Effects of tropical forest conversion into oil palm plantations on nitrous oxide emissions:A meta-analysis

Oil palm plantations have dramatically expanded in tropical Asia over the past *** their establishment has been projected to increase nitrous oxide(n_(2)O)emissions,earlier reports have shown inconsistent *** study analyzed these previously published data to compare n_(2)O emissions in oil palm plantations to reference forests.A linear mixed-eff ects model was used to examine the signifi cance of the eff ect of establishing oil palm plantations on n_(2)O emissions,rather than to calculate mean eff ect sizes because of limitations in the data *** results indicated that n_(2)O emissions were signifi cantly greater from oil palm plantations than from reference forests,as *** is the fi rst study to report the eff ect of oil palm plantations on n_(2)O emissions by synthesizing previously published *** quantify the size of this eff ect,additional studies with frequent and long-term monitoring data are needed.

The development of reliable catalysts with both excellent activity and recyclability for carbon dioxide(CO_(2))hydrogenation is ***,a ternary hybrid heterogeneous catalyst,involving mononuclear Ru complex,n,P-containing porous organic polymers(POPs),and mesoporous hollow carbon spheres(Ru^(3+)-POPs@MHCS)is reported for CO_(2)hydrogenation to *** on comprehensive structural analyses,we demonstrated that Ru^(3+)-POPs were successfully immobilized within *** optimized Ru^(3+)-0.5POPs@MHCS catalyst,which was obtained with about 5 wt.%Ru^(3+)and 0.5 mmol POPs polymers confined into 0.3 g MHCS,exhibited high catalytic activity for CO_(2)hydrogenation to formate(turnover number(TOn)>1,200 for 24 h under mild reaction conditions(4.0 MPa,120℃))and improved durability,compared to Ru^(3+)catalysts without POPs polymers(Ru^(3+)-MHCS)and unencapsulated MHCS(Ru^(3+)-0.5POPs)*** improved catalytic performance is attributed to the high surface area and large pore volume of MHCS which favors dispersion and stabilization of Ru^(3+)-***,the MHCS and POPs showed high CO_(2)adsorption ***^(3+)-POPs encapsulated into MHCS reduces the activation energy barrier for CO_(2)hydrogenation to formate.

Defoliation affects the root competitive balance for n between Poa annua plants grown in a split‐root box

Recent reports warned that planting leguminous trees under monocultures elevates nitrous oxide(n2O)emissions through n-rich litter *** hypothesized that planting trees on sandy soil can avoid the legume-derived boost of n2O emissions through limiting water availability for n2O *** of planting legumes on methane(CH4)uptakes were also examined.n2O emissions and CH4uptakes were compared among five tropical tree plantation stands including three leguminous stands(Acacia auriculiformis,Acacia mangium,and Xylia xylocarpa)and two non-leguminous stands(Eucalyptus camaldulensis,and Hope a odorata).Due to lower water contents of the soil,the n2O fluxes in our study site were at the lower end of the tropical rain *** we hypothesized,no clear differences in n2O emissions were obs erved between leguminous and non-leguminous ***4uptake rates in the present study were lower than those of other tropical ***4uptakes in leguminous stands did not differ from those in non-leguminous ***,we demonstrated that planting leguminous trees on sandy soils has a potential to enable us to manage leguminous monoculture tree plantations without boosting n2O emissions or reducing CH4uptakes.

The global "myopia boom" has raised significant international concerns. Despite a higher myopia prevalence in Asia, previous large-scale genome-wide association studies(GWASs) were mostly based on European descendants. Here, we report a GWAS of spherical equivalent(SE) in 1852 Chinese Han individuals with extreme SE from Guangzhou(631 nd 574 > 0.00 D) and Wenzhou(593 nd54 >-1.75 D), followed by a replication study in two independent cohorts with totaling 3538 East Asian individuals. The discovery GWAS and meta-analysis identify three novel loci, which show genome-wide significant associations with SE, including 1 q25.2 FAM163 A, 10 p11.22 nRP1/PRAD3, and 10 p11.21 AnKRD30 A/MTRnR2 L7, together explaining 3.34% of SE variance. 10 p11.21 is successfully *** allele frequencies of all three loci show significant differences between major continental groups(P ng(more myopic) allele of rs10913877(1 q25.2 FAM163 A) demonstrates the highest frequency in East Asians and much lower frequencies in Europeans and Africans(EAS = 0.60,EUR = 0.20, and AFR = 0.18). The gene-based analysis additionally identifies three novel genes associated with SE, including EI24, LHX5, and ARPP19. These results provide new insights into myopia pathogenesis and indicate the role of genetic heterogeneity in myopia epidemiology among different ethnicities.
