The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary soluble non-starch polysaccharide(sNSP)content and xylanase supplementation on production performance,egg quality parameters,and nutrient di-gestibility in Hy-line Brown layers from 25 to 32 wk of age.A total of 144 Hy-line Brown laying hens(25 wk of age)were randomly allocated to 1 of 4 wheat-based dietary treatments in a 2×2 factorial experimental design,with 36 replicates of individual hens per *** diets were formulated to contain either a high or low sNSP level(at 13.3 or 10.8 g/kg)and were supplemented with either 0 or 12,000 BXU/kg exogenous *** were fed these treatment diets for an 8-wk period,and hen production perfor-mance,including daily egg production,average egg weight,daily egg mass,feed conversion ratio and pro-portion of dirty and abnormal eggs were measured at bird age 25 to 28 wk and 29 to 32 *** interaction between sNSP content of the diet and xylanase supplementation was observed on daily egg production from 25 to 28 wk of age(P-0.018);birds fed the high sNSP diet without xylanase had lower egg production than those fed any other *** interaction between the 2 dietary factors was also observed on hen weight gain at 29 to 32 wk of age(P=0.014),with birds fed the low sNSP diet with 12,000 BXU/kg xylanase presenting greater weight gain compared to those fed the high sNSP diet with 12,000 BXU/kg *** intake at 29 to 32 wk of age was reduced by xylanase supplementation(P=0.047).Xylanase supplemen-tation also increased yolk colour score at both 28 and 32 wk of age,and decreased yolk weight at 32 wk of age(P-0.014,0.037 and 0.013,respectively).Birds fed the low sNSP diet presented lower protein digestibility(P-0.024)than those fed the high sNSP ***,birds fed high sNSP presented higher shell reflectivity at both 28 and 32 wk of age(P-0.05 and 0.036,respectively).The influence of duration of feeding the treatment diets on egg quality was also

Insufficient supply, high prices and competition with the human food and biofuel industries means there is a continuous demand for alternative energy sources for poultry. As a result, cassava is becoming an increasingly important ingredient in poultry diets, largely due to its high availability. Efficient use of cassava products has been shown to reduce feed costs of poultry production. The utilisation of cassava is,however, limited by a number of factors, including its high fibre and low energy content and the presence of anti-nutritional factors, primarily hydrocyanic acid(HCN). With correct processing the inclusion level of cassava in poultry diets could be increased. Extensive research has been conducted on cassava products for poultry, but there is still a lack of consistency amongst the measured nutritive values for cassava and its products, hence variation exists in results from poultry studies. This paper reviews the nutrient composition of cassava products and its value as an alternative energy source in poultry diets.

We present a rare case of a 45-year-old woman who presented with epigastric pain associated with early satiety and weight loss. Imaging revealed a large intraabdominal mass in the epigastrium. Despite intensive investigations, including ultrasound scanning, computed tomography, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and percutaneous biopsy, a diagnosis could not be obtained. A histological diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma arising from the gastro-splenic ligament was confirmed after laparoscopic excision and histological examination of the intra-abdominal epigastric mass.

The discovery of Asgard archaea and the exploration of their diversity over the last 6 years have deeply impacted the scientific community working on eukaryogenesis,rejuvenating an intense debate on the topology of the universal tree of life(uTol).Here,we discuss how this debate is impacted by two recent publications that expand the number of Asgard lineages and eukaryotic signature proteins(ESPs).We discuss some of the main difficulties that can impair the phylogenetic reconstructions of the uTol and suggest that the debate about its topology is not *** notably hypothesize the existence of horizontal gene transfers between ancestral Asgards and proto-eukaryotes that could result in the observed abnormal behaviors of some Asgard ESPs and universal marker *** hypothesis is relevant regardless of the scenario considered regarding *** implies that the Asgards were already diversified before the last eukaryotic common ancestor and shared the same biotopes with *** suggest that some Asgards might be still living in symbiosis today with modern Eukarya.

Osteoblasts are derived from mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs）, which initiate and regulate bone formation. New strategies for osteoporosis treatments have aimed to control the fate of MSCs. While functional disuse decreases MSC growth and osteogenic potentials, mechanical signals enhance MSC quantity and bias their differentiation toward osteoblastogenesis. Through a non-invasive dynamic hydraulic stimulation （DHS）, we have found that DHS can mitigate trabecular bone loss in a functional disuse model via rat hindlimb suspension （HLS）. To further elucidate the downstream cellular effect of DHS and its potential mechanism underlying the bone quality enhancement, a longitudinal in vivo study was designed to evaluate the MSC populations in response to DHS over 3, 7, 14, and 21 days. Five-month old female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups for each time point： age-matched control, HLS, and HLS＋DHS. DHS was delivered to the right mid-tibiae with a daily ＂10 min on-5 min off-10 min on＂ loading regime for five days/week. At each sacrifice time point, bone marrow MSCs of the stimulated and control tibiae were isolated through specific cell surface markers and quantified by flow cytometry analysis. A strong time-dependent manner of bone marrow MSC induction was observed in response to DHS, which peaked on day 14. After 21 days, this effect of DHS was diminished. This study indicates that the MSC pool is positively influenced by the mechanical signals driven by DHS. Coinciding with our previous findings of mitigation of disuse bone loss, DHS induced changes in MSC number may bias the differentiation of the MSC population towards osteoblastogenesis, thereby promoting bone formation under disuse conditions. This study provides insights into the mechanism of time-sensitive MSC induction in response to mechanical loading, and for the optimal design of osteovorosis treatments.
