Magnesium and aluminum alloys continually attract interest as lightweight structural materials for transport applications. However, joining these dissimilar alloys is very challenging. The main obstacle that hinders progress in dissimilar Mg-Al joining is the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds(IMCs). As a solid-state joining technique, FSW is an excellent candidate to attenuate the deleterious IMC effects in dissimilar Al-Mg joining due to the inherent low heat inputs involved in the process. However, the IMCs, namely Al_(3)Mg_(2) and Al_(12)Mg_(17) phases, have also been reported to form during Al-Mg dissimilar FSW;their amount and thickness depend on the heat input involved;thus,the weld parameters used. Since the heat dissipated in the material during the welding process significantly affects the amount of IMCs,the heat input during FSW should be kept as low as possible to control and reduce the amount of IMCs. This review aims to critically discuss and evaluate the studies conducted in the dissimilar Al/Mg FSW through a scientometric analysis and also with a focus on the strategies recently applied to enhance joint quality. The scientometric analysis showed that the main research directions in Mg/Al FSW are the technological weldability of aluminum and magnesium during FSW, structural morphology, and mechanical properties of dissimilar welded joints. Considering the scope of application of the aforementioned joints, the low share of articles dealing with environmental degradation and operational cracking is surprising. This might be attributed to the need for well-developed strategies for obtaining high-quality and sustainable joints for applications. Thus, the second part of this review is conventional, focusing mainly on the new strategies for obtaining high-quality Mg/Al joints. The global burden of hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)infections and coinfection represents a major public health concern,particularly in resource-limited *** of HCV by 2030 has become foreseeable,with effective direct-acting antiviral oral therapies and the availability of affordable generics in low-and-middle-income countries(LMICs).However,access to oral nucleos(t)ide therapy for HBV remains critical and is limited outside the existing global HIV program platforms despite affordable *** of mother-to-child transmission of HBV through scaling up of birth dose implementation in LMICs is essential to achieve the 2030 elimination *** individuals living with HBV and/or HCV in resource-limited settings are unaware of their infection,and with improved access to medications,the most significant barrier remains access to affordable diagnostics and preventive *** coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic interrupted hepatitis elimination programs,albeit offered opportunities for improved diagnostic capacities and raised political awareness of the critical need for strengthening health care services and universal health *** review underpins the HBV and HCV management challenges in resource-limited settings,highlighting the current status and suggested future elimination strategies in some of these *** efforts should continue to improve awareness and political *** resources should be secured to access and implement comprehensive strategies for diagnosis and linkage to care in resource-constrained settings to fulfill the 2030 elimination goal.

Transient elastography compared to liver biopsy and morphometry for predicting fibrosis in pediatric chronic liver disease: Does etiology matter?

AIM: To evaluate transient elastography (TE) as a noninvasive tool in staging liver fibrosis compared with liver biopsy and morphometry in children with different chronic liver ***: A total of 90 children [50 with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV), 20 with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and 20 with Wilson disease] were included in the study and underwent liver stiffness measurement (LSM) using TE. Liver biopsies were evaluated for fibrosis, qualitatively, by Ishak score and quantitatively by fibrosis area fraction (FAF) using digital image analysis (morphometry). LSM was correlated with fibrosis and other studied variables using spearman correlation. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was also performed to examine independent factors associated with LSM. Different cut-off values of LSM were calculated for predicting individual fibrosis stages using receiver-operating characteristic curve. Cut-off values with optimal clinical performance (optimal sensitivity and specificity simultaneously) were ***: The majority of HCV group had minimal activity (80%) and no/mild fibrosis (72%). On the other hand, the majority of AIH group had mild to moderate activity (70%) and moderate to severe fibrosis (95%) and all Wilson disease group had mild to moderate activity (100%) and moderate to severe fibrosis (100%). LSM correlated significantly with both FAF and Ishak scores and the correlation appeared better with the latter (r = 0.839 vs 0.879, P < 0.0001 for both). LSM discriminated individual stages of fibrosis with high performance. Sensitivity ranged from 81.4% to 100% and specificity ranged from 75.0% to 97.2%. When we compared LSM values for the same stage of fibrosis, they varied according to the different etiologies. Higher values were in AIH (16.15 ± 7.23 kPa) compared to Wilson disease (8.30 ± 0.84 kPa) and HCV groups (7.43 ± 1.73 kPa). Safety and efficacy of posterior sub-Tenon＇s carboplatin injection versus intravitreal melphalan therapy in the management of retinoblastoma with secondary vitreous seeds

