Upper range limit establishment after wildfire of an obligateseeding montane forest tree fails to keep pace with 20th century warming

Aims How species respond to climate change at local scales will depend on how edaphic and biological characteristics interact with species physiological limits and traits such as *** seeders,those species that depend on fire for recruitment,have few and epi-sodic opportunities to track a changing climate *** such cases,long-distance seed dispersal will be necessary to take advan-tage of rare recruitment *** examine recruitment patterns and seedling growth below,at and above the timberline of an obligate-seeding Australian montane forest tree(Eucalyptus delegatensis)after stand-replacing fire,and place these changes in the context of regional *** We use two methods to detect whether *** can estab-lish and persist above the timberline after stand-replacing wildfire in montane forests in south-east ***,we examine estab-lishment patterns by using belt transects at six sites to quantify how changes in post-fire recruit density with increasing distance above the timberline seven years ***,to determine whether dispersal or physiological constraints determine post-fire establish-ment patterns,we transplanted seedlings and saplings into bare ground above(100 m elevation),at,and below(50 m elevation)timberline 18-months after *** monitored seedling growth and survival for one growing *** Findings There was minimal upslope migration of the species after fire with most saplings observed near seed-bearing timberline trees,with only occasional outpost *** seedlings and saplings sur-vived equally well across one growing season when planted above existing timberlines,relative to saplings at or below the *** and sapling growth rates also did not differ across these location,although seedlings grew at much faster rates than *** findings suggest that upslope growing season conditions are unlikely to limit initial range expansion of trees aft

FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab as a second-line therapy for metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

AIm:To evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab treatment outcome as second-line treatment for metastatic intrahepatic ***:Thirteen consecutive patients with metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma who were refractory tofirst-line therapy consisting of gemcitabine plus oxaliplatinbased first-line chemotherapy given intravenously via intra-arterial infusion were treated with FOLFIRI[irinotecan(180 mg/m2 *** 90 min)concurrently with folinic acid(400 mg/m2 *** 120 min)followed by fluorouracil(400 mg/m2 ***)then fluorouracil 2400 mg/m2 intravenous infusion over 46 h]and bevacizumab(5mg/kg)every 2 *** response was evaluated by computed tomography scan every 4 ***:The best tumor responses using response evaluation criteria in solid tumor criteria were:complete response for 1 patient,partial response for 4 patients,and stable disease for 6 patients after 6 mo of *** response rate was 38.4%(95%CI:12.5-89)and the disease control rate was 84.5%(95%CI:42-100).Seven deaths occurred at the time of analysis,progression free survival was 8 mo(95%CI:7-16),and median overall survival was 20 mo(95%CI:8-48).No grade 4toxic events were *** grade 3 hematological toxicities and one grade 3 digestive toxicity *** adaptive reduction in chemotherapy dosage was required in 2 patients due to hematological toxicity,and a delay in chemotherapy cycles was required for 3 ***:FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab combination treatment showed promising efficacy and safety as second-line treatment for metastatic intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma after failure of the first-line treatment of gemcitabine plus oxaliplatin chemotherapy.

Trends toward the globalization of the manufacturing industry and the increasing demands for small-batch,short-cycle,and highly customized products result in complexities and fluctuations in both external and internal manufacturing environments,which poses great challenges to manufacturing ***,recent advances in the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT)and the widespread use of embedded processors and sensors in factories enable collecting real-time manufacturing status data and building cyber–physical systems for smart,flexible,and resilient manufacturing *** this context,this paper investigates the mechanisms and methodology of self-organization and self-adaption to tackle exceptions and disturbances in discrete manufacturing ***,a general model of smart manufacturing complex networks is constructed using scale-free networks to interconnect heterogeneous manufacturing resources represented by network vertices at multiple ***,the capabilities of physical manufacturing resources are encapsulated into virtual manufacturing services using cloud technology,which can be added to or removed from the networks in a plug-and-play ***,information,and financial assets are passed through interactive links across the ***,analytical target cascading is used to formulate the processes of self-organizing optimal configuration and self-adaptive collaborative control for multilevel key manufacturing resources while particle swarm optimization is used to solve local problems on network ***,an industrial case based on a Chinese engine factory demonstrates the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed model and method in handling typical *** simulation results show that the proposed mechanism and method outperform the event-triggered rescheduling method,reducing manufacturing cost,manufacturing time,waiting time,and energy consumption,with reasonable computational time.T

Enhanced magnetostrictive properties of lightly Pr-doped Fe83Ga17 alloys

Fe83Ga17Prx alloys,where x=0,0.2,0.4,0.6 and 1.0,were prepared by a non-consumable vacuum arc melting technique under an inert argon gas *** crystal structure and surface morphologies of the alloys were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEm),*** compositional variations were measured by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDXS).The magnetostriction coefficients of the alloys were measured by means of a differential resistive strain *** magnetism of the sample was measured by a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSm).The results show that the parent Fe83Ga17 alloy consists of a single A2 phase of bcc symmetry,whereas the Pr doped Fe83Ga17 alloys are composed of the A2 phase of bcc structure and a small volume fraction of PrGa2 as a secondary *** importantly,with increasing x,the magnetostriction coefficient of the Fe83Ga17Prx alloys first increases reaching a maximum saturation magnetostriction coefficient of192 ppm for x=0.6 at a magnetic field strength of 486 kA/m,then *** maximum represents a 400% increase over the parent alloy with a mere 0.6 at% Pr doping.

