Depression, Anxiety, stress and Their Association with the Use of Electronic Devices among Adolescents during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Background:Adolescence is a critical,multifactorial developmental *** the current pandemic of COVID-19,excessive using of electronic devices is a public health *** aim of this study is to investigate the relation-ship between depression and the use of electronic devices among secondary school children in Jazan,saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 *** and Methods:The study is an observational,cross-sectional *** was collected using an anonymous online survey *** the Depression Anxiety stress ***:A total of 427 participants were included in the *** prevalence of depression,anxiety,and stress in our study was 14.55%,12.01%,and 15.55%,*** the hours spent on electronic devices,13.6%of participants spent 1–4 h,43.6%spent 5–9 h,and 42.9%spent 10 h or more.86.7%reported an increase in their use of electronic devices during *** regression analysis revealed that the increase of Videogame Addiction scale for Chil-dren is signiﬁcantly associated with an increase in Depression,Anxiety,and stress scores(p-valuesion:Electronic device use is a challenging issue among saudi adolescents,and it has been associated with a negative impact on participants’mental *** study found a positive correlation between electronic device use and increased prevalence of mental health *** also found signiﬁcantly increased use of electronic device during the COVID-19 lockdown;hence,more mental issues were *** is obvious that electronic device use needs to be more controlled among *** can be achieved by involving those who are in this age group in other activities,like sports,which can reduce the time they spend on electronic device.

The impact of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), child-turcotte-pugh (CTP) score and disease staging on the survival of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients: a retrospective cohort from single oncology center

Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common cause of cancer-related death in saudi Arabia. Our study aimed to investigate the patterns of HCC and the effect of TNM staging, Alfa-fetoprotein (AFP), and Child-Turcotte Pugh (CTP) on patients' overall survival (Os).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 HCC patients at a single oncology center in saudi Arabia from 2015 to 2020. All patients had to fulfill one of the following criteria: (a) a liver lesion reported as definitive HCC on dynamic imaging and/or (b) a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis.Results:The mean patient age of all HCC cases was 66.8 with a male-to-female ratio of 3.3:1. All patients were stratified into two groups: viral HCC (n = 22, 51%) and non-viral HCC (n = 21, 49%). Among viral-HCC patients, 55% were due to HBV and 45% due to HCV. Cirrhosis was diagnosed in 79% of cases. Age and sex did not significantly statistically differ in Os among viral and non-viral HCC patients (-value > 0.05). About 65% of patients had tumor size >5 cm during the diagnosis, with a significant statistical difference in Os (-value = 0.027). AFP was >400 ng/ml in 45% of the patients. There was a statistically significant difference in the Os in terms of AFP levels (-value = 0.021). A statistically significant difference was also observed between the CTP score and Os (-value = 0.02). CTP class B had the longest survival. BsC was the most common treatment provided to HCC patients followed by sorafenib therapy. There was a significant statistical difference in Os among viral and non-viral HCC patients (-value = 0.008).Conclusions:The most common predictors for Os were the underlying cause of HCC, AFP, and tumor size. Being having non-viral etiology, a tumor size >5 cm, an AFP > 400 ng/mL, and a CTP score class C were all negatively associated with Os.

AVLINK： Robust Clustering Algorithm based on Average Link Applied to Protein sequence Analysis

Robust Clustering methods are aimed at avoiding unsatisfactory results resulting from the presence of certain amount of outlying observations in the input data of many practical applications such as biological sequences analysis or gene expressions analysis. This paper presents a fuzzy clustering algorithm based on average link and possibilistic clustering paradigm termed as AVLINK. It minimizes the average dissimilarity between pairs of patterns within the same cluster and at the same time the size of a cluster is maximized by computing the zeros of the derivative of proposed objective function. AVLINK along with the proposed initialization procedure show a high outliers rejection capability as it makes their membership very low furthermore it does not requires the number of clusters to be known in advance and it can discover clusters of non convex shape. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithms have been demonstrated on different types of protein data sets.

Harmful effects of pyrethroid ester insecticide on the male reproductive system mainly through affecting testicular function and inflammatory markers

Pyrethroid esters are widely used as insecticides worldwide. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the harmful effect of deltamethrin on the male reproductive system through the assessment of reproductive hormones, inflammatorymarkers, and testicular function. To achieve our aim, eighty male 7-9-week-old, Wistar rats were taken, weighed, and divided into four experimental groups. The first group was kept as a control group, and the other three groups were given deltamethrin orally at different concentrations (0.87, 8.7, and 17.4 mg/kg body weight) for nine weeks. The resultsindicated that deltamethrin administration associated with a significant decrease in reproductive hormones, especially FsH, LH, and significant elevation in the interleukin 2 (IL2), interleukin 6 (IL6), histamine, and cortisol levels. Also, thesignificance of inhibition of sperm motility and viability, decreased testis weights, sperm count, and fructose in semen were noted. These findings clarify the harmful effect of deltamethrin on the male reproductive system by producing a significant alteration in reproductive hormones, inflammatory markers as well as testicular function.

series solution of a natural convection flow for a Carreau fluid in a vertical channel with peristalsis

An analysis has been achieved to study the natural convection of a non-Newtonian fluid （namely a Carreau fluid） in a vertical channel with rhythmically contracting walls. The Navier-stokes and the energy equations are reduced to a system of non- linear PDE by using the long wavelength approximation. The optimal homotopy analysis method （OHAM） is introduced to obtain the exact solutions for velocity and temperature fields. The convergence of the obtained OHAM solution is discussed explicitly. Numerical calculations are carried out for the pressure rise and the features of the flow and temperature characteristics are analyzed by plotting graphs and discussed in detail.

Advanced algorithms for retrieving pileup peaks of digital alpha spectroscopy using antlions and particle swarm optimizations

Paraconductivity study in ErBa_2Cu_(3-x)M_xO_(7-δ)(M=Zn, Fe) superconductors

We report here the paraconductivity of ErBa2Cu3-xMxO7-δ （M = Zn and Fe） superconductors. The logarithmic plots of excess conductivity Δσ and reduced temperature C reveal two different exponents corresponding to crossover temperature as a result of shifting the order parameter from 2 to 3. The first exponent in the normal field region is close to 1, in which the order parameter dimensionality （OPD） is 2. The second exponent in the critical field region is close to 0.5, in which the OPD is 3. The coherence length, interlayer coupling, interlayer separation and carrier concentration decrease with increasing doping content, and their values for Fe samples are different from those of Zn samples. While anisotropy is increased with increasing doping content, it is generally higher for a Zn sample than that for an Fe sample. We also estimate several physical parameters such as upper critical magnetic fields in the a–b plane and along the c axis （Bab and Bc）, and critical current density J at 0 K. Although Bab and Bc are generally increased with doping content increasing, the value of Bab is found to be twice more than that of Bc. A similar behavior is obtained for J （0 K） and its value is higher in the Fe sample than that in the Zn sample. These results are discussed in terms of oxygen deficiency, localization of carriers, and flux pinning, which are produced by doping.
