Objective:To investigate the relationship between triterpenoid saponin content and antioxidant,antimicrobial,and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of 70%ethanolic,butanolic,aqueous,supernate and precipitate extracts of Juglans regia ***:Triterpenoid saponins of different Juglans regia leaf extracts were measured by the vanillin *** activity was evaluated against DPPh and ABTS free *** also assessed α-glucosidase inhibitory and antimicrobial activities of the leaf ***’s correlation coefficient was evaluated to determine the correlation between the saponin content and biological ***:The butanolic extract was most effective against DPPh with an IC50of 6.63μg/mL,while the aqueous extract showed the highest scavenging activity against ABTS free radical with an IC50of 42.27μg/***’s correlation analysis indicated a strong negative correlation (r=-0.956) between DPPh radical scavenging activity (IC50) and the saponin content in the samples *** addition,the aqueous extract showed the best α-glucosidase inhibitory activity compared with other *** the extracts had fair antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis,Escherichia coli,and Klebsiella pneumoniae except for the aqueous ***:Juglans regia extracts show potent antioxidant,antimicrobial,and α-glucosidase inhibitory *** is a correlation between saponin levels in Juglans regia leaf extracts and the studied ***,additional research is required to establish these relationships by identifying the specific saponin molecules responsible for these activities and elucidating their mechanisms of action.

Compartment syndrome is a rare complication of total knee replacement(TKR) surgery that needs prompt diagnosis and treatment as it may be associated with high morbidity and mortality. We have found very few reports in the literature describing compartment syndrome after TKRs and therefore, present a relevant case which occurred in the immediate postoperative phase and was treated with fasciotomy and subsequent operations to close the soft tissue defects.

Surgical outcomes of complicated cataract with pediatric trematode granulomatous uveitis

AIM:To describe the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes of complicated cataract with pediatric trematodal granulomatous uveitis(TGU).METhODS:Patients of cataract with TGU in the membranous(inactive) stage underwent cataract surgery with intraocular lens(IOL) *** history and ophthalmic examination were conducted for all cases,whereas Schimphlug imaging and corneal topography were done for some *** follow up was done on the 1st,2nd,and 5th postoperative days after ***,it was done at least at one,three,and six months *** and postoperative complications and the methods of their management were ***:Twelve eyes of 12 male children were included in this study ranging from 8 to *** mean best corrected Snellen visual acuity(BCVA) was significantly improved from 0.09±0.06 preoperatively to 0.37±0.11 at the final visit 6mo postoperatively(Phimphlug imaging and corneal topography showed flattening of the anterior surface of the inferior *** difficulties and complications included the poor dilatability of the drown down pupil,strong posterior synechia between the anterior lens capsule and the iris at the site of the inferior retrocorneal vascularized membrane and *** cases underwent primary hydrophobic IOL ***:Surgery for this type of cataract is relatively safe and *** is associated with some specific difficulties and complications that should be considered during surgery and follow up.

Microwave Assisted Liberation of high Phosphorus Oolitic Iron Ore

The influence of microwave treatment on the liberation of iron ore from the high phosphorus oolitic iron ore from Aswan region, Egypt was studied. The effect of microwave power, exposure time and grain size on the liberation of iron ore was investigated. The microfractures and cracks of the samples were characterized before and after microwave treatments. The heating rate of high phosphorus oolitic iron ore was studied. Crystallinity of hematite was characterized before and after microwave pretreatment. The results indicated that intergranular fractures formed between the gangues (fluorapatite and chamosite) and hematite after microwave treatment, leading to improved liberation of iron ore and a significant reduction in comminution energy. Percentages of fraction ≤ -0.125 mm increased from 46.6% to 59.76% with increased exposure time from 0 to 60 seconds. The heating rate of iron ore showed that microwave treatment was less efficient at smaller particle sizes for a fixed applied power density. Crystallinity of hematite increased with the microwave exposure time.

