Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic effects of Heracleum persicum L. extract on rats with gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity

Objective:To evaluate the effect of Heracleum persicum *** gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in ***:Thirty-six Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups including control(normal saline),gentamicin(80 mg/kg/d for 10 d),Heracleum persicum(750 mg/kg/d),and gentamicin(10 d)+Heracleum persicum extract at three different doses(250,500,and 750 mg/kg/d for 40 d).Urine creatinine,urea,protein,and albumin levels were *** addition,serum urea,creatinine,sodium,potassium,cytokines(TNF-α,IL-1β,IL-6,and IL-10),glutathione peroxidase activity,total antioxidant capacity,kidney malondialdehyde,stereological parameters,and expressions of apoptosis-related genes(p53,Bax,Bcl-2,and caspase-3)were *** LD50 of Heracleum persicum extract was determined based on Lorke’s *** evaluation was also ***:In addition to decreased urine protein and albumin,and increased creatinine and urea,co-treatment with gentamicin and Heracleum persicum significantly reduced levels of creatinine and urea,and increased sodium and potassium in *** persicum treatment also improved stereological parameters and serum inflammatory *** was a significant increase in serum glutathione peroxidase activity and total antioxidant capacity as well as a reduction in malondialdehyde ***,treatment with Heracleum persicum extracts downregulated p53,caspase-3,and Bax and upregulated Bcl-2 *** histopathological evaluation,Heracleum persicum extracts showed protection against gentamicin-induced renal ***:Heracleum persicum exhibits protective effects against gentamicin-induced structural and functional renal impairments.

A new boundary element solution to evaluate the geometric effects of the canyon site on the displacement response spectrum

This paper presents a step-by-step procedure using the three-dimensional boundary element approach to study the behavior of semi-circular canyons under seismic shear waves. The boundary element code TDASC allows utilization for various canyon geometries, evaluation of concurrent seismic waves and calculation of the ground motions on canyons due to an excitation at any arbitrary point of the incident field. Considering the widening ratio of the canyon(including prismatic, semi-prismatic and non-prismatic canyons), wave characteristics(wavelength, dimensionless period, direction) and maximum amplification pattern, the solution was applied to carry out a series of parametric studies. It was shown that canyon form can significantly affect the displacement amplification, especially at the points located on its edges. By increasing the wave dimensionless frequency(η > 1), the amplification pattern becomes more complex. On the basis of the results from a variety of considered cases, a new expression has been presented for the limiting wavelength beyond which the widening of the canyon will not have a major effect on the displacement amplification. To verify the reliability of the proposed approach, the obtained results, expressed in terms of displacement amplitude, were compared with those from the available published literature and a reasonably good agreement was observed.

On the Relation Between Symmetry of Radio Galaxies and Their Physical Parameters

Gravity as a fundamental force plays a dominant role in the formation and evolution of cosmic objects and leaves its effect in the emergence of symmetric and asymmetric ***,analyzing the symmetry criteria allows us to uncover mechanisms behind the gravity interaction and understand the underlying physical processes that contribute to the formation of large-scale structures such as *** use a segmentation process using intensity thresholding and the k-means clustering algorithm to analyze radio galaxy *** employ a symmetry criterion and explore the relation between morphological symmetry in radio maps and host galaxy *** properties(stellar mass,black hole mass,optical size(R_(50)),concentration,stellar mass surface density(μ_(50)),and stellar age)and radio properties(radio flux density,radio luminosity,and radio size)are *** found that there is a correlation between symmetry and radio size,indicating larger radio sources have smaller symmetry ***,size of radio sources should be considered in any investigation of *** correlations are also observed with other properties,such as R_(50)for FRI galaxies and stellar *** compare the symmetry differences between FRI and FRII radio *** galaxies show higher symmetry in 1.4 GHz and 150 MHz *** the influence of radio source sizes,we discovered that this result is independent of the sizes of radio *** findings contribute to our understanding of the morphological properties and analyses of radio galaxies.

