Essential oils from Elaeoselinum asclepium: Chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties

Objective: To evaluate the chemical composition of the essential oil isolated from Elaeoselinum asclepium(L.) Bertol.(E. asclepium), and test the efficiency of the essential oil as an antimicrobial and antioxidant ***: Essential oil was obtained from the aerial parts of E. asclepium by hydro distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. We study for the first time the chemical composition of the essential oil of E. asclepium, followed by the in vitro antimicrobial activities, which were evaluated by agar diffusion method against six Gram-positive bacteria, five Gram-negative bacteria, and two fungi. In addition, The antioxidant activities were also investigated using assays of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and ferricreducing ***: The analyzed essential oil of the aerial parts of E. asclepium was rich in apinene(43.9%), other compounds detected in appreciable amounts were sabinene(27.9%) and b-pinene(16.0%). The essential oil yields 1.2%, the IC50 values of essential oil in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay in the reducing power assay were 48.26 mg/m L and at 1 mg/m L, respectively. The absorbance value of essential oil at 700 nm was0.956. The antimicrobial effect was higher on Candida albicans ATCC 1024 strain with the inhibition zone 14.5 mm than bacteria and ***: The essential oil of E. asclepium has antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. These species may be used as an important source of natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents.

Objective This research was performed to evaluate the effect of tebuconazole(TBZ)on reproductive organs of male rats and to assess the protective role of combined essential trace elements in alleviating the detrimental effect of TBZ on male reproductive *** For this purpose,48 rats were exposed to 100 mg/kg TBZ,TBZ supplemented with zinc(Zn),selenium(Se),copper(Cu),and iron(Fe),TBZ+(Se+Zn);TBZ+Cu;or TBZ+*** experiment was conducted for 30 consecutive *** TBZ caused a significant perturbation in mineral levels and reduction in reproductive organs weights,plasma testosterone level,and testicular antioxidant enzyme *** TBZ-treated group also showed a significant increase in sperm abnormalities(count,motility,and viability percent),plasma follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone concentrations,lipid peroxidation,protein oxidation,and severe DNA degradation in comparison with the ***,TBZ caused testis ***,treatment with trace elements,in combination or alone,improved the reproductive organ weights,sperm characteristics,TBZ-induced toxicity,and histopathological modifications in *** TBZ exerts significant harmful effects on male reproductive *** concurrent administration of trace elements reduces testis dysfunction,fertility,and toxicity induced by TBZ.

The present study describes the characterization of crude protease extract from Arthrobacter arilaitensis Re117 and its evaluation in solid and liquid detergent. One caseinolytic protease clear band was observed in zymogram. The crude alkaline protease showed optimum activity at pH 9.0 and 50°C, and it was highly stable over a wide range of pH from 8.0 to 9.0. Proteolytic enzymes showed extreme stability towards non-ionic surfactants (Tween 80, Tween 20 and Triton X-100) and stimulate activity towards oxidizing agents such as sodium perborate. They also showed high stability and compatibility with various laundry solid detergents from Tunisian market. The protease of A. arilaitensis Re117, was also tested for shrimp waste deproteinization to produce chitin. The protein removal with a ratio E/S of 20 was about 83%. The novelties of the Re117 protease include its high stability to organic solvents and surfactants. These unique properties make it an ideal choice for application in detergent formulations and enzymatic peptide synthesis. In addition, the enzyme may find potential applications in the deproteinization of shrimp wastes to produce chitin.

Optimization of Protease Production by Bacillus mojavensis A21 on Chickpea and Faba Bean

Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the medium composition and culture conditions for the production of alkaline proteases by Bacillus mojavensis A21 on uncommon substrates: chickpea (CF) and faba bean (FF) flours. A significant positive influence of temperature, CF, FF, incubation time and inoculums size on the protease production was evaluated by Plackett Burman Design. Among these, CF was the most influential factor. The enhancement of protease to 9127 U/ml was achieved with the optimization procedure on the medium composed of (g/l): CF, 40;FF 30, NaCl 2.0;KH2PO4 1;K2HPO4 1;CaCl2, 0.1;MgSO4 0.1. The cultures were conducted for 72 hours with an IS of 2%, at 30°C, an agitation speed of 150 rpm and an initial pH of 8.0. More interestingly, the optimization was accomplished using two cheap and local fermentation substrates, CF and FF, which could result in a significant reduction in the cost of medium constituents. The maximum alkaline protease production was 9127 U/ml after 72 h of incubation and showed 5-fold increase in protease production over the initial level.

