Emotional Distress and Metabolic Control in Diabetic Patients Attending Primary Health Care in the Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia

Background:Recognition and treatment of emotional distress,which affects 20 to 40%of outpatients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes,are important because of its association with worse diabetes self-care,poor glycemic control,increased rates of mortality and diabetes-related complications,and a rise in healthcare ***,although the symptoms of emotional distress improve in diabetic patients after psychological and pharmacological interventions,evidence of benefits in glycemic control is still ***:The aim of this study was to assess the metabolic control in diabetic patients with emotional distress attending primary mental care clinics(PMCC)in the Eastern Province of Saudi ***:This study was a single group pretest-posttest design conducted on adult diabetic patients with emotional distress attending *** of 194 attendees,62 patients who fulfilled the selection criteria were *** were collected from the patients’records using a worksheet designed for the *** parameters including BMI,BP,FBS,HbA1c and lipid profile were recorded before and after the management of emotional ***-demographic characteristics,complications related to diabetes and co-morbidities were also *** t-test was used appropriately to compare continuous variables.A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant in all statistical ***:The majority of the patients had type 2 DM(98.2%)and the presence of co-morbidities was high(83.9%).A comparison of the metabolic parameters before and after management of emotional distress,showed a significant reduction in HbA1c(p=0.020)and elevation in HDL(p=0.010).No differences in BMI,BP,FBS,TC,TG or LDL were ***:Treating emotional distress in diabetic patients is associated with an improvement in HbA1c and HDL.

BACKGROUND Leishmaniasis is a neglected zoonotic disease,endemic in *** this disease is very important to inform the health care policymakers and the governments to apply proper health and economic *** To find out the frequency and distribution of human leishmaniasis based on sex and age for 5 years in the West Kordofan state,*** A 5-year retrospective study from 2016 through 2020 was carried out using local hospital records of leishmaniasis *** positive results were recorded after performing at least one of the following leishmaniasis standard tests:direct agglutination test,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and leishmania skin *** sex and age of each patient were *** collected data were analyzed using STATA package version *** A total of 162443 patient records from 2016 to 2020 were *** these,4.39%were found to be positive for *** disease has been more common in males(65.3%)than in females(34.7%).The highest reported prevalence(6.58%)was in patients 15-44 years,and the lowest prevalence(1.95%)was among patients≥65 *** The results of the current study indicate that leishmaniasis is endemic in the study area even though the numbers of patients in the 5 consecutive years were *** addition,the disease was common in males and *** interpretation of these findings should take into consideration the absence of information about some important confounding factors.

Low-voltage ride-through capability improvement of Type-3 wind turbine through active disturbance rejection feedback control-based dynamic voltage restorer

Disconnections due to voltage drops in the grid cannot be permitted if wind turbines(WTs)contribute significantly to electricity pro-duction,as this increases the risk of production loss and destabilizes the *** mitigate the negative effects of these occurrences,WTs must be able to ride through the low-voltage conditions and inject reactive current to provide dynamic voltage *** paper investigates the low-voltage ride-through(LVRT)capability enhancement of a Type-3 WT utilizing a dynamic voltage restorer(DVR).During the grid voltage drop,the DVR quickly injects a compensating voltage to keep the stator voltage *** paper proposes an active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)scheme to control the rotor-side,grid-side and DVR-side converters in a wind–DVR integrated *** performance of the Type-3 WT with DVR topology is evaluated under various test conditions using MATLAB®/Simulink®.These simulation results are also compared with the experimental results for the LVRT capability performed on a WT emulator equipped with a crowbar and direct current(DC)*** simulation results demonstrate a favourable transient and steady-state response of the Type-3 wind turbine quantities defined by the LVRT codes,as well as improved reactive power support under balanced fault *** the most severe voltage drop of 95%,the stator currents,rotor currents and DC bus voltage are 1.25 pu,1.40 pu and 1.09 UDC,respectively,conforming to the values of the LVRT *** controlled by the ADRC technique significantly increases the LVRT capabilities of a Type-3 doubly-fed induction generator-based WT under symmetrical voltage dip *** setting up ADRC controllers might be challenging,the proposed method has been shown to be extremely effective in reducing all kinds of internal and external disturbances.