AIM： To evaluate the safety and efficacy of posterior sub-Tenon＇s carboplatin injection compared to intravitreal melphalan injection in the management of retinoblastoma （RB） with secondary vitreous seeds. The outcome measures were vitreous seeds regression, need for other treatment modalities to achieve ocular salvage and treatment side effects. METHODS： A prospective interventional comparative nonrandomized study included RB eyes developed secondary vitreous seeds during the period of follow up. They subdivided into two groups： study group Ⅰ where posterior sub-Tenon＇s carboplatin （20 mg/2 mL） was injected and study group Ⅱ where intravitreal melphalan （20 μg/0.1 mL） was injected. The injections repeated every 2-4wk. RESULTS： Thirty-three eyes were included in the study. Seventeen eyes （16 patients） in study group Ⅰ and 16 eyes （16 patients） in study group Ⅱ. Ten eyes （30.3%） were completely salvaged following local chemotherapies, Ocular salvage was 23.5% following posterior sub-Tenon＇s carboplatin injection versus 37.5% following intravitreal melphalan raised to 47.1% and 75% with addition of external beam radiotherapy （EBR） with no statistically significant difference between the study groups （P=0.16）. A statistically significant correlation was found between ocular salvage rate and type of vitreous seeds either dust, spheres and clouds （r=0.42, P=-0.015） and eyes harbor new solid tumor growth （r=0.35, P=0.045）. The mean and median follow up periods following local chemotherapy injections were 2.0y in the study group Ⅰand 2.37y in the study group Ⅱ. Few complications were reported： periorbital edema in all eyes and ocular motility disturbances in 13 eyes （76.5%） following posterior sub-Tenon＇s carboplatin injection. Vitreous hemorrhage developed in 2 eyes （12.5%） and localized retinopathy in 5 eyes （31.25%） following intravitreal melphalan. ~ CONCLUSION： Local chemotherapy for treatment of RB with secondary vitreous seeds is safe and can salvage 30.3% of eyes

Climate change impact and adaptation on wheat yield, water use and water use efficiency at North Nile Delta

Investigation of climate change impacts on food security has become a global hot *** so,efforts to mitigate these issues in arid regions have been ***,in this paper,further research is discussed based on data obtained from various crop and climate *** DSSATcrop models(CMs)(CERESWheat and N-Wheat)were calibrated with two wheat cultivars(Gemiza9 and Misr1).A baseline simulation(1981-2010)was compared with different scenarios of simulations using three Global Climate Models(GCMs)for the 2030s,2050s and *** impacts of climate change were assessed using the GCMs and CMs under the high emission Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP8.5).Results predicted decreased wheat grain yields by a mean of 8.7%,11.4%and 13.2%in the 2030s,2050s and 2080s,respectively,relative to the baseline *** impacts of climatic change are probable,despite some uncertainties within the GCMs(i.e.,2.1%,5.0%and 8.0%)and CMs(i.e.,2.2%,6.0%and 9.2%).Changing the planting date with a scenario of plus or minus 5 or 10 days from the common practice was assessed as a potentially effective adaptation option,which may partially offset the negative impacts of climate *** the sowing date by 10 days(from 20 November to 30 November)proved the optimum scenario and decreased further reduction in wheat yields resulting from climate change to 5.2%,6.8%and 8.5%in the 2030s,2050s and 2080s,respectively,compared with the 20 November *** planting 5-days earlier scenario showed a decreased impact on climate change ***,the 10-days early planting scenario increased yield reduction under projected climate *** cultivar Misr1 was more resistant to rising temperature than *** the negative impacts of projected climate change on wheat production,water use efficiency would slightly *** ensemble of multi-model estimated impacts and adaptation uncertainties of climate change can assist decision-makers in planning clima

Assessment of clay stiffness and strength parameters using index properties

A new approach is developed to determine the shear wave velocity in saturated soft to firm clays using measurements of the liquid limit, plastic limit, and natural water content with depth. The shear wave velocity is assessed using the site-specific variation of the natural water content with the effective mean stress. Subsequently, an iterative process is envisaged to obtain the clay stiffness and strength *** at-rest earth pressure coefficient, as well as bearing capacity factor and rigidity index related to the cone penetration test, is also acquired from the analyses. Comparisons are presented between the measured clay parameters and the results of corresponding analyses in five different case studies. It is demonstrated that the presented approach can provide acceptable estimates of saturated clay stiffness and strength parameters. One of the main privileges of the presented methodology is the site-specific procedure developed based on the relationships between clay strength and stiffness parameters, rather than adopting direct correlations. Despite of the utilized iterative processes, the presented approach can be easily implemented using a simple spreadsheet, benefiting both geotechnical researchers and practitioners.
