Tropical peat comprises decomposed dead plant material and acts like a sponge to absorb water,making it fully ***,drought periods dry it readily and increases its vulnerability to *** fires emit greenhouse gases and particles contributing to haze,and prevention by constructing fire-break canals to reduce fire spread into forest reserves is *** paper aims to determine peat physical and chemical properties near a fire-break canal at different fire frequency *** sampling was conducted at two forest reserves in Malaysia which represent low fire frequency and high fire frequency *** results show that peat properties were not affected by the construction of a fire-break canal,however lignin and cellulose content increased significantly from the distance of the canal in both *** study concluded that fire frequency did not significantly influence peat properties except for *** higher fibre content in the high frequency area did not influence moisture content nor the ability to regain ***,fire frequency might contribute differently to changes in physical and chemical properties,hence management efforts to construct fire-break canals and restoration efforts should protect peatlands from further *** findings will benefit future management and planning for forest reserves.

Baccaurea motleyana(rambai)is underutilized fruits that are native to Malaysia,Indonesia and *** this study,a total of 54,779 unigenes identified from rambai transcriptome were used for simple sequence repeat(SSR)analysis by MIcroSAtellite(MISA).A total of 20,420 SSRs were found to be distributed within 37.27%of the total number of *** repeats represented the main type,accounting for 64.04%,followed by trinucleotide repeats(20.28%)and dinucleotide repeats(19.94%).Gene annotation to seven databases has a success ratio of 68.53%(National Center for Biotechnology Information(NCBI)protein sequences),53.68%(NCBI nucleotide sequences),27.43%(Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome Ortholog),56.0%(SwissProt),52.44%(Protein family),53.99%(Gene Ontology)and 26.44%(Kluster of Orthologous Group).Further rambai SSRs were randomly selected and validated to ***(rambai),***(tampoi),***(jentik-jentik),***(pupor)and ***(setambun).

Development of Starfruit Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) Using Next Generation Sequencing

Starfruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) is an important fruit for Malaysian export and great attention has been made to improve starfruit fruit quality at Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). The current study used next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to develop starfruit simple sequence repeat (SSR) from 2 varieties namely B11 and B17 using Illumina HiSeq. The pre-processed reads were de novo assembled to generate approximately 75,000 and 74,000 scaffolds respectively. Total genome size for B11 and B17 were around 345 Mbp and 342 Mbp based on K-mer distribution analysis. In-silico microsatellite mining of each variety has identified more than 17,000 SSR in B11 and B17 respectively. Dinucleotides were the most abundant, accounting for more than 70% of all SSR and repeat motif GA (49%) was most common. A total of 239 SSR primer pairs were designed from contigs larger than 350 nucleotides and tested for amplification. The 30 polymorphic SSRs were used to DNA fingerprint of 12 starfruit hybrids. Polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged from 0.1411 to 0.6838, with an average of 0.3919. The Unweighted Pair-Group Method for Arithmetic Averages (UPGMA) dendrogram clustered 12 starfruit accessions into 2 groups.

Conductivity enhancement by controlled percolation of inorganic salt in multiphase hexanoyl chitosan/polystyrene polymer blends

Hexanoyl chitosan and polystyrene blends are immiscible by the elucidation of the glass transition temperature （Tg） as well as the viscometric and morphological analyses. Selective localization of the lithium salt in hexanoyl chitosan phase as the percolation pathway enhanced the conductivity in the blends as compared to the neat hexanoyl chitosan. The ionic conductivity of a polymer electrolyte is described by σ = enp. Thus, estimation of charge carrier density （n） and mobility （μ） is important in order to assess the performance. In this work, these parameters are calculated using impedance spectroscopy and FTIR.

The application of biomimetics in the development of unmanned-aerial-vehicles （UAV） has advanced to an exceptionally small scale of nano-aerial-vehicles （NAV）, which has surpassed its immediate predecessor of micro-aerial-vehicles （MAV）, leaving a vast range of development possi- bilities that MAVs have to offer. Because of the prompt advancement into the NAV research devel- opment, the true potential and challenges presented by MAV development were never solved, understood, and truly uncovered, especially under the influence of transition and low Reynolds number flow characteristics. This paper reviews a part of previous MAV research developments which are deemed important of notification; kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms ranges from small birds to big insects, which resides within the transition and low Reynolds number regimes. This paper also reviews the possibility of applying a piezoelectric transmission used to pro- duce NAV flapping wing motion and mounted on a MAV, replacing the conventional motorized flapping wing transmission. Findings suggest that limited work has been done for MAVs matching these criteria. The preferred research approach has seen bias towards numerical analysis as compared to experimental analysis.