Developing a multi-label tinyML machine learning model for an active and optimized greenhouse microclimate control from multivariate sensed data

In the uncertainties within which the worldwide food security lies nowadays,the agricultural industry is raising a crucial need for being equipped with the state-of-the-art technologies for a more efficient,climate-resilient and sustainable *** traditional production methods have to be revisited,and opportunities should be given for the innovative solutions henceforth brought by big data analytics,cloud computing and internet of things(IoT).In this context,we develop an optimized tinyML-oriented model for an active machine learningbased greenhouse microclimate management to be integrated in an on-field *** design an experimental strawberry greenhouse from which we collect multivariate climate data through installed *** obtained values'combinations are labeled according to a five-action multi-label control strategy,then used to prepare a machine learning-ready *** dataset is used to train and five-fold cross-validate 90 Multi-Layer Perceptrons(MLPs)with varied hyperparameters to select the most performant–yet optimized–model instance for the addressed *** multi-label control approach enables designing highly scalable models with reduced computational complexity,comprising only n control neurons instead of(1+∑n k=1Cn k)neurons(usually generated from a classic single-label approach from n input variables).Our final selected model incorporates 2 hidden layers with 7 and 8 neurons respectively and 151 parameters;it scored a mean accuracy of 97%during the cross-validation phase,then 96%on our supplementary test *** model enables an intelligent and autonomous greenhouse management with the less required *** can be efficiently deployed in microcontrollers within real world operating conditions.

Falkner-Skan aspects are revealed numerically for a non-homogeneous hybrid mixture of 50%ethylene glycol-50%water,silver nanomaterials Ag,and molybdenum disul-fide nanoparticles MoS2 during its motion over a static wedge surface in a DarcyForchheimer porous medium by employing the modified Buongiorno *** Brownian and thermophoresis mechanisms are included implicitly along with the thermophysical properties of each phase via the mixture theory and some efficient phenomenological *** present simulation also accounts for the impacts of nonlinear radiative heat flux,magnetic forces,and Joule ***,the generalized differential quadrature method and Newton-Raphson technique are applied successfully for solving the resulting nonlinear boundary layer *** a limiting case,the obtained findings are validated accurately with the existing literature *** behaviors of velocity,temperature,and nanoparticles volume fraction are discussed comprehensively against various governing *** crucial results,it is revealed that the temperature is enhanced due to magnetic field,linear porosity,radiative heat flux,Brownian motion,thermophoresis,and Joule heating ***,it is depicted that the hybrid nanoliquids present a higher heat flux rate than the monotype nanoliquids and liquids ***,the surface frictional impact is minimized via the linear porosity ***,the surface heat transfer rate receives a prominent improvement due to the radiative heat flux inclusion.

AIM To assess the association of inter-ethnic vs intra-ethnic marriage with severity of coronary artery disease(CAD) in men undergoing *** We conducted a prospective multicenter,multi-ethnic,cross sectional observational study at five hospitals in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates,in which we used logistic regression analysis with and without adjustment for baseline differences. RESULTS Data were collected for 1068 enrolled patients undergoing coronary angiography for clinical indications during the period of April 1^(st),2013 to March 30^(th),2014. Ethnicities of spouses were available only for male patients. Of those enrolled,687 were married men and constituted the cohort for the present analysis. Intra-ethnic marriages were reported in 70% and inter-ethnic marriages in 30%. After adjusting for baseline differences,interethnic marriage was associated with lower odds of having significant CAD [adjusted odds ratio 0.52(95%CI:0.33,0.81)] or multi-vessel disease(MVD) [adjusted odds ratio 0.57(95%CI:0.37,0.86)]. The adjusted association with left main disease showed a similar trend,but was not statistically significant [adjusted odds ratio 0.74(95%CI:0.41,1.32)]. The association between interethnic marriage and the presence of significant CAD and MVD was not modified by number of concurrent wives(P interaction > 0.05 for both).CONCLUSION Among married men undergoing coronary angiography,inter-ethnic,as compared to intra-ethnic,marriage is associated with lower odds of significant CAD and MVD.

