Overprint of neotectonism along the course of River Chel,North Bengal,India

This paper aims to unveit neotectonic imprints in topography, drainage and sediments in the 46.25 km tong course of the River Chet from its source down to its attuvial fan at the base of the Himatayan Mountain Front in the Darjeeting-Jatpaiguri districts of India. A semi-circutar ridge detimits its primary catchment. Within confinement of this watershed basin the drainage pattern is composite being convergent atong the periphery and divergent on a butte inside. AtE these geomorphic neotectonic imprints are accom- panied by ramp and fiat structures and spectacutar mytonitization of rocks. High hypsometric index and convex shape of the hypsometric curve derived from the centrat near-straight course of the river between the primary catchment and the Main Frontat Thrust （MFT） atso reftects tectonic youthfutness of the river course. It is wett manifested atso in widety variabte stream index and stream gradient index ratios （SL/K） often exceeding 2. In response to neotectonism, this river course as a whore shifted westward between 1962 and 2007. Maximum reduction of the stream gradient on top of the MFT is etoquent enough about recent uptift of the thrust ridge. The high average stope gradient of canyon watt about 45.68° is wett consistent with this uptift. Very tow channet-width/vaUey-height ratio along the river further corroborates the uptift. The attuviat fan system of the River Chet is comprised of five morphogenetic fans stacked one above another with a tendency to shrink and shift progressively upstope. They differ from each other in terms of titt, axiat orientation, primary depositionat surface gradient and convexity in transverse section and thus present a writ of ongoing tectonism. Progressive upward increase in the share of distat crystattine rocks in ctast composition within attuviat fan package is a dear proxy for southerty advancement of the MFT. Concomitant increase in maximum ctast size is in good agreement with sediment source uptift. Art the five fans

Dual-Core Photonic Crystal Fiber Plasmonic Refractive Index Sensor: A Numerical Analysis

A numerical analysis on dual core photonic crystal fiber (DC-PCF) based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) refractive index sensor is presented. The guiding parameters and required sensing performances are examined with finite element method (FEM) based software under MATLAB environment. According to simulation, it is warranted that the proposed refractive index sensor offers the maximum amplitude sensitivity of 554.9 refractive index unit (RIU-1) and 636.5 RIU 1 with the maximum wavelength sensitivity of 5800nm/RIU and 11 500nm/RIU, and the sensor resolutions of 1.72 ×10^-5RIU and 8.7× 10^-6 RIU, at analyte refractive index (RI) of 1.40 for x- and y-polarized modes, respectively. As the sensing performance in different wavelength ranges is quite high, the proposed sensor can be used in simultaneous detection for different wavelength ranges. Therefore, the proposed device is of a suitable platform for detecting biological, chemical, biochemical, and organic chemical analytes.

Enhanced strength in novel nanocomposites prepared by reinforcing graphene in red soil and fly ash bricks

Low-dimensional nanomaterials such as graphene can be used as a reinforcing agent in building materials to enhance the strength and durability. Common building materials burnt red soil bricks and fly ash bricks were reinforced with various amounts of graphene, and the effect of graphene on the strength of these newly developed nanocomposites was studied. The fly ash brick nanocomposite samples were cured as per their standard curing time, and the burnt red soil brick nanocomposite samples were merely dried in the sun instead of being subjected to the traditional heat treatment for days to achieve sufficient strength. The water absorption ability of the fly ash bricks was also discussed. The compressive strength of all of the graphene-reinforced nanocomposite samples was tested, along with that of some standard (without graphene) composite samples with the same dimensions, to evaluate the effects of the addition of various amounts of graphene on the compressive strength of the bricks.

The influence of particle characteristics on the index void ratios in granular materials

The goal of this paper is to assess the effects of particle and specific gravity characteristics (e.g. shape, size, and specific gravity) on the limiting void ratios emax and emin of granular matter. To assess the effect of specific gravity, two different types of materials—glass beads and natural sands—were used. Particle characteristics such as roundness (R), sphericity (S) regularity (p), the average of R and S, were calculated through image analysis techniques after obtaining high-quality microscope images of individual grains. The German DIN standards were strictly followed to determine the extremities of the void ratio. Exper-imental data were used to investigate the effects of the particle characteristics on the relative density of soils. The results show the significant effect of the mean grain size (D50) on the extreme void ratios of poorly graded glass as well as the significant effect of Cu but negligible effect of Dso on the extreme void ratios of sand. The effect of the specific gravity of the materials was also examined. The results were used to develop models dependent on both particle shape and specific gravity, which were validated by comparison with results of previous studies.

