Population dynamics of Japanese threadfin bream Nemipterus japonicus from Pakistani waters

Japanese threadfin bream Nemipterus japonicus（Bloch, 1791） is among the most abundant and commercially important species in Pakistan. From the coast of Pakistan, four demersal trawl surveys in October–November 2009 and May–June, August, October and November in 2010 were carried out. The purpose of this study is to estimate the population dynamics and status of the stock of the N. japonicus from Pakistani waters based on the research trawl surveys from the research area. The data consist of n=784 length-weight pairs and n=7 530 length frequency with the maximum length and weight of 29 cm and 358 g respectively. The length frequency data were analyzed using ELEFAN method in FiSAT computer package. The parameters of length and weight relationship were b=2.778, a=0.032 and R2=0.973. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth function parameters were L∞=30.45 cm, K=0.270 year-1. Based on length-converted catch curve analysis the total mortality（Z） during this study was estimated at 0.960 year-1. The natural mortality coefficient（M） was 0.74 year-1 using Pauly＇s equation（the annual average sea surface temperature was 27°C）, therefore, the fishing mortality coefficients（F） were 0.22 year-1. The yield per recruit analysis indicated that when tc was 2, Fmax was estimated at 1.2 and F0.1 at 1.1. When tc was 1, Fmax was estimated at 0.95 and F0.1 at 0.8. Because current age at first capture is about 1 year and Fcurrent was 0.22, Fcurrent is smaller than F0.1 and Fmax, which indicated that the fishery is about in a safe condition. When using Gulland（1971） biological reference point, Fopt was equals to M（0.74）. The current fishing mortality rate of 0.22 was smaller than the target biological reference point.

Mass drug administration for lymphatic filariasis elimination in a coastal state of India: a study on barriers to coverage and compliance

Background:Lymphatic filariasis is targeted for elimination in India through mass drug administration(MDA)with diethylcarbamazine(DEC)combined with albendazole(ABZ).For the strategy to be effective,>65%of those living in endemic areas must be covered by and compliant to *** the MDA 2011 campaign in the endemic district of Odisha,we conducted a survey to assess:(i)the filariasis knowledge in the community,(ii)the coverage and compliance of MDA from the community perspective,and(iii)factors affecting compliance,as well as the operational issues involved in carrying out MDA activities from the drug distributor’s ***:A sample of 691 participants-both male and female,aged two years or above-were selected through multistage stratified sampling and interviewed using a semi-structured ***,drug distributors and the medical officers in charge of the MDA were also interviewed to understand some of the operational issues encountered during ***:Ninety-nine percent of the study participants received DEC and ABZ tablets during MDA,of which only just above a quarter actually consumed the *** cause of non-compliance was mostly due to fear of side effects,lack of awareness of the benefits of MDA,and non-attendance of health staff in the *** of adequate training of drug distributors and poor health communication activities before the MDA campaign commenced and the absence of follow-up by health workers following MDA were a few of the operational difficulties encountered during the MDA ***:Currently MDA is restricted to the distribution of drugs only and the key issues of implementation in compliance,health education,managing side effects,and logistics are not given enough *** is therefore essential to address the issues linked to low compliance to make the program more efficient and achieve the goal of filariasis elimination.

Antibacterial Behavior of Laser-Ablated Copper Nanoparticles

Copper nanoparticles（Cu NPs） have been synthesized by using laser ablation method,using deionized water as main *** formation of Cu NPs is confirmed by UV-visible spectrophotometer（UV-Vis）,atomic force microscopy（AFM） and X-ray diffraction（XRD）.Cu NPs fabricated by laser ablation have diameter in the range from 14 to 55 *** analysis revealed the face-centered cubic（fcc） crystal structure of Cu *** antibacterial activity of Cu NPs has been evaluated in vitro against strains of Escherichia coli（***） and Staphylococcus aureus（***）.The fabricated Cu NPs show considerable antibacterial activity against both bacterial *** bacterial activity of Cu NPs was found to depend on the microbial species.

Risk factors for congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction in children under two years of age

·AIM:To identify various risk factors that may play a significant role in the development of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction(CNLDO).·METHODS:This observational case-control study included a case group of 122 children less than two years of age with CNLDO who underwent probing and irrigation treatment at the ophthalmology department of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz,Iran,from June 2022 to June2024.A control group of 122 age-matched children without CNLDO was also included for *** was collected from the children's medical records.·RESULTS:The study found a significant correlation between the occurrence of CNLDO and several maternal factors,such as preeclampsia,the use of levothyroxine,hypothyroidism,having more than three pregnancies(gravidity>3),natural pregnancy,and gestational diabetes ***,in children,factors,such as oxygen therapy,anemia,reflux,jaundice,and a family history of CNLDO in first-degree relatives were associated with CNLDO,and maternal preeclampsia and hypothyroidism were found to significantly increase the risk of developing CNLDO in children.·CONCLUSION:Given that CNLDO affects both premature and full-term children,the present findings may potentially facilitate the early identification of children and infants at risk of nasolacrimal duct obstruction,thereby preventing the onset of chronic dacryocystitis.

