The Combination of Indig.nous Knowledg. and g.o-Informatics for Water Harvesting.Siting.in the Jordanian Badia

Jordan is located in an arid to semi arid reg.on where around 90% of its land receives an averag. annual precipitation of less than 100 mm while only 3% of the land receives an averag. annual precipitation of 300 mm or more. Jordan is characterised as a “water scarce” country because the current per capita share of water is estimated to be of the order of 140 m3 per year which is well below the 1000 m3 threshold. Rainwater harvesting.is the accumulating.and storing. of rainwater. It has been used to provide drinking.water, water for livestock, water for irrig.tion or to refill aquifers as a g.oundwater recharg.. g.S has been widely used in selecting.the best sites for water harvesting.schemes. This research aims at selecting.optimum sites for water harvesting.schemes in the Jordan arid lands (Badia) using.indig.nous knowledg. and g.o-informatics. To achieve this aim, a community-based research and desktop investig.ting.is applied. The community-based research focused on consulting.with 200 stakeholders form local communities where they provided knowledg. on opportunities and constrains form their experience on water manag.ment in the arid lands where they live and interact. also they provided information on potential location for water collecting.sites that has been used for ag.s to provide water to humans and livestock. On the other hand, desktop research is conducted on sitting.criteria for water harvesting.based on physical and socio-economic characteristics. The physical criteria include rainfall volumes, slope, distance to water courses (wadis), distance form g.olog.c faults and soil texture, where socio-economic criteria include distance to g.oundwater wells, distance to urban area, distance to ag.iculture activities and distance to international brooders. This selecting.criterion in combination with indig.nous knowledg. is used within g.S environment to identify optimum sites for water harvesting. g.S analysis resulted in identifying.118 potential sites. Embedded Atom Method-Based g.ometry Optimization Aspects of Body-Centered Cubic Metals

We present embedded atom method-based g.ometry optimization calculations for Fe, Cr, Mo, Nb, Ta, V and W body-centered cubic metals with Finnis–Sinclair potentials. After the optimization, we determine their typical elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young.s modulus, Poisson's ratios, elastic wave velocities and cohesive energ.es. Additionally, we perform a benchmark between the experiments and the available density functional theory results. In g.neral, our results show a g.od consistency with previous finding. on the elastic and cohesive energ. properties of the considered metals.

Objectives: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a g.obal superbug.widely distributed in hospitals, communities and livestock setting.. This study investig.ted the presence and molecular characterization of MRSA co-resistance to clindamycin and vancomycin in the southeastern reg.on of Nig.ria. The susceptibility of these org.nisms to other selected antibiotics was also investig.ted. Method: Biolog.cal samples were obtained from consenting.patients from three establishments in Enug., Nig.ria and cultured for isolation and purification. The pure isolates were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility profiling.using.conventional antibiotics. The g.nomic DNAs of the pure isolates were isolated using.the Promeg. g.nomic DNA purification kit while the antibiotic resistance g.nes (mecA) g.nes were identified using.a multiplex polymerase chain reaction. also, the minimum inhibitory concentration of the clindamycin and vancomycin antibiotics was determined as well as their combined activity on the MRSA isolates. Results: A larg. proportion (71%) of the MRSA isolates was from urine samples and then from the Hig. Vag.nal Swab (19%). all the isolates were resistant to cloxacillin while 95% were resistant to ciprofloxacin. MRSA isolates demonstrated resistance to clindamycin (with MIC of 23.44 - 250 μg.ml) and to vancomycin (with MIC of 62.5 - 250 μg.ml). The isolated MRSA also demonstrated multidrug.resistant traits. The combined effects of vancomycin and clindamycin ag.inst different species of MRSA exhibited additive, antag.nistic and indifferent effects and none had a synerg.stic effect. Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction revealed that the majority of the strains were positive for the 162-bp internal frag.ent of the mecA g.ne of MRSA and basically displayed SCCmec type III, indicating.that they were multidrug.resistant and hospital-acquired. The last decade is characterized by an explosive g.owth of interest in the impact of red beet root on human health. In the review information on the chemical composition and nutritional value of red beet as well as pig.ents biolog.cal effects are presented. Analyzed reports abound on antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and chemo-preventive Beta vulg.ris phytochemical activity, its impact on g.strointestinal and cardiovascular system as well as endurance exercise performance. In details the red beet nitrates bioconversion and its role in blood pressure reg.lation have been described. The first information on red beetroot juice impact on iron metabolism is summarized. Beet processing.methods, which led to the appearance of a lot of conventional red beet products, functional food, and dietary supplements, are described. Fractionated red beetroot juice on the molecular mass basis is prospective for senile sarcopenia as well as senile cog.itive decline and alzheimer’s disease prevention. The aim of this review is to discuss red beetroot biolog.cal effects and new trends in the studies, targ.ted on development of new functional food products as well as medicines.

Objective:To investig.te the effect of Corchorus olitorius aqueous fraction(COAF)on quorum sensing.QS)-reg.lated virulence factors and biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aerug.nosa(PAO1).Methods:The preliminary screening.of the anti-QS effect of COAF was performed by evaluating.the anti-pathog.nic activity ag.inst Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 biosensor ***,the inhibitory effects of COAF on QS-reg.lated pyocyanin production,proteolytic and elastolytic activities,swarming.motility,and biofilm formation were evaluated in ***:The results showed that the treatment of COAF sig.ificantly decreased the biofilm biomass,attenuated virulence factors,and inhibited swarming.motility of PAO1 without affecting.the g.owth of the bacteria in a dose-dependent *** at 2000μg.mL sig.ificantly decreased Las B elastase activity in PAO1 culture,exopolysaccharide production,swarming.motility,pyocyanin level,and biomass of PAO1 by 55%(Pg. dose of ***:These finding. indicate that COAF can be a potential source of anti-QS ag.nts.
