Radiological diagnostic errors may have serious clinical and medico-legal implications. Previous work has reported that radiology has a reasonable incidence of error, a number of which are resulted from observer mistakes. The radiologists’ interaction with the image is critical, and studying the types of diagnostic errors to improve patient and radiologist wellbeing, reduce cost and improve the public perception of the health care system is well justified. Therefore, the aim of current review is to consider the primary types of diagnostic errors in radiology, as well as their causes and implications with a focus on mammographic misdiagnosis.

Assessment of Jordanian Radiologist Performance in the Detection of Breast Cancers

This study aims to monitor diagnostic accuracy amongst Jordanian mammography readers and identify parameters linked to higher levels of performance. In this study, we have used the Breast Screen Reader Assessment Strategy (BREAST) platform to facilitate 27 radiologists in reading a case set of 60 digital mammograms, 20 of which included cancers. Each case consisted of the four standard cranio-caudal (CC) and medio-lateral oblique (MLO) projections. All radiologists were registered to read mammograms at their workplace by the Jordanian Ministry of Health. Each reader was asked to locate any malignancies, provide a confidence rating using a scale of 1 - 5, and identify the type of appearance. All images were displayed using 8 MP monitor, supported by radiology workstations with full image manipulation facilities. Results were evaluated using Jackknife Alternative Free-Response Receiver Operating Characteristic (JAFROC). Demographics obtained from each radiologist regarding their experience, qualifications and breast-reading activities were correlated against JAFROC scores using Spearman techniques. The results showed that the mean JAFROC score was 0. 52 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.46, 0.58);location sensitivity score was 0. 41 (95% CI: 0.41, 0.56);specificity score was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.68, 0.83). Higher performance in term of JAFROC scores was directly related to number of years since professional qualification (r = 0.433;p = 0.024), number of years reading breast images (r = 0.62;r = 0.001) and number of mammography images read per year (r = 0.69;p = 0.001). On the other hand, higher performance was inversely linked to the frequency of reading other modalities per week (r = -0.48;p = 0.010). No other statistical differences were significant. Finally, higher radiologists’ performance in cancer detection is correlated with increasing the number of mammograms reads per week.

Background: To evaluate whether current dose reduction strategies for the CT component of hybrid Positron Emission Tomography—Computed Tomography (PET/CT) systems could reduce patient dose with maintaining adequate image quality for PET/CT studies. Materials and Methods: Literature survey was initially based on the selection of keywords and years of publication to identify potentially relevant articles, then the further search was conducted on the authors and references from these articles. The abstract of each article was first appraised to decide whether the content was relevant to this research question. The articles were classified into five groups: studies on dosimetry, studies on radiation-induced diseases, studies on dose reduction methods for CT-based attenuation correction (CTAC), studies on dose reduction methods for CT localization, and studies on reducing the need for a full-dose diagnostic CT in PET/CT imaging. 58 peer-reviewed articles were selected and appraised and 29 articles were used to compose this literature review. Results: The published nuclear medicine and medical physics literature were reviewed. CT dose contributed 47% - 81% of the total effective dose of a standard PET/CT study and was associated with radiation-induced diseases. The dose reduction techniques were extracted and divided into three categories: reducing the CT dose for attenuation correction (AC) and localization, selectively localizing CT use, and reducing the need for a full-dose diagnostic CT. Conclusion: Three strategies have been demonstrated, with high potential for reducing patient dose while maintaining an adequate CT image quality, used for CTCA localization and diagnosis, respectively.

AIM： To evaluate the features and outcome of management of malignant conjunctival squamous tumors in King Hussein Cancer Center（a referral tertiary cancer center in the Middle East）. METHODS： Retrospective case series of 31 eyes for 31 patients with conjunctival squamous neoplasia. Main outcome measures included： age, gender, laterality, tumor location, pathological features, tumor stage, treatment modality, and outcome. RESULTS： Twenty（65%） patients were males and median age was 58 y. Twenty-two（71%） eyes had the tumor in the nasal quadrant. Tumor invasion to nearby structures was seen in 19（61%） eyes, including the cornea, fornix, eyelid, and orbit in 17（55%）, 1（3%）, 2（6%）, and 3（10%） eyes, respectively. Eye salvage was achieved by surgical excision with cryotherapy followed by topical chemotherapy in 28（90%） eyes, and orbital exenteration was necessary in 3（10%） eyes due to orbital tumor invasion. Tumor recurrence was seen in 7（23%） eyes, and the significant predictive factors for recurrence were tumor extension onto the nearby structures（P=0.04）, tumor invasiveness（P=0.038）, and tumor TNM stage（P=0.031）. No significant change in visual acuity was seen, and disease related mortality was 6%（2 patients, both had orbital invasion by invasive squamous carcinoma）. CONCLUSION： Conjunctival squamous carcinoma is more common in males. Advanced American Joint Committee on Cancer（AJCC） T-stage, tumor local invasion, more pathologically aggressive tumors, and surgical treatment alone（without adjuvant therapy） are associated with higher risk for recurrence, and orbital invasion is the most important poor prognostic factor for metastasis and death. Treatment strategies should be affected by tumor characteristics at presentation.

Frontier-based exploration methods are efficient for multi-robot exploration systems. In this paper, enhanced frontier-based techniques are used with team of cooperating mobile robots to explore unknown environment. The aim of the exploration algorithm is to minimize the exploration time by coordinating the robots to maximize overall utility by minimizing the potential of overlapping in information gained amongst the robots. The proposed frontier-based exploration algorithm is based on a new bidding function to decrease the overlap between the robots in addition to the utility and cost parameters. A special parameter depends on the future positions of the robots is also considered. The proposed algorithm has been tested with different environments. We also compared it to A* algorithm. Comparisons demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm.

This work aimed to find a proper control strategy to transfer loads using overhead cranes. The proposed control strategy, which is Fuzzy PD-based, should take into account two main factors. First, the time needed to move the payload from the initial pick up point to the destination point that must be minimized. Second, the oscillation of the payload must be reduced to prevent hazards for people and equipment in the work place. The current work, presents a comparative analysis of fuzzy PD based control basing on classical PD approach. A simplified model has been derived. The proposed control techniques have been designed and validated with MatLab. Numerical comparative results have been obtained and discussed.
