Of all the methods available for the management of first trimester miscarriages, manual vacuum aspiration is the safest, cheapest and fastest. However, pain caused by manipulation of cervix and uterine suction makes it uncomfortable. We compared the clinical effectiveness and adverse effects of combination of non-selective COX inhibitor (Diclofenac Sodium 50 mg) and opioid (Pentazocine 60 mg) to commonly used opiod only (Pentazocine 60 mg) in daily practice of pain management for the treatment of incomplete abortion with manual vacuum aspiration. This was a randomized double-blind controlled trial conducted in Gynaecological Emergency clinic of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano, Nigeria. Comparison of the level of pain experienced during the procedure revealed statistically significant difference in the level of pain reported among the groups (P-value 0.03). Comparison of severity of pain perception and patients’ satisfaction was found to be negatively related (P < 0.000001). The present study shows that the use of combined analgesia compared to single agent analgesia during MVA is more, safe, significantly reduced pain and improved patient satisfaction during the procedure.

A Design of a PID Self-Tuning Controller Using LabVIEW

In this paper a trial has been made to design a simple self-tuning LabVIEW-based PID controller. The controller uses an open-loop relay test, calculates the tuned parameters in an open loop mode of operation before it updates controller parameters and runs the process as a closed-loop system. The controller reacts on a persistent offset error value as a result of load disturbance or a set point change. Practical results show that such a controller may be recommended to control a variety of industrial processes. A GUI was developed to facilitate control-mode selection, the setting of controller parameters, and the display of control system variables. GUI makes it possible to put the controller in manual or self-tuning mode.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine Health-Promoting Behaviors among type 2 diabetic mellitus patients. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 440 diabetic patients referred to selected teaching hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) during six months in 2013. A two section 40-items self-report Questionnaire with demographic variables (12 items) and Health-Promoting Behaviors scale (28 items) included exercise (7 items), risk reducing (7 items), life enjoyment (3 items), stress management (5 items), responsibility (3 items) and healthy eating (3 items) domains. Data was analyzed using SPSS software version 11.5. Level of significance was set at p 0.05 level. Results: Mean scores of total health promoting behaviors in participants were (55.88 ± 18.09) and in domains of exercise, risk reducing, life?enjoyment, stress management, responsibility and healthy eating were (8.2 ± 6.5), (12.2 ± 6.1), (7.8 ± 2.6), (12.3 ± 3.8), (3.3 ± 3.1) and (6.9 ± 2.8) respectively. Life enjoyment was emphasized as the most significant domain in health promoting behaviors scale (65 percent). Study results revealed that there was a significant association among total health promoting behavior and age (p = 0.01), occupation (p = 0.01), family income (p p = 0.01) and HbA1C(p < 0.001). Conclusion: Study findings revealed the necessity of tailoring specific intervention programs to promote exercise and responsibility domains posit.

The effect of sputtering current that flow in a carbon rod on the structural and transport properties of Si-C junction is studied. Si-C junction is fabricated by plasma sputtering in Argon gas atmosphere without catalysts with thickness of 20, 40 and 60 nm. Images of the specimen by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) show that the carbon layer is as carbon nanotubes with diameters about 20 - 30 nm. X-ray and Raman spectrums show peak characteristics of the carbon nanotubes, the G and D bands appear for all thicknesses indicating free of defect carbon nanotubes. Two parameters about the thickness of the carbon layer and the sputtering current for different thicknesses and currents were studied. Nanotubes evidence was clear. We noticed that the sputtering current and thickness of layers affect the structure of CNT layer leading to the formation of grains. Increasing plasma current led to decrease grain formation however increasing thickness ends to increase grain size;moreover it led to amorphous structure formation and this was proved through X-ray, Raman spectra and AFM images.

Objective:To compare the antibacterial activity and antiseptic effect of ethanol extract of Peganum harmala L.(***)seeds and Betadine on eight reference strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae,Salmonella typhimurium,Escherichia coli,Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis,Klebsiella pneumoniae,Staphylococcus aureus,Micrococcus luteus which are known to cause different types of skin infections,and Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis isolated from an abscess on horse's ***:The antibacterial activity was assessed using a disc diffusion *** minimum inhibitory concentration was tested by serial dilution method and the percentage of bacterial growth inhibition by absorbance microplate reader *** minimum bactericidal concentration was then *** outcomes were obtained through washed up healing time of longitudinal and surface skin on the back of 16 rats with concentrations of 10,50,100,150 and 500 mg/mL of *** ***:The results of in vitro experiments showed that the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration(0.68-1.3 mg/mL)and minimum bactericidal concentration(1.3-5 mg/mL)values were observed in the ethanol extract of *** *** the results of in vivo experiment showed that wound healing in the concentration of 50 mg/mL of this plant extract was better and quicker than ***:This study confirmed that ethanol extract of *** has appropriate effect on the microorganisms and the healing of skin wounds in comparison with Betadine.

