Understanding foraging strategies of birds is essential to understanding mechanisms of their community assembly. To provide such information on a key Southeast Asian rainforest family, the babblers (Timaliidae), we evaluated foraging behavior and abundance in 7 morphologically and behaviorally similar sympatric species (, , , , , and ) in 5 habitats defined by structural complexity: (1) continuous native rainforest, (2) logged native rainforest fragments, (3) mature industrial tree plantation, (4) young industrial plantation, and (5) oil palm plantation. Enough data were obtained to compare abundance in all 7 species and foraging behavior in 5. All species were common in forest fragments and mature industrial tree plantations and less so in continuous rainforest and young industrial plantations; only occurred in oil palm. In terms of foraging, was the greatest generalist; foraged mainly on live leaves in the forest midstory; and , , and foraged mainly on dead leaves suspended in understory vegetation at significantly different heights. The dead-leaf substrate depends on a rich supply of falling leaves and extensive understory structure, conditions most common in native forest and old industrial plantations, and less so in mature forest, young plantations, and oil palm. Because of the importance of foraging data to understanding and managing biodiversity, we encourage the development of foraging fields in eBird (***), so that birdwatchers may help collect these relatively rare data.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa recognized as opportunistic pathogen causes severe infections for hospitalized patients, survive in and resist many antimicrobial agents like antibiotics and disinfectants. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of EDTA in improving the sensitivity of resistant P. aeruginosa strains to disinfectants and Na-citrate. The strains used in this study were selected in house from Tanta University hospital, Egypt and tested for the synergistic effect of EDTA with Na-citrate or disinfectant(s). The results showed a significant effect of EDTA in improving P. aeruginosa sensitivity. In conclusion, we proposed that using EDTA in combination with different sanitization compounds and antimicrobial agents especially in hospitals aiming to control the spreading of infections.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is considered the causative pathogen of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and has become an international danger to human *** respiratory transmission and symptoms are still the essential manifestations of COVID-19,the digestive system could be an unconventional or supplementary route for COVID-19 to be transmitted and manifested,most likely due to the presence of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)in the gastrointestinal *** addition,SARS-CoV-2 can trigger hepatic injury via direct binding to the ACE2 receptor in cholangiocytes,antibodydependent enhancement of infection,systemic inflammatory response syndrome,inflammatory cytokine storms,ischemia/reperfusion injury,and adverse events of treatment *** symptoms,including anorexia,nausea,vomiting,and diarrhea,which are unusual in patients with COVID-19,and some digestive signs may occur without other respiratory ***,SARS-CoV-2 can be found in infected patients’stool,demonstrating the likelihood of transmission through the fecal-oral *** addition,liver function should be monitored during COVID-19,particularly in more severe *** review summarizes the evidence for extra-pulmonary manifestations,mechanisms,and management of COVID-19,particularly those related to the gastrointestinal tract and liver.

The relationships between vertebrate pests and crop damage are often complex and difficult to *** palm oil plantations rodents remain the major pests,causing substantial monetary *** present study examined the numerical and functional responses of rodents to changes in the availability of oil palm fruit and the damage associated with that *** the study,200 traps were set in pairs on a 10×10 trapping grid for 3 consecutive nights in each of 6 study plots at 8-week intervals in a 2569 ha oil palm plantation at Labu,Negeri Sembilan state in Peninsular Malaysia over 14 months.A total of 1292 individual rats were captured over 25200 *** were identified,aged,sexed,weighed and *** index of the relative abundance of rats was calculated based on trapping *** to infructescences was assessed at each trap *** of the age of palms,there were positive and significant relationships between the relative abundance of rats and numbers of *** levels of damage to infructescences were significantly correlated with the relative abundance of rats.A steep increase in damage was observed with an increase in mature infructescences,indicating a feeding preference of rats for mature *** both males and females of all rat species,there were weak and non-significant correlations between body condition and infructescence *** results indicated that there was a numerical and a functional response by rats to the availability of palm fruit and a resulting increase in depredation of oil palm *** ways in which this information might aid in future pest control are discussed.

