The recovery ROM (ca.cula.ed a. 6 months postopera.ive ROM – 1 month postopera.ive ROM) wa. 8.2. The recovery ra.e (ca.cula.ed a. recovery ROM divided by 1 month postopera.ive ROM) wa. 26.5%. Conclusion: a.tive CROM following multiple level a.DF wa. obviously diminished. The most a.fected motion a.ter surgery wa. flexion. It wa. noticed tha. a. the short-term follow-up CROM would be more limited while a.ter further follow up CROM wa. obviously improved even in neck flexion motion.
