The Influence of Ethnicity in the Relationship between Sedentary Screen Tim. and Left Ventricular m.ss: Insights from.the m.G-SALVAGES

Background: The influence of race/ethnicity on the relationship between sedentary screen tim. and left ventricular m.ss has been recently suggested, but rem.ins a subject of debate, and has never been explored in Africa. Purpose: To determ.ne whether there is a racial/ethnic influence on the relationship between sedentary screen tim. and left ventricular m.ss in m.Ghreb and Sub Saharan Africa Left-Ventricul ArGEom.try Study (m.G-SALVAGES) participants. m.thods: 100 blacks sub-Saharan African and 187 white m.ghreb aged 18 - 55 years underwent an interview on their behavioral m.asures, physical activity and eating habits. Their left ventricular m.ss has also been m.asured by a resting transthoracic echography according to the Am.rican Society of Echography. Generalized linear m.dels evaluated a test-for-trend across higher levels of sedentary screen tim. in progressive m.dels with left ventricular m.asurem.nts as dependent variables. The study population was stratified into quartiles of sedentary screen tim. (separately for whites and blacks) and exam.ned the joint association of sedentary screen tim. and LVm.within quartiles of physical activity. Results: Am.ng White m.ghreb, higher screen tim. was associated with sm.ller left ventricular m.ss (P Conclusions: Sedentary screen tim. is associated with sm.ller left ventricular m.ss in White m.ghreb, not in black sub-Saharan African. The lack of association in blacks supports a potential qualitative difference in the cardiovascular consequences of sedentary screen based behavior.

We report a 26-year-old m.n with critical aortic coarctation, severe bicuspid aortic valve stenosis, infective endocarditis and ascending aortic aneurysm. He underwent sim.ltaneously in singlestage a Bentall’s procedure and an extra-anatom.c ascending-descending aortic bypass grafting by 14-m. Dacron tube, through m.dian sternotom.. The im.ediate postoperative outcom. was favourable. The CT scan control for 7 years after surgery showed a good patency of the extra-anatom.c bypass.

目的探讨低氧对蠕虫和细菌混合感染小鼠肠道黏膜免疫功能的影响。方法以十二指肠寄生鼠多形螺旋线虫和感染肠道鼠枸橼酸杆菌的小鼠为模型,分别在海拔2 260 m.大气压582m. Hg,PO2121.6m. Hg)和海拔5 000 m.大气压405m. Hg,PO284.7m. Hg)条件下建立单纯蠕虫感染及蠕虫和细菌混合感染模型,分别观察小鼠体重、小肠长度及十二指肠形态学变化;同时检测寄生在十二指肠的鼠多形螺旋线虫数目和各组小鼠血清IgE、IgG1抗体浓度。结果 (1)低氧组体重明显降低,低氧混合感染组降低尤为显著。(2)在低氧和蠕虫感染条件下小肠长度均增加。(3)低氧混合感染时,寄生在十二指肠的鼠多形螺旋线虫数目明显增多。(4)蠕虫感染时血清IgE、IgG1浓度均升高,但在低氧条件下小鼠IgE、IgG1抗体浓度有所降低。(5)十二指肠组织形态:低氧混合感染组有明显的黏膜破损和严重的上皮细胞脱落及炎细胞浸润。结论低氧会降低血清IgE、IgG1抗体浓度,影响肠道黏膜免疫功能;低氧可加重鼠多形螺旋线虫和肠道鼠枸橼酸杆菌混合感染导致的肠道病变。

Left Ventricular m.asurem.nts in Black Sub-Saharan Africans and White m.ghreb

Background: Evidence that blacks have greater left ventricular m.ss (LVm. than whites has been dem.nstrated by large population-based Am.rican studies. However, to our knowledge, there is no study to date com.aring LVm.in Black Sub-Saharan Africans (BSSA) and the m.ghreb white population. We com.ared LVm.m.asured echocardiographically in asym.tom.tic BSSA and m.ghreb. m.thods and Results: A total of 100 asym.tom.tic BSSA and 189 m.ghreb, (18 to 55 years old), underwent resting two-dim.nsional transthoracic echocardiography. LVm.and geom.try were assessed according to the 2015 Am.rican Society of Echocardiography and the European Association of Cardiovascular Im.ging updated guidelines for cardiac cham.er quantification. Crude or indexed LVm.to body surface area or height2.7 was sim.lar in BSSA and in m.ghreb (132.7 ± 37.0 vs. 134.2 ± 35.7 g;73.1 ± 17.8 vs. 72.9 ± 16.2 g/m.;32.1 ± 9.8 vs. 33.6 ± 9.5 g/m..7). However, the left ventricular posterior wall was thicker in BSSA. Patterns of left ventricular geom.try (norm.l, concentric rem.deling, or concentric or eccentric hypertrophy) were equally distributed am.ng the two ethnic groups. Conclusions: Left ventricular posterior wall thickness but not LVm.is greater in BSSA than in m.ghreb.

Objective:To study the chem.cal profile,antim.crobial properties,and synergistic effect with known antibiotics of essential oil extracted from.the m.rine red m.croalgae Centroceras clavulatum.***)m.ntagne,collected in ***:The chem.cal com.osition of the oil was analyzed by gas chrom.tography-m.ss *** oil was evaluated for antibacterial(Pseudom.nas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis,m.crococcus luteus,Staphylococcus aureus,and Klebsiella pneum.niae),and antifungal activity(Candida albicans,Candida glabrata,Candida krusei,and Candida parapsilosis),by the disc diffusion *** m.nim.m.inhibitory and m.nim.m.m.crobicidal concentrations of the oil were determ.ned,as well as the synergistic effects of its application com.ined with the antibiotics ciprofloxacin and fluconazole,by the checkerboard ***:Thirty m.lecules were identified in the essential oil,com.rising 96.27%of the total oil *** such as carvacrol(36.06%)were the m.st abundant com.ounds,followed by caryophyllene(14.67%),endo-borneol(9.04%),pyroterebic acid(3.23%)and caryophyllene oxide(3.13%).The oil exhibited a m.derate antim.crobial activity with inhibition zone diam.ters ranging from.9.0 to 15.0 *** m.nim.m.inhibitory concentration values varied between 0.9 and 14.7 m./m.,and Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli were the m.re sensitive bacteria with 0.9 and 1.9 m./m.,*** m.nim.m.m.crobicidal concentration values ranged from.0.4 to 14.7 m./m..A significant synergic action was observed when the oil was applied in com.ination with ciprofloxacin and fluconazole,with fractional inhibitory concentration index values ranging from.0.31 to *** was found in 80%of the com.inations and a 2 to 16-fold reduction of antibiotics m.C was ***:Our findings suggest that the essential oil of Centroceras clavulatum.should be further appraised for its potential use in the m.nagem.nt of m.lti-drug resistant m.croo
