NAT2 polymorphism in Omani gastric cancer patients-risk predisposition and clinicopathological associations

AIM： To study whether N-acetyltransferase 2 （NAT2） genotypes and phenotypes are associated with increased risk factor for gastric cancer in Omani patients and to study the clinico-pathological correlations and the prognostic significance of NAT2. METHODS： Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 100 gastric cancer patients and 100 control subjects. NAT2 genotyping was performed using DNA sequencing. The prognostic significance of NAT2 and other clinicopathological features was assessed by univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS： We observed no significant association between NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes and gastric cancer risk. The IVAT2 phenotype polymorphisms and gastric cancer risk predisposition were not modified by concomitant Hpylori infection and smoking. There was no significant association between NAT2 and clinicopathological features, and NAT2 had no independent prognostic significance. CONCLUSION： In the current study, NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes are not associated with gastric cancer risk predisposition. Moreover NAT2 phenotypes had no clinicopathological associations or prognostic significance.

Reservoir quality evaluation of the Narimba Formation in Bass Basin,Australia:Implications from petrophysical analysis,sedimentological features,capillary pressure and wetting fluid saturation

The evaluation of reservoir quality was accomplished on the Late Paleocene to Early Eocene Narimba Formation in Bass Basin,*** study involved combination methods such as petrophysical analysis,petrography and sedimentological studies,reservoir quality and fluid flow units from derivative parameters,and capillary pressure and wetting fluid saturation *** and diagenetic features are affecting the reservoir ***,compaction,and presence of clay minerals such as kaolinite are found to reduce the quality while dissolution and secondary porosity are noticed to improve *** is believed that the Narimba Formation is a potential reservoir with a wide range of porosity and *** ranges from 3.1%to 25.4%with a mean of 15.84%,while permeability ranges between 0.01 mD and 510 mD,with a mean of 31.05 *** on the heterogenous lithology,the formation has been categorized into five groups based on permeability *** I showed an excellent to good quality reservoir with coarse *** impacts of both textural and diagenetic features improve the reservoir and producing higher reservoir quality index(RQI)and flow zone indicators(FZI)as well as mostly mega *** non-wetting fluid migration has the higher possibility to flow in the formation while displacement pressure recorded as *** II showed a fair quality reservoir with lower petrophysical properties in macro *** irreducible water saturation is increasing while the textural and digenetic properties are still enhancing the reservoir *** III reflects lower quality reservoir with mostly macro pores and higher displacement *** may indicate smaller grain size and increasing amount of cement and clay *** IV,and V are interpreted as a poor-quality reservoir that has lower RQI and *** textural and digenetic features are negatively affecting the reservoir and are leading to smaller pore size and pore throat radii(r35)

Coating powder beds with liquids and foams based on viscous formulations using a twin screw mixer: A continuous process study

Coating with viscous formulations has been essential in numerous industries as it can be a means for providing functionalization, additional properties, as well as other benefits. However, there have been scarce studies that have investigated and proposed methodologies in literature. Continuous coating of powders with viscous liquids poses as a promising technology, which has been mentioned in some studies, but has not yet been thoroughly investigated. This paper employs the use of image processing and analysis, in combination with statistical analysis of particles to evaluate the effectiveness of foams and liquids as a means of coating powder beds. Two different sizes of twin screw mixers that are working in continuous operation are employed, and a new continuous foaming device is fabricated and used for the experiments of coating. The effect of materials and process parameters (as for example rotational speed, and flowrate) on the quality of coating are investigated. Image analysis is used to assess the coating quality. The results clearly showcase the potential of using twin screw mixers for coating purposes and not only for mixing. The hypothesis that using large bubble foams to improve the coating of viscous liquids on particles is proven correct, as they provide higher quality coatings compared to their equivalent liquids, when used in the twin screw mixer. Surprisingly, using a larger scale twin screw mixer, does not show a substantial effect on the mixing, regarding quality, however there is still a requirement for mix optimization for achieving scale-up of this process. These results provide a new pathway for coating powders with viscous formulations in industrial applications, requiring less energy and effort in this process, and can pave the way towards introducing more sustainable industrial methodologies for coating. Controlling Congestion in al-Seeb Highway Using Ramp Metering (Case Study)

This paper represents a case study of traffic congestion within a section on al Seeb Street highway due to the on-ramp merging of vehicles that causes a bottleneck in the mainline road. It studies the efficiency of installing ramp metering within a ramp within the selected study zone. This is done by simulating the collected data using Vissim software by drawing three one-hour-long scenarios;the first scenario reflects the data collected for 30 minutes duration and is used as a base scenario to draw the other two scenarios, which are reflected as factored-up scenarios to create a situation observed in the early morning in the study zone at 6:00-7:00 in which slowing down of speeds exist, and breakdown is raised in working days. The two factoring-up scenarios were as follows: one without ramp metering and the other without ramp metering. Each scenario was calibrated and run five times with random seeds, and then the average was considered. The simulation examines the ability of RM to smooth traffic in mainline and reduce queuing on on-ramp roads within the selected study zone by comparing the performance of the network for the scenarios and comparing them in terms of the overall delays, number of stops and the average speeds for the vehicles within the mainline. The results showed a good performance reflected by the scenario with ramp metering with a reduction of the overall delay, a decrease in stops number and an increase of the average speed were achieved. For the base scenario, a visualization (video extracted from Vissim software) was extracted, showing no need to install RM with an associated table showing a number of stops equal to zero with an average speed of 102.74 km/h and a total delay of 6045 seconds.
