BACKGROUND Patients with combined hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma(cHCC-CC)are not traditionally considered eligible for liver transplantation(LT)AIM To compare outcomes between living donor LT(LDLT)patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and LT patients with cHCC-CC and to identify risk factors for tumor recurrence and death after LT in cHCC-CC *** Data for pathologically diagnosed cHCC-CC patients(n=111)who underwent LT from 2000 to 2018 were collected for a nine-center retrospective ***(n=141)who received LDLT for HCC at Samsung Medical Center from January 2013 to March 2017 were selected as the control *** patients in two groups,respectively,were selected by 1:1 *** Cumulative disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS)in the cHCC-CC group were significantly worse than in the HCC group both before and after *** recurrence incidence in the cHCC-CC group was higher than that in the HCC group(75.5%vs 33.3%,P3,tumor size>3 cm,and lymph node metastasis were predisposing factors for tumor recurrence in multivariate *** a maximum tumor size>3 cm was a predisposing factor for *** The poor prognosis of patients diagnosed with cHCC-CC after LT can be predicted based on the explanted *** regular surveillance for cHCC-CC patients should be required for early detection of tumor recurrence.

Changma is the most important supplier of water resource in Korea. however, its interannual variation may cause either floods or droughts time to time in many regions of Korea. A number of studies on Changma have been done in many subjects, such as the on-set and retreat timing, duration of Changma, and its interannual variation, which may cause either wet or dry Changma, and the heavy rainfall phenomena associated with the Changma front. Also, the subjects covered the dynamical situation of Changma compared to that of Baiu and Mei-yu as a part of East Asian monsoon circulation, and relation between Changma and tropical Pacific sea-surface temperature (SST) through atmosphere-ocean interaction, etc. A numerical study is presented in this paper to check the teleconnection between the behavior of Changma front and the variation of tropical Pacific SST. The difference in the lower level streamfunction between theEl Nio event of 1987 and the La Nia event of 1988 illustrates that the cross-equatorial and westerly wind crossing over the India and Indo-China peninsula were weak during the summer of 1988 compared to 1987. This may cause the drought of 1988 in East Asia by reducing moisture supply from the Indian Ocean and the south-western Pacific. Even though there are numerous research activities on the Changma, our knowledge on the Changma is still limited to explain the mechanism of interannual variation of Changma and to provide a proper prediction of precipitation due to both geographical location of Korea and its complex topography. In collaboration with the international field observational projects, such as GAME and SCSMEX, the Korea Monsoon Experiment (KORMEX) has been planned by several scientists in Korea to improve our knowledge on the atmospheric circulation and water cycle related to the East Asian monsoon and to provide necessary information to predict both short- and long-term variation of rainfall during the Changma season.

AIM: To present a simple colonoscopy reporting system that can be checked easily the detection rate of colon ***: A simple colonoscopy reporting system Kosin Gastroenterology(KG quality reporting system) was developed. The polyp detection rate(PDR),adenoma detection rate(ADR),serrated polyp detection rate(SDR),and advanced adenoma detection rate(AADR) are easily calculated to use this ***: In our gastroenterology center,the PDR,ADR,SDR,and AADR test results from each gastroenterologist were updated,every month. Between June 2014,when the program was started,and December 2014,the overall PDR and ADR in our center were 62.5% and 41.4%,respectively. And the overall SDR and AADR were 7.5% and 12.1%,***: We envision that KG quality reporting system can be applied to develop a comprehensive system to check colon polyp detection rates in other gastroenterology centers.