Evaluation of immunogenicity and reactogenicity of recombinant DNA hepatitis B vaccine produced in India

AIM：（1） To gain information on immune responses to an accelerated schedule of 0, 1, and 2 mo in paramedical staff and BDS students who are at an increased risk of getting hepatitis B infection and come under high risk groups. （2） To assess the efficacy and safety of En/vac- HB in different age groups, using genetically modified yeast strain Pichia pastoris, a new recombinant hepatitis B accine developed and manufactured in India. METHODS： A prospective, comparative, and single blinded trial of rapid （0, 1, and 2 mo） hepatitis B immunization schedulewas reported. A total of three hundred and seven （212 females and 95 males） healthy volunteers divided into three age groups （18-29, 30-39, and 40-49） were enrolled after screening for markers of hepatitis B. All the volunteers received 20 mg of the vaccine intramuscularly at 0, 1, and 2 mo. RESULTS： Geometric mean titers were calculated pre and post vaccination. Before immunization the GMT was 0.0124 mIU/mL. One month after the administration of the third dose of recombinant vaccine 296/307 （96.5%） subjects achieved seroprotective levels of anti-HBs. The geometric mean anti-HBs titers achieved after one month of the third dose was 2 560.0 mIU/mL. The geometric mean anti-HBs titer of males was 2 029.0 mIU/mL, while that of the females was 2 759.0 mIU/mL. In the age group of 18-29 years, anti-HBs titer was 3 025.0 mIU/ mL, while that in the age group of 30-39 years was 2 096.0 mlU/mL. In third age group of 40-49 years, anti- HBs titer was 1 592.0 mIU/mL. Hyper-responses （anti-HBs≥100 mIU/mL） were shown in 88.0% （271/307） of subjects. Eleven （3.5%） subjects responded poorly to the vaccine in the age group of 40-49 years. There was only mild pain at the site of injection otherwise there were no other adverse drug reactions （ADRs）. CONCLUSION： This vaccine （Enivac-HB） is safe and efficacious, providing significant protection after the third dose and rapid hepatitis B immunization schedule of 0, 1, and 2 mo can be recommended

Efficient Simplification Methods for Generating High Quality LODs of 3D Meshes

Two simplification algorithms are proposed for automatic decimation of polygonal models, and for generating their LODs. Each algorithm orders vertices according to their priority values and then removes them iteratively. For setting the priority value of each vertex, exploiting normal field of its one-ring neighborhood, we introduce a new measure of geometric fidelity that reflects well the local geometric features of the vertex. After a vertex is selected, using other measures of geometric distortion that are based on normal field deviation and distance measure, it is decided which of the edges incident on the vertex is to be collapsed for removing it. The collapsed edge is substituted with a new vertex whose position is found by minimizing the local quadric error measure. A comparison with the state-of-the-art algorithms reveals that the proposed algorithms are simple to implement, are computationally more efficient, generate LODs with better quality, and preserve salient features even after drastic simplification. The methods are useful for applications such as 3D computer games, virtual reality, where focus is on fast running time, reduced memory overhead, and high quality LODs.

Mammogram Enhancement Using Lifting Dyadic Wavelet Transform and Normalized Tsallis Entropy

In this paper, we present a new technique for mammogram enhancement using fast dyadic wavelet transform （FDyWT） based on lifted spline dyadic wavelets and normalized Tsallis entropy. First, a mammogram image is decom- posed into a multiscale hierarchy of low-subband and high-subband images using FDyWT. Then noise is suppressed using normalized Tsallis entropy of the local variance of the modulus of oriented high-subband images. After that, the wavelet coefficients of high-subbands are modified using a non-linear operator and finally the low-subband image at the first scale is modified with power law transformation to suppress background. Though FDyWT is shift-invariant and has better poten- tial for detecting singularities like edges, its performance depends on the choice of dyadic wavclcts. On the other hand, the nulnber of vanishing moments is an important characteristic of dyadic wavelets for singularity analysis because it provides an upper bound measurement for singularity characterization. Using lifting dyadic schemes, we construct lifted spline dyadic wavelets of different degrees with increased number of vanishing moments. We also examine the effect of these wavelets on mammogram enhancement. The method is tested on mammogram images, taken from MIAS （Mammographic Image Analysis Society） database, having various background tissue types and containing different abnormalities. The comparison with tile state-of-the-art contrast enhancement methods reveals that the proposed method performs better and the difference is statistically significant.

An image can be degraded due to many environmental factors like foggy or hazy weather,low light conditions,extra light conditions *** captured under the poor light conditions is generally known as non-uniform illumination ***-uniform illumination hides some important information present in an image during the image capture Also,it degrades the visual quality of image which generates the need for enhancement of such *** techniques have been present in literature for the enhancement of such type of *** this paper,a novel architecture has been proposed for enhancement of poor illumination images which uses radial basis approximations based BEMD(Bi-dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition).The enhancement algorithm is applied on intensity and saturation components of ***,intensity component has been decomposed into various bi-dimensional intrinsic mode function and residue by using sifting ***,some linear transformations techniques have been applied on various bidimensional intrinsic modes obtained and residue and further on joining the transformed modes with residue,enhanced intensity component is *** part of an image is then enhanced in accordance to the enhanced intensity *** enhanced image can be obtained by joining the hue,enhanced intensity and enhanced saturation parts of the given *** proposed algorithm will not only give the visual pleasant image but maintains the naturalness of image also.