A Hybrid Offline-Online Approach to Adaptive Downlink Resource Allocation Over LTE

Radio resource management mechanisms in current and future wireless networks is expected to face an enormous challenge due to the ever increasing demand for bandwidth and latency sensitive applications on mobile devices. This is because an optimal resource allocation scheme which attempts to multiplex the available bandwidth in order to maximize Quality of service(QoS), will pose an exponential computational burden at eNodeB. In order to minimize such computational overhead, this work proposes a hybrid offline-online resource allocation strategy which effectively allocates all the available resources among flows such that their QoS requirements are satisfied. The flows are firstly classified into priority buckets based on real-time criticality factors. During the offline phase, the scheduler attempts to maintain the system load within a pre-specified safe threshold value by selecting an appropriate number of buckets. This offline selection procedure makes use of supervisory control theory of discrete event systems to synthesize an offline scheduler. Next, we have devised an online resource allocation strategy which runs on top of the offline policy and attempts to minimize the impact of the inherent variability in wireless networks. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling framework is able to provide satisfactory QoS to all end users in most practical scenarios.

Low Temperature Reduction of Graphene Oxide Using Hot-plate for Nanocomposites Applications

A green, easy to reproduce method to obtain thermally reduced graphene oxide （GO） is described, The only requirement is a heating source, like a hot plate, that can reach -225 ℃ without any special setup requirements. Upon addition of graphene oxide, effective reduction could be achieved within 10 s. Starting flake size affects the yield of graphene, final structure and composition. A detailed characterization of the produced graphene using thermal analysis, spectroscopic methods, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy is presented. Application of the produced graphene as a filler to epoxy resin for mechanical reinforcement is also reported. Smaller flakes （Ds0 = 5.7 μm） showed improved ultimate tensile strength, fracture strain and plane strain fracture toughness compared to larger flakes （Ds0 = 47.9 μm） that showed negative effect. Both flake sizes showed a negligible effect on Young＇s modulus.

Bile salt induced solubilization of methylene blue: Study on methylene blue fluorescence properties and molecular mechanics calculation

Methylene blue(MB) is a hydrophobic drug molecule, having importance both as a staining reagent and pharmaceutical agent. MB is strongly fluorescent, with an emission peak at 686 nm(λ_(ex)665 nm). In the study,the possibility of MB as an extrinsic fluorophore to study the micellization behavior of bile salts(BSs) was carried out. Since BSs are drug delivery systems, the solubilization of hydrophobic MB drug molecule by BSs was achieved and the nature of association of MB with BS media, namely sodium cholate(Na C) and sodium deoxycholate(Na DC) was evaluated. Change in the photophysical properties of MB is monitored through fluorescence intensity and fluorescence anisotropy at emission peak, 686 nm of MB. Molecular mechanics calculations were carried out to evaluate the MB–BS association. The estimated heat of formation, ΔH_f values are –625.19 kcal/mol for MB–Na C and –757.48 kcal/mol for MB–Na DC. The photophysical study also revealed that MB reports the step-wise aggregation pattern of BSs media, as an extrinsic fluorescence probe.

Galaxy Interactions in Filaments and Sheets:Effects of the Large-scale Structures Versus the Local Density

Major interactions are known to trigger star formation in galaxies and alter their *** study the major interactions in filaments and sheets using SDSS data to understand the influence of large-scale environments on galaxy *** identify the galaxies in filaments and sheets using the local dimension and also find the major pairs residing in these *** star formation rate(SFR) and color of the interacting galaxies as a function of pair separation are separately analyzed in filaments and *** analysis is repeated for three volume limited samples covering different magnitude *** major pairs residing in the filaments show a significantly higher SFR and bluer color than those residing in the sheets up to the projected pair separation of~50 *** observe a complete reversal of this behavior for both the SFR and color of the galaxy pairs having a projected separation larger than 50 *** earlier studies report that the galaxy pairs align with the filament *** alignment inside filaments indicates anisotropic accretion that may cause these *** do not observe these trends in the brighter galaxy *** pairs in filaments and sheets from the brighter galaxy samples trace relatively denser regions in these *** absence of these trends in the brighter samples may be explained by the dominant effect of the local density over the effects of the large-scale environment.
