Mechanical and corrosion properties of graphene nanoplatelet–reinforced Mg–Zr and Mg–Zr–Zn matrix nanocomposites for biomedical applications

Magnesium(Mg)-based biomaterials have gained acceptability in fracture fixation due to their ability to naturally degrade in the body after fulfilling the desired ***,pure Mg not only degrades rapidly in the physiological environment,but also evolves hydrogen gas during *** this study,Mg0.5Zr and Mg0.5ZrxZn(x=1–5 wt.%)matrix nanocomposites(MNCs)reinforced with different contents(0.1–0.5 wt.%)of graphene nanoplatelets(GNP)were manufactured via a powder metallurgy technique and their mechanical and corrosion properties were *** increase in GNP concentration from 0.2 wt.%to 0.5 wt.%added to Mg0.5Zr matrices resulted in decreases in the compressive yield strength and corrosion resistance in Hanks’Balanced Salt Solution(HBSS).On the other hand,a higher concentration(4–5 wt.%)of Zn added to Mg0.5Zr0.1GNP resulted in an increase in ductility but a decrease in compressive yield ***,an addition of 0.1 wt.%GNPs to Mg0.5Zr3Zn matrices gave excellent ultimate compressive strength(387 MPa)and compressive yield strength(219 MPa).Mg0.5Zr1Zn0.1GNP and Mg0.5Zr3Zn0.1GNP nanocomposites exhibited 29%and 34%higher experimental yield strength,respectively,as compared to the theoretical yield strength of Mg0.5Zr0.1GNP calculated by synergistic strengthening mechanisms including the difference in thermal expansion,elastic modulus,and geometry of the particles,grain refinement,load transfer,and precipitation of GNPs in the Mg *** corrosion rates of Mg0.5Zr1Zn0.1GNP,Mg0.5Zr3Zn0.1GNP,Mg0.5Zr4Zn0.1GNP,and Mg0.5Zr5Zn0.1GNP measured using potentiodynamic polarization were 7.5 mm/y,4.1 mm/y,6.1 mm/y,and 8.0 mm/y,***,hydrogen gas evolution tests also demonstrated that Mg0.5Zr3Zn0.1GNP exhibited a lower corrosion rate(1.5 mm/y)than those of Mg0.5Zr1Zn0.1GNP(3.8 mm/y),Mg0.5Zr4Zn0.1GNP(1.9 mm/y),and Mg0.5Zr5Zn0.1GNP(2.2 mm/y).This study demonstrates the potential of GNPs as effective nano-reinforcement particulates for improv

Milk thistle(Silybum marianum)is a crucial medicinal plant containing a large amount of *** the study,the changes in storage oil during seed germination and seedling transition from heterotrophic phases were *** results showed that seed oil decreased from 19.53%to 0.88%on the 7th day of seedling *** hydrolysis continued until the 4th day of germination with a low slope,but then increased the use of oils in seed germination end seedling growth *** results indicated that the quantitative changes in fatty acids,presented at lower amount,were relatively higher than dominant fatty *** were decreasing phenolic content in the developing seedlings,but overall,lowest level of total phenolic content can be attributed to the control(30.52 mg⋅100 g⋅Oil^(-1)).In contrast,the maximum peroxide value(2.58 meq⋅kg Oil^(-1))in the developing seedling was observed on the last day of the *** results showed that there was a significant correlation between saturated fatty acid,unsaturated fatty acid,and lipase ***,the correlation between lipase activity and polyunsaturated fatty acids was significantly higher than between lipase activity and monounsaturated fatty acids(R^(2)=90%and R^(2)=77%,respectively).Therefore,the lipolysis process acts selectively in milk thistle *** to the results,C12:0 exhibits a greater impact on the early seedling growth rather than on the germination process and is one of the determining factors in the transition from heterotroph to ***,it can be a marker for TAGs breakdown.

Increasing the population and infrastructure in both emerging and developed countries requires a considerable amount of cement, which significantly affects the environment. The primary materials of concrete (‘cement’) production emit a large quantity of CO2 into the environment. Also, the cost of conventional building materials like cement gives motivation to find geopolymer waste materials for concrete. To reduce harmful effects on the environment and cost of traditional concrete substance, alternative waste materials like rice husk ash (RHA), ground granulated blast-furnace (GGBS), fly ash (FA), and metakaolin (MK) can be used due to their pozzolanic behavior. RHA waste material with a high silica concentration obtained from burning rice husks can possibly be used as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the manufacturing of concrete, and its strong pozzolanic properties can contribute to the strength and impermeability of concrete. This review paper highlights a summary of the positive effect of using RHA as a partial substitute for cement in building construction, as well as its optimal inclusion of enhanced mechanical properties like compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of mortar and concrete.

