Essential Oil from Citrus aurantium Alleviates Anxiety of Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography: A Single-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective To determine the effectiveness and safety of essential oil from Citrus aurantium on anxiety in patients undergoing coronary angiography.Methods A single-blind,randomized controlled trial was conducted in 80 patients experiencing coronary angiography in Imam Ali Hospital in Kermanshah,Iran from April to November in 2016.All patients were randomly divided into intervention and control groups by a random number table,40 cases in each group.The patients in the intervention group inhaled Citrus aurantium essential oil for 15–20 min about 60 min before angiography.Following the same procedure,distilled water was used instead of Citrus aurantium in the control group.Spielbergers State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI)was filled in and vital signs including systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),respiratory and pulse rate were recorded before and 20 min after the intervention.Adverse reactions after intervention were observed.Results In the intervention group,the mean scores of STAI,SBP,DBP,respiratory and pulse rate were 53.30±10.13,134.82±11.75 mm Hg,84.49±6.99 mm Hg,17.87±1.73 times/min,and 76.48±12.55 beats/min at baseline and significantly decreased to 42.37±10.15,124.49±10.48 mm Hg,79.23±6.62 mm Hg,14.54±1.43 times/min,and 70.03±13.66 beats/min respectively 20 min after intervention(all P0.05).All subjects reported no adverse reactions.Conclusion Inhalation of the essential oil from Citrus aurantium was effective in reducing anxiety and stress levels in patients undergoing coronary angiography.

Unfavorable environmental cues severely affect crop productivity resulting in significant economic losses to farmers. In plants, multiple regulatory genes, such as the WRKY transcription factor (TF) family, modulate the expression of defense genes. However, the role of the pineapple WRKY genes is poorly understood. Here, we studied the pineapple WRKY gene, AcWRKY28, by generating AcWRKY28 over-expressing transgenic pineapple plants. Overexpression of AcWRKY28 enhanced the salt stress resistance in transgenic pineapple lines. Comparative transcriptome analysis of transgenic and wild-type pineapple plants showed that “plant-pathogen interaction” pathway genes, including 9calcium-dependent protein kinases (CPKs), were up-regulated in AcWRKY28 over-expressing plants. Furthermore, chromatin immunoprecipitation and yeast one-hybrid assays revealed AcCPK12, AcCPK3, AcCPK8, AcCPK1, and AcCPK15 as direct targets of AcWRKY28. Consistently, the study of AcCPK12 over-expressing Arabidopsis lines showed that AcCPK12 enhances salt, drought, and disease resistance. This study shows that AcWRKY28 plays a crucial role in promoting salt stress resistance by activating the expression of AcCPK genes.

Optimal Synthesis of the Stephenson-Ⅱ Linkage for Finger Exoskeleton Using Swarm-based Optimization Algorithms

Active exoskeletons have been widely investigated to supplement and restore human hand movements,but a significant limitation is that they have a complicated design requiring multi actuators.Single Degree-Of-Freedom(DOF)planar linkage mechanisms could be used with simple control.This research represents the design and optimization of a mechanism proposed for a finger exoskeleton bionic device.One DOF six-bar linkage Stephenson-II is selected,and a motion-generation mechanism synthesis problem is defined.The design is based on the data obtained from the flexion/extension motion of the index finger through 16 precision points and 16 angles for each phalange associated with the fingertip position.After explaining the kinematic analysis of the Stephenson-II,an evaluation of swarm intelligence techniques,including PSO,GWO,and ARO algorithms for solving optimization problems,is presented.ARO algorithm demonstrates the best performance among them.Moreover,the optimized mechanism in this study has a 50% error reduction compared to the one previously designed(Bataller et al.in Mech Mach Theory 105:31-43,2016).

