Short circuit analysis of a fault-tolerant current-limiting high temperature superconducting transformer in a power system in presence of distributed generations

Power transformers are key elements for the safe and reliable delivery of electrical energy generated by renewable energy resources to consumers via transmission ***‐tolerant current‐limiting High Temperature Superconducting(FTCL HTS)transformers are type of superconducting transformers that tolerate fault for seconds and limit the fault current without the threat of burnout or delamination of tapes and deformation of *** this paper,the fault performance of a FTCL HTS transformer in a standard IEEE power system is *** studied transformer is a 50 MVA 132 kV/13.8 kV transformer where both windings are made up of HTS *** understudied power system consists of two microgrids with distributed *** of the power in microgrids is supplied by the upstream grid which is connected to the microgrids through the HTS *** fault scenarios have been considered in this power system,in each one of these scenarios,a fault happens in one of the *** considered fault scenarios have an approximate fault current of 18x to 23x of the rated current in the secondary *** showed that insulated windings in FTCL HTS transformers could substantially reduce the peak temperature of the HTS windings,compared to bare ***,post‐fault loading is imposed on the HTS windings,to observe their performance against the current increase after fault *** this case,for the first scenario of the faults,the FTCL HTS transformer could tolerate 192%of post‐fault overloading,while this number for the second fault scenario is 170%.Finally,the impact of post‐fault loading on the full recovery time was discussed.

Carotenoids are indispensable to plants and critical in human diets. Plastids are the organelles for carotenoid biosynthesis and storage in plant cells. They exist in various types, which include proplastids, etioplasts, chloroplasts, amyloplasts, and chromoplasts. These plastids have dramatic differences in their capacity to synthesize and sequester carotenoids. Clearly, plastids play a central role in governing carotenogenic activity, carotenoid stability, and pigment diversity. Understanding of carotenoid metabolism and accumulation in various plastids expands our view on the multifaceted regulation of carotenogenesis and facilitates our efforts toward developing nutrient-enriched food crops. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the impact of various types of plastids on carotenoid biosynthesis and accumulation, and discuss recent advances in our understanding of the regulatory control of carotenogenesis and metabolic engineering of carotenoids in light of plastid types in plants.

Critical current parameterization of high temperature Superconducting Tapes:A novel approach based on fuzzy logic

In this study a novel method was presented to parameterize the critical current of Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide(YBCO)tapes based on their width,thickness,magnetothermal operational conditions,and the applied *** this purpose,a fuzzy‐logic‐based model was developed that take tapes structures and their operational conditions as inputs to calculate their critical current,as *** results of critical current parame-terization by fuzzy‐logic‐based model showed that the relative error of the proposed model is less than 3%comparing to experimentally acquired ***,the results of presented model was compared to results of semi‐analytical fitting‐based models and fully‐analytical fitting based *** comparisons showed the better performance in terms of accuracy and error of fuzzy logic model over fitting‐based *** last,the results were also compared with the Artificial Neural Network(ANN)‐based parameterization model and Adaptive Nero‐Fuzzy Interference System(ANFIS)‐based parameterization *** proposed method had 6%to 8%higher accuracy and about 47%to 54%lower root mean squared error.

Hot deformation behavior of Fe-29Ni-17Co alloy

Hot compression tests were carried out on a Fe-29Ni-17Co alloy in the temperature range of 900 ℃ to 1200 ℃ and at strain rates of 0.001-1 s-1. Dynamic recrystallization was found responsible for flow softening during hot compression. The flow behavior was successfully analyzed by the hyperbolic sine equation and the corresponding material constants A, n and αwere determined. The value of apparent activation energy was determined as 423 kJ/mol. The peak and steady state strains showed simple power-law dependence on the Zener-Hollomon parameter. The dynamic recrystallization kinetics was analyzed using Avrami equation and the corresponding exponent was determined to be about 2.7. This value, higher than 2 reported in the literatures, is associated with the mechanism of continuous dynamic recrystallization in the studied alloy. The flow curve up to the peak was modeled by the Cingara equation and the strain exponent, c, was determined about 0.85. The higher value of c compared with the value of 0.2 which has been reported for some stainless steels fortified the idea of extended dynamic recovery or continuous dynamic recrystallization in the studied alloy.

