Kraft lignin(KL)is a promising additive for obtaining multifunctional biodegradable ***,the hydrophobic properties of lignin hinder its dispersion in hydrophilic *** prior alkaline solubilization of lignin before adding it to the filmogenic dispersion could be an alternative to overcome this *** this sense,this study aimed to produce whey protein isolate(WPI)multifunctional films incorporated with different concentrations of KL,ranging from 0%to 8%,previously solubilized in alkaline solution,and characterize them in terms of morphological,molecular,mechanical,optical,hydrophobicity,thermal,sealability,antioxidant,and UV-blocking *** prior solubilization of KL allowed the obtainment of homogeneous films of a dark color with greater resistance to fracture,higher hydrophobicity,higher glass transition temperature than the control film,and a slightly greater thermal stability:the initial and maximum degradation temperature of 166.1℃and 305.3℃,*** presence in the matrix also gave the films functionalities compared to the control:the films added with 2%of KL blocked 95%of UVA and 100%UVB radiation without impairing the passage of visible light,and the films with 8%of KL showed 34.69%of antioxidant activity in DPPH ***,the films were not heat sealable,which was an undesirable ***,lignin solubilization in alkali proved to be an efficient methodology for producing multifunctional WPI films,with potential appli-cation on foods susceptible to oxidation.

Effects of tropical forest conversion into oil palm plantations on nitrous oxide emissions:A meta-analysis

Oil palm plantations have dramatically expanded in tropical Asia over the past *** their establishment has been projected to increase nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)emissions,earlier reports have shown inconsistent *** study analyzed these previously published data to compare N_(2)O emissions in oil palm plantations to reference forests.A linear mixed-eff ects model was used to examine the signifi cance of the eff ect of establishing oil palm plantations on N_(2)O emissions,rather than to calculate mean eff ect sizes because of limitations in the data *** results indicated that N_(2)O emissions were signifi cantly greater from oil palm plantations than from reference forests,as *** is the fi rst study to report the eff ect of oil palm plantations on N_(2)O emissions by synthesizing previously published *** quantify the size of this eff ect,additional studies with frequent and long-term monitoring data are needed.

dear Editor,We read with great interest the article by Tan et ***“Accelerated fracture healing by osteogenic Ti45Nb implants through the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway”[1].This research thoroughly examines the bone-forming capabilities of the Ti45Nb *** in vitro studies revealed that the Ti45Nb alloy enhances the osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells more effectively than Ti6Al4V alloy controls,showing no noticeable cytotoxic effects.

A new complex plant for carbonization and composting of municipal wastes

A new complex plant for carbonization and composting of municipal wastes proposed for Gero City is introduced. The separated combustible waste and non-separated combustible waste are carbonized in two fluidized carbonization furnaces in the plant, and the coke produced is used in steelworks. The separated garbage and forest-wastes are mixed with dried septic-tank sludge to produce high quality compost for farms. This use of waste materials in the complex plant considerably lowers the amount of waste going to land-fills, and in addition, creates lower total emission of dioxins and carbon dioxide into the environment.

Gas-solid flows are ubiquitous in industrial *** coupled model of the discrete element method(deM)and computational fluid dynamics(CfD)is one of the techniques for the simulation of the gas-solid *** enhance the applicability of the deM-CfD method,the coarse graining deM has been developed to simulate large-scale powder *** coarse graining deM is a scaling law model and hence can simulate large-scale systems using a smaller number of particles than the actual *** the coarse graining deM enables to effectively simulate large-scale powder systems on a single PC,visualized image is lack of reality due to reduced spatial *** a novel visualization method is developed to produce realistic *** the proposed technique,the virtual particles are located by considering the motion and location of the coarse grain *** show the adequacy of the proposed method,two types of visualization based on the computational results are made:a blow-up of powder due to injected gas flow and a spouted *** these systems,the visualized images are shown to be improved by the proposed visualization *** effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by the agreement of the images based on the calculation results between the standard deM-CfD method and coarse graining deM.

Machine-learning assisted design principle search for singlet fission:an example study of cibalackrot

This work uses quantum chemistry calculations and machine learning to explore design rules for singlet fission in a chemical space of four million indigoid *** identify~400,000 derivatives of 2,2′-diethenyl cibalackrot,which theoretically fulfil the energy conditions for exoergic singlet fission above the silicon band gap *** this database with a random forest classifier,we observe that small substituents with positive mesomeric effects and weak negative inductive effects reinforce the desired energetic conditions when placed at specific ***,a subset of molecules that reflects the random forest classifier’s rules are investigated for their quantum chemical properties to translate the desirable structural motifs into wavefunction-based design ***,direct correlations between the energetic condition for singlet fission,the biradical character and the charge and triplet spin density in prominent molecular regions are identified,providing insights that may serve as a guide for singlet fission core structure development.

Removing fences from sweep motion videos using global 3D reconstruction and fence-aware light field rendering

Diminishing the appearance of a fence in an image is a challenging research area due to the characteristics of fences(thinness, lack of texture, etc.) and the need for occluded background restoration. In this paper, we describe a fence removal method for an image sequence captured by a user making a sweep motion, in which occluded background is potentially observed. To make use of geometric and appearance information such as consecutive images, we use two well-known approaches: structure from motion and light field rendering. Results using real image sequences show that our method can stably segment fences and preserve background details for various fence and background combinations. A new video without the fence, with frame coherence, can be successfully provided.

Acute Restraint Stress Augments 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine Neurotoxicity via Increased Toxin Uptake into the Brain in C57BL/6 Mice

As an environmental risk factor, psychological stress may trigger the onset or accelerate the progression of Parkinson＇s disease （PD）. Here, we evaluated the effects of acute restraint stress on striatal dopaminergic terminals and the brain metabolism of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahy- dropyridine （MPTP）, which has been widely used for creating a mouse model of PD. Exposure to 2 h of restraint stress immediately after injection of a low dose of MPTP caused a severe loss of striatal dopaminergic terminals as indicated by decreases in the dopamine transporter protein and dopamine levels compared with MPTP administration alone. Both striatal 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium ion （MPP＋） and MPTP concentrations were significantly increased by the application of restraint stress. Striatal monoamine oxidase-B, which catalyzes the oxidation of MPTP to MPP＋, was not changed by the restraint stress. Our results indicate that the enhanced striatal dopaminergic terminal loss in the stressed mice is associated with an increase in the transport of neurotoxin into the brain.

Catalytic Conversion of Methanol by Oxidative dehydrogenation

This study investigates the effects of addition of oxygen on the oxidative dehydrogenation （ODH） of methanol when a fluorotetrasilicic mica ion-exchanged with palladium （Pd2^＋-TSM） was used as the catalyst. The reaction proceeded at a very low temperature in the presence of oxygen, and HCOOCH3 was obtained at high selectivity. By calculating the equilibrium conversion, it has been shown that substantial ODH took place for HCOOCH3 production. Consequently, this reaction would make dehydrogenation the dominant reaction at equilibrium. Not all the H dissociated from CH3OH was converted to H20 by oxidation. It has been shown that the H2O was not produced from oxidative dehydrogenation by the direct reaction of CH3OH and O2 when an attempt was made to carry out oxidative dehydrogenation using an isotope oxygen trace method in the gas phase. Therefore, when CHaOH was converted to CO2 and dehydrogenated to HCOOCH3, the C-O bonds were not dissociated.