Density,refractive index and liquid–liquid equilibrium data of polyethylene glycol 3000 + potassium formate + water at different pH values

New liquid-liquid equilibrium data for polyethylene glycol （PEG） 3000 ＋ CHO2K ＋ H20 systems were measured at 298.15 K and pH values of 7.95, 8.40 and 9.98. It was found that an increase in pH caused the binodal curve to be displaced downward and the two-phase region to expand. Accordingly, the binodal curve was adjusted to the Pirdashti equation and the tie-line compositions were correlated using the Othmer-Tobias, Bancroft and Hand equations. The study measured the refractive index and densities of several homogeneous binary and ternary solutions. The solutions were used for calibration within a range of 0% to 30% of the mass of the PEG and potassium formate. The density and refractive index data show a linear variation with the mass fraction of the polymer and the salt. The effect of pH on the binodal, tie-line lengths （TLL） and slope of the tie-line （STL） in the systems was exam- ined. It was found that an increase in pH increased the TLL and decreased the STL It was observed that the density of the aqueous two-phase system was influenced by the TLL The difference in density between phases （△p） increased as the TLL and pH increased. It was found that the TLL and Ap showed a linear relationship. The effective excluded volume （EEV） of the PEG was obtained and it was found that EEV also increased as the pH increased.

Microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties of Al-2024 alloy processed via a rheocasting route

This article reports the effects of stirring speed and T6 heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-2024 alloy synthesized by a rheocasting process. There was a decrease in grain size ofα-Al particles corresponding to an increase in stirring speed. By increasing the stirring speed, however, the globularity of matrix particles first increased and then declined. It was also found that the hardness, compressive strength, and compressive strain increased with the increase of stirring speed. Microstructural studies revealed the presence of nonsoluble Al15（CuFeMn）3Si2 phase in the vicinity of CuAl2 in the rheocast samples. The required time for the solution treatment stage was also influenced by stirring speed;the solution treatment time decreased with the increase in stirring speed. Furthermore, the rheo-cast samples required a longer homogenization period compared to conventionally wrought alloys. Improvements in hardness and compres-sive properties were observed after T6 heat treatment.

Development of fragility curves by incorporating new spectral shape indicators and a weighted damage index:case study of steel braced frames in the city of Mashhad,Iran

In this study, strong ground motion record （SGMR） selection based on Eta （~/） as a spectral shape indicator has been investigated as applied to steel braced flame structures. A probabilistic seismic hazard disaggregation analysis for the definition of the target Epsilon （ε） and the target Eta （η） values at different hazard levels is presented, taking into account appropriately selected SGMR＇s. Fragility curves are developed for different limit states corresponding to three representative models of typical steel braced frames having significant irregularities in plan, by means of a weighted damage index. The results show that spectral shape indicators have an important effect on the predicted median structural capacities, and also that the parameter r/is a more robust predictor of damage than searching for records with appropriate c values.

Nanoscale self-healing mechanisms in shape memory ceramics

Surface modification of broom sorghum-based activated carbon via functionalization with triethylenetetramine and urea for CO2 capture enhancement

A new type of activated carbon （AC） was synthesized using broom sorghum stalk as a low cost carbon source through chemical activation with H3PO4 and KOH. The AC obtained by KOH had the largest BET surface area of 1619 m^2·g^-1 and the highest micropore volume of 0.671 cm^3·g^-1. CO2 adsorption was enhanced by functionalizing the AC with two different amines： triethylenetetramine （TETA） and urea. The structure of the prepared ACs was characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and acid-base Boehm titration analyses. The adsorption behavior of CO2 onto raw and amine-functionalized ACs was investigated in the temperature range of 288-308 K and pressures up to 25 bar. The amount of CO2 uptake at 298 K and 1 bar achieved by AC-TETA and AC-urea was 3.22 and 2.33 mmol·g^-1 which shows a 92% and 40% improvement compared to pristine AC （1.66 mmol·g^-1）, respectively. Among different model isotherms used to describe the adsorption equilibria, Sips isotherm presented a perfect fit in all cases. Gas adsorption kinetic study revealed a fast kinetics of CO2 adsorption onto the ACs. The evaluation of the isosteric heat of adsorption demonstrated the exothermic nature of the CO2 adsorption onto unmodified and modified samples.
