First report of a de novo germline mutation in the MLH1 gene

Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal carcinoma （HNPCC） is an autosomal dominant disorder associated with colorectal and endometrial cancer and a range of other tumor types. Germline mutations in the DNA mismatch repair （MMR） genes, particularly MLH1, MEH2, and MEH5, underlie this disorder. The vast majority of these HNPCC-associated mutations have been proven, or assumed, given the family history of cancer, to be transmitted through several generations. To the best of our knowledge, only a single case of a de novo germline MMR gene mutation （in MEH2） has been reported till now. Here, we report a patient with a de novo mutation in MLH1. We identified a MLH1 Q701X truncating mutation in the blood lymphocytes of a male who had been diagnosed with rectal cancer at the age of 35. His family history of cancer was negative for the first- and second-degree relatives. The mutation could not be detected in the patient＇s parents and sibling and paternity was confirmed with a set of highly polymorphic markers. Non-penetrance and small family size is the common explanation of verified negative family histories of cancer in patients with a germline MMR gene mutation. However, in addition to some cases explained by non-paternity, de novo germline mutations should be considered as a possible explanation as well. As guidelines that stress not to restrict MMR gene mutation testing to patients with a positive family history are more widely introduced, more cases of de novo MMR gene germline mutations may be revealed.

Forecasting river flow is crucial for optimal planning,management,and sustainability using freshwater *** machine learning(ML)approaches have been enhanced to improve streamflow *** techniques have been viewed as a viable method for enhancing the accuracy of univariate streamflow estimation when compared to standalone *** researchers have also emphasised using hybrid models to improve forecast ***,this paper conducts an updated literature review of applications of hybrid models in estimating streamflow over the last five years,summarising data preprocessing,univariate machine learning modelling strategy,advantages and disadvantages of standalone ML techniques,hybrid models,and performance *** study focuses on two types of hybrid models:parameter optimisation-based hybrid models(OBH)and hybridisation of parameter optimisation-based and preprocessing-based hybridmodels(HOPH).Overall,this research supports the idea thatmeta-heuristic approaches precisely improveML ***’s also one of the first efforts to comprehensively examine the efficiency of various meta-heuristic approaches(classified into four primary classes)hybridised with ML *** study revealed that previous research applied swarm,evolutionary,physics,and hybrid metaheuristics with 77%,61%,12%,and 12%,***,there is still room for improving OBH and HOPH models by examining different data pre-processing techniques and metaheuristic algorithms.

Energy Efficiency and Latency Analysis of Fog Networks

The industry of cellular networks is evaluating the new architectures to ensure an enhanced performance. Fog communication is the new paradigm that presented to unleash edge computing. In this paper, we introduced a mathematical framework to evaluate the trade-offs of Fog proposal. Specifically, testing the power consumption, delay and energy efficiency in comparison with traditional cloud radio access networks. Although the literature has showed that fog radio access networks provides an enhanced delay performance, this paper shows that an enlarged amount of power is consumed, which degrades the energy efficiency in comparison with traditional cloud counterpart. However, the level of such devolution depends on the number of deployed fog devices that directly influences the power consumption. This paper also shows that enhancing the delay by using fog architecture is not a straight forward process, but requires a particular caring in terms of choosing the appropriate mode while placing/installing fog functions within fog devices.

Preparation and Antibacterial Activity of Superhydrophobic Modified ZnO/PVC Nanocomposite

We fabricated a superhydrophobic modified ZnO/PVC nanocomposite cluster with antibacterial properties using the chemical precipitation method and selected solvent/non-solvent(THF/ethanol)to *** effects of ethanol content(47%,50%,53%,and 56%)on nanocomposite morphology and Water Contact Angles(WCAs)were *** measurements confirmed the polycrystalline structure of ZnO with a wurtzite hexagonal phase,and EDX results indicated the presence of all element *** analysis of specimens revealed a rough surface structure resembling a cluster of NPs,and that structure was dominant when the ethanol content increased to 56%.The WCA increased on the superhydrophobic nanocomposite as ethanol content increased,and an optimum WCA(160°±2°)was obtained at an ethanol content of 56%.Antibacterial activity was tested on the superhydrophobic and hydrophobic states,and the superhydrophobic specimens showed good inhibition against Klebsiella *** Staphylococcus ***,the hydrophobic specimens demonstrated no antibacterial activity against *** promising results can inform the development of nanocomposites for many environmental applications.

Big data analysis(BDA)can increase the capability of supply chain analysis of manufacturing ***,many manufacturing companies want to use BDA,but it has been seen that BDA implementation is difficult,especially in developing countries due to the existence of various barriers related to finance,government regulations,*** paper aims to investigate the barriers to BDA implementation in Iranian *** literature,limited work has been done on identifying barriers to implementing BDA in developing *** this regard,34 barriers were identified to BDA adoption in Iran by employing a literature review and feedback received from ***,the most important barriers(14)were analyzed using integrated Interpretive Structural Modeling and MICMAC *** show that two barriers;namely,lack of sufficient knowledge of senior managers and weakness of governance policies,are the most ***,crucial policy measures and recommendations are proposed to assist managers and government bodies.