Outcomes of curative liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with cirrhosis

BACKGROUND Given the poor synthetic function of cirrhotic liver,successful resection for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)necessitates the ability to achieve resections with tumor free *** To validate post hepatectomy liver failure score(PHLF),compare it to other established systems and to stratify risks in patients with cirrhosis who underwent curative liver resection for *** Between December 2010 and January 2017,120 patients underwent curative resection for HCC in patients with cirrhosis were included,the pre-operative,operative and post-operative factors were recorded to stratify patients'risks of decompensation,survival,and *** The preoperative model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score[odds ratio(OR)=2.7,95%CI:1.2-5.7,P=0.013],tumor diameter(OR=5.4,95%CI:2-14.8,P=0.001)and duration of hospital stay(OR=2.5,95%CI:1.5-4.2,P=0.001)were significant independent predictors of hepatic decompensation after *** the preoperative MELD score[hazard ratio(HR)=1.37,95%CI:1.16-1.62,P<0.001]and different grades of PHLF(grade A:HR=2.33,95%CI:0.59-9.24;Grade B:HR=3.15,95%CI:1.11-8.95;Grade C:HR=373.41,95%CI:66.23-2105.43;P<0.001)and HCC recurrence(HR=11.67,95%CI:4.19-32.52,P<0.001)were significant independent predictors for *** Preoperative MELD score and tumor diameter can independently predict hepatic ***,preoperative MELD score,different grades of PHLF and HCC recurrence can precisely predict survival.

Contagious bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an infectious and highly contagious respiratory disease of cattle and water buffalo, caused by the Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides. It induces significant economic losses and leads to a severe livestock production problem, negatively influencing people’s livelihoods of affected countries. In Somalia, there is no updated data on the prevalence and distribution of the disease. Hence, a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2022 to June 2023 in different villages under the Afgoye District of lower Shabelle region, Somalia. The main purpose of this study is to assess the sero-prevalence and identify the associated risk factors for the occurrence of the disease. In this study, villages, age, sex, breed, and body condition were considered as risk factors. A total of 90 blood samples were collected and tested in the laboratory using the Anti-CBPP Elisa kit test. Out of 90 serum samples from herd cattle, 32 were positive, resulting in an overall prevalence of 35.5%. In addition, we found a statistically significant variation between the prevalence of the disease and factors such as sex, age, body condition and breeds. In summary, the overall prevalence of Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in this study area is worth to be considered because there is a low quality of health care and less awareness of the Contagious bovine Pleuropneumonia effects on herds, which warrants the official authorities to act and follow appropriate preventive and control measures to reduce the incidence of the disease and generate appropriate controlling and prevention measures in all regions of Somalia.

Detecting Accuracy of Three Dimensional Power Doppler (3DPD) Vascular Indices for Prenatal Diagnosis of Morbidly Adherent Placenta in Patients with Placenta Previa

Objective:?The study’s objective was to assess the accuracy of using prenatal 3-dimensional power Doppler analysis of vascular placental indices to accurately diagnose morbidly adherent placenta objectively. Background:?Traditionally, 2D ultrasound was used for the diagnosis of a suspected morbidly adherent placenta (MAP) previa. More objective techniques like 3D power Doppler haven’t been well studied. Study Design:?A prospective cohort study?is?designed for women with gestational age between 28 and?32 weeks with suspected placenta previa. Patients were examined by 2D ultrasound which was used in management decisions.?3D Power Doppler’s VI, FI and VFI were measured during the same examination after manual tracing of placenta;data were blinded to obstetricians. Histopathology was performed to confirm MAP. Results: Our results showed that the 3D power Doppler VI ≥ 16 predicted the diagnosis of MAP with 100% sensitivity, 100% specificity which is better than those of 2D ultrasound. While VI > 33.1 measured by 3D Doppler predicted severe MAP with a sensitivity of 73.9% and specificity of 86.4%, which was superior to 2D ultrasound. Conclusion:?In patients with placenta previa, the 3D Doppler’s vascular index accurately predicts MAP. Furthermore, vascular and vascular flow indices of 3D Doppler were more predictive of severe cases of MAP compared to 2D ultrasound.

The Prevalence and Clinical Manifestations of Co-Infection in Pediatric Infectious Mononucleosis: A Single-Centered, Retrospective Study