Innovative configuration of vertical slot fishway to enhance fish swimming conditions

A vertical slot fishway(VSF)is among the most effective and commonly used fishway structures to enable fish to pass through artificial barriers such as dams and weirs in the river.Nevertheless,such structures need further improvements in providing better swimming conditions for fish inside the pool and enhancing attraction at the entrance.Therefore,the main objective of this study was to investigate the influence of slope and whether integrating some cylinder structures inside the fishway could enhance further attraction and provide better swimming conditions for fish.This study consists of several numerical simulations,first considering the fishway without cylinder elements while testing three different slopes under two different discharges.Then,the same numerical simulations were conducted,considering cylinder elements of different diameters and arrangements inside the fishway.The numerical model was validated by comparing computed velocities with those measured experimentally from the literature.The results show that the maximum velocity and turbulent kinetic energy(TKE)in the main jet increase as the discharge increases on the same slope.The flow velocity and TKE decrease in the areas inside the pool and between the two baffles.Introducing cylinder elements inside the fishway reduces the principal flow’s maximum velocity.Also,inside the pool,low-velocity regions were expanding.A comparison between the design with a cylinder and the simple VSF indicates that the presence of a cylinder reduced the maximum velocities for the smallest and highest slopes by 6.21%and 9.86%on average,respectively.However,in terms of TKE,cylinders inside the fishway could provide better performance than simple VSF,mainly for low-flow conditions.Finally,this study’s solution-oriented findings provide insights that could help design cost-effective fishways by improving particularly fish attraction to the fishway.

Non-isolated Step-up DC-DC Converter Based on Switched Capacitor Cells

A non-isolated high gain step-up DC-DC converter for low power applications is suggested in this study.In the designed transformerless converter,the main switch current and voltage stress is reduced while maintaining high voltage gain.For instance,with a duty cycle of 0.5 a voltage gain equal to 5 is achieved while the normalized switch voltage stress is 0.4.Also,it decreases power losses of active and passive elements.In the proposed converter design,the switched-capacitor(SC)technique is used to obtain maximum voltage transfer gain using only one switch.The three modes of operation,i.e.,continuous conduction mode(CCM),boundary conduction mode(BCM),and discontinuous conduction mode(DCM),are studied in detail.The small signal analysis(SSA)of the designed converter is investigated,and its steady-state model is examined under CCM.Performance of the proposed converter proposed in this study is assessed and tested using a prototype.Efficiency of the converter is recorded above 94%in a wide range of output powers.Overall,compared to the other converters,the results suggest satisfactory performance of the designed converter.An issue of the proposed converter is that its input current is not smooth due to using the switched-capacitor cell in its structure.This issue is alleviated by using input filters.

Effects of heat treatment on the corrosion behavior and mechanical properties of biodegradable Mg alloys

Biodegradable magnesium(Mg)alloys exhibit great potential for use as temporary structures in tissue engineering applications.Such degradable implants require no secondary surgery for their removal.In addition,their comparable mechanical properties with the human bone,together with excellent biocompatibility,make them a suitable candidate for fracture treatments.Nevertheless,some challenges remain.Fast degradation of the Mg-based alloys in physiological environments leads to a loss of the mechanical support that is needed for complete tissue healing and also to the accumulation of hydrogen gas bubbles at the interface of the implant and tissue.Among different methods used to improve the performance of the biodegradable Mg alloys to address these challenges,it appears that heat treatment is the most effective way to modify the microstructure and thus the corrosion behavior and mechanical properties without changing the composition or shape of the alloys.A desirable combination of corrosion and mechanical properties can be obtained through a precise control of the heat treatment parameters.In this report,the effects of different heat treatments(T4 and T6)on the microstructure,corrosion behavior,and mechanical properties of some of the most important heat-treatable biodegradable Mg alloys(Mg-Zn,Mg-Gd,Mg-Y,Mg-Nd,Mg-Al and Mg-Ag)are examined as well as new perspectives to enhance their clinical implementation.

An Animated GIF Steganography Using Variable Block Partition Scheme

The paper presents a novel Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) Steganography system. The algorithm uses an animated (GIF) file format video to applyon, a secured and variable image partition scheme for data embedding. The secretdata could be any character text, any image, an audio file, or a video file;that isconverted in the form of bits. The proposed method uses a variable partitionscheme structure for data embedding in the (GIF) file format video. The algorithmestimates the capacity of the cover (GIF) image frames to embed data bits. Ourmethod built variable partition blocks in an empty frame separately and incorporate it with randomly selected (GIF) frames. This way the (GIF) frame is dividedinto variable block same as in the empty frame. Then algorithm embeds secretdata on appropriate pixel of the (GIF) frame. Each selected partition block for dataembedding, can store a different number of data bits based on block size. Intruders could never come to know exact position of the secrete data in this stegoframe. All the (GIF) frames are rebuild to make animated stego (GIF) video.The performance of the proposed (GIF) algorithm has experimented andevaluated based on different input parameters, like Mean Square Error (MSE)and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) values. The results are compared withsome existing methods and found that our method has promising results.