Preparation and photocatalytic property of Fe_(2)O_(3)/ZnO composites with superhydrophobicity

A facile approach was developed to construct Fe_(2)O_(3)-modified ZnO micro/nanostructures with excellent superhydrophobicity and photocatalytic *** effects of stearic acid(SA)and Fe_(2)O_(3) on the morphological characteristics,water contact angle(WCA),and photocatalytic degradation were *** results showed that WCA increased from 144°±2°to 154°±2°when the weight of SA increased from 5 to 20 mg because of the formation of a hierarchical or rough ***,Fe_(2)O_(3)-modified ZnO micro/nanostructure surfaces before and after SA treatment(20 mg)were chosen to evaluate the photodegradation of methylene blue(MB)dye under the support of visible *** degraded after 80 min of irradiation,and its photodegradation efficiencies were 91.5%at the superhydrophobic state and 92%at the hydrophilic *** improvement in photocatalytic activity at both states might be attributed to an increase in surface area and improvement in charge carrier separation.

Optimal configuration problem identification of electrical power cable in tidal turbine farm via traveling salesman problem modeling approach

Electrical power cables in tidal turbine farms contribute a significant share to capital expenditure(CAPEX). As a result, the routing of electrical power cables connecting turbines to cable collector hubs must be designed so as to obtain the least cost *** is referred to as a tidal cable routing problem. This problem possesses several variants depending on the number of cable collector hubs. In this paper, these variants are modeled by employing the approach of the single depot multiple traveling salesman problem(mTSP) and the multiple depot mTSP of operational research for the single and multiple cable collector variants, respectively. The developed optimization models are computationally implemented using MATLAB. In the triple cable collector cable hub variant, an optimal solution is obtained, while good-quality suboptimal solutions are obtained in the double and single cable collector hub variants. In practice,multiple cable collector hubs are expected to be employed as the multiple-hub configurations tend to be more economic than the single-hub *** has been confirmed by this paper for an optimal tidal turbine layout obtained with OpenTidalFarm. Suggestions are presented for future research studies comprising a number of heuristics.

Date palm fiber(DPF)derived from agrowaste was utilized as a new precursor for the optimized synthesis of a costeffective,nanostructured,powderactivated carbon(nPAC)for aluminum(Al3+)removal from aqueous solutions using carbonization,KOH activation,response surface methodology(RSM)and central composite design(CCD).The optimum synthesis condition,activation temperature,time and impregnation ratio were found to be 650℃,1.09 hour and 1:1,***,the optimum conditions for removal were 99.5%and 9.958 mgg 1 in regard to uptake *** optimum conditions of nPAC was analyzed and characterized using XRD,FTIR,FESEM,BET,TGA and Zeta ***,the adsorption of the Al3+conditions was optimized with an integrated RSMCCD experimental *** results revealed that the adsorption kinetics data was well fitted by the pseudosecond order model,whereas the adsorption isotherm data was best represented by the Freundlich isotherm *** activated carbon indicated that DPF can serve as a costeffective precursor adsorbent for Al^(3+)removal.

In the absence of a central naming authority on the Semantic Web,it is common for different data sets to refer to the same thing by different *** multiple names are used to denote the same thing,owl:sameAs statements are needed in order to link the data and foster *** that date back as far as 2009,observed that the owl:sameAs property is sometimes used *** our previous work,we presented an identity graph containing over 500 million explicit and 35 billion implied owl:sameAs statements,and presented a scalable approach for automatically calculating an error degree for each identity *** this paper,we generate subgraphs of the overall identity graph that correspond to certain error *** show that even though the Semantic Web contains many erroneous owl:sameAs statements,it is still possible to use Semantic Web data while at the same time minimising the adverse effects of misusing owl:sameAs.

The Effects of Offset Loading Versus Traditional Loading in the Bench Press Exercise on Muscle Thickness and Strength in Trained Males

Purpose This study compared the effects of offset loading(OSL)versus traditional loading(TDL)in the bench press exercise on pectoral muscle thickness and bench press strength over a 4-week ***:Twenty male participants aged 18-45 years with at least 5 years of bench press experience and a bench press one-repetition maximum equal to or greater than their body mass were randomly assigned to OSL and TDL *** and after the 4-week mesocycle,pectoral muscle thickness was assessed via ultrasonography and muscle strength was assessed by bench press one-repetition *** were explored with two-way mixed ANOVA and non-clinical magnitude-based ***:No group-by-time interaction was detected for any variable(P>0.05).When compared to small magnitudes,the pectoralis major muscle thickness changes were likely greater in OSL compared to TDL for the dominant(ES=0.70;87%likely greater)and nondominant pectoralis(ES=0.77;91%likely greater)as well as the sum of both pectorals(ES=0.80;92%likely greater).Similarly,a likely greater effect for absolute(ES=0.57;82%likely)and relative(ES=0.67;85%likely)bench press strength was seen with ***:Magnitude-based inferences interpreted here support the notion that OSL may be an advantageous training modality to enhance pectoral muscle thickness and bench press strength.
