Ionotropic receptors mediate olfactory learning and memory in Drosophila

Phenylacetaldehyde(PAH),an aromatic compound,is present in a diverse range of fruits including overripe bananas and prickly pear cactus,the two major host fruits for Drosophila *** acts as a potent ligand for the ionotropic receptor 84a(IR84a)in the adult fruit fly and it is detected by the IR84a/IR8a heterotetrameric *** role in the male courtship behavior through IR84a as an environmental aphrodisiac is of additional *** ***,two distinct kinds of olfactory receptors,that is,odorant receptors(ORs)and ionotropic receptors(IRs),perceive the odorant *** display unique structural,molecular,and functional characteristics in addition to having different evolutionary ***,olfactory cues detected by the ORs such as ethyl acetate,1-butanol,isoamyl acetate,1-octanol,4-methylcyclohexanol,*** as aliphatic esters and alcohols have been employed in olfactory classical conditioning using fruit *** underlines the participation of OR-activated olfactory pathways in learning and memory *** study elucidates that likewise ethyl acetate(EA)(an OR-responsive odorant),PAH(an IR-responsive aromatic compound)too can form learning and memory when associated with an appetitive gustatory *** association of PAH with sucrose(PAH/SUC)led to learning and formation of the long-term memory(LTM).Additionally,the Orco^(1),Ir84a^(MI00501),and Ir8a^(1)mutant flies were used to confirm the exclusive participation of the IR84a/IR8a complex in PAH/SUC olfactory associative *** results highlight the involvement of IRs via an IR-activated pathway in facilitating robust olfactory behavior.

Nanotechnology has greatly expanded the applications of nanoparticles(NPs)domain in the scientific *** this context,the zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO-NPs)and 24-epibrassinolide(EBL)has been revealed to positively regulate plant metabolism and *** the present study,we investigated the role of ZnO-NPs and EBL in the regulation of plant growth,photosynthetic efficiency,enzymes activities and fruit yield in *** treatment of ZnO-NPs at three levels(10,50 or 100 ppm)and EBL(10^(−8) M)were applied separately or in combination to the foliage of plant at 35-39 days after sowing(DAS);and the control plants were treated with double distilled water(DDW)only at the same time *** different tested concentrations of ZnO-NPs and/or EBL,the combined spray of 50 ppm of ZnO-NPs and 10^(−8) M of EBL proved to be best,and considerably increased the growth,photosynthetic efficiency,biochemical enzymes activities as well as fruit ***,the performance of the antioxidant enzymes viz catalase,peroxidase and superoxide dismutase were also increased after the combined application of ZnO-NPs and EBL in Lycopersicon ***,it is suggested that combined application of 50 ppm of ZnO-NPs and 10−8 M of EBL is the best combination can be applied to increase the performance and yield of ***.

Effect of Salicylic Acid on Salinity-induced Changes in Brassica juncea

Seeds of Indian mustard （Brassicajuncea （L.） Czern. et Coss.） were exposed to 0, 50, 100 and 150 mmol/L NaCI for 8 h and seeds were sown in an earthen pot. These stressed seedlings were subsequently sprayed with 10μmol/L salicylic acid （SA） at 30 d and were sampled at 60 d to assess the changes in growth, photosynthesis and antioxidant enzymes. The seedlings raised from the seeds treated with NaCI had significantly reduced growth and the activities of carbonic anhydrase, nitrate reductase and photosynthesis, and the decrease was proportional to the increase in NaCI concentration. However, the antioxidant enzymes （catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase） and proline content was enhanced in response to NaCI and/or SA treatment, where their interaction had an additive effect. Moreover, the toxic effects generated by the lower concentration of NaCI （50 mmol/L） were completely overcome by the application of SA. It was, therefore, concluded that SA ameliorated the stress generated by NaCl through the alleviated antioxidant system.

