The oxidation of para‐xylene to terephthalic acid has been commercialised as the AMOCO process(Co/Mn/Br) that uses a homogeneous catalyst of cobalt and manganese together with a corrosive bromide compound as a promoter. This process is conducted in acidic medium at a high tempera‐ture(175–225 °C). Concerns over environmental and safety issues have driven studies to find mild‐er oxidation reactions of para‐xylene. This review discussed past and current progress in the oxida‐tion of para‐xylene process. The discussion concentrates on the approach of green chemistry in‐cluding(1) using heterogeneous catalysts with promising high selectivity and mild reaction condi‐tion,(2) application of carbon dioxide as a co‐oxidant, and(3) application of alternative promoters. The optimisation of para‐xylene oxidation was also outlined.

Electrical energy generation and storage have always been complementary to each other but are often disconnected in practical electrical ***,efforts to combine both energy generation and storage into self-powered energizers have demonstrated promising power sources for wearable and implantable *** line with these efforts,achieving self-rechargeability in energy storage from ambient energy is envisioned as a tertiary energy storage(3rd-ES)*** review examines a few of the possible 3rd-ES capable of harvesting ambient energy(photo-,thermo-,piezo-,tribo-,and bio-electrochemical energizers),focusing also on the devices'*** self-rechargeability mechanisms of these devices,which function through modifications of the energizers’constituents,are analyzed,and designs for wearable electronics are also *** challenges for self-rechargeable energizers and avenues for further electrochemical performance enhancement are *** article serves as a one-stop source of information on self-rechargeable energizers,which are anticipated to drive the revolution in 3rd-ES technologies.

Estimating the Properties of Ground-Waste-Brick Mortars Using DNN and ANN

In this study,deep-neural-network(DNN)-and artificial-neural-network(ANN)-based models along with regression models have been developed to estimate the pressure,bending and elongation values of ground-brick(GB)-added mortar *** study is aimed at utilizing GB as a mineral additive in concrete in the ratios 0.0%,2.5%,5.0%,7.5%,10.0%,12.5%and 15.0%.In this study,756 mortar samples were produced for 84 different series and were cured in tap water(W),5%sodium sulphate solution(SS5)and 5%ammonium nitrate solution(AN5)for 7 days,28 days,90 days and 180 *** developed DNN models have three inputs and two hidden layers with 20 neurons and one output,whereas the ANN models have three inputs,one output and one hidden layer with 15 ***-five previously obtained experimental sample datasets were used to train these developed models and to generate the regression ***-nine non-training-attributed datasets were used to test the *** these test values were attributed to the trained DNN,ANN and regression models,the brick-dust pressure as well as the bending and elongation values have been observed to be very close to the experimental *** only a small fraction(30%)of the experimental data were used for training,both the models performed the estimation process at a level that was in accordance with the opinions of *** fact that this success has been achieved using very little training data shows that the models have been appropriately *** addition,the DNN models exhibited better performance as compared with that exhibited by the ANN *** regression model is a model whose performance is worst and unacceptable;further,the prediction error is observed to be considerably *** conclusion,ANN-and DNN-based models are practical and effective to estimate these values.

The Electroreduction of Gadolinium and Dysprosium Ions in Equimolar NaCl-KCl Melt

The mechanism of rare earth metals (Gd and Dy) chloride complexes electroreduction on the tungsten electrode in equimolar NaCl-KCl melt at 973 K has been studied by linear and cyclic voltammetry. Some kinetic parameters of processes were calculated. It was shown that the tungsten electrode was indifferent to gadolinium and dysprosium which were reduced on the surface. We found that the discharge mechanism of gadolinium and dysprosium chloride complexes was described by three-electron step when the steady-state conditions of polarization were limited by the mass transfer stage. The conditions of nonstationary polarization made the slowness of the charge transfer stage. The diffusion coefficient of gadolinium and dysprosium ions was calculated, the diffusion coefficient of GdCl3-6 ions was (0.9 ± 0.2) × 10-5 cm2.s-1, and for DYCI3-6 ions, it was (1.60 ± 0.2) × 10-5 сm2.s-1.