Polyurethane-based Actuators with Various Polyols

This study dealt with the electrostrictive responses of polyurethane （PU） actuators with different microphase separation structure, which was a promising candidate for a material used in polymer actuators. In order to construct PUs with different higher-order structure, PUs with various types of polyol were synthesized： poly（neopentyl glycol adipate）（PNAD）, poly（tetramethylene glycol）（PTMG）, and poly（dimethyl siloxnae）（PDMS）. Synthesized PU was characterized by Fourier transform-infrared （FT-IR） spectroscopy and gel per- meation chromatography （GPC）. Thermal analysis and mechanical properties of PU films were carried out with differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and UTM （universal testing machine）, respectively. And PU actuator was formed in a type of monomorph, which was made by carbon black electrodes on the both surfaces of PU film by spin coating method. Actuation behavior was mainly influenced on microphase separation struc- ture and mechanical property of PU. In result, PU actuator with PNAD, polyester urethane, had the largest field-induced displacement.

Effects of vagus nerve preservation and vagotomy on peptide YY and body weight after subtotal gastrectomy

AIM:To investigate the relationship between the function of vagus nerve and peptide YY 3-36 and ghrelin levels after subtotal ***:We enrolled a total of 16 patients who underwent subtotal gastrectomy due to gastric *** surgeries were performed by a single skilled *** measured peptide YY 3-36,ghrelin,leptin,insulin,growth hormone levels,and body weight immediately before and one month after ***:Vagus nerve preservation group showed less body weight loss and less increase of peptide YY 3-36 compared with vagotomy group(-5.56 ± 2.24 kg vs-7.85 ± 1.57 kg,P = 0.037 and 0.06 ± 0.08 ng/mL vs 0.19 ± 0.12 ng/mL,P = 0.021,respectively).Moreover,patients with body weight loss of less than 10% exhibited reduced elevation of peptide YY 3-36 level,typically less than 20% [6(66.7%) vs 0(0.0%),P = 0.011,odd ratio = 3.333,95% confidence interval(1.293,8.591)].CONCLUSION:Vagus nerve preservation contributes to the maintenance of body weight after gastrectomy,and this phenomenon may be related to the suppressed activity of peptide YY 3-36.

Clinical analysis of risk factors contributing to recurrence of pterygium after excision and graft surgery

AIM: To find the risk factors related to the reproliferation of the pterygial tissue after excision and graft ***: Charts of 130 eyes of 130 patients who had pterygial excision from March 2006 to April 2011 were reviewed. Preoperative pterygium morphology, surgical methods, and adjunctive treatments were statistically analyzed for their relationship with ***: During the follow-up period, recurrence was observed in 20 eyes(15.4%). None of the preoperative morphologic features were affected the rate of the recurrence. however, an age <40y [P =0.085, odds ratio(OR) 3.609, 95% confidence interval(CI) 0.838-15.540]and amniotic membrane graft instead of conjunctival autograft(P =0.002, OR 9.093, 95% CI 2.316-35.698) were statistically significant risk factors for *** analysis revealed that intraoperative mitomycin C(MMC)(P =0.072, OR 0.298, 95% CI 0.080-1.115)decreased the rate of recurrence. CONCLUSION: Younger age is a risk factor for reproliferation of pterygial tissue after excision and amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT) are less effective in preventing recurrence of pterygium after excision based on the comparison between conjunctival autograft and AMT. Intraoperative MMC application and conjunctival autograft reduce recurrence.

Polystyrene nanoparticles pose significant toxicological risks to aquatic ecosystems, yet their impact on zebrafish(Danio rerio) embryonic development, particularly erythropoiesis, remains underexplored. This study used single-cell RNA sequencing to comprehensively evaluate the effects of polystyrene nanoparticle exposure on erythropoiesis in zebrafish embryos. In vivo validation experiments corroborated the transcriptomic findings,revealing that polystyrene nanoparticle exposure disrupted erythrocyte differentiation, as evidenced by the decrease in mature erythrocytes and concomitant increase in immature erythrocytes. Additionally, impaired heme synthesis further contributed to the diminished erythrocyte *** findings underscore the toxic effects of polystyrene nanoparticles on hematopoietic processes, highlighting their potential to compromise organismal health in aquatic environments.
