A solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) films consist-ing of polyethylene oxide (PEO), 50% epoxi-dized natural rubber (ENR50) and LiCF3SO3 with various compositions of PEO-ENR50 and vari-ous weight percentage of LiCF3SO3 were pre-pared by solution casting technique. The poly-mer electrolyte films were characterized using DSC, XRD and AC impedance spectroscopy. The SPE with the PEO-ENR50 composition of 70-30 shows the highest conductivity of 4.2 × 10-5 Scm-1 at the 15 wt.% of LiCF3SO3 compared with the other composition of PEO/ENR50. This composition was then chosen to investigate the effect of LiCF3SO3 on the thermal property, structure and conductivity of the electrolyte. The highest room temperature conductivity of 1.4 × 10-4 Scm-1 was achieved at 20 wt.% of LiCF3SO3. The conductivity result is supported by the DSC and XRD analysis which showed the semi- crystalline nature of PEO turning to amor-phous state due to the increase in LiCF3SO3 content.

Petroleum supplies a large portion of the world’s energy, thereby driving industrial civilization. It remains an important factor in dictating market prices of diverse products and services. Distillation of crude oil is a common fractionation method of petroleum producing desirable products, such as automotive fuel and kerosene. Conventional distillation has been the current fractionation process for decades, producing distillates of interest and is conducted without any involvement of biological materials. The process involves tremendous amount of thermal energy and requiring a long time. This research offers an improved distillation performance and yield. A small amount of rhamnolipid produced from a microbial culture Pseudomonas aeruginosa USM-AR2, is added and mixed thoroughly with the crude oil prior to distillation. This results in a drastic reduction in distillation time without affecting or reducing the quality of the distillate. The pretreatment accelerates the emulsification and biodegradation process by decreasing surface tension and viscosity of oil, which in turn resulted in the shorter distillation times. Reducing the distillation times translates to energy and cost savings in producing petroleum products. Since oil prices affect many other industries, this discovery will have a great impact on the economy.

Tourism is changing rapidly as nature and heritage destinations become more important, and as conventional tourism are forced to meet tougher environmental requirements. Therefore, geotourism emerges to meet the new demand for nature based tourism. It is a new form of sustainable tourism which aims to educate people the aesthetic, cultural, recreational and aesthetic value of geological heritage resources and plays as a solution for the apparent conflict between economic growth and environmental quality. With proper enforcement emplaced, this idea of protection through usage should lead to an increase in geological, environmental and socio-cultural awareness among geotourists and local guardians of geological heritage. On the other hand, the growing economic significance of nature tourism might trigger temptation to ignore any possible negative environmental and socio-cultural impacts(e.g. visitor over capacity, unaware and consumptive tourists, inadequate knowledge and enforcement during the construction of tourism infrastructures and amenities ***) consequently resulting in the same harmful effects as that of mass tourism which may put geoheritage resources under a serious threat and there rises the possibility of net loss of geotourism due to greater costs to compared to the benefits. The economic concept of value refers to any net change in the welfare of society. Hence, the measurement of the relative costs(direct, indirect and intangible) and benefits(economic, social, environmental and landscape) of geotourism is important in order to understand the impact of geotourism on the community as a whole, to protect community wellbeing, and to ensure the long term viability of the natural area tourism product. Carica papaya leaf extracts from four different extraction methods (cold-water, hot-water, sonication and supercritical fluid), were characterized using physico-chemical analysis. Sonication extraction showed the highest percentage yield of crude extracts (6.76%) and the lowest from the supercritical fluid extraction (1.83%). The Infrared (IR) spectrum of cold-water extract demonstrated the most similarity of functional group to quercetin. Likewise, the thermal analysis indicated that cold-water extract gave a quite similar Endothermic peak to quercetin with the obtained value which was 137°C and onset value which was 118°C. The liquid chromatography (LC) profile indicated that only the cold-water extract exhibited 0.203 ppm of quercetin.