Background: Recent studies indicate that the incidence of infectious mononucleosis (IM) has increased in China. Furthermore, it has been shown that children diagnosed with IM are prone to acquiring other pathogens. However, there is limited research on the prevalence of these co-infections in children with IM. Thus, we conducted this study to determine the prevalence of coinfections and common pathogens, as well as to compare clinical manifestations in children with and without coinfections. Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, with data from January 2018 to January 2023. Data, including demographics, symptoms, lab results, and complications, were collected from the hospital’s electronic database and analyzed. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests and Mann-Whitney tests to compare the means of continuous variables. Statistical significance was determined by p-values less than 0.05. Results: The study involved 216 participants diagnosed with IM, predominantly males (61.6%) aged 0 - 4 years (50.9%). Coinfection was detected in 39.8% of children, with multiple pathogens present in 33.72% of these cases. Among coinfection cases, 40% occurred in children under 5 years old, and females made up 54.2% of these cases. Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) was the most prevalent pathogen, accounting for 18.1% of cases. Influenza B (IFB) and Influenza A (IFA) viruses were found in 16.7% and 13.9% of participants, respectively, indicating a notable occurrence of respiratory pathogen coinfections. Male gender, fever, tonsillopharyngitis, lower HGB levels, higher ESR, CRP, and AST levels were correlated with coinfections. Conclusion: In summary, the study revealed a high prevalence of coinfections among children diagnosed with IM, particularly involving Mycoplasma pneumoniae and influenza viruses. 随着遥感设备和技术的快速发展,我们可以通过多光谱/高光谱图像和合成孔径雷达来得到更多深入观察地球的机会。遥感设备帮助我们捕捉到越来越多不同类型、不同分辨率(空间分辨率、光谱分辨率和时间分辨率)的机载或卫星图像。这些图像的高维度成为特高分辨率(High Resolution,HR)场景分类的巨大挑战之一,同时也要求采用更有效的方法来实现土地利用及覆盖的图像场景分类,这也是遥感图像领域中最重要的任务之一。HR图像场景分类中最重要的一步是特征提取,它将图像场景表示成特征向量的形式。根据像素级/图像级的表示可以将已有的HR图像场景描述方法分成三类,这些方法都直接依赖于图像场景的全局表示。本文我们关注于HR图像场景分类中的特征提取方法,提出能够对HR图像场景中带有不同几何性质的区域如机场、建筑、森林等进行准确分类的技术。目前已有若干应用与监控人类活动下的自然环境密切相关,而HR图像则为他们提供了非常有用的信息。HR图像场景分类致力于提取能够表示目标区域的特征,但与HR图像相关的大规模数据却使得分类问题变得非常复杂,而目前可用的方法仍然不足以来分析这类遥感数据。基于此,为了增强自动提取HR图像场景中有用特征的能力,本文的总体目标是提出创新的技术来对HR图像进行分析和分类。具体来讲,本文主要考虑以下几个问题:根据特定的语义类别集合来标注HR图像场景是一件十分重要的任务。考虑到属于同一类别的地表可能有着非常大的变化,且目标可能出现在不同的尺度和方向上,我们提出了一个基于CNN模型的HR图像语义分类方法。首先,我们采用在Image Net数据集上预训练的VGG模型来对原始的HR图像提取特征。接着,VGG网络的全连接层输出将被联合起来形成HR图像场景的最终表示。第二,我们选择VGG-Net构造的全连接层,其中每一层可视为分离的特征描述子。然后我们把它们放到自编码器中来构造HR图像场景的最终表示。我们对HR图像场景分类的相关文献进行了深入的研究,并在2节就现有方法的局限性进行了说明。为了解决这些问题,我们提出了若干创新方法,并在真实遥感图像上进行了实验验证。大量的实验结果表明,本文所提出的方法在HR图像场景分类任务上是十分有效的。

Effect of Interaction Phenolic Compounds with Milk Proteins on Cell Line

Plant flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds, commonly found in vegetables, fruits and many food sources that form a significant portion of our diet. These compounds act as anticancer and anti-proliferative but after interaction with milk proteins they form complexes which become less effective than these compounds alone. Investigation has been conducted to delineate the action of some phenolic compounds of natural origin and complexes formed from interactions between phenolic compounds and milk proteins in three human tumors cell lines: Breast (MCF7), Liver (HePG2) and colon (HCT116), these interactions were studied by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Phenolic compounds have positive effect on human cancer cell lines but after interaction with milk protein and forming complexes, they become less effective than phenolics and some time have negative effect and become pro-cancer;this interaction can be studied by (FTIR) to know which groups do this complex. The spectra were recorded under conditions generally applied in quantitative work. IR spectra were recorded in the region from 4000 - 250 cm–1, but the bands in the region 4000 - 1400 cm–1 were analyzed in detail, since they are characteristic of OH groups while NH groups appeared at (3000 - 4000 cm–1) of various protonic species that undergo hydrogen bonding interaction. Another region of interest was the region from 1800 - 1400 cm–1, characteristic of the bending vibrations of the same group. Since the bands in this region were wide and complex.
