The effect of finite duration inputs on the dynamics of a system： Proposing a new approach for cancer treatment

In this paper, a principal question regarding the effect of inputs on the characteristics of dynamic systems is discussed. Whether an input implemented only for a limited duration, can change the characteristics of a dynamic system such that the behavior of the free system, after eliminating the input, differs from that before acting the input? In this paper, it is shown that a limited time acted input is not able to change the dynamical properties of a system after its elimination. Regarding the proposed approach, a novel finite duration treatment method is developed for a tumor-immune system. The vaccine therapy is used to change the parameters of the system and the chemotherapy is applied for pushing the system to the domain of attraction of the healthy state. For optimal chemotherapy, an optimal control is used based on state-dependent Riccati equation (SDRE). It is shown that, in spite of eliminating the treatment (therapeutic inputs), the system approaches to healthy state conditions. The present analysis suggests that a proper treatment method must change the dynamics of the cancer instead of only reducing the population of cancer cells.

Natural convection in an open end cavity with a hot inclined wall is simulated based on the lattice Boltzmann method （LBM）. The physics of flow and energy transfer in open end cavities are addressed when the hot wall is inclined. The combination of the two topics （open cavity and inclined walls） is the main novelty of the present study. The effects of the angle of the hot inclined wall on the flow field and heat transfer are thoroughly investigated. The Prandtl number is fixed to 0.71 （air）. The Rayleigh number and the angle of the hot inclined wall are varied in the range of 10^4 to 10^6 and 60° to 85°, respectively. The results are presented for two different aspect ratios, i.e., A = 1 and 2. The results obtained with the LBM are also compared with those of the finite volume method （FVM）. The predicted results of the LBM conform to those of the FVM. The results show that by increasing the angle of the hot inclined wall and the aspect ratio of the cavity, the average Nusselt number decreases. The trend of the local Nusselt number on the inclined wall is also discussed.

Impact Energy of Functionally Graded Steels with Crack Divider Configuration

Functionally graded steels were produced via electroslag remelting process using the primary electrodes of plain carbon and austenitic stainless steels. Charpy impact energy of as-prepared specimens was measured in the form of crack divider. The obtained results show that the impact energy of the specimens depends on the type and the volume fraction of the present phases. Based on the rule of mixtures, a mathematical model, which correlates the impact energy of functionally graded steels to the impact energy of the individual layers through Vickers microhardness of the layers, was presented. A good compatibility between the experimental results and those obtained from the model was observed.

Some 1-（6-chloroquinoxalin-2-yl）-2-[4-（trifluoromethyl）-2,6-dinitrophenyl] hydrazine derivatives have been synthesized via both conventional and microwave assisted organic synthesis（MAOS） methods. The MAOS method is more effective on synthesizing these compounds than the conventional method in regard to the higher chemical yields of products（76%-98%） and the shorter reaction time（1-15 min）.

Recent studies describe a number of difficulties associated with attention deficit in children with reading disabilities. Information about visual-spatial attention mainly arises from studies using event-related potentials (ERPs) during Posner’s spatial cueing paradigm. This study aims to use neurofeedback with a special protocol for treating children with reading disabilities, and moreo-ver, to evaluate visual-spatial attention ability by means of Posner paradigm task and ERPs. The study was conducted in a single subject design in 20 sessions. Participants were 2 male children, aged between 10 - 12 years old, who completed twelve 30-min neurofeedback sessions. Repeated measurements were performed during the baseline, treatment, and post treatment phases. Results showed some improvement in Posner paradigm parameters (correct response, valid and invalid reaction times). Furthermore, grand average ERPs for both of the participants in each of the four conditions (Valid-right, Invalid-right, Valid-left and Invalid-left) were analyzed. The analysis of P3 component showed a reduction in latency, indicating an improvement in the timing of cognitive processes. In addition, the graphs showed a decrease in amplitude level, which meant easier processing than before.

In the present paper, Charpy impact resistance of aluminum-epoxy laminated composites in both crack divider and crack ar-rester configurations has been investigated. In both configurations, an analytical investigation has been carried out to evaluate the effects of layers thickness on impact resistance of the specimens. A model based on fuzzy logic for predicting impact re-sistance of the specimens has been presented. For purpose of building the model, training and testing using experimental re-sults from 126 specimens produced from two basic composites were conducted. The data used for the input data in fuzzy logic models are arranged in a format of 7 input parameters that cover the thickness of layers, the number of layers, the adhesive type, the crack tip configuration, the content of SiC particles, the content of methacrylated butadiene-styrene particles and the number of test trial. According to these input parameters, in the fuzzy logic model, the impact resistance of each specimen was predicted. The training and testing results in the fuzzy logic model have shown a strong potential for predicting impact resis-tance of aluminum-epoxy laminated composites.

Employing Diversity and Similarity Indices to Evaluate Geopedological Soil Mapping in Miyaneh, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran

The geopedological viewpoint attempts to distinguish and introduce the smallest map unit that has the highest levels of homogeneity and uniformity with respect to landform, lithology, and soil, especially if the relationship between geomorphology and soils in the region is well defined. This research intended to investigate the degree of validity generalization of results obtained in the geopedology approach for similar landforms in the Miayneh region of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. For this purpose, soil diversity study was conducted through measuring it in a hierarchical sequence in categories of USDA soil taxonomy and by comparing similar units in the geopedological method through employing pedodiversity and similarity indices. After preparing the initial interpretative map (based on aerial photographs) at a scale of 1:20,000, the HPu211 unit that covered the greatest delineation of study area was selected and 28 soil profiles, about 90 meters apart, were excavated, described, and sampled in this unit. The degree of validity generalization of geopedological results for the mentioned unit was determined by digging 14 other soil profiles in a similar unit, called the validation area, which was located outside of the sample area. Results indicated that the value of Shannon’s diversity index increased from the level of soil order to soil family in both the sample and the generalization areas;however, only at the soil family level were there significant differences between soil diversity in the two areas at the confidence level of 95%. As well as classification of the profiles dug in the generalization area was different from that of the profiles dug in the sample area at the category of soil family. Therefore, it is possible that management generalizability in this method, even at the detailed scale, can satisfy the related needs. Consequently, interpretative or managerial purity of geopedological units must be considered in future research.

Cyclical mastalgia: Prevalence and associated determinants in Hamadan City, Iran

Objective: To assess prevalence of cyclical mastalgia and its main determinants in women who attended in health centers of Hamadan City, ***: This case–control study was conducted on 400 women(case: cyclical mastalgia, n = 240; control: without cyclical mastalgia, n = 160) who attended family planning clinic for routine follow-up in health centers. The cluster sampling was *** was collected by interviewing and using a standardized validated questionnaire. Severity of mastalgia was assessed through using visual analog scaling. Data processing and statistical analysis were performed by using SPSS ***: The results revealed that majority of women(60.0%) experienced cyclical *** of these, 22.5% and 37.5% were mild and moderate-to-severe mastalgia, respectively. No association was revealed in experience of depression and anxiety in mastalgia group. In a multivariable logistic regression model, the increasing age, age of marriage, history of abortion and history of premenstrual syndrome were main determinants of mastalgia, while use of oral contraceptive and regular exercise was associated with lower incidence of ***: Most of women with breast discomfort suffered cyclical mastalgia which severity can be determined by advanced age, age of marriage, history of abortion and history of premenstrual syndrome, but inversely by oral contraceptive use and exercise activity.
