Chemical and Microbiological Parameters in Fresh Water and Sediments to Evaluate the Pollution Risk in the Reno River Watershed (North Italy)

The European Water Framework (WFD) establishes a framework for the protection and the monitoring condition of all natural superficial waters of the member States. The Italian Legislative Decree n. 156/2006 implements the WFD establishing a monitoring system which foresees a detailed detection of several physical, chemical and microbiological parameters in order to assess the qualitative status of the water body. This study reports the freshwater quality in the Reno river basin (North Italy) from 2003 to 2011. The Reno superficial water was classified as “good” in the mountain stations and at the closed basin while in all the other stations of the Po plain the quality was from “mediocre” to “poor”. The decrease of water quality was due to the flowing of artificial canals that collect discharges the wastewater of sewage treatment plants, drainage and run-off from the urban, industrial and agricultural lands. In spring-summer 2011, characterized by severe drought, a study on the distribution of pollutants and nutrients in water of the Renoriver and its tributaries highlight the impact of highway (Via Emilia) that closes the mountain basin of water courses. Along this street cities and industrial and craft have developed, increasing discharges of pollutants and nutrients in rivers. An increase of metals and nutrients was found from upstream to downstream, furthermore the concentration of the microbiological faecal indicators were two to three times higher than those determined in the water upstream of urban/industrial settlements. The thresholds of Italian Law for Hg and Pb were exceeding in all most rivers. The sediments analysis was also performed because they can be considered a sink and/or source for pollutants. In many monitoring sites the metals concentrations was higher than the thresholds of Italia Low (data not shown), but the availability of these metals was tested with mixtures of different strength extracting (EDTA, DTPA and water). Estimation of the behavior factor of existing RC-MRF buildings

In recent years, several research groups have studied a new generation of analysis methods for seismic response assessment of existing buildings. Nevertheless, many important developments are still needed in order to define more reliable and effective assessment procedures. Moreover, regarding existing buildings, it should be highlighted that due to the low knowledge level, the linear elastic analysis is the only analysis method allowed. The same codes（such as NTC2008, EC8） consider the linear dynamic analysis with behavior factor as the reference method for the evaluation of seismic demand. This type of analysis is based on a linear-elastic structural model subject to a design spectrum, obtained by reducing the elastic spectrum through a behavior factor. The behavior factor（reduction factor or q factor in some codes） is used to reduce the elastic spectrum ordinate or the forces obtained from a linear analysis in order to take into account the non-linear structural capacities. The behavior factors should be defined based on several parameters that influence the seismic nonlinear capacity, such as mechanical materials characteristics, structural system, irregularity and design procedures. In practical applications, there is still an evident lack of detailed rules and accurate behavior factor values adequate for existing buildings. In this work, some investigations of the seismic capacity of the main existing RC-MRF building types have been carried out. In order to make a correct evaluation of the seismic force demand, actual behavior factor values coherent with force based seismic safety assessment procedure have been proposed and compared with the values reported in the Italian seismic code, NTC08.

Gallstones in patients with liver cirrhosis:Incidence,etiology,clinical and therapeutical aspects

In this paper we study the universal squarefree lexsegment ideals, and put our attention on their combinatorics computing some invariants. Moreover, we study the link between such a special class of squarefree lexsegment ideals and the so-called s-sequences.

Granular materials composed of different-sized grains may experience undesired *** is detrimental for a lot of industries because it leads to an increase in production costs and *** these reasons,the segregation phenomena have been intensively studied in the last decades,and a lot of models have been provided by many ***,these models are mainly based on empirical relations rather than physical *** paper aims to confirm the main assumptions made by Volpato,Tirapelle,and Santomaso(2020)in their percolation theory by means of DEM *** simulated geometry is a tilting shear box filled with few tracer particles in a bed of coarser sized grains,and simulations are performed for a range of tilting frequencies and size *** results provide meaningful insight on the mathematical model parameters and allow us to say that the percolation theory relies on physically consistent assumptions.

Electrochemically driven phenothiazine modification of carbon nanodots

Carbon nanodots (CNDs) with enriched periphery carboxylic groups were synthesized using the low-cost starting material glucose. The obtained CNDs were assembled onto Au electrodes following one of two strategies: covalent bonding, using cystamine as a cross-linker, or by drop-casting. The immobilized CNDs were covalently modified with the phenothiazine Azure A via electron transfer chemistry; in particular via reactions with aryl diazonium salts. The reaction mechanism for the diazonium functionalization of CNDs was investigated. Spectroelectrochemistry experiments confirmed that electrografting, rather than adsorption, governs the functionalization of CNDs with Azure A. Finally, the application of these CNDs as electrocatalysts for the oxidation of hydrazine was demonstrated.

Modeling of microbial growth bioprocesses： Equilibria and stability analysis

The paper addresses the analysis of nonlinear dynamical models of some microbial growth processes. Equilibrium points, stability analysis, and structural properties are studied for different bioprocesses with various kinetics structures. First, a simple micro- organism growth process on a single limiting substrate is widely analyzed. Second, a microbial growth process combined with an enzyme-catalyzed reaction is investigated. The analysis shows that these kinds of bioprocesses have multiple equilibria, stable or unstable, operational or non-operational. The partition of nonlinear model in linear and nonlinear parts via some structural properties leads to kinetic decoupling and facilitates the equilibria and stability analysis. The performed research is useful for model reduction and for the design of observers and control algorithms. To illustrate the study results, several numerical simulations are provided.
