Jellyfish-inspired alginate composite hydrogel filter prepared by macro-micro double bionic strategy for efficient water purification

Recently,research on hydrogel materials with a porous structure and superior water absorption capabilities significantly ***,the hydrogel under gravity-driven separation conditions often exhibit an unstable pore structure,poor mechanical properties,and limited *** this end,this work presents a novel approach that combines a macro-micro double bionic strategy with a triple crosslinking method to develop a multifunctional alginate composite hydrogel filter(2%-SA-κCG-PVA-Ca^(2+),2%-SkP-Ca^(2+)for short)with a stable pore structure and superior mechanical properties,which possessed an umbrella-shaped structure resembling that of *** 2%-SkPCa^(2+)filter was synthesized using polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)as a stable structure-directing agent,and sodium alginate(SA)andκ-carrageenan(κ-CG)as polymer *** distinctive umbrellashaped hydrogel of 2%-SkP-Ca^(2+)filter,formed through the triple crosslinking method,overcomes the limitations of unstable pore structure and poor durability seen in hydrogels prepared by traditional crosslinking ***,the utilization of the 2%-SkP-Ca^(2+)filter in water treatment demonstrates its good selective permeability,excellent resistance to fouling,and extended longevity,which enables it to simultaneously achieve the multifunctional water purification and the coating of multi-substrate anti-fouling ***,not only does this research provide an efficient,multifunctional,highly pollution-resistant preparation method for designing a new filter,but it also confirms the application prospect of the macro-micro dual bionic strategy developed in this study in complex water treatment.

Hyperuricemia is an alarming issue that contributes to cardiovascular *** acid(UA)level was proven to be related to pulse wave velocity,a marker of arterial stiffness.A hyperuricemia prediction method utilizing photoplethysmogram(PPG)and arteriograph by using machine learning(ML)is *** the literature search,there is no available papers found that relates PPG with UA level even though PPG is highly associated with vessel *** five phases in this research are data collection,signal preprocessing including denoising and signal quality indexes,features extraction for PPG and SDPPG waveform,statistical analysis for feature selection and classification of UA levels using *** PPG to the current arteriograph able to reduce cost and increase the prediction *** and arteriograph data were measured from 113 subjects,and 226 sets of data were collected from the left and right hands of the *** performance of four types of ML,namely,artificial neural network(ANN),linear discriminant analysis(LDA),k-nearest neighbor(kNN),and support vector machine(SVM)in predicting hyperuricemia was *** the total of 98 features extracted,16 features of which showed statistical significance for hyper and *** gives the best performance compared to the other three ML techniques with 91.67%,95.45%,and 94.12%for sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy,*** from PPG and arteriograph able to be used to predict hyperuricemia accurately and *** study is the first to find the relationship of PPG with *** shows a significant relation between PPG signals and arteriograph data toward the UA *** proposed method of UA prediction shows its potential for noninvasive preliminary assessment.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is characterized as a disease caused by a novel coronavirus known as severe acute respiratory coronavirus syndrome 2(SARS-CoV-2;formerly known as 2019-nCoV).In December 2019,COVID-19 began to appear in a few *** the beginning of 2020,it had spread to most countries across the *** is when education challenges began to *** COVID-19 crisis led to the closure of thousands of schools and universities all over the *** a situation requires reliance on e-learning and robotics education for students to continue their studies to avoid the mingling between people and *** relation to this alternative learning solution,the present study was conducted.A systematic literature review on educational robotics(ER)keywords between 2015–2020 was carried out for the purpose to review a total of 2253 articles from the selected sources;Scopus(452),Taylor&Francis(311),Science Direct(427),IEEE Xplore(221),and Web of Science(842).This review procedure was labelled as Taxonomy *** ltering Taxonomy 1,it was found that 98 scientic articles formed the so-called Taxonomy II that was categorized into six categories:(i)Robotics concepts,(ii)Device,(iii)Robotic applications,(iv)Manufacturing robots,(v)Robotics analysis,and(vi)Education/*** this study,only 35 articles in this specic eld were selected,of which were then assigned into three categories:(i)Application,(ii)Platform,and(iii)*** results show that the application category carries 17.4%,platform 20%,and education 22.85%.This study serves as the application platform to help students,academics,and researchers.

Laboratory efficacy of mycoparasitic fungi(Aspergillus tubingensis and Trichoderma harzianum) against tropical bed bugs(Cimex hemipterus)(Hemiptera:Cimicidae)

Objective: To test the effectiveness of conidial spore formulations [Aspergillus tubingensis(***) and Trichoderma harzianum(***)] against tropical bed bugs, Cimex ***: Spore formulations were made from two fungal strains, *** and *** bed bugs were exposed to the conidial spores placed soaked onto a fabric cloth for 1 h and the mortality counts were recorded daily until 14 ***: Mean survival times based on kaplan–Meier survival analysis showed no significant differences between all the concentrations in both the fungal isolates:*** and ***, the evaluation of both the isolates in terms of virulence resulted in low lethal hours in all the concentrations except for the high concentration of ***(LT_(50)= 44.629 h) at the conidial exposure of 1 × 10~6 spores/*** mortality of the bed bugs was observed from Day 6 to Day 12, ranging from 13% to 90% in all three concentrations of *** reference to the *** exposure, the concentration of 1 × 10~4 spores/mL displayed a gradual increase in the percentage mortality of 90 on Day ***: Approaches to the bed bugs treatment should be explored in-depth using a natural biological agent like fungus especially *** to reduce this pest population, in order to replace chemical methods.

