Hydrographical parameters and phytoplankton assemblages along the Pondicherry—Nagapattinam coastal waters,southeast coast of India

Hydrographical parameters and phytoplankton assemblages were determined along the Pondicherry, Parangipettai and Nagapattinam coastal waters, southeast coast of India. All the hydrographical parameters such as sea surface temperature, salinity, p H, total alkalinity, dissolved oxygen and nutrients like nitrate, nitrite, inorganic phosphate and reactive silicate, chlorophyll a and phytoplankton assemblages were studied for a period of five months(May, August, September 2010, March and November 2011). Over 121 species of phytoplankton represented by 93 species of diatoms, 16 species of dinoflagellates, 9 species of blue-green algae, 2 species of greens and 1 species of silicoflagellate were recorded. High phytoplankton species diversity was found in March 2011 when salinity and nitrate concentrations were low and reactive silicate and inorganic phosphates were moderate. Species diversity was low during May 2010 when increased sea surface temperature, salinity and low nutrients availability were observed. Coscinodiscus centralis, Diatoma vulgaris and Proboscia alata were dominant, especially Coscinodiscus sp. distributed in all stations whereas Skeletonema costatum, Odontella sinensis and Ditylum brightwellii were abundant in August and September 2010. From principal component analysis and multiple regression analysis, it is evident that variables like sea surface temperature and dissolved oxygen are the most important factors influencing the seasonal pattern of phytoplankton population.

Textile reinforced mortar is widely used as an overlay for the repair,rehabilitation,and retrofitting of concrete ***,textile reinforced concrete has been identified as a suitable lining material for improving the durability of existing concrete *** this study,we developed a textile-reinforced mortar mix using river sand and evaluated the different characteristics of the textile-reinforced mortar under various exposure *** were carried out in two *** the first phase,the pullout strength,temperature resistance,water absorption,and compressive and bending strength values of three different textile-reinforced mortar mixes with a single type of textile reinforcement were *** the second phase,the chemical resistance of the mix that showed the best performance in the abovementioned tests was examined for use as an overlay for a concrete *** were performed on three different thicknesses of the textile reinforced mortar overlaid on concrete specimens that were subjected to acidic and alkaline *** flexural responses and degradations of the textile reinforced mortar overlaid specimens were examined by performing bending *** experimental findings indicated the feasibility of using textile reinforced mortar as an overlay for durable concrete construction practices.

Stationary Analysis and Optimal Control Under Multiple Working Vacation Policy in a GI/Ma,b/1 Queue

This paper considers an infinite buffer renewal input queue with multiple working vacation policy wherein customers are served by a single server according to general bulk service （a,b）-rule （1 ≤ a ≤ b）. If the number of waiting customers in the system at a service completion epoch （during a normal busy period） is lower than ＇a＇, then the server starts a vacation. During a vacation if the number of waiting customers reaches the minimum threshold size ＇a＇, then the server starts serving this batch with a lower rate than that of the normal busy period. After completion of a batch service during working vacation, if the server finds less than takes another vacation, otherwise the server rate. The maximum allowed size of a batch a＇ customers accumulated in the system, then the server continues to serve the available batch with that lower in service is ＇b＇. The authors derive both queue-length and system-length distributions at pre-arrival epoch using both embedded Markov chain approach and the roots method. The arbitrary epoch probabilities are obtained using the classical argument based on renewal theory. Several performance measures like average queue and system-length, mean waiting-time, cost and profit optimization are studied and numerically computed.

Beneficial synergetic effect of feedstock characteristics and reaction conditions on bio crude production from hydrothermal liquefaction of mixed residential waste

Hydrothermal liquefaction(HTL)is a promising method for sustainable waste management and renewable energy production,converting mixed feedstocks into bio-crude,a precursor to various biofuels.A study focused on mixed residential waste(MRW)as an HTL feedstock investigated temperature ranges(280e360℃)and residence times(30e90 min),achieving a maximum bio-crude yield of 39.16%at 340℃and 75 ***,a thorough investigation of the synergistic relationships between all subcomponents of the MRW feedstock was conducted and concluded that the mixed waste(MW)feedstock samples containing a higher proportion of food and plastic wastes and MRW sample presented with a coliquefaction percentage(CE)of around 60%and 107%respectively for production of bio ***,solvents such as ethanol,glycerol and aqueous phase(AQ)were tested for their potential as hydrothermal mediums and found that bio crude yield of 46.19%was obtained in case of AQ phase ***,the quantitative and qualitative effect of usage of four different catalysts were tested individually and in combination with AQ phase recirculation and found that,although individually nanoporous ZnO and diatomaceous earth(DE)yielded bio crude in the range of 46.86%and 42.68%respectively,when used in combination,DE cateHTL with AQ resulted in maximum bio crude yield of 54.35%.Furthermore,qualitatively,the bio crude from DE cateHTL with AQ presented with a high carbon and energy recovery percentage of 62.20%and 72.95%respectively and a high hydrocarbon content of 58.98%.

