Risk factors for congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction in children under two years of age

·AIM:To identify various risk factors that may play a significant role in the development of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction(CNLDO).·METHODS:This observational case-control study included a case group of 122 children less than two years of age with CNLDO who underwent probing and irrigation treatment at the ophthalmology department of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz,Iran,from June 2022 to June2024.A control group of 122 age-matched children without CNLDO was also included for *** was collected from the children's medical records.·RESULTS:The study found a significant correlation between the occurrence of CNLDO and several maternal factors,such as preeclampsia,the use of levothyroxine,hypothyroidism,having more than three pregnancies(gravidity>3),natural pregnancy,and gestational diabetes ***,in children,factors,such as oxygen therapy,anemia,reflux,jaundice,and a family history of CNLDO in first-degree relatives were associated with CNLDO,and maternal preeclampsia and hypothyroidism were found to significantly increase the risk of developing CNLDO in children.·CONCLUSION:Given that CNLDO affects both premature and full-term children,the present findings may potentially facilitate the early identification of children and infants at risk of nasolacrimal duct obstruction,thereby preventing the onset of chronic dacryocystitis.

Addressing issues of agricultural sustainability and vulnerability to poverty under climate change are major challenges to development in the 21st *** for the trade-off and synergies between off-farm work participation and sustainable land management on one hand,and vulnerability to poverty on the other hand,will therefore be useful to *** this study,we use recent farm household data from Ghana to examine the effect of off-farm work participation on intensity of adoption of sustainable land management (SLM) practices and impact of off-farm work participation on vulnerability to *** employed a bivariate Tobit model to examine the determinants of SLM adoption intensity,and endogenous switching probit model to assess the impact of off-farm work participation on vulnerability to *** results reveal that participation in off-farm is positively and significantly associated with adoption intensity of bunds,and organic *** results also show that off-farm work participation significantly reduces household vulnerability to poverty by 13%.Based on these findings,we conclude that rural development through non-farm work opportunities can lead to positive synergies between sustainable agricultural production,off-farm employment and poverty alleviation.

Photocatalytic and Antibacterial Activities of Ag/ZnO Nanocomposities Fabricated by Co-Precipitation Method

A Ag/ZnO nanocomposite has been synthesized and characterized for investigating its photocatalytic activity. The morphology and particle size of the Ag/ZnO was studied by scanning electron microscope （SEM） and the microstructure of the as-synthesized nanocomposite was confirmed by X-ray diffraction （XRD） analysis. The elemental com- position of the metal oxide was determined by energy dispersion spectrometry （EDS）. Diffuse reflectance spectra （DRS）, Photoluminescence （PL） spectra, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR） were also studied for characterizing the nanocomposite. The average particle size was found to be around 20-30 nm. Photocatalytic activity of Ag/ZnO has been investigated over methyl violet （6B） dye under UV and visible light irradiation. The degradation of methyl violet （6B） dye using ZnO and Ag/ZnO was compared and found that Ag/ZnO composite is more efficient than ZnO. The rate of disappearance of dye was monitored spectrophotometrically in the maximum visible absorption wavelength and the extent of degradation was discussed in terms of Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The Ag/ZnO composite was found capable of degrading the industrial dye effluent. Effect of H202 addition on dye degradation by the Ag/ZnO was investigated and Ag/ ZnO was found to be an effective antimicrobial agent. Reusability of Ag/ZnO catalyst was also tested.

Ultrasonic absorption and velocity measurements were made on aqueous solutions of poly (ethylene glycol)(PEG)of different molecular weights and concentrations, using a pulse sender-receiver ultrasonic generator, Measurements were obtained at a frequency of 2MHz. , and a temperature of 293 K. The results show a linear increase of the Values of velocity, density and viscosity with increase of molecu lar weight and concentration of PEG. On the contrary, the attenuation values decreased with increase of molecular weight and concentration of PEG. A mathematical equation correlating relaxation amplitude and molecular weight of the polymer is suggested. This was applied to calculate the molecular weights of unknown samples of PEG from their measured relaxation amplitude. The results obtained were in good agreement with those obtained from osmometry.

Objective: To induce callus from the medicinally valuable species, Barringtonia racemosa L.(B. racemosa) whereby the formation of callus is essential for micropropagation studies and in vitro plant secondary metabolites ***: The callus induction potential in B. racemosa was assessed from endosperm explant cultured on different culture media and plant hormonal treatments. Lloyd and Mc Cown's woody plant medium and Murashige and Skoog's medium were used in the study as culture media. On the other hand, various concentrations and combinations of2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(1.0–2.0 mg/L) and kinetin(0.5–2.5 mg/L) had been incorporated in the culture media to exert the effects of auxin and cytokinin on callus ***: From the present study, it was found that the profuse [(1.681 ± 0.770) g fresh weight,(0.239 ± 0.239) g dry weight] and friable callus formation was optimally produced with desirable morphology and considerable percentage of callus induction(56.70%) in endosperm explants cultured on 1.0 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 1.5 mg/L kinetin in Murashige and Skoog's ***: A reliable protocol for inducing callus formation of profuse and friable morphology in endosperm explant of B. racemosa had therefore been successfully established.

The tensile properties of Sn-9Zn-xAg-ySb;{(x, y) = (0.2, 0.6), (0.2, 0.8), (0.6, 0.2), (0.8, 0.2)} lead-free solders were investigated. All the test samples were annealed at 150°C for 1 hour. The tests are carried out at room temperature at the strain rate of 4.17 × 10-3 s-1, 20.85 × 10-3 s-1, and 208.5 × 10-3 s-1. It is seen that the tensile strength increases and the ductility decrease with increasing the strain rate over the investigated range. From the strain rate change test results, the strain sensitivity values are found in the range of 0.0831 to 0.1455 due to the addition of different alloying elements.

The participation of distributed energy resources in the load restoration procedure,known as intentional islanding,can significantly improve the distribution system *** system reconfiguration can effectively alter islanding procedure and thus provide an opportunity to supply more demanded energy and reduce distribution system *** addition,high-impact events such as hurricanes and earthquakes may complicate the procedure of load restoration,due to the disconnection of the distribution system from the upstream grid or concurrent component *** paper presents a two-level method for intentional islanding of a reconfigurable distribution system,considering high-impact *** thefirst level,optimal islands are selected according to the graph model of the distribution *** the second level,an optimal power flow(OPF)problem is solved to meet the operation constraints of the islands by reactive power control and demand side *** proposed problem in the first level is solved by a combination of depth first search and particle swarm optimization *** OPF problem in the second level is solved in DIgSILENT *** proposed method is implemented in the IEEE 69-bus test system,and the results show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

This paper addresses the problem of global practical stabilization of discrete-time switched affine systems via statedependent switching *** attempts have been made to solve this problem via different types of a common quadratic Lyapunov function and an *** classical results require either the quadratic Lyapunov function or the employed ellipsoid to be of the centralized *** some cases,the ellipsoids are defined dependently as the level sets of a decentralized Lyapunov *** this paper,we extend the existing results by the simultaneous use of a general decentralized Lyapunov function and a decentralized ellipsoid parameterized *** proposed conditions provide less conservative results than existing works in the sense of the ultimate invariant set of attraction *** different approaches are proposed to extract the ultimate invariant set of attraction with a minimum size,i.e.,a purely numerical method and a numerical-analytical *** the former,both invariant and attractiveness conditions are imposed to extract the final set of matrix *** latter is established on a principle that the attractiveness of a set implies its ***,the stability conditions are derived based on only the attractiveness property as a set of matrix inequalities with a smaller *** examples are presented to prove the satisfactory operation of the proposed stabilization methods.