Traditional herbal medicine as adjunctive therapy for colorectal cancer:a scoping review

Background:A variety of therapy options are available for colorectal cancer,ranging from traditional medicine to complementary and alternative *** is a growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy of complementary and alternative ***,the main aim of this study is to conduct a scoping evaluation of traditional and herbal medicine’s effectiveness as an additional therapy for colorectal cancer patients in clinical ***:A systematic search was conducted for all articles pertaining to clinical trials related to traditional herbal medicine(THM)with or without other treatments,such as chemotherapy,placebos,or other types of treatment,published from 2010 to November 13,2020,using four search engines,namely Medline,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,and ***:The number of colorectal cancer patients in five trials ranged from 89 to 565 *** THMs stated in these studies were catalpol(Rehmannia glutinosa extract),the traditional Japanese medicine Daikenchuto(mixture of herbal extracts)and Goshajinkigan,Chinese patent herbal medicine Aidi injection,and the traditional Chinese medicine Simo *** results were reported in term of reduction of colorectal cancer tumour marker(by catalpol),improvement of gastrointestinal function following gastrointestinal surgery(by Daikenchuto and Simo decoction),better disease control rate and quality of life score(by combination of Aidi injection and chemotherapy),and a decrease in the incidence of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neurotoxicity(Goshajinkigan).Conclusion:All studies demonstrated fewer adverse effects found in THM intervention groups,however,evidence pointing to THMs’favourable effects on colorectal cancer patients is still ***,researchers and clinicians are encouraged to perform more research in this area so that more evidence of THM’s efficacy and safety in clinical settings can be obtained.

The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry is a major contributor to the economy of Bangladesh, accounting for over 80% of the country’s total exports. In recent years, the industry has faced challenges due to changing global fashion trends and increasing competition from other manufacturing countries. One of the latest trends in the fashion industry is micro seasonal fashion, which has significant impacts on the RMG industry of Bangladesh. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of micro seasonal fashion on the RMG industry of Bangladesh. It will examine the changes in buyer and consumer behavior and demand patterns, the implications for manufacturers and suppliers, and the strategies adopted by industry players to adapt to this trend. The emergence of micro seasonal fashion has disorderly the traditional seasonal cycle of the fashion industry. Consumers are no longer satisfied with the two-season model of spring/summer and fall/winter, but instead demand new styles and trends every few weeks. This trend has created opportunities for the RMG industry of Bangladesh to cater to the fast-changing demands of consumers. Micro Seasonal Fashion also poses significant challenges for the industry. Manufacturers and suppliers must be able to produce and deliver garments quickly and efficiently, while ensuring high quality and sustainability standards. This requires investments in technology, supply chain management, and training of workers. To address these challenges, industry players in Bangladesh have adopted several strategies, such as diversifying product offerings, investing in technology and innovation, and enhancing sustainability practices. These strategies have helped the industry to remain competitive and meet the demands of fast-changing consumer preferences. Comparison of Traffic Growth Factors in Three Major Highways of Bangladesh： A Case Study

The unanticipated increase in vehicle population and heavy axle loads has brought the road network of Bangladesh to a crumbling stage. The network is grossly short of its structural capacity, highly distressed and has started showing signs of premature failure. The RHD (Roads and Highways Department) of Bangladesh uses 8%~10% growth rate of traffic for structural design of these highways that need to be upgraded due to present high traffic volume demand. An attempt has been made through this case study, by using traffic flow data from different computerized toll plaza established in recent times, to predict traffic growth pattern of different highways of Bangladesh. The toll collectors of different computerized toll plaza have been recording and preserving round-the-year continuous flow data in a systematic manner. The study has taken this prospect of utilizing several years of flow data along Dhaka-Chittagong Highway (N-1), Dhaka-Sylhet Highway (N-2), Dhaka-North Bengal Highway (N-5) and found the traffic growth factor of 21.03%, 23.79% and 11.31%, respectively, which is much higher than that transport authority of Bangladesh is currently using. By the use of accurate traffic engineering parameters such as traffic growth factors, it is possible to resist frequent distress of pavement and sustainable pavement management can be implemented by RHD.

Local scour is the reduction of original bed level around any hydraulic *** failure due to scouring has made researchers study the cause of scouring and predict the scour depth and pattern around bridge piers and *** investigators have extensively studied local scour around isolated bridge pier,but modern designs of the bridges comprise of wide span and thus group of piers rather than a single *** flow and scour pattern around group of piers are different from the case of a single pier due to the interaction *** objective of present study is to investigate the effect of mutual interference of bridge piers on local scour experimentally around two piers in non-cohesive *** were carried out on model bridge piers of circular cross section in a meandering *** was observed that when front and rear piers were placed at an angular displacement ofθ=40°and 80°respectively,maximum depth of scour is ***θis the angle the line drawn at the inlet of bend to the line joining the centre of curvature and any point on the outer portion of the bend.