Population Dynamic of Olive Pit Scale,Pollinia pollini Costa(Hemiptera:Asterolecanidae)on Two Olive Cultivars in North Region of Jordan

Olive tree,Olea europaea L.,is considered the most important tree in *** olive pit scale,Pollinia pollini Costa(Hemiptera:Asterolecanidae)has become a destructive threat to some olive groves in Jordan.A field study was conducted in an olive grove located in Northern Jordan during the growing season of 2015 to determine the population dynamics of this pest on two olive cultivars:Grossidi and Nebali Baladi,grown under rain-fed *** twigs were randomly sampled from the periphery of the canopy on each experimental tree at on month intervals throughout the entire *** sample was inspected thoroughly under a dissecting microscope in the laboratory for the presence of the immature and mature pit scale *** Grossidi olive cultivar was significantly more susceptible to *** than Nebali Baladi,as indicated by the development of higher populations throughout the *** was strong evidence that *** overwintered as *** generations were recorded per *** first generation occurred in February and March,followed by others from May to June and from August to November,*** first two generations were significantly larger than the third *** on these observations,the greatest abundance of crawlers occurs in mid-March and mid-May,and therefore,application of insecticides is recommended during this period of time,since crawlers lack a waxy covering on their body and thus facilitates the chemical penetration through the cuticle,making them more susceptible to ***,farmers are encouraged to cultivate the native Nebali Baladi cultivar rather than the more susceptible,introduced Grossidi cultivar in areas subject to heavy infestation.

For many years,ultrasound was thought to have no indications in pulmonary imaging because lungs are filled with air,creating no acoustic mismatch,as encountered by ultrasound wave *** ultrasound(LUS)was started in adult critical care settings to detect pleural effusion and acquired more indications over *** the neonatal intensive care unit(NICU),the use of chest ultrasound has gained more attention during the last two *** a radiation-free,bedside,rapid,and handy tool,LUS started to replace chest X-rays in *** LUS depends upon understanding the nature of normal lungs and the changes induced by different *** the help of LUS,an experienced neonatologist can detect many of the respiratory problems so fast that interventional therapy can be introduced as early as *** can diagnose pleural effusion,pneumothorax,pneumonia,transient tachypnoea of the newborn,respiratory distress syndrome,pulmonary atelectasis,meconium aspiration syndrome,bronchopulmonary dysplasia,and some other disorders with very high *** will be helpful in initial diagnosis,follow-up,and predicting the need for further procedures such as mechanical ventilation,diuretic therapy,surfactant therapy,*** are some limitations to using LUS in some respiratory disorders such as bullae,interstitial emphysema,and other *** review will highlight the importance of LUS,its uses,and limitations.

Dental pulp stem cells: Novel cell-based and cell-free therapy for peripheral nerve repair

The regeneration of peripheral nerves comprises complicated steps involving a set of cellular and molecular events in distal nerve stumps with axonal sprouting and remyelination. Stem cell isolation and expansion for peripheral nerve repair(PNR) can be achieved using a wide diversity of prenatal and adult tissues, such as bone marrow or brain tissues. The ability to obtain stem cells for cell-based therapy(CBT) is limited due to donor site morbidity and the invasive nature of the harvesting process. Dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs) can be relatively and simply isolated from the dental pulps of permanent teeth, extracted for surgical or orthodontic reasons. DPSCs are of neural crest origin with an outstanding ability to differentiate into multiple cell lineages. They have better potential to differentiate into neural and glial cells than other stem cell sources through the expression and secretion of certain markers and a range of neurotropic factors;thus, they should be considered a good choice for PNR using CBT. In addition,these cells have paracrine effects through the secretion of neurotrophic growth factors and extracellular vesicles, which can enhance axonal growth and remyelination by decreasing the number of dying cells and activating local inhabitant stem cell populations, thereby revitalizing dormant or blocked cells,modulating the immune system and regulating inflammatory responses. The use of DPSC-derived secretomes holds great promise for controllable and manageable therapy for peripheral nerve injury. In this review, up-to-date information about the neurotrophic and neurogenic properties of DPSCs and their secretomes is provided.
