black carbon（bC） particles play a unique and important role in earth’s climate *** was measured（in-situ） in the central part of the Indo-Gangetic Plains（IGP） at Varanasi,which is a highly populated and polluted region due to its topography and extensive emission *** annual mean bC mass concentration was 8.92 ± 7.0 μg m-3,with 34%of samples exceeding the average ***,bC was highest during the post-monsoon and winter periods（approximately 18 μg m-3） and lower in the premonsoon/monsoon seasons（approximately 6 μg m-3）.The highest frequency（approximately 46%） observed for bC mass was in the interval from 5 to 10 μg ***,during the post-monsoon season,the most common values（approximately 23%） were between 20 and 25 μg *** nighttime concentrations of bC were approximately twice as much as the daytime values because of lower boundary layer heights at *** Angstrom exponent was significantly positively correlated（0.55） with ground-level bC concentrations,indicating the impact of bC on the columnar aerosol *** estimated mean absorption Angstrom exponent was 1.02 ± 0.08 μg m-3,indicating that the major source of bC was from fossil fuel *** negative correlations between bC mass and meteorological parameters indicate a pronounced effect of atmospheric dynamics on the bC mass in this *** highest mean bC mass concentration（18.1 ± 6.9 μg m-3） as a function of wind speed was under calm wind conditions（38%of the time）.

The guinea pigs were dermally exposed to nickel (Ni), sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and in their combination for 7 and 14 days. The exposure to Ni and SLS produced changes in enzymes and lipid peroxidation in kidney. The exposure to Ni or SLS depicted slight changes while combined exposure to Ni plus SLS exhibited more degenerative changes in kidney. The result of the study suggests that industrial workers and/or populations exposed simultaneously to Ni and SLS produces more damage to kidney.

Motivated by a model of the response of vertically aligned carbon nanotube （VACNT） pillars in uniaxial compression, we consider the deformation of a class of compressible elastic-viscoplastic solids with a hardeningsoftening-hardening variation of flow strength with plastic strain. In previous work （Hutchens et al. 2011） a constitutive relation was presented and used to model the response of VACNT pillars in axisymmetric compression. Subsequently, it was found that due to a programming error the constitutive relation presented in the paper （Hutchens et al. 2011） was not the one actually implemented. In particular, the plastic flow rule actually used did not satisfy plastic normality. Here, we present the constitutive formulation actually implemented in the previous work （Hutchens et al. 2011）. Dynamic, finite deformation, finite element calculations are carried out for uniaxial compression, uniaxial tension and for indentation of a ＂half-space＂ by a conical indenter tip. A sequential buckling-like deformation mode is found in compression when there is plastic non-normality and hardening- softening-hardening. The same material characterization gives rise to a Lfiders band-like deformation mode in ten- sion. When there is a deformation mode with a sharp front along mesh boundaries, the overall stress-strain response contains high frequency oscillations that are a mesh artifact. The responses of non-softening solids are also analyzed and their overall stress-strain behavior and deformation modes are compared with those of hardening-softening- hardening solids. We find that indentation with a sharp indenter tip gives a qualitatively equivalent response for hardening and hardening-softening-hardening solids.

Tuning the Structural and Optical Properties of SILAR-Deposited Cu_2O Films Through Zn Doping

Undoped and Zn-doped Cu2O films were deposited onto glass substrates using successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction（SILAR） technique with different Zn doping levels（0, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 wt%）. The structural,optical, and surface morphological studies were carried out and reported. The structural study revealed that the crystalline quality is gradually enhanced up to 5 wt% of Zn doping level, and then quality begins to degrade for further increase in doping level. Moreover, the preferential orientation changes from（111） to（110） for the highest doping level were examined. Optical study shows that the transmittance（65%） and optical band gap values are maximum（2.41 e V） when the Zn doping level is at 5 wt%. The photoluminescence study confirms the presence of various defects in the Cu2O matrix and also the variation obtained in the optical band gap from the transmittance data. SEM images revealed the annealinginduced changes in the surface morphology of the films.