Wide-Angle Scanning Antennas for Millimeter-Wave 5G Applications

The fifth generation(5G)network communication systems operate in the millimeter waves and are expected to provide a much higher data rate in the multi-gigabit range,which is impossible to achieve using current wireless services,including the sub-6 GHz *** this work,we briefly review several existing designs of millimeter-wave phased arrays for 5G applications,beginning with the low-profile antenna array designs that either are fixed beam or scan the beam only in one *** then move on to array systems that offer two-dimensional(2D)scan capability,which is highly desirable for a majority of 5G ***,in the main body of the paper,we discuss two different strategies for designing scanning arrays,both of which circumvent the use of conventional phase shifters to achieve beam *** note that it is highly desirable to search for alternatives to conventional phase shifters in the millimeter-wave range because legacy phase shifters are both lossy and costly;furthermore,alternatives such as active phase shifters,which include radio frequency amplifiers,are both expensive and *** this backdrop,we propose two different antenna systems with potential for the desired 2D scan performance in the millimeter-wave *** first of these is a Luneburg lens,which is excited either by a 2D waveguide array or by a microstrip patch antenna array to realize 2D scan ***,for second design,we turn to phased-array designs in which the conventional phase shifter is replaced by switchable PIN diodes or varactor diodes,inserted between radiating slots in a waveguide to provide the desired phase shifts for ***,we discuss several approaches to enhance the gain of the array by modifying the conventional array *** describe novel techniques for realizing both one-dimensional(1D)and 2D scans by using a reconfigurable metasurface type of panels.

Hourly and monthly variations in the surface activity patterns of Hemilepistus reaumurii in arid environments of Tunisia

Life in desert ecosystems drives animals to adapt their surface locomotor activity according to environmental conditions. In this study, the hourly and monthly variations in the surface activity patterns of the terrestrial crustacean Hemilepistus reaumurii were investigated. The surface activity of H. reaumurii at the population scale was observed by collecting the hourly active individuals from the sunrise to the sunset of the studied day in each month of 2013 in the Bchachma locality, Tunisia. The collected active individuals were put in perspex boxes（on which we labeled the hourly time interval in which the individuals were collected） in the field and then transported to the laboratory for analysis. Individuals were counted, sexed, and measured in the laboratory. Despite desert conditions in the studied site, H. reaumurii was characterized by a diurnal surface activity, showing a bimodal pattern during the warm months（i.e., May to October）. However, it exhibited a unimodal surface activity pattern in the cold months（i.e., February, March, and November）. The surface activity was significantly correlated with sunrise and sunset. Moreover, a significant quadratic effect of temperature on the surface activity of H. reaumurii was observed. Furthermore, the study showed that the most important surface activity was recorded in March. The daily exploitation of the temporal niches was significantly different as a function of months. The body size of males was larger than that of females, and the body size of active individuals changed with months. All these behavioural changes in the surface activity represent an adaptive strategy of life in the arid environment.

Aggressive primary hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma:a case report and literature review

A new case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is reported to have occurred to a 67-year-old patient who consulted for rightsided chest pain. The work-up showed multiple right pulmonary lesions associated with bilateral moderate pleural effusion and left-sided pleural thickening and three hypodense nodules in the right lobe of the liver, peritoneal thickening, ascites, and multiple vertebral lytic lesions. The diagnosis of an epithelioid hemangioendothelioma was concluded through a histological examination of a computed tomography scan guided biopsy of the liver. The patient received a primary mono-chemotherapy with Adriamycin(75 mg/m^2 every three weeks) and intravenous bisphosphonates without response and general status impairment. The patient died after 16 months of follow-up.

The past decade witnessed rapid development of constraint satisfaction technologies, where algorithms are now able to cope with larger and harder problems. However, owing to the fact that constraints are inherently declarative, attention is quickly turning toward developing high-level programming languages within which such problems can be modeled and also solved. Along these lines, this paper presents DEPICT, the language. Its use is illustrated through modeling a number of benchmark examples. The paper continues with a description of a prototype system within which such models may be interpreted. The paper concludes with a description of a sample run of this interpreter showing how a problem modeled as such is typically solved.

BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)has high morbidity and mortality worldwide,therefore there is of paramount importance to identify the risk factors in the populations at risk early in the course of illness.A strong correlation between severity of metabolic syndrome(MetS)and HbA1c,fasting insulin and insulin resistance has been ***,the MetS severity score(or MestS Zscore)can potentially be used to predict the risk of T2DM progression over *** To evaluate the association the of MestS Z-score in first degree relatives(FDRs)of T2DM with the risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in *** A prospective open cohort study was conducted between *** baseline,the sample comprised of 1766 FDRs of patients with T2DM who had a normal glucose tolerance *** risk(RR)and 95%confidence interval were calculated based on logistic *** receiver-operator characteristic analysis and area under the curve based on MetS Z-score were used to evaluate the risk of prediabetes and diabetes among the FDR *** Baseline MetS Z-scores were associated with the its latest values(P<0.0001).Compared with individuals who were T2DM free at the end of follow up,those who developed T2DM had higher MetS Z-score at baseline(P<0.001).In multivariable logistic regression analyses for every unit elevation in MetS Z-score at the baseline,the RR for developing future T2DM and prediabetes was(RR=1.94,RR=3.84),(RR=1.5,RR=2.17)in total population and female group,respectively(P<0.05).The associations remained significant after adjusting the potential confounding variables.A cut off value of 0.97 and 0.94 was defined in the receiver-operator characteristic curve based on the MetS Z-score for differentiating female patients with diabetes and prediabetes from the normal population,*** The MetS Z-score was associated with an increased risk of future *** interventions at earlier stages for preventing and att
