Calibration after bootstrap for accurate uncertainty quantification in regression models

Obtaining accurate estimates of machine learning model uncertainties on newly predicted data is essential for understanding the accuracy of the model and whether its predictions can be trusted.A common approach to such uncertainty quantification is to estimate the variance from an ensemble of models,which are often generated by the generally applicable bootstrap *** this work,we demonstrate that the direct bootstrap ensemble standard deviation is not an accurate estimate of uncertainty but that it can be simply calibrated to dramatically improve its *** demonstrate the effectiveness of this calibration method for both synthetic data and numerous physical datasets from the field of Materials Science and *** approach is motivated by applications in physical and biological science but is quite general and should be applicable for uncertainty quantification in a wide range of machine learning regression models.

Systematic Review of Graphical Visual Methods in Honeypot Attack Data Analysis

Mitigating increasing cyberattack incidents may require strategies such as reinforcing organizations’ networks with Honeypots and effectively analyzing attack traffic for detection of zero-day attacks and vulnerabilities. To effectively detect and mitigate cyberattacks, both computerized and visual analyses are typically required. However, most security analysts are not adequately trained in visualization principles and/or methods, which is required for effective visual perception of useful attack information hidden in attack data. Additionally, Honeypot has proven useful in cyberattack research, but no studies have comprehensively investigated visualization practices in the field. In this paper, we reviewed visualization practices and methods commonly used in the discovery and communication of attack patterns based on Honeypot network traffic data. Using the PRISMA methodology, we identified and screened 218 papers and evaluated only 37 papers having a high impact. Most Honeypot papers conducted summary statistics of Honeypot data based on static data metrics such as IP address, port, and packet size. They visually analyzed Honeypot attack data using simple graphical methods (such as line, bar, and pie charts) that tend to hide useful attack information. Furthermore, only a few papers conducted extended attack analysis, and commonly visualized attack data using scatter and linear plots. Papers rarely included simple yet sophisticated graphical methods, such as box plots and histograms, which allow for critical evaluation of analysis results. While a significant number of automated visualization tools have incorporated visualization standards by default, the construction of effective and expressive graphical methods for easy pattern discovery and explainable insights still requires applied knowledge and skill of visualization principles and tools, and occasionally, an interdisciplinary collaboration with peers. Low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy for Peyronie’s disease:a single-center experience

The aim of this article is to assess the outcomes of a low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy(LiESWT)protocol for the treatment of Peyronie’s disease(PD).Patients treated for PD were prospectively recorded,and data were retrospectively ***,characteristics of fibrous plaques,concomitant treatments,International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5),Lue score,and pain score on Likert scale were *** in acute phase of PD and an angulation of<40°were *** protocol consisted of 6 weekly sessions of 4000 pulses each,applied from different directions,with a maximal power of 20 W and 8 Hz *** included 39 patients(median age:56.8 years,interquartile range[IQR]:35.8–62.2 years).The median number of sessions received per patient was *** treatment,the median Lue score decreased from 6.8 initially to 3.3(P=0.003),the median Likert pain score dropped from 1.8 to 0.7(P=0.004),the median plaque size was reduced from 2 cm to 1.2 cm(P=0.08),and the median penile curvature diminished from 31°to 17°(P=0.07).On univariate and multivariate analysis,the only predictors of success were younger age(odds ratio[OR]=0.95,P=0.03 and OR=0.91,P=0.04,respectively)and concomitant use of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors(PDE5i;OR=0.92,P=0.02 and OR=0.93,P=0.01,respectively).LiESWT had a favorable impact on Lue score and notably penile pain,curvature,plaque size,and erectile function in patients treated for PD during the early inflammatory phase,with no side *** age and concomitant use of PDE5i were the only success predictors.

Meta-Review of Recent and Landmark Honeypot Research and Surveys

The growing interest in Honeypots has resulted in increased research, and consequently, a large number of research surveys and/or reviews. Most Honeypot surveys and/or reviews focus on specific and narrow Honeypot research areas. This study aims at exploring and presenting advances and trends in Honeypot’s research and development areas. To this end, a systematic methodology and meta-review analysis were applied to the selection, evaluation, and qualitative examination of the most influential Honeypot surveys and/or reviews available in scientific bibliographic databases. A total of 188 papers have been evaluated and 22 research papers are found by this study to have a higher impact. The findings of the study suggest that the Honeypot survey and/or review papers of considerable relevance to the research community were mostly published in 2018, by IEEE, in conferences organized in India, and included in the IEEE Xplore database. Also, there have been few qualities Honeypot surveys and/or reviews published after 2018. Furthermore, the study identified 10 classes of vital and emerging themes and/or key topics in Honeypot research. This work contributes to research efforts employing established systematic review and reporting methods in Honeypot research. We have included our meta-review methodology, in order to allow further work in this area aiming at a better understanding of the progression of Honeypot research and advances.

