This research investigated the water qualities and distribution of heavy metals concentration in rain, river, ground and supply waters, providing a baseline in Dhaka Urban, Bangladesh, against which future changes can be assessed. The water sample was collected in the Dhaka central zone, from a site located in the center of the Bengal Delta plain between 23䓨'N - 23䓶'N latitude and 90䓔'E - 90䓟'E longitude which is affected by environmental pollution for high traffic, industrialization and because of its rapid urbanization. The water samples were analyzed for heavy metals by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectrometry (ICP-MS), major ions by Ion-Chromatography (IC), water tracer (δ18O and δD) by Mass-Spectrometry (MS), following the standard techniques. Elevated EC and chloride (Cl-) are the markers of wastewater, providing an indication of impacts in the Buriganga River water. The relative concentrations of major ions were presented in the form of Piper and Stiff Diagram. The color maps were constructed to present ions distribution over the areas. The stream reaches directly in Buriganga River from leather industries which may reflect the naturally low dissolved oxygen (DO) 0.3 - 3.5 (mg/L), where aquatic life can’t survive. Uranium contents U238 (0.1 - 2.7 μg/L) are not exceeding the WHO guideline level of 30 μg·L-1. Significant portion of Cs133 (0.05 - 0.32 μg/L), Se (0.03 - 0.12 μg/L), B (50 - 2986 μg/L) and Cr (0.55 - 18.59 μg/L), could be increased in Buriganga River areas by the effect of local sources like leather industry. Zn (10 - 1466 μg/L) in the Dhaka Rain and Pb (4 - 6 μg/L) in Dhaka Water occur mainly in industrial and the high traffic areas, respectively. Development of chemometric model for characterization of non-wood by FT-NIR data

In this study,a model for prediction of lignocellulose components of agricultural residues has been developed with Fourier Transformed Near Infrared(FT-NIR)spectroscopy *** calibration techniques(Principal Component Regression(PCR)and Partial Least Square Regression(PLSR))were assessed for prediction of lignin,holocellulose,α-cellulose,pentosan and ash,and found the PLSR better for lignin,holocellulose andα-*** PCR also produced better results for quantification of pentosan and *** range(7000-5000 cm^(-1))showed more informative than other parts of the spectral *** PLSR showed maximum value of R^(2)(R^(2)=0.91%)for prediction of *** the prediction of pentosan,the PCR was better(R^(2)=0.68%).The PCR also showed better results(R^(2)=86%)for quantification of *** determine amount of lignin,the PLSR was the best(R^(2)=0.83%)when the spectral data were de-trained and smoothed with Savitzky-Golay(S-G)filtering *** prediction ofα-cellulose,the PLSR was the best model(R^(2)=0.94%)when the data were pretreated with mean *** the best alternatives inNear Infrared(NIR)data preprocessing and calibration techniques,methods for quantification of lignocellulose components of agricultural residues have been developed which is rapid,cost effective,and less chemical intensive and easily usable in pulp and paper industries and pulp testing laboratories.

South Asian(SA)countries have been fighting with the pandemic novel coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)since January ***,the country-specific descriptive study has been ***,as transboundary infection,the border sharing,shared cultural and behavioral practice,effects on the temporal and spatial distribution of COVID-19 in SA is still ***,this study has been revealed the spatial hotspot along with descriptive output on different parameters of COVID-19 *** extracted data from theWHO and the worldometer database from the onset of the outbreak up to 15 May,*** has the highest case fatality rate(CFR,9.22%),whereas Oceania has the highest(91.15%)recovery rate from *** SA countries,India has the highest number of cases(85,790),followed by Pakistan(38,799)and Bangladesh(20,065).However,the number of tests conducted was minimum in this region in comparison with other *** highest CFR was recorded in India(3.21%)among SA countries,whereas Nepal and Bhutan had no death record due to COVID-19 so *** recovery rate varies from 4.75%in the Maldives to 51.02%in Sri *** Bangladesh,community transmission has been recorded,and the highest number of cases were detected in Dhaka,followed by Narayanganj and *** detected Dhaka and its surrounding six districts,namely Gazipur,Narsingdi,Narayanganj,Munshiganj,Manikganj,and Shariatpur,as the 99%confidence-based hotspot where Faridpur and Madaripur district as the 95%confidence-based spatial hotspots of COVID-19 in ***,we did not find any cold spots in *** identified three hotspots and three cold spots at different confidence levels in *** from this study suggested the“Test,Trace,and Isolation”approach for earlier detection of infection to prevent further community transmission of COVID-19.

Service delivery effectiveness of Farmers’ Information and Advice Centres in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila of Bangladesh

The indispensability of information in agricultural development led to the setting up of Farmers’Information and Advice Centres(FIACs)by the government of Bangladesh all over the *** FIACs mainly provide information related to different agriculture subsectors like crop,fisheries and livestock with the overall aim of improving farmers’***,the effectiveness along with problems and suggestions for improvement of the FIACs’services were examined in this study by surveying two FIACs of Dinajpur sadar *** effectiveness of FIAC was determined on some selected farm(crop,fisheries and livestock)information based on three dimensions *** received,its understanding and *** were collected using interview schedule from a sample of 96 farmers selected by proportionate random sampling *** statistics and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient(r)were used in the *** terms of crop production sub-sector,all the respondents(100%)received,understood and applied‘tomato seed production technology’information,followed by‘rice seed production and preservation technology’(96.9%).Also,as for the livestock sub-sector,all the respondents(100%)received,understood and applied‘beef fattening through UMS method’information,followed by‘livestock rearing’(89.5%).Similarly,in case of fisheries sub-sector,all the respondents(100%)receive,understand and apply‘Pangas(Pangasius pangasius)culture method’information,followed by‘preparation of an ideal pond’(92.3%).In essence,the FIACs are quiet effective in their service *** the seven selected characteristics of the respondents,educational qualification,family income and perception on the service delivery efficiency of FIACs showed positive significant association with the effectiveness of the ***,the foremost problems mentioned by the respondents were FIACs staff inefficiency(83.33%)and lack of effective long term training program for both farmers and