Strength Performance and Microstructure Characteristic of Naturally-Bonded Fiberboard Composite from Malaysian Bamboo(Bambusa vulgaris)

This study investigated the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of fiberboard composite produced by naturally-bonded Malaysian bamboo fiber(Bambusa vulgaris).The components that obtained through soda pulping of bamboo culms such as fiber and black liquor,were used for the preparation of high-density fibreboard composite at two target densities of 850 and 950 kg/m^(3).The bamboo fiberboard composite(BFC)were then produced at 200°C and two pressing parameters of 125 and 175 s/*** mechanical properties,e.g.,flexural strength and internal bonding(IB)of BFC samples were evaluated according to BS EN 310:1993 and BS EN 319:1993,*** was found that the mechanical performance of the composite with 850 kg/m^(3)density was significantly higher than 950 kg/m^(3)ones,especially for the samples with 125 s/mm pressing *** characteristic of the BFC samples illustrated that the fiber linkages were cracked in the composites with higher density,e.g.,the composite with the density of 950 kg/m^(3)and also black liquor were slightly degraded at longer pressing time,which led to the reduction in mechanical properties,especially in IB strength.

Background:Habitat degradation is known to have a major impact on the composition of bird communities,yet how these communities recover following such disturbance is less *** study examined bird community changes from pre-logging to recovery over the course of habitat disturbance caused by the development of the Hulu Terengganu Hydroelectric Dam Project in Peninsular Malaysia,between 2007 and *** surveys were conducted using point count observations and mist netting in the dam area from the prelogging phase until the operation ***:It was observed that while bird species significantly declined after large-scale habitat clearance between the pre-logging and construction phases,they showed positive signs of recovery from the inundation to operation *** findings indicate that the bird community is still recovering,and the permanent loss of habitat required by most of the original species has not occurred,as evidenced by *** species composition differed across phases due to varying habitat *** turnover rate and immigration rate(recolonisation and newly recorded species)were higher between the construction and operation *** was also observed that insectivorous birds were more heavily affected than others by changes to the landscape,which highlights the versatility,survivability and tolerance of certain species to extreme disturbance and habitat ***:Although the operation phase showed an incremental change in bird species richness due to recolonisation and newly recorded species,this value remains far from that of the pre-logging *** predict that bird species recovery will continue to increase for some time before reaching a plateau among the newly created islands,reservoir and catchment area of the dam.

Tamper Detection and Localization for Quranic Text Watermarking Scheme Based on Hybrid Technique

The text of the Quran is principally dependent on the Arabic ***,improving the security and reliability of the Quran’s text when it is exchanged via internet networks has become one of the most difcult challenges that researchers face ***,the diacritical marks in the Holy Quran which represent Arabic vowels(i,j.s)known as the kashida(or“extended letters”)must be protected from *** cover text of the Quran and its watermarked text are different due to the low values of the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR),and Normalized Cross-Correlation(NCC);thus,the location for tamper detection accuracy is *** gap addressed in this paper to improve the security of Arabic text in the Holy Quran by using vowels with *** enhance the watermarking scheme of the text of the Quran based on hybrid techniques(XOR and queuing techniques)of the purposed *** methodology propose scheme consists of four phases:The rst phase is *** is followed by the second phase where an embedding process takes place to hide the data after the vowel letters wherein if the secret bit is“1”,it inserts the kashida but does not insert the kashida if the bit is“0”.The third phase is an extraction process and the last phase is to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme by using PSNR(for the imperceptibility),and NCC(for the security of the watermarking).Experiments were performed on three datasets of varying lengths under multiple random locations of insertion,reorder and deletion *** experimental results were revealed the improvement of the NCC by 1.76%,PSNR by 9.6%compared to available current schemes.

Discovering optimal features using static analysis and a genetic search based method for Android malware detection

Mobile device manufacturers are rapidly producing miscellaneous Android versions worldwide. Simultaneously, cyber criminals are executing malicious actions, such as tracking user activities, stealing personal data, and committing bank fraud. These criminals gain numerous benefits as too many people use Android for their daily routines, including important communications. With this in mind, security practitioners have conducted static and dynamic analyses to identify malware. This study used static analysis because of its overall code coverage, low resource consumption, and rapid processing. However, static analysis requires a minimum number of features to efficiently classify malware. Therefore, we used genetic search（GS）, which is a search based on a genetic algorithm（GA）, to select the features among 106 strings. To evaluate the best features determined by GS, we used five machine learning classifiers, namely, Na？ve Bayes（NB）, functional trees（FT）, J48, random forest（RF）, and multilayer perceptron（MLP）. Among these classifiers, FT gave the highest accuracy（95%） and true positive rate（TPR）（96.7%） with the use of only six features.
