Combination therapy using evening primrose oil and electrical stimulation to improve nerve function following a crush injury of sciatic nerve in male rats

Peripheral nerve injuries with a poor prognosis are *** primrose oil（EPO） has beneficial biological effects and immunomodulatory *** electrical activity plays a major role in neural regeneration,the present study investigated the effects of electrical stimulation（ES）,combined with evening primrose oil（EPO）,on sciatic nerve function after a crush injury in *** anesthetized rats,the sciatic nerve was crushed using small haemostatic forceps followed by ES and/or EPO treatment for 4 *** recovery of the sciatic nerve was assessed using the sciatic functional *** changes of gastrocnemius muscle atrophy were investigated by light *** changes were assessed by the nerve conduction velocity of sciatic *** was used to determine the remyelination of the sciatic nerve following the *** ＋ ES,EPO,and ES obviously improved sciatic nerve function assessed by the sciatic functional index and nerve conduction velocity of the sciatic nerve at 28 days after *** of the peripheral nerve remyelination marker,protein zero（P0）,was increased in the treatment groups at 28 days after *** atrophy severity was decreased significantly while the nerve conduction velocity was increased significantly in rats with sciatic nerve injury in the injury ＋ EPO ＋ ES group than in the EPO or ES *** speaking,the combined use of EPO and ES may produce an improving effect on the function of sciatic nerves injured by a *** increased expression of P0 may have contributed to improving the functional effects of combination therapy with EPO and ES as well as the electrophysiological and histopathological features of the injured peripheral nerve.

Surgical Management of Obstructive Urolithiasis in Small Ruminants by Tube Cystostomy in Chittagong, Bangladesh

The present study was conducted to evaluate minimally invasive tube cystostomy technique in goats and calves suffering from obstructive urolithiasis having intact and ruptured urinary bladder. This clinical study was carried out on 84 clinical cases （61 goats and 23 calves） based on the history, clinical signs and physical examination along with common laboratory techniques at the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University during January 2015-December 2016. Physical parameters like heart rate, respiratory rate, rectal temperature and dehydration status of animals were noted and corrected abnormality before surgery. Some cases had slightly higher haemoglobin （Hb）, packed cell volume （PCV） and uric acid and epithelial casts in urine. The study revealed that abnormal calcium-phosphorus ratio was predisposing the animals to urolithiasis. It was found that young ruminants （3-5 months） were most commonly affected in both species. All affected animals were male in this study, in which calves were not castrated but in goats 95.08% animals were castrated. Rupture of bladder was more common in calves as compared to goats. Postoperatively all cases were administered with broad-spectrum antibiotic, anti-inflammatory agent and caliculolytic agents like ammonium chloride. Tube cystostomy with Foley’s catheter was the most satisfactory technique for the management of obstructive urolithiasis in small ruminants. Postoperative complications were recorded only in four animals and remaining 80 animals had a normal recovery from tube cystostomy. Tube cystostomy is a simple, inexpensive and very effective procedure for the treatment of urolithiasis in ruminants.

Adaptive Distributed Inter Frame Space for IEEE 802.11 MAC Protocol

In this research, an Adaptive Distributed Inter Frame Space (ADIFS) has been proposed for IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The aim of this approach is to improve Quality of Services (QoS) for IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol in single-hop wireless network. The proposed approach is based on traffic type, Collision Rate (CR), Collision Rate Variation (CRV) and Packet Loss Rate. These parameters are used to adjust the DIFS at runtime. The adjusted DIFS is employed to enhance service differentiation at the MAC layer in single-hop wireless networks. The proposed approach contributes to the enhancement of the average QoS for high priority traffic by 32.9% and 33.4% for the 5 and 10 connections, respectively. While the average QoS for the low priority traffic is improved by 14.3% and 18.2% for the 5 and 10 connections, respectively. The results indicate that, the proposed approach contributes in the enhancement of the QoS in wireless network.

Study of the effects of natural toothbrush (<i>Salva-dora persica</i>) in prevention of dental caries and plaque index

Background: Nowadays, though more attention is being paid to oral and dental hygiene all over the world, dental caries and periodontal diseases are increasing daily. We decided to study the effectiveness of natural toothbrush in prevention of dental caries and plaque formation. Methods: This analytic, semi-experimental clinical trial included 390 individuals. Subjects were divided into 3 groups: using natural toothbrush, using artificial toothbrush and using both natural and artificial toothbrush. The plaque index and DMFT was assessed at the beginning of the study until 1 year. ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis, LSD, Paired t-test, chi square, Fisher exact and Mc-Nemar tests were used for data analysis. Results: The plaque index in all three groups showed a mean reduction of 0.71. The mean DMFT in the samples before intervention was 8.38 ± 4.14 and increased to 9.1 ± 4.56. At the end of the study, the lowest plaque index was observed in the group using both the natural and artificial methods. During one year follow-up, the plaque index decreased 1.16, 0.83, and 0.21 degrees in the first, second and third groups. Conclusion: The increase in DMFT in the group that used artificial toothbrush was more than other groups. Thus, use of natural toothbrush leads to a decrease in growth rate of DMFT. Therefore natural toothbrush can be used for the cleaning of teeth and prevention of dental caries.

This paper presents the measurement study of locality-aware Peer-to-Peer solutions on Internet Autonomous System (AS) topology by reducing AS hop count and increase nearby source nodes in P2P applications. We evaluate the performance of topology-aware BT system called TopBT with BitTorrent (BT) by constructing AS graph and measure the hops between nodes to observe the impact of quality of service in P2P applications.

