Objectives:To detail the US multi-institutional experience with the Occlutech©(Occlutech International AB,Helsingborg,Sweden)atrial flow regulator(AFR)in children and adults with acquired or congenital heart disease.Background:The creation of a long-term atrial communication is desirable in several cardiovascular disease phenotypes,most notably pulmonary arterial hypertension,disorders of increased left ventricular filling and increased cavopulmonary pressures in patients with a Fontan type circulation.Methods:Patients were identified for inclusion from the AFR device manufacturer database.Data was collected using a RedCap database following IRB approval.8 weeks of follow up data was sought for each patient based on available data.Data was analyzed and summarized using SPSS.Results:We report the experience of 6 US centers in the implantation of AFR devices in 15 patients,across a wide age range,with different disease phenotypes and a variety of indications.Implantation was technically successful in all patients and improvement was noted in both clinical and hemodynamic parameters.There were no immediate or intermediate term complications reported.3 patients died remote from implantation.Their deaths were not felt to be related to the AFR device or related procedural complications.Conclusion:Compassionate use of the AFR device in children and adults with congenital&acquired heart disease is technically feasible and produces beneficial short term hemodynamic and symptomatic improvement.Widespread uptake of this technique and treatment at specialist centers has the potential to provide significant benefits to a variety of complex patients with currently limited treatment options and indeterminate prognosis.

The interview was conducted on March 2nd, 2023 by Ioannis Solos and Charles Buck. William morris has sustained practice since 1980. He has served on the California, Texas and Massachusetts Professional Associations, as well as the National Association. He has tendered 20 years of service to the field through academic medicine, earning a master’s degree in medical education to assist in developing Chinese medical doctoral programs and institutional review boards. He earned an OM.D. in 1988, a DAOM in 2002, and a Ph.D. focused on pulse diagnosis as clinical epistemology in 2009. He has published five books, including TCM Case Studies Dermatology, Li Shi-zhen Pulse Studies: An Illustrated Guide, Neoclassical Pulse Diagnosis, Cycles in Medical Astrology, and Transformation: Treating Trauma with Acupuncture and Herbs.

Fabrication of sub-20 nm MoS_(2) horizontal nanowire on silicon substrates by inclusion of precursors into polystyrene-bpolyethylene oxide nanopatterns: Detailed structural investigation

Herein,we demonstrate the fabrication of sub-20 nm MoS_(2) horizontal nanowire arrays on silicon substrates using a self-assembled block copolymer assisted in situ inclusion approach.Microphase separated long-range ordered polystyrene-b-polyethylene oxide(PS-b-PEO)block copolymer(BCP)line-space nanopatterns were achieved through thermo-solvent annealing.The patterns produced had long-range order and domain sizes>1μm.The BCP structures were lightly etched and modified by anhydrous ethanol to facilitate insertion of molybdenum precursor within the film maintaining the parent BCP arrangements.Horizontal ordered molybdenum oxide nanowire arrays were then fabricated by ultraviolet(UV)/ozone treatment at room temperature.The oxides were converted to sulphides by thermal evaporation at different temperatures in Ar/H_(2) environment.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed the composition and phases of the molybdenum oxide and sulphide nanowires.Elemental mapping was performed to investigate the interfaces between the oxide and sulphide nanowires with the substrate surface.The formation and stability of the sulphide nanowires were studied at different temperatures.The photoluminescence and Raman properties were studied at different formation temperatures to investigate defects and estimate the number of layers.

Titanium(Ti)alloys are widely used in high-tech fields like aerospace and biomedical engineering.Laser additive manufacturing(LAM),as an innovative technology,is the key driver for the development of Ti alloys.Despite the significant advancements in LAM of Ti alloys,there remain challenges that need further research and development efforts.To recap the potential of LAM high-performance Ti alloy,this article systematically reviews LAM Ti alloys with up-to-date information on process,materials,and properties.Several feasible solutions to advance LAM Ti alloys are reviewed,including intelligent process parameters optimization,LAM process innovation with auxiliary fields and novel Ti alloys customization for LAM.The auxiliary energy fields(e.***.thermal,acoustic,mechanical deformation and magnetic fields)can affect the melt pool dynamics and solidification behaviour during LAM of Ti alloys,altering microstructures and mechanical performances.Different kinds of novel Ti alloys customized for LAM,like peritecticα-Ti,eutectoid(α+β)-Ti,hybrid(α+β)-Ti,isomorphousβ-Ti and eutecticβ-Ti alloys are reviewed in detail.Furthermore,machine learning in accelerating the LAM process optimization and new materials development is also outlooked.This review summarizes the material properties and performance envelops and benchmarks the research achievements in LAM of Ti alloys.In addition,the perspectives and further trends in LAM of Ti alloys are also highlighted.

Many biological structures such as nerves,blood and lymphatic vessels,and muscle fibres exhibit longitudinal ge-ometries with distinct cell types extending along both the length and width of internal linear axes.Modelling these three-dimensional structures in vitro is challenging:the best-defined stem-cell differentiation systems are mono-layer cultures or organoids using pluripotent stem cells.Pluripotent stem cells can differentiate into functionally mature cells depending on the signals received,holding great promise for regenerative medicine.However,the integration of in vitro differentiated cell types into diseased tissue remains a challenge.Engineered scaffolds can bridge this gap if the appropriate signalling systems are incorporated into the scaffold.Here,we have taken a biomimicry approach to generate longitudinal structures in vitro.In this approach,mouse embryonic stem cells are directed to differentiate to specific cell types on the surface of polycaprolactone(PCL)fibres treated by plasma-immersion ion implantation and to which with lineage-specifying molecules have been covalently im-mobilised.We demonstrate the simplicity and utility of our method for efficiently generating high yields of the following cell types from these pluripotent stem cells:neurons,vascular endothelial cells,osteoclasts,adipocytes,and cells of the erythroid,myeloid,and lymphoid lineages.Strategically arranged plasma-treated scaffolds with differentiated cell types could ultimately serve as a means for the repair or treatment of diseased or damaged tissue.

Recent cross-disciplinary work on quantifying historical dynamics has made major contributions to scholarship.However,efforts to specify relationships between scale and information-processing always run a risk of shoehorning messy realities into overly rigid categories.In the case of the first-millennium BCE“Axial Age”in the Old World,networks of collective computing were structured more by cultural systems than by polities,and to understand the relationships between political scale and collective computational abilities,scholars need categories flexible enough to clarify the complementarities between political and cultural systems.
