N-Butylpyridoquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide (NBPQD) as a new potent for tumor imaging and therapy

The development of new and effective antitumor agents is one of the main goals of medicinal and biochemical research at present. The present study is concerned with the evaluation of the previously synthesized N-Butylpyridoquinoxaline 1,4-dioxide (NBPQD) as an antitumor agent against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC). The first part of the study (tumor imaging) was to investigate the biodistribution of NBPQD in the organs of EAC-bearing mice using iodine-125 isotope stressing on its distribution in the main organs (stomach, liver, spleen, kidney) in addition to blood and ascetic fluid. The second part was the assessment of the antitumor activity of NBPQD by estimating the tumor volume and the contents of total protein, total lipid, DNA and RNA in liver tissues. In addition, liver function tests and the redox status were assessed. Tumor volume and DNA, RNA, urea and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and the liver enzymes activity were highly significantly increased (P ell as activities of glutathione reductase (GSH-R) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) all were highly significantly decreased in untreated EAC-bearing mice compared to controls. All these decreased parameters were highly significantly restored to their normal levels in NBPQD treated mice compared to the untreated EAC-bearing mice. The survival time of the NBPQD treated mice was longer than that of the untreated ones. It is thus, evident that NBPQD had a remarkable antitumor activity against EAC in Swiss albino mice.

Objective: The great saphenous vein (GSV) is commonly used as a conduit for grafting during CABG surgery, and open GSV harvesting (OVH), commonly used with long incision to expose the vein. However, endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) is an alternative approach, utilizing specialized instruments and small incisions to harvest the vein. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of patients who underwent Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) requiring great saphenous vein (GSV) harvesting which was done by EVH or OVH procedures. Demographic variables, including age and gender, were assessed for both groups. Intraoperative variables such as the number of grafts, cardiopulmonary bypass time, X clamp time, and type of procedure were analyzed. Postoperative variables, including infection and bleeding rates, were also evaluated. Results: The study included 30 patients each undergoing Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) with need of great saphenous vein harvesting which was done by EVH and OVH. Demographic variables were well-matched between the two groups in terms of age, while a significant difference in gender distribution was observed. Obesity and smoking were more prevalent in the OVH group, and EVH was associated with a higher mean number of grafts compared to OVH. Conversion to an open technique occurred in a portion of the EVH cases, and infection rates did not significantly differ between the EVH and OVH groups. However, the incidence of postoperative bleeding was significantly higher in the EVH group. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the demographic, intraoperative, and postoperative variables associated with EVH and OVH techniques. EVH demonstrated advantages in terms of reduced infection rates compared to OVH. However, the higher incidence of postoperative bleeding associated with EVH raises concerns about potential risks.

(1) To determine the serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and insulin- like growth factor- 1 (IGF1) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). (2) To study Doppler blood flow changes within the ovarian stroma of women with PCOS. (3) To evaluate the relationship between VEGF and IGF- 1 and Doppler indices as well as hormonal profile. Fifty infertile women with PCOS diagnosed by ultrasound examination and a history of oligomenorrhea, hirsutism and obesity were studied. Serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), insulin- like growth factor- 1 (IGF- 1) and hormonal profile were measured. Doppler blood flow velocity waveforms analysis in both right and left intraovarian arteries was done. Twenty healthy and fertile women with regular menstrual cycles served as a comparison group were similarly studied at the third day of the cycle. The serum levels of VEGF,IGF- 1 (4.79 ± 0.91, 253.15 ± 70.07 versus 2.39 ± 0.42, 186.65 ± 42.7) were significantly elevated (P ely) in women with PCOS compared with control. Doppler indices, PI (2.01 ± 0.77, 2.66 ± 1.00 versus 2.98 ± 0.77, 3.75 ± 0.98) and RI (0.77 ± 0.12, 0.82 ± 0.09 versus 0.87 ± 0.09, 0.89 ± 0.09) in both right and left intraovarian vessels were significantly lower in the patients than controls. The VEGF and IGF- 1 levels were negatively correlated with RI and PI in the uterine and intraovarian arteries. VEGF level was positively correlated with IGF- 1 (r = 0.41, P els of VEGF and IGF- 1 in PCOS women may be related to the increased vascularity that underlies the increased blood flow demonstrated by Doppler blood flow measurements in these women.

Background: Complications linked to postpartum & pregnancy are one of the major causes of female death. In order to understand the causes of complications and encourage women to take sufficient action in order to receive emergency treatment, a critical step should therefore be taken to minimize complications related to pregnancy, in order to ensure the safety of both women and newborns. Aim of the work: Evaluate the effectiveness of the education programs for pregnant women on obstetric danger signs in rural areas and help minimize the incidence of pregnancy loss and comorbidities.