Radio-protective response on the environmental pollutant induced oxidative stress

The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effect of low dose radiation on TCE induced oxidative damage in rats. The oxidative damage of both liver and kidney was assessed by serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), Gamma Glutamyl Trans-Peptidase (GGTP), Alanine and Aspartate Amino Transferase (ALT & AST) activities in addition concentrations of cholesterol, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c), Triacyglycerols (TGs), urea and creatinine were analyzed. Liver lipid peroxidation (MDA), Nitric Oxide (NO), reduced glutathione (GSH) levels, and activities of both Super-Oxide Dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-Px) were measured. Results: TCE administration increase serum ALP, GGTP, ALT, AST activities, cholesterol, triacylglycerols, LDL-c, urea and creatinine concentrations, besides liver MDA and NO, whereas it decreased SOD, GSH-Px activities, GSH level in liver, HDL-c in serum. Low dose of gamma rays (0.5 Gy) exposure significantly improved lipid peroxidation and oxidative injury induced by TCE. Conclusion: The study indicates that treatment with low dose of gamma rays ameliorate harmful effects induced by TCE taking in consideration the effect of gamma radiation as a stimulant of radical detoxification.

Nitrate from the application of nitrogen-based fertilizers in intensive agriculture is a notorious waste product, though it lacks cost-effective solutions for its removal from potential drinking water resources. Catalytic reduction appears to be a promising technique for converting nitrates to benign nitrogen gas. Mesoporous silica SBA-15 is a frequently used catalyst support that has large surface areas and highly ordered nanopores. In this work, mesoporous silica SBA-15 bimetallic catalysts for nitrate reduction were investigated. The catalyst was optimized for the selection of promoter metal (Sn and Cu), noble metal (Pd and Pt) and loading ratios of these metals at different temperatures and reduction conditions. The catalysts prepared were characterized by FT-IR, N2 physisorption, XRD, SEM, and ICP. All catalysts showed the presence of cylindrical mesoporous channels and uniform pore structures that remained even after metals loading. In the presence of a CO2 buffer, the catalysts 4Pd-1Cu/SBA-15 and 1Pt-1Cu/SBA-15 reduced at 100?C under H2 and 1Pd-1Cu/SBA-15 reduced at 200°C under H2 demonstrated very high nitrate conversion. Furthermore, the forementioned Pd catalysts had higher N2 selectivity (88% - 87%) compared to Pt catalyst (80%). Nitrate conversion by the 4Pd-1Cu/SBA-15 catalyst was significantly decreased to 81% in the absence of CO2.

Background: Depression is a common and serious medical illness around the world. It occurs more frequently in patients with chronic illness than in the general population. It is a common psychiatric problem in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Objective: To assess the level of depression in pre-dialytic CKD patients attending at a tertiary care hospital in Bangladesh. Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted at Department of Nephrology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2020 to June 2020. A total of 100 pre-dialytic CKD patients were selected by convenience sampling technique and their level of depression was assessed by Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZSDS). Data were collected by existing questionnaire with face to face interview and analyzed by statistical test. Results: The mean age of the participants was 49.70 ± 11.80 years. Among them 64% were male, 95% were muslim, 98% were married, 65% were completed secondary/above higher secondary level education, 65% were unemployed and 55% were lived in urban area. It was observed that 65% participants were economically dependent to their family, only 6% were engaged in regular exercise, 14% had family history of depression, 8% were smoker and 12% were alcohol/drug abuser. According to the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (ZSDS) we found 29% participants were mildly depressed, 39% participants were moderately depressed and 18% participants were severely depressed. Prevalence of depression was 86% in pre-dialytic CKD patients. Of them, 7% was in CKD stage-I, 17.4% was in CKD stage-II, 19.8% was in CKD stage-III, 22.1% was in CKD stage-IV and 33.7% was in CKD stage-V. Conclusion: Depression is highly prevalent in pre-dialytic CKD patients and more frequent in the advanced stages of CKD.