Drought is one of the critical conditions for the growth and productivity of many crops including mung bean(Vigna radiata ***).Screening of genotypes for variations is one of the suitable strategies for evaluating crop adaptability and global food *** this context,the study investigated the physiological and biochemical responses of four drought tolerant(BARI Mung-8,BMX-08010-2,BMX-010015,BMX-08009-7),and four drought sensitive(BARI Mung-1,BARI Mung-3,BU Mung-4,BMX-05001)mung bean genotypes under wellwatered(WW)and water deficit(WD)*** WW treatment maintained sufficient soil moisture(22%±0.5%,i.e.,30%deficit of available water)by regularly supplying ***,the WD treatment was maintained throughout the growing period,and water was applied when the wilting symptom *** drought tolerant(DT)genotypes BARI Mung-8,BMX-08010-2,BMX-010015,BMX-08009-7 showed a high level of proline accumulation(2.52–5.99 mg g^(−1) FW),photosynthetic pigment(total chlorophyll 2.96–3.27 mg g^(−1) FW at flowering stage,and 1.62–2.38 mg g^(−1) FW at pod developing stage),plant water relation attributes including relative water content(RWC)(82%–84%),water retention capacity(WRC)(12–14)as well as lower water saturation deficit(WSD)(19%–23%),and water uptake capacity(WUC)(2.58–2.89)under WD condition,which provided consequently higher relative seed *** indicate that the tolerant genotypes gained better physiobiochemical attributes and adaptability in response to drought ***,the genotype BMX-08010-2 showed superiority in terms of those physio-biochemical traits,susceptibility index(SSI)and stress tolerance index(STI)to other *** on the physiological and biochemical responses,the BMX-08010-2 was found to be a suitable genotype for sustaining yield under drought stress,and subsequently,it could be recommended for crop improvement through hybridization *** addition,the identified traits can be used as markers to ide

Case Report: Dual Antiplatelet in Capsular Warning Syndrome

Background: Capsular warning syndrome (CWS) is defined as a recurrent stereotype transient lacunar syndrome without cortical symptoms. However, to date, there is limited literature proposed on the definitive treatment options for the prevention of persistent stroke in cases of capsular warning syndrome. Aim: The aim of this case report is to address dual antiplatelet therapy as a treatment choice in CWS to prevent progressive stroke. Case presentation: A 56-year-old man with several comorbidities experienced recurrent periods of limb weakness and dysarthria lasting 5 - 20 minutes with a complete resolution of symptoms in between. The fluctuating episodes lasted for 72 hours followed by a persistent minor stroke. A gadolinium-enhanced MRI scan of the brain revealed a right basal ganglia infarct. He was treated with dual antiplatelet, and his functional outcome was favourable at 90 days post stroke. Conclusion: Dual antiplatelet may be a beneficial therapeutic option in CWS in improving functional outcomes in the early neurological deficit and decreasing the clinical fluctuation.

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is liquid waste produced from palm oil extraction process. Discharging it to the river without treatment is violation according to Malaysia Environment of Quality Act (EQA) 1974. In Malaysia, ponding system is a conventional treatment method for POME due to its economical and simple process. The treatment process mainly involves two main treatment phases;anaerobic and aerobic degradation. Anaerobic degradation has a proven track record in reducing pollutant properties in POME up to 85%. The real challenge is to increase the efficiency of aerobic process as the biological oxygen demand (BOD) discharge limit has been further reduced from 100 mg·L-1 to less than 20 mg·L-1. One of economical and feasible approach to increase the efficiency of aerobic phase is via bioremediation. This paper describes the limitation of aerobic degradation in ponding system, besides discussed on the important aspects that need to be optimized for a success implementation of bioremediation and its challenges.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of pre-treatments by using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and acetic acid on oil palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) fibres for the production of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF). The EFB fibres were treated with chemicals in the concentration range of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8% prior to refining. Single-homogenous layer MDF with 12 mm thickness and density of 720 kg/m3 was produced. Urea-Formaldehyde (UF) was applied at 10% loading (based on dry weight of dry fibres) as a binder. The physical properties (Water Absorption (WA) and Thickness Swelling (TS)) of the produced panels were tested according to European Standard, EN 622-5:2006. The results show that types of chemical used had greater effects than concentration on the dimensional stability of the MDF. EFB fibres treated with acetic acid produced MDF with better dimensional stability compared to the MDF NaOH treated fibres. High concentration of NaOH produced poor dimensional stability in the panels.

This paper presents the high gain, low noise Cascode LNA with RF amplifier at 5.8GHz using T-matching network applicable for WIMAX application. The Cascode LNA uses FHX76LP Low Noise SuperHEMT FET and RF amplifier use EPA018A. The LNA designed used T-matching network consisting of lump element reactive element at the input and the output terminal. The Cascode LNA with RF amplifier produced gain of 35.5 dB and noise figure （NF） at 1.4dB. The input reflection （S11） and output return loss （S22 ） are -12.4dB and -12.3dB respectively. The bandwidth of the amplifier is more than 1.2 GHz. The input sensitivity is compliant with the IEEE 802.16 standards.
