A fuzzy logic model to predict the out-of-seam dilution in longwall mining

The longwall mining method is often affected by the out-of-seam dilution(OSD). Therefore, predicting and controlling of dilution are important factors for reducing mining costs. In this study, the fuzzy set theory and multiple regression models with parameters, including variation in seam thickness, dip of seam, seam thickness, depth of seam, and hydraulic radius as inputs to the models were applied to predict the OSD in the longwall coal panels. Field data obtained from Kerman and Tabas coal mines, Iran were used to develop and validate the models. Three indices including coefficient of determination(R2), root mean square error(RMSE) and variance account for(VAF) were used to evaluate the performance of the models. With 10 randomly selected datasets, for the linear, polynomial, power, exponential,and fuzzy logic models, R2, RSME and VAF are equal to(0.85, 4.4, 84.4),(0.61, 7.5, 59.6),(0.84, 4.5, 72.7),(0.80, 4.1, 79.6), and(0.97, 2.1, 95.7), respectively. The obtained results indicate that the fuzzy logic model predictor with R2= 0.97, RMSE = 2.1, and VAF = 95.7 performs better than the other models.

Delayed Pseudoaneurysms of Vertebral Artery Post Penetrating Trauma: A Case Report

Objective: Vascular injuries usually present immediately after the penetration, but the delayed onset of vascular symptoms caused by vessel dissection or aneurysm after a traumatic event is extremely rare. Vertebral artery injury is a low-frequency but high-mortality injury. We aim to report evidence of delayed onset of vascular symptoms following penetrating trauma in the neck. Materials and Methods: A case report. Results: A 19-year-old boy was referred to our hospital and complained of a mass in the right part of his neck (right mandibular angle). He gave a history of penetrating trauma to his neck 2 months ago. The mass was expanding during these 2 months and doesn’t respond to antibiotic therapy. In the examination, 3 × 3 cm, firm, nonmobile, and without tenderness and pain mass was palpated in the second level of his neck. Doctors ordered a Doppler sonography in the hospital where a yin-yang pattern was reported. A 36 × 43 × 40 mm heterogeneous, solid, and hypodense area close to C1-C2-C3 with vascular flow was discovered in the right submandibular area after computed tomography (CT)-angiography. The patient was referred to an interventional neurologist for angiography and due to the lack of flow at the distal of the V3 segment, he decided to sacrifice this artery by two coils. Conclusion: Penetrating neck injuries are usually asymptomatic, but these injuries are often accompanied by hemorrhage, neurological symptoms, dysphagia, odynophagia, and windpipe. Penetrating lesions of the vertebral artery are rare and very difficult to diagnose. Also, these lesions are challenging for surgeons due to complex anatomy and difficult surgical exposure. So, endovascular treatment was used to treat the patient.

Simultaneous investigation of blast induced ground vibration and airblast effects on safety level of structures and human in surface blasting

The significance of studying, monitoring and predicting blast induced vibration and noise level in mining and civil activities is justified in the capability of imposing damages, sense of uncertainty due to negative psychological impacts on involved personnel and also judicial complaints of local inhabitants in the nearby area. This paper presents achieved results during an investigation carried out at Sungun Copper Mine, Iran. Besides, the research also studied the significance of blast induced ground vibration and airblast on safety aspects of nearby structures, potential risks, frequency analysis, and human *** to the United States Bureau of Mines(USBM) standard, the attenuation equations were developed using field records. A general frequency analysis and risk evaluation revealed that: 94% of generated frequencies are less than 14 Hz which is within the natural frequency of structures that increases risk of damage. At the end, studies of human response showed destructive effects of the phenomena by ranging between 2.54 and 25.40 mm/s for ground vibrations and by the average value of 110 dB for noise levels which could increase sense of uncertainty among involved employees.

Fault lineaments are the main input data in earthquake engineering and seismology *** study presents a digitally-based active fault map of the Kerman region in central-east Iran which experienced several devastating earthquakes on poorly exposed and/or not identified active *** Landsat 8 data,we have carried out the image-based procedures of fault mapping,which include applying the contrast stretching technique,the principal component analysis,the color composite technique,the spectral rationing,and creating the false-color composite ***,we have cross-checked the resulting map with the geological maps provided by the Geological Survey of Iran to decrease the associated *** resulting map includes 123 fault segments,still,a part of which has been expressed in the previously compiled active-fault maps of ***,the new one is mapping the poorly exposed active faults,so-called secondary faults,which are able to produce strong *** faults are primarily associated with poorly defined areas that accommodate low levels of seismicity;however,sporadic strong events are likely to *** has also been investigated that these kinds of faults are seismogenic and are able to produce destructive *** total,the outcome of this study can also be jointed with seismic studies for investigating parts of the earthquake activity in central-east Iran,in particular for the fault-based approaches in impending earthquake-resistant buildings.

Hydatid Cyst of Para-Spinal Muscles as a Rare Cause of Back Pain in a Woman: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Introduction: Hydatid cyst formation is rare in organs such as muscle, bone and spine. Para-spinal involvement is an uncommon finding with a prevalence of less than 0.5% in the literatures. Presentation of Case: In the present paper, we reported a case of primary hydatid cyst in lumbar para-spinal area. The patient presented with complaint of chronic back pain and swelling in right thoracolumbar area. A suspicious mass was revealed in lumbar spine x-ray presenting as multi-loculated cystic mass on further evaluation by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The patient underwent surgery and the cyst was excised completely. Histopathological evaluations confirmed the hydatid disease. Discussion: Hydatid disease is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus. The parasitic cysts can form in any part of the host body. The liver and lungs are the most commonly involved organs. The occurrence of these lesions in certain areas such as para-spinal muscles is rare. The cystic mass is detected by radiologic modalities and is confirmed by pathologic examination. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Conclusion: Hydatid disease should be on differential diagnosis list facing a cystic lesion in any part of the body especially in the endemic areas. Moreover, radiologic and serologic assessments are important in confirming the diagnosis.
