Mechanical properties of TiO_2-hydroxyapatite nanostructured coatings on Ti-6Al-4V substrates by APS method

TiO2-hydroxyapatite （HA） nanostructured coatings were produced by atmospheric plasma spray method. The effects of starting powder composition and grain size on their mechanical properties were investigated. The microstructure and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. It is found that the coating with 10% HA has the best mechanical properties. Based on Rietveld refinement method, the mean grain size of the as-received powder （212 nm） extensively decreases to 66.4 nm after 20 h of high-energy ball milling. In spite of grain growth, the deposited coatings maintain their nanostructures with the mean grain size of 112 nm. SEM images show that there is a lower porosity in the coating with a higher HA content. Optical microscopy images show that uniform thickness is obtained for all the coatings.

Ride and handling are two paramount factors in design and development of vehicle suspension systems. Conflicting trends in ride and handling characteristics propel engineers toward employing multi-objective optimization methods capable of providing the best trade-off designs compromising both criteria simultaneously. Although many studies have been performed on multi-objective optimization of vehicle suspension system, only a few of them have used probabilistic approaches considering effects of uncertainties in the design. However, it has been proved that optimum point obtained from deterministic optimization without taking into account the effects of uncertainties may lead to high-risk points instead of optimum ones. In this work, reliability-based robust multi-objective optimization of a 5 degree of freedom （5-DOF） vehicle suspension system is performed using method of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II （NSGA-II） in conjunction with Monte Carlo simulation （MCS） to obtain best designs considering both comfort and handling. Road profile is modeled as a random function using power spectral density （PSD） which is in better accordance with reality. To accommodate the robust approach, the variance of all objective functions is also considered to be minimized. Also, to take into account the reliability criterion, a reliability-based constraint is considered in the optimization. A deterministic optimization has also been performed to compare the results with probabilistic study and some other deterministic studies in the literature. In addition, sensitivity analysis has been performed to reveal the effects of different design variables on objective functions. To introduce the best trade-off points from the obtained Pareto fronts, TOPSIS method has been employed. Results show that optimum design point obtained from probabilistic optimization in this work provides better performance while demonstrating very good reliability and robustness. Due to soaring fuel prices and environmental concerns, hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) technology attracts more attentions in last decade. Energy management system, configuration of HEV and traffic conditions are the main factors which affect HEV's fuel consumption, emission and performance. Therefore, optimal management of the energy components is a key element for the success of a HEV. An optimal energy management system is developed for HEV based on genetic algorithm. Then, different powertrain system component combinations effects are investigated in various driving cycles. HEV simulation results are compared for default rule-based, fuzzy and GA-fuzzy controllers by using ADVISOR. The results indicate the effectiveness of proposed optimal controller over real world driving cycles. Also, an optimal powertrain configuration to improve fuel consumption and emission efficiency is proposed for each driving condition. Finally, the effects of batteries in initial state of charge and hybridization factor are investigated on HEV performance to evaluate fuel consumption and emissions. Fuel consumption average reduction of about 14% is obtained for optimal configuration data in contrast to default configuration. Also results indicate that proposed controller has reduced emission of about 10% in various traffic conditions.

The electrical characteristics of a double-gate armchair silicene nanoribbon field-effect-transistor （DG ASiNR FET） are thoroughly investigated by using a ballistic quantum transport model based on non-equilibrium Green＇s function （NEGF） approach self-consistently coupled with a three-dimensional （3D） Poisson equation. We evaluate the influence of variation in uniaxial tensile strain, ribbon temperature and oxide thickness on the on-off current ratio, subthreshold swing, transconductance and the delay time of a 12-nm-length ultranarrow ASiNR FET. A novel two-parameter strain mag- nitude and temperature-dependent model is presented for designing an optimized device possessing balanced amelioration of all the electrical parameters. We demonstrate that employing HfO2 as the gate insulator can be a favorable choice and simultaneous use of it with proper combination of temperature and strain magnitude can achieve better device performance. Furthermore, a general model power （GMP） is derived which explicitly provides the electron effective mass as a function of the bandgap of a hydrogen passivated ASiNR under strain.