The Burden of Diabetes in a Developing Country

Introduction: People with diabetes often develop diverse microvascular, macrovascular, and neuropathic complications. Diabetes named high disease because of its high prevalence, high incidence, chronicity and high costs. Accurate projections of diabetes burden are essential for health planning so the aim of this study was to calculate the burden of diabetes in Razavikhorasan population, in Iran. Methodology: We used Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) index using computer model (DisMod) for assessment of burden of diabetes and complications in Razavikhorasan province in Iran in year 2010-2011. Results: Burden of diabetes in Razavikhorasan population was 64,733 DALY in year 2010-2011. The total Years Life Lost (YLL) from diabetes mellitus was 62,883 (34,216 in men and 28,667 in women) due to premature death and the total Years Life Disability (YLD) was 1850. Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus and lesser forms of glucose intolerance can now be found in almost every population and epidemiological evidences suggest that, without effective prevention and control programs, diabetes will continue to increase and therefore advances in all levels of prevention may help reduce the number of people with diabetes.

Food Habits and Helminth Parasites of Skittering Frog(Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis)in the Lower Dir,Pakistan

A total of 30 specimens of Skittering frog(Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis),(Anura:Dicroglossidae)were captured from seven selected localities in the Dir Lower,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan from April to August *** were euthanized with the help of Chloroform(CHcl3)*** biometry of each specimen was measured,then dissected to examine for helminth parasites and *** helminths were isolated,washed with normal saline at room temperature,and then preserved in 70%GL ethyl *** on,the parasites were classified and studied under the electric compound *** a total of 30 specimens,17(56.66%)were found infected with 62 helminths parasites belongs to four different *** four species,one was Cestodes Nematotaenia dispar species and remaining three were Nematodes *** species,Cosmocercoides(Raillietnema species)and Strongyloides *** with a percentage of 56.45%was the most *** the total of 30 specimens’alimentary canal,10 were found empty,containing nothing while in remaining 20 were full of 9 types of food materials which included insects ***,Beetles,Wasps,Spiders,Mosquito larvae and cockroaches,and non-living things like stone pebbles and mollusks *** the serial,flies and snails were in the lowest prevalence and ants were recorded the most important component of the frog *** the insects,ants have occurred in higher prevalence 44.50%and flies 1.15%with the lowest *** results emphasize the significance of further expected studies in the Dir Lower to get a good understanding of the helminth parasites with the ecological relations of their hosts.

The Effect of Infestation by the Confused Flour Beetle （Tribolium Confusum Duv.） on Specifications of Wheat Flour

The objective of this research is to investigate the impact of infestation by the confused flour beetle Tribolium confusum on the specification of flour and its product. The results of this work showed that infestation by the confused flour beetle with 5 pairs of adult stage and its progeny within 3 months period may cause high deterioration and damaged of the flour specification. The people in lraq get their flour from some official and non-official mills which they produce not so good quality of this flour in addition to which it contains some times an infestation with the two species of the flour beetles T. castaneum and T. confusum, when people do not use this quantity as quickly as possible during this period of storage, the beetles will be increased in numbers and make the flour unacceptable for any kind of pastes or bread. The infestation by this beetle causes great pollution to the flour by the ecdysial of larvae and a bad smell that it leaves on the flour and all its products.

Marigold: From Mandap to Medicine and from Ornamentation to Remediation

Importance of medicinal plants to health care has been great and herbal preparations are being produced at industrial scale particularly in developing countries. The plant products obtained have a long history of use in therapeutics, aromatherapy and food depending on the chemical constituents and their bioactivity. In the recent past, marigolds have received a great attention in scientific research, because of their multiple use and also the information available about their phytochemistry and bioactivity. Tagetes species commonly known as marigold is native to Mexico, being used for medicinal and ornamental purposes. The plant is useful due to its unique phytoconstituents for a range of diseases and disorders and is reportedly effective against piles, kidney troubles, muscular pain, ulcers and wound healing and the flowers are helpful in fever, stomach and liver complaints and also in eye diseases. In India, marigold is also extensively used on religious and social occasions such as in the beautification of mandaps and pooja places;offerings at temples;marriage decorations and landscape planning due to variable size and colour of its flower. Present review is an effort to bring together the different strategies developed for the growth and cultivation of marigold, its ecophysiological and remediation relevance under a variety of environmental conditions and possible allelopathic potential. It includes reports on pharmacological aspects like antibacterial, antifungal, larvicidal, hepatoprotective, insecticidal, mosquitocidal, nematicidal, wound healing, antioxidant, anticancer and antidiabetic properties/activity of Tagetes.

Synthesis and Characterisation of Colorants Derived from 1,4-Diamino Anthraquinone Polyamides

In this study, the polycondensation products of a diamine anthraquinone (1,4-diamino anthraquinone) and some aliphatic diacids with different methylene numbers were synthesised. Their UV-visible spectroscopy and thermal properties were then characterised. The synthesis was achieved by reacting equimolar solutions of the amine and the acid halides. The structure and thermal properties of the products were characterised. FT-IR Spectra of all the three products revealed the formation of amide due to the presence of strong bands at 1565 and 3390 cm?1 assignable to C=O stretching and N-H vibrations. Differential Scanning Calorimetry revealed high melting exotherms for the products. Thermogravimetry revealed moderate thermal stabilities for Poly NAM and Poly NAS and low thermal stability for Poly NAA which indicated 5.9%, 7.1% and 61.2% weight losses at 285℃, 285℃ and 374℃ for the three products respectively. The wavelengths of maximum absorbance for the dye samples are 601.5, 591 and 589 nm respectively with absorptivity coefficients (a1cm1% ) of 11640000, 11610000 and 11560000 respectively.