Protease supplementation reduced the heat increment of feed and improved energy and nitrogen partitioning in broilers fed maize-based diets with supplemental phytase and xylanase

Luminescence of Er^(3+) in Oxyfluoride Transparent Glass-Ceramics

Erbium doped silicate, germanate, and tellurium-germanate oxyfluoride glasses were prepared in a bulk form. Through appropriate heat treatment of the as-prepared glasses, transparent glass-ceramics （TGCs） were obtained with the formation of β-PbF2：Er^3＋ nanocrystals in the glass matrix were confirmed by X-ray ***-defined diffraction peaks were observed in the samples after heat-treatment. The average crystal diameter of these precipitated crystals from full-width at half-maximum （FWHM） of the diffraction peak was estimated to be between 8 and 13 nm. Optical absorption, photoluminescence, and upconversion luminescence were measured on as-prepared glass and glass-ceramics. Luminescence spectra in the TGC samples revealed well-resolved, sharp stark-splitting peaks, which indicates that a majority of Er^3＋ ions has been incorporated into the crystalline phase of the nanocrystals. The intensity of the visible and near infrared luminescence mostly increases in TSG compared to that in the as-prepared glass. In 1.53 μm absorption and emission bands, the maximum absorption peak is blue-shifted from 1531 to 1507 nm, whereas the maximum emission peak is redshifted from 1535 to 1543 nm in TGC, as compared with that in glass. The bandwidth at half-maximum （BWHM） of the emission band is significantly broader in TGC than in glass, which is beneficial to the erbium-doped fiber amplifier （EDFA）. Upconversion luminescence was measured using 800 nm near-infrared light excitation. Drastically increased upconversion 1 was observed from the TGC as compared to that from their corresponding as-prepared glasses. In addition to a strong green emission centered at 545 nm because of ^4S3/2→^4I15/2 transition and a weaker red emission centered at 662 nm because of ^4F9/2→^4I15/2 transition, generally seen from the Er^3＋ doped glasses, two violet emissions centered at 410 nm because of ^2H9/2→^4I15/2 transition and centered at 379 nm because of ^4G11/2→^4I15/2 transition were also o

Pre-treatment platelet counts as a prognostic and predictive factor in stage Ⅱ and Ⅲ rectal adenocarcinoma

AIM To investigate if pre-treatment platelet counts could provide prognostic information in patients with rectal adenocarcinoma that received neo-adjuvant treatment. METHODS Platelet number on diagnosis of stage II and III rectal cancer was evaluated in 51 patients receiving neoadjuvant treatment and for whom there were complete follow-up data on progression and survival, as well as pathologic outcome at the time of surgery. Pathologic responses on the surgical specimen of patients with lower platelet counts(150-300 × 10~9/L) were compared with these of patients with higher platelet counts(> 300 × 10~9/L) by the χ~2 test. Overall and progression free survival Kaplan-Meier curves of the two groups were constructed and compared with the Log-Rank *** A significant difference was present between the two groups in regards to pathologic response with patients with lower platelet counts being more likely to exhibit a good or complete response to neo-adjuvant treatment than patients with higher platelet counts(P = 0.015). Among other factors evaluated, there was also a significant difference between the carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) at presentation of patients that exhibited a good or complete response and those that had no response or a minimal to moderate response. Patients with a good or complete response were more likely to present with a CEA of less than 5 μg/L(P = 0.00066). There was no significant difference in overall and progression free survival between the two platelet count groups(Log-Rank tests P = 0.42 and P = 0.35, respectively).CONCLUSION In this retrospective analysis of stage II and III rectal cancer patients, platelet counts at the time of diagnosis had prognostic value for neo-adjuvant treatment pathologic response. Pre-treatment CEA also held prognostic value in regards to treatment effect.
