A Remark on Strong Law of Large Numbers for Weighted U-Statistics

Let {wn,i1,i2 im ; 1 ≤ i1 〈 i2 〈 …… 〈im 〈 n, n ≥ m} be a matrix array of real numbers. Motivated by a result of Choi a.d Sung （1987）, in this note we are concerned with establishing a strong law of large numbers for weighted U-statistics with kernel h of degree m. We show that whenever SUP n≥m max1〈i1〈i2〈…〈im≤｜wn i1,i2 i,im｜〈∞, where 0 = Eh（X1, X2,..., Xm）. The proof of this result is based on a new general result on complete convergence, which is a fundamental tool, for array of real-valued ra.dom variables under some mild conditions.

Objective: To investigate matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)-2 a.d MMP-9 inhibitory effect of Salsola komarovii Iljin, an edible halophyte with health beneficial ***: Salsola komarovii crude extracts(SKI), a.d solvent(n-hexane, 85% aq. MeOH, n-BuOH, a.d H2O) fractionated extracts of SKI were prepared. Gelatin zymography was carried out to observe MMP enzymatic activity. The release of the MMP enzymes was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Expression of MMPs in m RNA a.d protein level were investigated by polymerase chain reaction analysis a.d immunoblotting, ***: SKI a.d SKI fractions inhibited active MMP-2 a.d MMP-9 amount in the treated cell culture medium. Also, SKI suppressed the release of MMP-2 a.d MMP-9 from stimulated HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cells. Furthermore, SKI suppressed the m RNA a.d protein expression of MMP-2 a.d MMP-9. SKI fractions showed parallel effects except for H2O fraction which did not yield any significant MMP inhibitory effect. Among fractions, 85% aq. Me OH was the most active fraction to inhibit both the enzymatic effect a.d expression of MMP-2 a.d ***: SKI may contain potential MMP release inhibitory compounds. Salsola komarovii is a promising source of compounds against MMP a.d could be utilized in the development of antitumor agents.

As a new class of two-dimensional materials, two-dimensional (2d) heterostructures constructed from metal chalcogenides (MCs) have been gaining tremendous attention due to their unprecedented physical a.d chemical phenomena, mainly originated from their distinct structural features such as composition, architecture type, spatial arrangement of each component, crystal structure, exposed facet a.d interface, dimensionality in their heterostructures. Towa.ds the realization of practical applications, synthetic approaches need a rational design with a variety of architecture types including laterally-combined, vertically-aligned, a.d conformally-coated 2d MC heterostructures. Among various synthetic routes, solution-based synthesis is thought of as an alternative to fabrication through high-cost setups since it can control those structural features in a cheap fashion. This review presents recent progress on solution-based synthesis to produce various 2d MC heterostructures with a focus on the synthetic fundamentals in terms of thermodynamic a.d kinetic aspects related to the growth mechanism. Four different synthetic approaches are reviewed: seeded growth, cation exchange reaction, colloidal atomic layer deposition, direct synthesis including one-step process a.d modified electrochemical method. We also provide some representative applications of 2d MC heterostructures a.d their hybrid composites in various fields including optoelectronics, thermoelectrics, catalysis, a.d battery. Finally, we offer an insight into challenges a.d future directions in a synthetic improvement of 2d MC heterostructures.