Woody Species Diversity and Forest Structure from Lowland to Montane Forest in Hyrcanian Forest Ecoregion

Alborz Mountains host Caspian Hyrcanian forest ecoregion along the northern slopes and forest steppe ecoregion in highlands. Hyrcanian forest covers the southeastern part of Caucasus biodiversity hotspot and is of great biogeographic importance. Altitudinal pattern and correlation between woody species biodiversity （DIV）, forest structure （（stem density （DEN）, mean basal area （MBA） and mean height class （MHC）） and disturbance （DIS） were explored along 2,4oo m altitudinal gradient in Hyrcanian relict forest, Central Alborz Mountains. Vegetation changes from lowland forest （LoF） to mid- altitude forest （MiF） and montane forest （MoF） in this area. The altitudinal gradient was divided into twelve 200 m elevational belts. Point centered quarter method （PCQM） with 96 sampling points and 83 vegetation samples by plot method （PM） were used to record field data. Shannon-Wiener index and Pearson coefficient were used for diversity and correlation analysis. The results showed that DEN decreased linearly, MBA and MHC showed relatively hump shaped and DIS showed a reverse hump shaped pattern of change along altitudinal gradient. Woody species diversity decreased non-steadily from LoF to MoF. Transitional vegetations of Carpinus-Fagus and Fagus-Quercus represented higher diversity of woody taxa compared to adjacent homogenous communities. Significant correlation was observed between altitude and all parameters： DEN with MBA, DIS and DIV; MBA with DIS; MHC with DIS along with DIV; and DIS with DIV at the study area scale. Surprisingly,correlation between studied parameters differed within each vegetation type. Altitude probably acts as a proxy for human and environmental driving forces in this area. Stability of warm and wet condition, season length, soil depth along with forest accessibility probably influences the altitudinal pattern of the studied parameters. BACKGROUND: According to the fact that women account for the highest rate of victims of mental health loss during disasters, prioritization of their requirements is of remarkable signifi cance. Therefore, the present study was carried out with the aim to prioritize factors related to women's mental health during an earthquake. METHODS: This study was conducted using the Delphi method in 2017. Participants consisted of experts including psychologists, counselors and psychiatrists, social medicine specialists, and psychiatric-mental health nurses with experience in service and disaster awareness, especially earthquake. They were selected using purposive and snowball sampling methods. The Delphi method was used in 2 rounds with 21 components and the fi nal attendance of 19 participants and the collective agreement of 75%. RESULTS: Of the 21 factors related to women's mental health during the earthquake, the following components were, respectively, preferred by the participants: psychological well-being training, group relationships and support of women in emergency situations, fair treatment in the provision of rights and services to women, crisis awareness and management of behavior and diffi cult conditions, and social security during disasters with the total mean standard deviation (SD) of 13.4 (2.4), 13.0 (2.4), 12.7 (2.5), 12.5 (2.4), and 12.3 (2.2), respectively. CONCLUSION: Training in the fi eld of psychology and disasters, and social and cultural factors were prioritized among factors related to women's mental health during an earthquake. Therefore, the results of this study can be applied by the planners and executives of mental health, women and disasters, and the women's community itself.

The present article aims to investigate the Graetz-Nusselt problem for blood as a non-Newtonian fluid obeying the power-law constitutive equation and flowing inside the axisymmetric tube subjected to nonuniform surface heat *** the flow field is determined by solving the continuity and the momentum equations,the energy equation is handled by employing the separation of variables *** resulting Eigen functions and Eigen values are numerically calculated using MATLAB built-in solver *** analysis is first conducted for the situation of constant heat flux and subsequently generalized to apply to the case of sinusoidal variation of wall heat flux along the tube length,using Duhamel’s ***,an approximate analytic solution is determined,employing an integral approach to solve the boundary layer *** respect to the comparison,the results of approximate solution display acceptable congruence with those of exact solution with an average error of 7.4%.Interestingly,with decreasing the power-law index,the discrepancy between the two presented methods significantly ***,the influences of the controlling parameters such as surface heat flux and power-law index on the non-Newtonian fluid flow’s thermal characteristics and structure are elaborately *** is found that switching from constant wall heat flux to non-uniform wall heat flux that sinusoidally varies along the tube length significantly improves the simulation’s accuracy due to the better characterization of the heat transport phenomenon in non-Newtonian fluid flow through the *** the presence of sinusoidally varying wall heat flux with an amplitude of 200 W/m 2 and when the power-law index is 0.25,the maximum arterial wall temperature is found to be about 311.56 K.