Background: Post-hepatectomy liver failure(PHLF) is a leading cause of postoperative mortality after liver surgery. Due to its significant impact, it is imperative to understand the risk stratification and preventative strategies for PHLF. The main objective of this review is to highlight the role of these strategies in a timeline centered way around curative resection. Data sources: This review includes studies on both humans and animals, where they addressed PHLF. A literature search was conducted across the Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE/Pub Med, and Web of knowledge electronic databases for English language studies published between July 1997 and June 2020. Studies presented in other languages were equally considered. The quality of included publications was assessed using Downs and Black’s checklist. The results were presented in qualitative summaries owing to the lack of studies qualifying for quantitative analysis. Results: This systematic review with 245 studies, provides insight into the current prediction, prevention, diagnosis, and management options for PHLF. This review highlighted that liver volume manipulation is the most frequently studied preventive measure against PHLF in clinical practice, with modest improvement in the treatment strategies over the past decade. Conclusions: Remnant liver volume manipulation is the most consistent preventive measure against PHLF.

Cost analysis of childhood glaucoma surgeries using the US Medicaire allowable costs

AIM: To analyze and calculate the relative cost of various childhood glaucoma surgical interventions per mm Hg intraocular pressure(IOP) reduction($/mm Hg).METHODS: Representative index studies were reviewed to quantitate the reduction of mean IOP and glaucoma medications for each surgical intervention in childhood glaucoma. A US perspective was adopted, using Medicare allowable costs to calculate cost/mm Hg IOP reduction($/mm Hg) at 1y ***: At 1y postoperatively, the cost/mm Hg IOP reduction was $226/mm Hg for microcatheter-assisted circumferential trabeculotomy, $284/mm Hg for cyclophotocoagulation, $288/mm Hg for conventional ab-externo trabeculotomy, $338/mm Hg for Ahmed glaucoma valve, $350/mm Hg for Baerveldt glaucoma implant, $351/mm Hg for goniotomy, and $400/mm Hg for ***: Microcatheter-assisted circumferential trabeculotomy is the most cost-efficient surgical method to lower IOP in childhood glaucoma, while trabeculectomy is the least cost-efficient surgical method.

L-ornithine is a metabolic product of L-arginine and is found in the liver and other tissues after the enzyme arginase in the urea cycle catalyses the *** presence of L-ornithine has an influence on certain biochemical activities such as the proliferation of collagen production and also has an effect on airway ***,it has a role to play in the availability of nitric oxide(NO).A brief reactivity study was carried out for various substituents at the α-C atom of this amino *** such as chlorine and fluorine affect the reactivity of the entire molecule and may alter the properties of the amino *** understand the properties of molecule,a detailed study was done at the density functional theory(DFT) level and compared with ab initio *** functions were invoked to assess reactivity and *** descriptive properties were correlated to logP or pka using available software to help build a model to quantitatively assess properties and *** showed a random reactivity pattern upon halogen substitution and this indicates the need to exercise caution during docking and reactivity studies.

Electrocatalytic Reduction of Oxygen at Perovskite (BSCF)-MWCNT Composite Electrodes

A composite paste electrode based on Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF)—initially synthesized by solgel method—and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) as a cathode in fuel cells is developed. The composite pastes are prepared by the direct mixing of BSCF:MWCNT at 90:10, 80:20 and 70:30 (% w/W). These electrodes are then characterized by the x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The XRD and SEM confirm the inclusion and the uniform dispersal of the MWCNT within BSCF, respectively. The nitrogen adsorption isotherm study shows that the porosity of the composite paste electrode has been improved by two-fold from the BSCF electrode. The EIS and CV demonstrate that the higher ratios of MWCNT in the composites are critical in improving the electronic conductivity as well as the kinetics. It is also noticeable that the electrode has increased the catalysis of oxygen in 0.1 M kOH (pH 12.0). Cyclic voltammetric studies on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) suggest that the incorporation of MWCNT is vital in improving the electrode (cathode) properties of a fuel cell.

Stimulation of Multiple Leader Formation in Some Genotypes of Acacia mangiumand Acacia auriculiformiswith 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP)

Acacia mangium Willd. and Acacia auriculiformis A. Cunn. ex. Benth. are two of the fast-growing tropical acacias which have received priority for genetic assessment and improvement. They were therefore proposed for timber production in a short rotation in Malaysia but were impeded by the multiple leaders (ML) formation which limited their value as sawn timber. This work attempts to investigate the causes of ML formation in four genotypes of A. mangium and A. auriculiformis as related to apical dominance, nutrition and plant growth hormones and their correlations. The effects of 6-benzylaminopurine and decapitation on ML formation of these genotypes were also investigated. 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) as a foliar spray and also decapitation did not stimulate ML formation. However, they significantly increased the number of branches and reduced all other growth traits including height. However, basal diameter was not affected by decapitation. The effects of BAP increased consistently with increasing level of application. BAP at 1500 mg·Lǃ resulted in mortality of A. mangium provenances while A. auriculiformis provenances survived and grew normally. Some of the BAP treated plants of both species developed juvenile pinnate leaves. Decapitation of the apical bud resulted in the activation of the lateral bud immediately below the point of decapitation.

Effects of Site Burning on Multiple Leader Formation and Growth Performance of Selected AcaciaGenotypes

Loss of apical dominance, resulting in seedlings with more than one leader, generally referred to as multiple leaders (ML), has been a major problem in forest tree plantation in the tropics. A study to examine the effects of site preparation by burning on growth performance and multiple leaders (ML) formation, and its variation in eight-genotypes of Acacia mangium and Acacia auriculiformis was conducted. The design used for this field trial is a randomized complete block design with four replications at two sites (burnt and unburned) and eight genotypes (four from each species), and the effects were monitored for 24 months. There were significant differences at P A. mangium provenances were more responsive to burning than A. auriculiformis, whereas at the unburned site, the variation between them was not significant. Based on the above variation, it can be concluded that burning causes ML formation and can affect the growth of these selected Acacia genotypes.