NaI (Tl) calorimeter calibration and simulation for Coulomb sum rule experiment in Hall-A at Jefferson Lab

A precision measurment of inclusive electron scattering cross sections is carried out at Jefferson Lab in the quasi-elastic region for 4 He, 12 C, 56 Fe and 208 Pb targets. The longitudinal （R L ） and transverse （R T ） response functions of the nucleon need to be extracted precisely in the momentum transfer range 0.55 GeV/c≤ ｜ q ｜ ≤1.0 GeV/c. To achieve the above goal, a NaI （Tl） calorimeter is used to distinguish good electrons from background, including pions and low energy electrons rescattered from the walls of the spectrometer magnets. Due to a large set of kinematics and changes in HV settings, a number of calibrations are performed for the NaI （Tl） detector. Corrections for a few blocks of NaI （Tl） with bad or no signal are applied. The resolution of the NaI （Tl） detector after calibration reached δE/E^（1/2） ≈ 3% at E=1 GeV. The performance of the NaI （Tl） detector is compared with a simulation. The good calibration and background analysis for the NaI（Tl） detector are very important for the reduction of the systematic error of cross sections and the separation of R L and R T .

Symptoms of spinal dysfunction mimicking systemic diseases(Ogundana Syndrome):a review of 35 cases treated with manual therapy over 30 years

Objective and method:Symptoms manifesting in other parts of the body signaling the existence of spinal dysfunction(Ogundana Syndrome)in patients(N=35,age range 20-56yrs;mean age 36yrs)diagnosed to have systemic diseases but treated with manual therapy were identified after a 30 year case note ***:Incipient parkinsonism(general edema and expressionless mask face),stroke(weakness of one side of the body),tinnitus(headache with noise in one or both ears),breast cancer(breast pain)and dyspnea(difficulty in breathing)were some physician diagnoses and clinical symptoms *** percent rate occurrence was noted affecting significantly more females(74%)than males(26%,Pmily history of back pain(66%)engaged in low income occupations(farming 40%,trading 25%,artisans 15% and civil servants 20%).Symptoms got better after vertical oscillatory pressure therapy to appropriate spinal *** of treatment was influenced by duration of spinal dysfunction prior to therapy and age of younger ***:One percent of patients with spinal dysfunction misdiagnosed to have systemic diseases due to misleading symptoms are finally referred for physiotherapy of manifesting *** therapy to the appropriate vertebro-geographic region(s)relieves the symptom(s)without prejudice to existing diagnosis.

Optimising mesh size with escape gaps in a dual-species portunid-trap fishery

In south-eastern Australia,the same baited,round traps(comprising 50–57-mm mesh netting)are used to target giant mud,Scylla serrata and blue swimmer crabs,Portunus armatus in spatially separated *** fisheries are characterised by the common,problematic discarding of undersized portunids(mm carapace length;CL for *** and ***)and fish(yellowfin bream,Acanthopagrus australis).This poor selectivity was addressed here in two experiments assessing the utility of(1)traps partially or completely covered in larger mesh(91 mm to match the minimum legal size of the smaller ***),and then(2)any cumulative benefits of fitting species-specific escape *** experiment 1,there were no differences among catches of legal-sized portunids associated with either partial,or complete trap coverage with larger *** of mesh coverage,both designs of 91-mm traps also retained significantly fewer(by up to 42%)undersized *** and *** experiment 2,replicate traps completely covered in 91-mm mesh were tested against conventional traps comprising 56-mm mesh,and traps with the same mesh sizes,but also three escape gaps configured for either ***(46×120 mm)or ***(36×120 mm)(*** treatments in total).All modified traps maintained catches of legal-sized ***,and only the 91-mm traps with escape gaps caught fewer legal-sized *** undersized ***,*** and ***(mean catches reduced by up to 49%)were retained in all larger-meshed than small-meshed traps,and in all of those traps with escape gaps(by up to 95%)than *** there were no significant cumulative benefits of escape gaps in largermeshed traps(measured by a statistical interaction),there was a trend of fewer unwanted catches *** data support configuring portunid traps with mesh sizes matching the morphology of the smallest legal-sized target ***,simply retroactively fitting escape gaps in existing,smaller-m
