This work displays a study of the compound multiplicity characteristics of 14.6 and 200 AGeV/c 28Si and 32S-emulsion interactions, where the number of shower and grey particles taken together is termed as compound multiplicity, Nc. It has been found that the average compound multiplicity depends on the mass number of the projectile, Ap, and energy of the projectile. A positive linear dependence of the compound multiplicity on the black, grey, heavy and shower particles has been found. Also the scaling of compound multiplicity distributions produced in these interactions has been studied in order to check the validity of KNO-scaling. A simplified universal function has been used to represent the experimental data. The experimental results have been compared with those obtained by analyzing events generated with the computer code FRITIOF based on Lund Monte Carlo model.

Background and Objectives: Several drugs and methods are used to reduce postoperative shivering, the most common complications occurring after surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the oral Clonidine and Tramadol premedication in reducing postoperative shivering after spinal anesthesia. Materials and Methods: In this study, patients aged 20 - 60 years, based on the American Society of Anesthesia functional class I (Anesthesiologists grade-1), were included in controlled double-blind clinical trials. Each was a candidate of a hydrocele, varicocele, and inguinal hernia under spinal anesthesia. The patients were assigned to three groups and 1 h prior to surgery, group A received 0.2 mg of Clonidine, group B received 50 mg of a Tramadol tablet, and group C received a placebo. We collected information on the severity of shivering, pain intensity levels (VAS score), duration of analgesia, and the patients’ hemodynamic condition at base time of 5, 15, and 30 min and 1, 2, 4, and 6 h postoperatively. Results: The incidence of shivering was significantly lower in the Clonidine group than that in the other groups. Analgesia duration was significantly longer in the Clonidine group than that in the control group. In this study, side effects in different groups were not significantly different from each other. Conclusion: Results of this study showed that the oral administration of Clonidine can be effective in preventing the side effects and shivering after spinal anesthesia.

Background: The optimal surgical technique for lumbar spondylolithesis remains debated. Although posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) theoretically offers more advantages than posterolateral lumbar fusion (PLF), the evidence remains inconclusive. Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of PLIF versus PLF in patients with lumbar spondylolithesis. Patients and Methods: We enrolled 38 patients with lumbar spondylolithesis (degenerative and isthmic) who underwent PLIF (N = 19) or PLF (N = 19). We collected operative data and performed follow-up for 12 months after the surgery. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS software to detected significant differences between both groups. Results: The PLF and PLIF groups exhibited similar pre-operative characteristics between both groups in terms of age (p = 0.57), sex (p = 0.73), clinical presentation (p = 1), required levels of fixation (p = 1), pre-operative VAS score (p = 0.43) or muscle weakness (p = 1). However, the PLIF group had significantly more blood loss and longer operative time than the PLF group. Moreover, both groups had similar levels of postoperative pain (up to six months after surgery), and post-operative complications. The rates of arthrodesis were higher in PLIF group than PLF group within six months while no significant difference within 12 months of follow-up. Conclusion: In our comparative study, we achieved comparison between pedicle screw fixation with posterolateral fusion alone (PLF) in compare with pedicle screw fixation with posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF). Results indicate better results of fusion rate in PLIF as regards arthrodesis with slightly more rate of complication than PLF. So we recommend PLIF in cases of lumbar spondylolithesis than PLF.

Association of Vitamin D Deficiency with Diabetic Retinopathy in Young People with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

Background: Diabetic retinopathy is among the most common diabetic complications, and is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. Recent studies have linked vitamin D to the pathogenesis of diabetes and there is growing evidence that vitamin D can interfere with the mechanisms involved in diabetes and its complications. Despite improvements in treatment, diabetic retinopathy remains a significant complication of type 1 diabetes mellitus. Identification of early treatable predictors of diabetic retinopathy such as vitamin D deficiency, may allow more aggressive management of those at high risk. Purpose: To assess the association of vitamin D deficiency with diabetic retinopathy in young people with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Design: Observational study with case control design. Method: 60 young people with type 1 diabetes aged between 11 to 24 years were included in this study. Among them, 30-young people have diabetic retinopathy and 30-young people do not have diabetic retinopathy. Purposive sampling technique was applied as per inclusion criteria. Statistical analysis of the results was done by using computer-based software, SPSS version 26. P value of less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: Vitamin D deficiency was present in 83% of the young people with diabetic retinopathy and in 53% without diabetic retinopathy. The mean vitamin D level in young people with and without diabetic retinopathy was 17.38 ± 3.77 ng/ml and 20.15 ± 5.06 ng/ml respectively and the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.019). Vitamin D deficiency was increased with the severity of diabetic retinopathy. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression showed vitamin D deficiency was independently associated with diabetic retinopathy with a crude odds ratio of 5.69 with a p value of 0.008 and adjusted odds ratio of 16.08 with a p value of 0.002 respectively. The combined application of organic and mineral fertilizers can be a proper way of nutrition management to increase the yield and quality and to mitigate environmental impacts of chemicals and the pertaining costs. The impact of different rates of sulfur-containing humic acid was studied on yield and nutrient uptake of the fruits of olive “Zard” three-year-old trees in a trial based on a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications in Shariati College of Tehran, Iran. The studied treatment was sulfur-containing humic acid at four rates of 0, 20, 25 and 30 kg⋅ha−1, which was applied at two stages. The highest fresh weight, dry weight, chlorophyll b, carotenoid, N and Cu contents were related to humic acid rate of 20 kg⋅ha−1. The highest fruit length, chlorophyll a and total chlorophyll were observed in control. The highest K, Fe and Mn contents were obtained from plants treated with 30 kg⋅ha−1 humic acid. Plants treated with 25 kg⋅ha−1 exhibited the highest P and Zn contents. All in all, the application of sulfur-containing humic acid at different rates had favorable impacts on quantitative and qualitative traits of olive fruits.