Milk thistle(Silybum marianum)is a crucial medicinal plant containing a large amount of oil.In the study,the changes in storage oil during seed germination and seedling transition from heterotrophic phases were investigated.The results showed that seed oil decreased from 19.53%to 0.88%on the 7th day of seedling development.Oil hydrolysis continued until the 4th day of germination with a low slope,but then increased the use of oils in seed germination end seedling growth metabolism.The results indicated that the quantitative changes in fatty acids,presented at lower amount,were relatively higher than dominant fatty acids.There were decreasing phenolic content in the developing seedlings,but overall,lowest level of total phenolic content can be attributed to the control(30.52 mg⋅100 g⋅Oil^(-1)).In contrast,the maximum peroxide value(2.58 meq⋅kg Oil^(-1))in the developing seedling was observed on the last day of the experiment.The results showed that there was a significant correlation between saturated fatty acid,unsaturated fatty acid,and lipase activity.However,the correlation between lipase activity and polyunsaturated fatty acids was significantly higher than between lipase activity and monounsaturated fatty acids(R^(2)=90%and R^(2)=77%,respectively).Therefore,the lipolysis process acts selectively in milk thistle oils.According to the results,C12:0 exhibits a greater impact on the early seedling growth rather than on the germination process and is one of the determining factors in the transition from heterotroph to autotroph.Also,it can be a marker for TAGs breakdown.

Biodegradation of natural and synthetic estrogens in moving bed bioreactor

Estrogen hormones as a group of endocrine disruptive compounds(EDC) can interfere with endocrine system in humans and animals. The goal of this study was to investigate the elimination rate of Estrone(El), 17β-estradiol(E2) and 17α-ethinyl estradiol(EE2) in Moving Bed Bioreactor(MBBR). These analytes extracted by Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction(DLLME) technique, followed by derivatization, and detected by GC/MS. Estrogen removal efficiency in MBBR improved at high solid retention times(SRTs), which notion is owing to development of nitrification. Estrogen specific removal rate was between 0.22-1.45 μg·(g VSS)^(-1)·d^(-1) for natural and synthetic hormones. The adsorption rate was 0.9%-3.2%, 0-1.3%, and 0.7%-5.7% for El, E2, and EE2, respectively. In addition, the biodegradation rates were more than 95% for these compounds. These results illustrated that in MBBR,the biodegradation and the adsorption to biomass are considered as two significant routes for elimination of estrogenic compounds. As a whole, the deterioration rate of estrogens enhanced by MBBR compared to other biological wastewater treatment processes such as conventional activated sludge.

Smart Anti-Pinch Window Simulation Using H_/H_(∞)Criterion and MOPSO

Automobile power windows are mechanisms that can be opened and shut with the press of a button.Although these windows can comfort the effort of occupancy to move the window,failure to recognize the person’s body part at the right time will result in damage and in some cases,loss of that part.An anti-pinch mechanism is an excellent choice to solve this problem,which detects the obstacle in the glass path immediately and moves it down.In this paper,an optimal solution H_/H_(∞)is presented for fault detection of the anti-pinch window system.The anti-pinch makes it possible to detect an obstacle and prevent damages through sampling parameters such as current consumption,the speed and the position of DC motors.In this research,a speed-based method is used to detect the obstacles.In order to secure the anti-pinch window,an optimal algorithm based on a fault detection observer is suggested.In the residual design,the proposed fault detection algorithm uses theDCmotor angular velocity rate.Robustness against disturbances and sensitivity to the faults are considered as an optimization problem based on Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm.Finally,an optimal filter for solving the fault problem is designed using the H_/H_(∞)method.The results show that the simulated anti-pinch window is pretty sensitive to the fault,in the sense that it can detect the obstacle in 50 ms after the fault occurrence.