Shear behavior and dilatancy of an artificial hard-matrix bimrock: An experimental study focusing on the role of blocky structure

Bimrocks are characterized by their geotechnically significant blocky structure,presenting complex shear *** study investigates the shear behavior and dilatancy of bimrocks featuring a rock-like matrix,such as *** study addresses a gap in current research,which has predominantly examined the shear behavior of soil-matrix bimrocks(bimsoils).Laboratory direct shear tests were performed on idealized models with varying volumetric block proportions(VBPs).The results highlight that blocks exert both positive and negative effects on shear strength,dilation,and block breakage factor(BF),depending on *** indicate 40%and 60%as critical VBPs,revealing distinct shear strength trends within this range,contrary to the dominant downward *** positively impact dilation and BF between 20%and 50%VBP,while negatively affecting them beyond this *** skeleton inherently promotes stable dilatancy under normal stress increments and intensifies stress dependency of shear *** in dilation angle concerning normal stress and VBP suggest the potential for characterizing this factor using equivalent strength and roughness,akin to rockfill *** assessments of equivalent strength revealed positive effects of blocks when VBP was between 30%and 70%.Lastly,the findings indicate that blocks notably impact pre-and post-peak behaviors by reducing shear stiffness and inducing local hardening *** study also discusses the similarities and distinctions in the function of blocks within soil-like and rock-like *** offers new insights into the exact role of blocks in bimrock shear behavior beyond the traditional interpretation through the variation of friction and cohesion.

Effects of Annealing on the Fabrication of Al-TiAl3 Nanocomposites Before and After Accumulative Roll Bonding and Evaluation of Strengthening Mechanisms

The strengthening mechanisms of Al-TiAl_(3) nanocomposite, fabricated using cold roll bonding, annealing, and accumulative roll bonding(ARB) on Al sheets sandwiching with pure Ti powder were investigated in the present study. With annealing at 590 ℃ for 2 h, TiAl_(3) intermetallic compound was formed. After subsequent ARB process up to 5 cycles, final composite consists of ultrafine Al grains of less than 500 nm with TiAl_(3) particles larger than 200 nm. The strength and hardness of the final composite are 2.5 and 3.5 times the initial values, with an ultimate tensile strength of 400 MPa, which is dominated by grain-boundary strengthening due to the ultrafine Al grains, and Orowan strengthening due to the small TiAl_(3) particles. For comparison, an alternative fabrication route of cold roll bonding–ARB–annealing was also studied. This study showed that annealing before ARB is a critical factor in producing an ultrafine grain structure containing TiAl_(3) particles.

Characterization of NbSi_2–Al_2O_3 nanocomposite coatings prepared with plasma spraying mechanically alloyed powders

The present study characterized NbSi2-Al2O3 nanocomposite powders plasma-sprayed on Ti-6Al-4Vsubstrates. The powders were agglomerated to obtain suitable particle sizes for spraying. The agglomerated powders were then plasma-sprayed using atmospheric plasma spraying. The structural transformations of the powders along with the morphological and mechanical changes of the coatings were examined by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and hard- ness testing. The results showed that after plasma spraying, the grain size increased, and the lattice strain decreased. However, the grain size of this compound after spraying was still in the nanometer range. The coating was uniform and exhibited good adhesion to the substrate. The microhardness and fracture toughness of the nanocomposite coating were higher than those of a nanostructured NbSi2 coating.

Applying the spectral stochastic finite element method in multiple-random field RC structures

This paper uses the spectral stochastic finite element method(SSFEM)for analyzing reinforced concrete(RC)beam/slab *** doing so,it presents a new framework to study how the correlation length of a random field(RF)with uncertain parameters will affect modeling uncertainties and reliability *** considers:1)different correlation lengths for uncertainty parameters,and 2)dead and live loads as well as the elasticity moduli of concrete and steel as a multi-dimensional RF in concrete *** show the SSFEM’s efficiency in the study of concrete structures and to evaluate the sensitivity of the correlation length effects in evaluating the reliability,two examples of RC beams and slabs have been *** to the results,the RF correlation length is effective in modeling uncertainties and evaluating reliabilities;the longer the correlation length,the greater the dispersion range of the structure response and the higher the failure probability.