Assessment of Sleep Pattern in Egyptian elderly with Vascular Dementia

Study Objectives: Growing evidence suggests that sleep disturbances is common in vascular dementia (VaD). The goal of the current study is to assess the disturbance in sleep pattern in patients with VaD, and compare it to healthy normally cognitive elderly individuals. We next studied whether there are meaningful differences in the Subjective sleep assessment: Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and sleep measurements by polysomnography (PSG) in VaD patients. Study design: Case control study. Subject and methods: Overnight PSG recordings and self-reported sleep measures were obtained from 20 healthy elderly subjects and 20 VaD patients at the sleep laboratory. Results: This study showed abnormal subjective sleep quality in all patients and revealed that the most common sleep complaints among VaD patients were: excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), sleep disordered breathing (SDB), insomnia, restless leg syndrome (RLS), periodic limb movements (PLMS) and REM behavioral disordered (RBD) respectively. Moreover, patients spent more time in stage I sleep, but less time in slow wave sleep (SWS) and REM sleep compared to control populations, with delayed REML and less 1st REML. Also, increased sleep fragmentation;wakefulness after sleep onset (WASO) & sleep fragmentation index (SfI), increased arousal index (AI) & PLMS index were detected in VaD patients. finally, VaD patients had significant high Apnea, hypopnea and Respiratory Distress Index (RDI) score with high average SpO2 Desaturation. Conclusions: Sleep is significantly impaired in patients with VaD at both the objective and subjective level, which may be used as a diagnostic marker of VaD. SDB is a common feature of VaD and leads to fragmented sleep, increased nocturnal confusion, and excessive daytime sleepiness. A New Thioamide Derivative for Separation and Preconcentration of Multi elements in Aquatic Environment by Cloud Point Extraction

2-(pyridine-2-yl)-N-p-chlorohydrazinecarbothioamide (hCPTS) was synthesized, characterized and successfully applied for the preconcentration of Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Pb(II), fe(II), and hg(II) in water, blood, and urine samples prior to graphite furnace atomic absorption determination (GfAAS);hg was determined by cold vapor technique. Under the optimum experimental conditions (i.e. ph = 8, 10–4 M of hCPTS, 0.05% w/v of Triton X-114), calibration graphs were linear in the range of 0.02 to 200 ng?mL–1 for Co(II), Cd(II), Pb(II) and Ni(II);0.03 to 200 ng?mL–1 for Cu(II);0.07 to 200 ng?mL–1 for fe(II) and Zn(II) and 0.02 to 150 ng?mL–1 for hg(II). The enrichment factors were 43, 51, 41, 46, 54, 40, 45 and 52 for Cu(II), Ni(II),Zn (II), Cd(II), Co(II), Pb(II), fe(II), and hg(II), respectively. The limit of detection were found to be 0.019, 0.094, 0.0514, 0.052, 0.0165, 0.047, 0.068 and 0.041 ng?mL–1 for Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Pb(II), fe(II), and hg(II), respectively. The developed method was applied to the determination of these metal ions in water, blood and urine samples with satisfactory results.

Risk factors and prognosis of pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in Egypt:a university hospital based study

AIM:To study and compare the predisposing factors and clinical features of pediatric,adult,and elderly rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD).METhODS:This is an observational analytic crosssectional study in which patients with RRD admitted for surgery during 6mo period were divided into 3 age groups:pediatric(elderly(>60y).Patients’demographic data,clinical features,RRD predisposing factors/features including myopia(axial length≥26.5 mm),aphakia/pseudophakia,blunt trauma,peripheral retinal degenerations,history of RRD in the fellow eye,and surgical interventions/findings were recorded and ***:Totally 142 patients(142 eyes)were studied:26(18.31%)pediatrics,86(60.56%)adults,and 30(21.13%)*** patients had a significantly higher intraocular pressures and cataracts compared to the other 2 groups(P=0.04).The RRD extent was larger in pediatric group(mostly 4 quadrants)compared to adults and elderly(mostly 2 quadrants),but it was not statistically insignificant(P=0.242).There were not statistically significantly differences in proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR)rate,posterior vitreous detachment(PVD)rate,number,site,shape,and size of breaks in three *** three groups had macular detachment in all *** and peripheral retinal degenerations were found to be more significant in adults(P=0.049,P=0.035,respectively),while blunt trauma was higher but insignificant in pediatric eyes(P=0.052).Pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)with silicone oil as a tamponade was the most used surgery in all ***:There are no significant difference in PVR rate in pediatric eyes but a significant higher rate of total *** trauma is more frequent in pediatrics eyes while myopia and/or peripheral retinal degenerations are more frequent in older *** rate of PPV as a choice for surgery is similar among all age groups.