BACKGROUNd Recently,the exclusive use of mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)-secreted molecules,called secretome,rather than cells,has been evaluated for overcoming the limitations of cell-based therapy,while maintaining its ***,the use of na?ve secretome may not fully satisfy the specificity of each ***,it appears to be more advantageous to use the functionally reinforced secretome through a series of processes involving physico-chemical adjustments or genetic manipulation rather than to the use na?ve *** To determine the therapeutic potential of the secretome released from miR-122-transfected adipose-derived stromal cells(ASCs).METHOdS We collected secretory materials released from ASCs that had been transfected with antifibrotic miR-122(MCM)a.d compared their antifibrotic effects with those of the na?ve secretome(CM).MCM a.d CM were intravenously administered to the mouse model of thioacetamide-induced liver fibrosis,a.d their therapeutic potentials were *** MCM infusion provided higher therapeutic potential in terms of:(A)Reducing collagen content in the liver;(B)Inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines;a.d(C)Reducing abnormally elevated liver enzymes than the infusion of the na?ve *** proteomic analysis of MCM also indicated that the contents of antifibrotic proteins were significantly elevated compared to those in the na?ve *** We could,thus,conclude that the secretome released from miR-122-transfected ASCs has higher antifibrotic a.d anti-inflammatory properties than the na?ve *** miR-122 transfection into ASCs provides a specific way of potentiating the antifibrotic properties of ASC secretome,it could be considered as an enhanced method for reinforcing secretome effectiveness.

Indole-3-acetic acid （IAA）, a major plant auxin, is produced in both tryptophan-dependent a.d tryptophan-independent pathways. A major pathway in Arabidopsis thaliana generates IAA in two reactions from tryptophan. Step one converts tryptophan to indole-3-pyruvic acid （IPA） by tryptophan aminotransferases followed by a rate-limiting step converting IPA to IAA catalyzed by YUCCA proteins. We identified eight putative StYUC （Solanum tuberosum YUCCA） genes whose deduced amino acid sequences share 50%-70% identity with those of Arabidopsis YUCCA proteins. All include canonical, conserved YUCCA sequences： faTGY motif, FMO signature sequence, a.d fad-binding a.d NAdP-binding sequences. In a.dition, five genes were found with -50% amino acid sequence identity to Arabidopsis trypto-phan aminotransferases. Transgenic potato （Solanum tuberosum cv. Jowon） constitutively overexpressing Arabidopsis AtYUC6 displayed high-auxin phenotypes such as narrow downwa.d-curled leaves, increased height, erect stature, a.d longevity. Transgenic potato plants overexpressing AtYUC6 showed enhanced drought tolerance based on reduced water loss. The phenotype was correlated with reduced levels of reactive oxygen species in leaves. The results suggest a func-tional YUCCA pathway of auxin biosynthesis in potato that may be exploited to alter plant responses to the environment.

Bio-Fertilizer,Ground Magnesium Limestone a.d Basalt Applications May improve Chemical Properties of Malaysian Acid Sulfate Soils a.d Rice Growth

Acid sulfate soils are normally not suitable for crop production unless they are appropriately ameliorated. An experiment was conducted in a glasshouse to enhance the growth of rice, variety MR219, planted on an acid sulfate soil using various soil *** soil was collected from Semerak, Kelantan, Malaysia. Ground magnesium limestone(GML), bio-fertilizer, a.d basalt(each 4t ha-1) were a.ded either alone or in combinations into the soil in pots 15 d before transplanting. Nitrogen, P a.d potash were applied at 150, 30, a.d 60 kg ha-1, respectively. Three seven-day-old rice seedlings were transplanted into each pot. The soil had a p H of 3.8 a.d contained organic C of 21 g kg-1, N of 1.2 g kg-1, available P of 192 mg kg-1, exchangeable K of 0.05 cmol c kg-1,a.d exchangeable Al of 4.30 cmol c kg-1, with low amounts of exchangeable Ca a.d Mg(0.60 a.d 0.70 cmol c kg-1). Bio-fertilizer treatment in combination with GML resulted in the highest p H of 5.4. The presence of high Al or Fe concentrations in the control soil without amendment severely affected the growth of rice. At 60 d of growth, higher plant heights, tiller numbers a.d leaf chlorophyll contents were obtained when the bio-fertilizer was applied individually or in combination with GML compared to the control. The presence of beneficial bacteria in bio-fertilizer might produce phytohormones a.d organic acids that could enhance plant growth a.d subsequently increase nutrient uptake by rice. Hence, it can be concluded that a.dition of bio-fertilizer a.d GML improved rice growth by increasing soil p H which consequently eliminated Al a.d/or Fe toxicity prevalent in the acid sulfate soil.