The effects of disturbance on forest structure and diversity along an altitudinal gradient in the temperate,sub-tropical,and tropical regions of Garhwal Himalaya were *** region was further categorized into undisturbed(UD),mildly disturbed(MD),and highly disturbed(HD)sites on the basis of magnitude of disturbance in these *** UD sites of temperate,sub-tropical and tropical regions,Quercus leucotrichophora,Anogeissus latifolia and Holoptelea integrifolia were the dominant tree species *** highest values of tree density(1028 ind·hm-2)and total basal cover at breast height(31.70 m2 ·hm-2)were recorded for UD site of temperate region,whereas maximum species diversity(3.128)and equitability(14.09)values were observed for HD site of tropical *** structure and composition of the forests were greatly affected by the degree of disturbance.

Objective: To study protein-protein interaction between heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein H(hn RNP H) and Dengue virus(DENV) proteins. Methods: DENV proteins were screened against the host hn RNP H protein, in order to identify the host-viral protein-protein interactions in DENV infected THP-1 cells by co-immunoprecipitation. The co-localization of the interacting proteins was further confirmed by immunofluorescence microscopy. Results: The host protein hn RNP H was found to interact with DENV nonstructural 1 protein and help the virus to multiply in the cell. Conclusions: The non-structural 1 glycoprotein is a key modulator of host immune response and is also involved in viral replication. Therefore, disruption of this key interaction between hn RNP H and DENV nonstructural 1 could be an important therapeutic strategy for management of DENV infection.

Origin of Red Color of the Lower Siwalik Palaeosols:A Micromorphological Approach

Palaeosols associated with fluvial of the Siwalik Group are and lacustrine deposits that occur as thick multiple pedocomplexes. The bright red color of the palaeosol beds has been earlier interpreted as a result of hot and arid palaeoclimate. However, as against this view, our investigations of the bright red palaeosol beds of the Lower Siwaliks suggest that the climate was cool and subhumid, instead of hot and arid during the deposition of these beds. Since cold climate is not very conducive to impart red coloration, further research is needed to explain the cause of these red beds. For this, the micromorphological study of soil thin sections was done which showed the presence of features such as dissolution and recrystallisation of quartz, feldspar and mica, compaction, slickensides, presence of calcite spars, subrounded and cracked nature of quartz grains, microfabric, complex patterns of birefringence fabrics, pigmentary ferric oxides, thick cutans and cementation by calcite. These features indicate that diagenesis took place on a large scale in these sediments. The positive Eh and neutral-alkaline pH of soils also suggest that the conditions were favorable for the formation of diagenetic red beds. During burial diagenesis of sediments, the hydroxides of ferromagnesian minerals got converted into ferric oxide minerals （hematite）. During deep burial diagenesis smectite was converted into illite and the preponderance of illite over smectite with increasing depth of burial also indicates the diagenesis of sediments. Thus, the red color of the Lower Siwalik palaeosols seems to be due mainly to the burial diagenesis of sediments and does not appear to be due to the then prevailing climatic condition.

概述:本病例系一位4个孩子的母亲,30岁,来自印度贫困农村,有明显偏执和精神病史6年。患者的症状和社会功能已经越来越恶化,但家人一直没有带其就医,直到她在命令性幻觉的影响下杀死了自己3个月大的女儿。此后使用抗精神病药物治疗,患者的精神病性症状得到控制,心理社会功能也明显改善。该案例是在社区中未能识别和治疗精神疾病造成诸多负面后果的典型案例之一。该患者在弑婴之前已经有长达6年的显而易见的严重症状,但由于家人缺乏关于精神疾病的常识,当地缺少精神卫生保健资源,加上医疗费用相对昂贵,患者未能得到及时治疗,导致了这起原本可以避免的婴儿惨死案件。要改变上述三个在中低等收入国家的农村贫困地区阻碍治疗的因素,我们必须共同应对这一挑战。任务紧迫!这一因精神疾病未得到治疗所致的弑婴病例为我们敲响了警钟。