Severe preeclampsia is a challenging issue facing both intensivist and anesthetic team carrying both maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Termination of pregnancy after blood pressure control is the golden key in management. Cerebral complications due to diffuse cerebral vasospasm are most common and serious. Intrathecal midazolam with its gamma amino butyric action may antidote glutamate mediated sympathetic surge and decreasing cerebral vasospasm. Temporal view transcranial Doppler imaging maternal middle cerebral artery is used to examine blood flow indices namely pulsatility index and resistive index. One hundred ladies with severe preeclampsia scheduled for urgent caesarian section were recruited in 2 groups, both received 10 mg bupivacaine 0.5%, Midazolam group received 1 mg midazolam and the other group received 0.2 ml sterile saline 0.9% NaCl. All vascular indices were significantly better in midazolam group, less ICU stay.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a double-stranded linear DNA human herpesvirus that is transmitted primarily through saliva during childhood. Although the majority of primary EBV infections are clinically asymptomatic, clinical cases are presented as infectious mononucleosis (IMN) syndrome. Objectives: This study was conducted to explore the rate of EBV anti-VCA IgG among children who were clinically suspected as having IMNin Diyala province. Subjects and Methods: This is a cross sectional study that was carried out during 2018 in Diyala province-Iraq. A total of 370 blood samples were collected from 190 children under 15 years of age who were clinically suspected as having IMN, and 180 apparently healthy children as controls. The anti EBV VCA IgG antibodies were detected in serum using the VCA IgG ELISA kit (from *** Diagnostic Bioprobessrl-Italy). Statistical analysis was carried out using the SPSS-version 25. A statistical significance was considered whenever the P value was ≤ 0.05. Results: The results showed that the IgG positivity rate among suspected IMN patients was insignificantly higher in the age group 10 - 14 years old children (80.8%, P = 0.364). In control subjects the highest positivity rate was in the age group of 1 - 4 years with a statistically significant difference (79.5%, P = 0.002). In suspected IMN patients, the age group of 10 - 14 years had the highest mean concentration ± SD of anti-VCA IgG 44.018 ± 38.644 arbitrary units per milliliter (arbU/ml), while in controls, the highest value 38.018 ± 34.908 (arbU/ml) was in the age group of 1 - 4 years, with insignificant difference in either group (P = 0.257 and 0.072, respectively). The results also showed that in both suspected IMN patients and control subjects, females showed higher IgG positivity rate (70.6%, and 75.5%) compared to males (64.8%, and 65.1%) with insignificant difference in both groups (P = 0.392 and 0.126) respectively. A Comparative Study of Quality of Family, Social Relationships and Type D Personality in Cardiovascular Patients and Non-Patients

This study aims to compare the quality of family and social relationships and Type D personality in cardiovascular patients with normal people. In this research, 300 individuals (n = 150 male, 150 female) are divided in two groups of patient (n = 150) and non-patients (n = 150) were selected as samples from the author’s offices (both private and his office in Mazandaran Heart Center). They attended in this study filling the questionnaires of “Pierce Quality relations” and “Personality Inventory (DS14)”. In order to analyze data, First observations were described by the help of descriptive statistics methods including tables, graphs, and indices of central tendency and distribution. Then, observations were described by inferential statistics methods such as univariate and multivariate analysis of variance and then were analyzed by SPSS. Out of the 300 participants, 108 patients (36%) had the mean age of 52 to 63 years old and 30 patients (10%) were 30 to 40 years old. This study showed that there is a significant difference between cardiovascular patients and control group in terms of quality of family and social relationships and Type D personality (P < 0.01). Cardiovascular patients have lower quality of family and social relationships, social support, as well as lower depth of relationships, and also higher relationship conflict than normal people. Also cardiovascular patients have higher type D personality than normal people (P < 0.01). In general, research findings indicate the importance of psychological factors associated with coronary artery disease.

Detailed characterization of fabric reinforcements is necessary to ensure the quality of manufactured composite parts, and subsequently to prevent structural failure during service. A lack of consensus and standardization exists in selecting test methods for the mechanical characterization of fabrics. Moreover, in reality, during any experimentation there are sources of uncertainties which may result in inconsistencies in the interpretation of data and the comparison of different testing methods. The aim of this article is to show how simple statistical data analysis methods may be used to enhance the characterization of composite fabrics under individual and combined loading modes while accounting for inherent material/test uncertainties. Results using a typical glass non-crimp fabric (NCF) show that, statistically, there are significant differences between the warp and weft direction responses of a presumably balanced NCF under all deformation modes, with weft yarns being generally stiffer. Moreover, the statistical significance of warp-weft couplings under both simultaneous and sequential biaxial-shear loading modes became statistically evident, when compared to a pure biaxial deformation.