Magnetohydrodynamic stagnation-point flow of Sisko nanofluid over a stretching sheet with suction

A numerical investigation is presented to show the effects of thermo-diffusion on the hydromagnetic stagnation-point flow of Sisko nanofluid over a linearly stretching sheet by considering viscous dissipation and Joule heating with suction/injection.A suitable set of similarity transformations is considered in order to convert the basic partial differential equations into a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential *** efficient numerical method along with shooting technique is involved in older to solve the reduced governing basic *** influences of several emerging physical parameters of Sisko nanofluid on the profiles of velocity,temperature,solutal concentration,nanoparticle volume fraction,skin-friction coefficient,Nusselt number,and Sherwood number have been studied and analyzed in detail through graphs and *** is found that the skin friction coefficient decays more rapidly against the material parameter of Sisko ***,it is noticed that the Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameter have the reverse effects on Sisko nanofluid Sherwood num*** is analyzed that the Nusselt number decreases with an increase in the values of thermophoresis *** motion parameter,and Eckert number,while its value increases with material parameter and Dufour solutal Lewis *** is observed that the Sherwood number has ascending behavior for thermophoresis *** motion parameters,whereas nanofluid Sherwood number gets amplified with a hike in the nano Lewis number parameter for all the values of Brownian motion parameter.

A new design of 3D-printed orthopedic bone plates with auxeticstructures to mitigate stress shielding and improve intra-operative bending

Orthopedic bone plates are most commonly used for bone fracture fixation for more than 100 *** bone plate design had evolved over time overcoming many challenges such as insufficient strength and excessive plate–bone contact affecting the blood ***,it is only made of two materials,either stainless steel(AISI 316L)or titanium(Ti–6Al–4V).There are two main limitations of metallic bone implants,namely stress shielding and the problem of malocclusion caused by the displacement of the fracture site during *** overcome the two problems,a new bone plate design with the incorporation of auxetic structures is proposed in this *** study aims to use auxetic structure section in the bone plate that would decrease the stiffness of the region,thereby mitigating the stress-shielding effect and at the same time act as a deformable section to enable intra-operative bending for effective alignment while having enough bending strength and *** different auxetic structures namely re-entrant honeycomb and missing rib structures were *** auxetic structure incorporated bone plates were designed,finite element analysis was done,fabricated using direct metal laser sintering technique,and *** results indicate that the re-entrant honeycomb structure incorporated bone plates serve as an effective bone design compared to the conventional bone plate design,in terms of stress shielding and intra-operative bending while offering similar mechanical and bending strength.

Low Velocity Impact Response and Failure Assessment of Textile Reinforced Concrete Slabs

Present paper proposes a methodology by combining finite element method with smoothed particle hydrodynamics to simulate the response of textile reinforced concrete(TRC)slabs under low velocity impact *** the constitutive modelling in the finite element method,the concrete damaged plasticity model was employed to the cementitious binder of TRC and Von-Mises criterion was used for the textile *** dependent smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH)was used to assess the damage and failure pattern of TRC *** simulation was carried out on TRC slabs with two different volume fraction of glass textile reinforcement to predict the energy absorption and damage by coupling finite element method with *** studies were also conducted for simulating the effect of number of textile layers in TRC under *** is concluded that the proposed methodology well predicts the damage in TRC slabs at various *** results were also analysed using two parameter Weibull distribution and the impact failure strength is presented in terms of reliability *** results indicated that the Weibull distribution allows describing the failure in terms of reliability and safety limits.

Production, purification, characterization, immobilization, and application of Serrapeptase： a review

BACKGROUND： Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme with many favorable biological properties like anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-bacterial, fibrinolytic properties and hence, is widely used in clinical practice for the treatment of many diseases. Although Serrapeptase is widely used, there are very few published papers and the information available about the enzyme is very meagre. Hence this review article compiles all the information about this important enzyme Serrapeptase. METHODS： A literature search against various databases and search engines like PubMed, SpringerLink, Scopus etc. was performed. RESULTS： We gathered and highlight all the published information regarding the molecular aspects, properties, sources, production, purification, detection, optimizing yield, immobilization, clinical studies, pharmacology, interaction studies, formulation, dosage and safety of the enzyme Serrapeptase. CONCLUSION： Serrapeptase is used in many clinical studies against various diseases for its anti-inflammatory, fibrinolytic and analgesic effects. There is insufficient data regarding the safety of the enzyme as a health supplement. Data about the anti- atherosclerotic activity, safety, tolerability, efficacy and mechanism of action of the Serrapeptase are still required.