Although federated learning (FL) has become very popular recently， it is vulnerable to gradient leakage attacks. Recent studies have shown that attackers can reconstruct clients’ private data from shared models or gradients. Many existing works focus on adding privacy protection mechanisms to prevent user privacy leakage， such as differential privacy (DP) and homomorphic encryption. These defenses may cause an increase of computation and communication costs or degrade the performance of FL performance. Besides， they do not consider the impact of wireless network resources on the FL training process. Herein， we propose a defense method， weight compression， to prevent gradient leakage attacks for FL over wireless networks. The gradient compression matrix is determined by the user’s location and channel conditions. We also add Gaussian noise to the compressed gradients to strengthen the defense. This joint learning， wireless resource allocation and weight compression matrix is formulated as an optimization problem with the objective of minimizing the FL loss function. To find the solution， we first analyze the convergence rate of FL and quantify the effect of the weight matrix on FL convergence. Then， we seek the optimal resource block (RB) allocation by ant colony optimization (ACO) or exhaustive search and then use CVX toolbox to obtain the optimal weight matrix to minimize the optimization function. The simulation results show that the optimized RB can accelerate the convergence of FL.

Thymidine-containing derivatives are considered to be among the most significant derivatives in medicinal chemistry. In this study, we employed a combined computational approach involving density-functional theory (DFT) calculations, molecular docking simulations, and absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) property predictions. Prediction of activity spectra for substances (PASS) revealed promising antiviral, antimicrobial and anti-carcinogenic activities of these thymidine derivatives. Using Gaussian 09, we optimized the molecular structures of the thymidine derivatives to obtain their stable conformations and calculate their electronic properties. Subsequently, molecular docking simulations were performed to explore the binding interactions between the thymidine derivatives and the active site of the Candida albicans (PDB: 1IYL and 2Y7L) proteins. The docking results were evaluated based on docking scores, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic interactions and revealed favorable binding interactions between the thymidine derivatives and the proteins, suggesting their potential as antifungal agents. The thermodynamic properties, including binding free energy, enthalpy, and entropy changes were determined to assess the stability and strength of the ligands-protein complexes. The calculated pharmacokinetic parameters, such as ADMET properties, provided insights into the drug-likeness and potential bioavailability of the thymidine derivatives. These results offer a foundation for further experimental investigations and the design of novel antifungal agents targeting Candida albicans infections.

Bioconversion of Fish Hatchery Waste as Feed in the Production of Live Feed

Purple Non-Sulfur Bacteria (PNSB), also known as phototrophic bacteria are widely distributed in both freshwater and marine environment and capable to grow in wide range of substrates. In this study, Bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides strain UMS2, a freshwater isolate was used in this study in utilization of fish hatchery waste. This study was conducted to determine the nutritional values of bioprocess product that was grown in fish hatchery waste. Finally, the waste bio-converted product was used as feed supplement to monitor the growth performance of live feed Tubifex spp. Inoculum of Rhodobacter sphaeroides strain UMS2 was developed in 112 synthetic media and 48-h culture of 30% (v/v) inoculum was used in fish hatchery waste during the bioprocess. The nutritional values of bio-converted product, except total ash (%), were not significantly improved with 30% (v/v) inoculum of Rhodobacter sphaeroides, strain UMS2. Feeding trial in bloodworm (Tubifex spp.) with bioconversion product conducted for 15 days to monitor growth (w/v) of live feed.