Neutrophil Count, Platelet Indices, CRP and Their Association with Disease Activity of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA): A Study from Bangladesh

Background: Chronic inflammation of the joints in JIA patients is associated with raised levels of serum inflammatory biomarkers, which vary according to disease activity. Neutrophil count, platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), ESR and CRP are the essential markers to evaluate the disease activity status of JIA patients. Objectives: To assess neutrophil count, platelet count, MPV, PDW, CRP and Juvenile Arthritis Disease Activity Score (JADAS) in JIA patients and determine their association at the initial visit and six months after treatment. Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted from March 2019 to December 2020 in the department of paediatrics, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Fifty newly diagnosed JIA cases fulfilling the ILAR classification criteria were included in the study. Disease activity was assessed by JADAS 27. JADAS 27 and inflammatory biomarkers were measured at the initial visit and six months of treatment and these were compared. Results: Mean neutrophil count, platelet count, and CRP significantly decreased at follow-up after six months of treatment. MPV and PDW were increased after six months compared to the initial visit, and the change was significant. Mean JADAS 27 also decreased significantly at follow-up. Neutrophil count, Platelet indices and CRP had a significant association with JADAS 27. Conclusion: In this study, neutrophil count, platelet indices, and CRP after six months of treatment were improved. A significant association of JADAS 27 was found with platelet indices, neutrophil count and CRP.

Development of a Novel Integrated Web-Based System for Advertisement Service

This paper presents the design and implementation of a web-based application for an advertising system. There are many places in our country where billboard advertising has not become popular yet. Also, there are many companies that don’t prefer to promote their services or products through billboards for not having a proper advertising system. There is also no such platform where vehicles can be used for advertisement purposes. While researching on these issues, there was found no connecting bridge between the vendors and the customers, which is one of the main reasons for not utilizing the billboards properly and kept them empty. To solve the mentioned problem, we came up with an idea to develop a website to allow the vendors to showcase their empty billboards and vehicles which can be used for advertising purposes and it allows the customer to choose any of the available billboards/vehicles for advertising without hassle. The main purpose of this research work is to create a web-based common platform for companies who want to rent advertising space on billboards and on the walls of vehicles, and also for the owners of the billboards and vehicles. The main contribution of this paper is to develop an online web application for companies who want to rent empty space on billboards and the walls of vehicles. In order to maintain the advertising system, the admin of the website has made appropriate rules and regulations which will fulfill the demands of the vendors and customers. Here, the system has discussed all the details, such as the connection between the vendors and customers, the efficiency of the website, transaction method, etc. The proposed web application developed in this paper has been tested and it is found to be user-friendly and very efficient.

Background: Patients of acute leukemia require careful assessment of liver function prior to start chemotherapy to determine which drugs may be appropriate or to be modified. Post chemotherapy abnormalities of liver function tests may be due to drugs or due to disease process itself. Objective: To evaluate the status of liver function in acute leukemia patients before and after induction chemotherapy. Methodology: This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2017 to December 2017 on fifty (50) newly diagnosed patients of acute leukemia who fulfilled the selection criteria. Blood samples for serum total bilirubin, alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) were collected before chemotherapy (Day 1) and after induction chemotherapy on 14th day and 30th day. Serum ALT and AST were measured by kinetic method and serum total bilirubin was measured by DMSO method. Data were analyzed and compared by statistical tests. Result: In this study, the mean level of serum total bilirubin before chemotherapy at day 1 was 0.89 ± 0.64 mg/dl. Childhood overweight and obesity, is an emerging public health concern in developing countries like Bangladesh. However, regular television watching by child’s mother and its impact on excess weight gain or overweight and obesity to their offspring is not reported elsewhere. The aim of the present analysis was to determine the socio-demographic characteristics among overweight and obese children based on those mothers who watch television regularly and compare this finding with malnourished and well-nourished under-5 children. A total of 20,800 under-5 children were enrolled during 1996 to 2012 in the Diarrheal Disease Surveillance System (DDSS) of Dhaka Hospital of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). Mean weight-for-age z-score (–1.61 vs. –2.30;mean difference: ?0.69;p < 0.001), height-for-age z-score (–1.42 vs. –1.99;–0.57;<0.001), weight-for-height z-score (–1.59 vs. –1.07;–0.53;<0.001), BMI-for-age z-score (–1.09 vs. –1.61, –0.52;<0.001) differed significantly between the children whose mother did and did not watch television regularly. Under-5 children whose mother watched television regularly (2%) compared to those who did not (1%), had 2.28 [(95% CI-1.61 - 3.24) p < 0.001] times increased odds of being overweight and obese. Television watching of mothers is associated with childhood overweight and obesity and is one of the most public health concerns in Bangladesh. These changes may be in part of better socio-economic condition, changes in life style behaviour and dietary pattern.
