Near Gas-Water Contact Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide to Improve the Performance of Water Drive Gas Reservoir: Case Study

This study investigates the application of carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration to address challenges in water-drive gas reservoirs, specifically focusing on improving gas recovery and mitigating water invasion. Traditional methods like blow-down and co-production have limitations, including sand production, water coning, and inefficiency in strong aquifers. To overcome these issues, this research explores CO2 injection near the edge aquifer, aiming to reduce water influx and enhance gas recovery through the propagation of a CO2 plume in the gas-water contact zone. Both synthetic and real compositional reservoir models were studied, with CO2 injection performed while maintaining reservoir pressure below 90% of the initial level. Results show that CO2 sequestration significantly improved recovery, particularly in higher permeability reservoirs, where it reduced aquifer influx and increased gas production by 26% under challenging conditions. While CO2 dissolution in water decreased aquifer influx by 39%, its adverse effect on sweep efficiency led to a reduction in gas and water production by 4.2% and 10%, respectively. The method's effectiveness was not significantly impacted by aquifer permeability, but it was sensitive to vertical-to-horizontal permeability ratios. When applied to a real gas reservoir, the proposed method increased gas production by 14% compared to conventional techniques, with minimal CO2 production over a 112-year period. This study demonstrates the potential of CO2 sequestration as a comprehensive solution for enhancing gas recovery, reducing water production, and mitigating environmental impacts in water-drive gas reservoirs.

Correspondence between phenomenological and IBM-1 models of even isotopes of Yb

Energy levels and the reduced probability of E2- transitions for ytterbium isotopes with proton number Z = 70 and neutron numbers between 100 and 106 have been calculated through phenomenological （PhM） and interacting boson （IBM-1） models. The predicted low-lying levels （energies, spins and parities） and the reduced probability for E2- transitions results are reasonably consistent with the available experimental data. The predicted low-lying levels （gr-, β1- and γ1- band） produced in the PhM are in good agreement with the experimental data compared with those by IBM-1 for all nuclei of interest. In addition, the phenomenological model was successful in predicting the β2-, β3-, β4-, γ2- and 1＋- band while it was a failure with IBM-1. also, the 3＋- band is predicted by the IBM-1 model for 172Yb and 174yb nuclei. all calculations are compared with the available experimental data.

Evaluation of Novel Chitosan Based Composites Coating on Wettability for Pure Titanium Implants

This work aims to prepare chitosan(CS)-based coated layers,CS(10 wt%nanosilver/90 wt%CS,10 wt%biotin/90 wt%CS,and 5 wt%nanosilver–5 wt%biotin)/90 wt%CS coatings are prepared,onto pure Ti *** surface morphology of the novel CS composite coating was studied using field emission scanning electron microscopy,atomic force microscopy(AFM),Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR)and wettability *** show that the addition of(biotin,nanosilver)5 Vol.%improves the properties of composite *** different particles’scale size aid in improving the combinations in the alginate,producing a dual effect on film *** surface roughness decreased in the chitosan-based biocomposite with preferable homogeneity and crack-free coating layers,as confirmed by *** increase in surface roughness ensured substitution,which enhanced the surface *** high wettability of the CS-based coating layers was due to the presence of nanoparticles,and the composite coatings with CS,nanosilver,or biotin had excellent wettability because of the good hydrophilic nature of the CS matrix combined with reinforced *** FTIR results showed that peaks of the blending of CS plus nanoparticles,CS plus biotin,or CS plus nanosilver plus biotin were excellent matching with no changes in the structure of the matrix.

This study was conducted to investigate the properties of Pr3+-Dy3+doped Zn2Y-type hexaferrite for potential technological applications.X-ray diffraction（XRD）,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR） and field-emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM） were used to a.alyze structural *** crystallite size in the synthesized samples varies between 57.54 and 68.57 *** vibrational bands at 400 and 600 cm-1,common to all hexaferrites,were confirmed through *** FESEM a.alysis reveals an agglomeration of magnetic grains and a decrease in the average grain size from 1.24 to1.06 μ*** M-H loops show that,with x values of 0.0,0.1,and 0.2,the saturation magnetization is determined to be 34.76,34.23,and 32.52 emu/g,*** corresponding coercivity values are21.24,30.39,and 33.99 ***-visible spectroscopy using Tauc theory reveals an increase in the optical band gap from 2.32 to 2.50 eV,indicating a tunable energy band structure by incorporating Pr3+-Dy3+*** dielectric constant increases,whereas AC conductivity decreases with increased Pr3+-Dy3+*** obtained results suggest the potential suitability of these materials for various technological applications.

Erratum to “Rock Fragmentation Classification Applying Machine Learning Approaches” [Engineering, 15 (2023) 378-395]*

The nature of rock fragmentation affects the downstream mining processes like loading, hauling, and crushing the blasted rock. Therefore, it is important to evaluate rock fragmentation after blasting for choosing or designing optimal strategies for these processes. However, current techniques of rock fragmentation a.alysis such as sieving, image-based a.alysis, empirical methods or artificial intelligence-based methods entail different practical challenges, for example, excessive processing time, higher costs, applicability issues in underground environments, user-biasness, accuracy issues, etc. A classification model has been developed by utilizing image a.alysis techniques to overcome these challenges. The model was tested on about 7500 videos of load-haul-dump (LHD) buckets with blasted material from Malmberget iron ore mine in Sweden. A Kernel-based support vector machine (SVM) method was utilized to extract frames comprising loaded LHD buckets. Then, the blasted rock in the buckets was classified into five distinct categories using the bagging k-nearest neighbor (KNN) technique. The results showed 99.8% and 89.8% accuracy for kernel-based SVM and bagging KNN classifiers, respectively. The developed framework is efficient in terms of the operation time, cost and practicability for different mines and variate amounts of rock masses.

Predictive approach of COVID-19 propagation via multipleterms sigmoidal transition model

The COVID-19 pandemic with its new variants has severely affected the whole world socially and *** study presents a novel data a.alysis approach to predict the spread of *** and logistic models are commonly used to determine the duration at the end of the *** show that these well-known models may provide unrealistic predictions for countries that have pandemics spread with multiple peaks and waves.A new prediction approach based on the sigmoidal transition(ST)model provided better estimates than the traditional *** this study,a multiple-term sigmoidal transition(MTST)model was developed and validated for several countries with multiple peaks and *** approach proved to fit the actual data better and allowed the spread of the pandemic to be accurately *** UK,Italy,Saudi Arabia,and Tunisia,which experienced several peaks of COVID-19,were used as case *** MTST model was validated for these countries for the data of more than 500 *** results show that the correlating model provided good fits with regression coefficients(R2)>*** estimated model parameters were obtained with narrow 95%confidence interval *** has been found that the optimum number of terms to be used in the MTST model corresponds to the highest R^(2),the least RMSE,and the narrowest 95%confidence interval having positive bounds.