In this study, Al matrix composites reinforced by 7.5 and 15 vol.% B4C particles and also monolithic Al （Al without the B4C particles） were produced by wet attrition milling and subsequent hot forward extrusion processes. The microstructure of the composites, evaluated by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, showed that the B4C particles were properly distributed in the Al matrix. Mechanical properties of the Al/B4C composites and monolithic Al were investigated by tensile, wear and hardness tests, The results revealed that with increasing content of B4C particles, the tensile strength and microhardness of composites increased but the elongation decreased. In addition, the tensile strength and microhardness of composite samples were higher than those of monolithic Al. The density measurements revealed that the density of composites decreased with increasing content of the B4C particles.

The potential of copper recovery from flotation tailings was experimentally investigated using a laboratory-mixing tank. The experiments were performed with solid weight percentages of 30 wt%, 35 wt%, 40 wt% and 45 wt% in water. The measurements revealed that adding sulfuric acid all at once to the tank rapidly increased the efficiency of the leaching process, which was attributed to the rapid change in the acid concentration. The rate of iron dissolution from tailings was less than when the acid was added gradually. The sample with 40 wt% solid is recommended as an appropriate feed for the recovery of copper. The adaptive neural fuzzy system(ANFIS) was also used to predict the copper recovery from flotation tailings. The back-propagation algorithm and least squares method were applied for the training of ANFIS. The validation data was also applied to evaluate the performance of these models. Simulation results revealed that the testing results from these models were in good agreement with the experimental data.

A quantitative structure-property relationship （QSPR） study was suggested for the prediction of λ-max of azo dyes. After optimization of 3D geometry of structures, different descriptors were calculated by the HyperChem and Dragon softwares. A major problem of QSPR is the high dimensionality of the descriptor space; therefore, descriptor selection is the most important step for these studies. In this paper, an ant colony optimization （ACO） algorithm was proposed to select the best descriptors.

Some types of software systems,like event‐based and non‐deterministic ones,are usually specified as rules so that we can analyse the system behaviour by drawing inferences from firing the ***,when the fuzzy rules are used for the specification of non‐deterministic behaviour and they contain a large number of variables,they constitute a complex form that is difficult to understand and infer.A solution is to visualise the system specification with the capability of automatic rule *** this study,by representing a high‐level system specification,the authors visualise rule representation and firing using fuzzy coloured Petri‐***,several fuzzy Petri‐nets‐based methods have been presented,but they either do not support a large number of rules and variables or do not consider significant cases like(a)the weight of the premise's propositions in the occurrence of the rule conclusion,(b)the weight of conclusion's proposition,(c)threshold values for premise and conclusion's propositions of the rule,and(d)the certainty factor(CF)for the rule or the conclusion's *** considering cases(a)-(d),a wider variety of fuzzy rules are *** authors applied their model to the analysis of attacks against a part of a real secure water treatment *** another real experiment,the authors applied the model to the two scenarios from their previous work and analysed the results.

Preparation and Characterization of DGEBA/EPN Epoxy Blends with Improved Fracture Toughness

The physical and mechanical properties of blends composed of two kinds of epoxy resins of different numbers of functional groups and chemical structure were studied. One of the resins was a bifunctional epoxy resin based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and the other resin was a multifunctional epoxy novolac resin. Attempt was made to establish a correlation between the structure and the final properties of cured epoxy samples. The blend samples containing high fraction of multifunctional epoxy resin showed higher solvent resistance and lower flexural modulus compared with the blends containing high fraction of bifunctional epoxy resin. The epoxy blends showed significantly higher ductility under bending test than the neat epoxy samples. The compressive modulus and strength increased with increasing of multifunctional epoxy in the samples, probably due to enhanced cross-link density and molecular weight. Morphological analysis revealed the presence of inhomogeneous sub-micrometer structures in all samples. The epoxy blends exhibited significantly higher fracture toughness（by 23% at most） compared with the neat samples. The improvement of the fracture toughness was attributed to the stick-slip mechanism for crack growth and activation of shear yielding and plastic deformation around the crack growth trajectories for samples with higher content of bifunctional epoxy resin as evidenced by fractography study.
